Did it refuse to install, or refuse to boot? I've seen Linux distros that couldn't boot (from CD), but it worked after disabling certain hardware detection in the boot options.
Starts to boot from USB drive, and than just halts and does nothing, just showing blank screen. I know how to handle bios and boot options, but this was not the case here and usb was detected. Weird, never had that so far. Didn't it tell you what the issue is? Like is usually the case with verbose Linux OS.. Default is Btrfs, but it asks you during installation what you want to use.
Something similar happened once with debian os, but there was a clear message for unsupported hardware, so I just used nonfree version and it worked like a charm. So you are using Btrfs or Ext4... and did you notice any difference, especially running Bitcoin node?

It's worth noting this Trezor model is one of the few wallets which has no dedicated secure element.
Yeah, this is the last days of hardware wallets without secure elements, or maybe not. It's possible to use something that Seedsigner or Krux DIY with non-persistent storage that would delete everything after you shut down power from wallet. Until I see first opensource secure element, I will not trust any other secure elements and signed NDA's. Bonus task, try to find Kingin in this image (click to enlarge) ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ibb.co%2FQnMZmBF%2Fpic32.jpg&t=663&c=7yc5_S0Z9KbpaQ) I wonder if he get bounty bug reward from trezor considering this is a great find. I see their bounty bug page [1] but seems still outdated https://trezor.io/security/He was certainly paid by the guy who hired him for this job, and it's possible that Trezor compensated him related with this flaw. All this happened several months ago and Trezor was well aware of this problem and fixed it right away. I think that Saleem Rashid fixed this issue and he is on top of the bounty list on ledger website with 60.000 points. It appears that in addition to the pin, he hacked the seed phrases as well [blurred part]. I guess once you have the PIN, you will have the full access to everything including seed words, but this was the case before fix was applied in firmware. It turned out good for owner of that specific Trezor and I am hearing that many people are now contacting Kingpin with same issues of lost PIN.

This Quantum topic cracking Bitcoin is showing up from time to time, and one student Mark Webber from Ion Quantum Technology Group at the University of Sussex is nowclaiming that we are decades away from something like this happening. There is just one catch... quantum computers need to be a million times larger than they currently are before cracking Bitcoin SHA-256 algorithm ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) And even if this happens sometime in future, everything will be affected by this because SHA-256 is used all over the world. https://www.newscientist.com/article/2305646-quantum-computers-are-a-million-times-too-small-to-hack-bitcoin/

From my experience so far, I believe a standard, robust, but lean enterprise-grade Linux distro (like openSUSE non-rolling release) is the best, and then you install just what you need. Most stuff in these 'Bitcoin distros' you don't actually need for running Core.
I tried testing and installing OpenSUSE in one of my computers but for some reason it refused to install, probably because of some unsupported hardware issue. Similar thing can happen with Debian based linux, but you can always download unofficial ISO nonfree version, or some with extended hardware support. One more good thing about debian with bitcoin node is that you will get support from community very quickly, if run into some problems along the way. btw is OpenSUSE linux using ext4 file system by default or Btrfs?

I setup 2 accounts, one for LastPass and one for 1password. Inside each of them, I stored the backup phrase for 2 wallets. The 1password one is bitcoin, and the LastPass one is Ethereum.
This is not a bad idea, but it would be much better if you offered bigger Bitcoin rewards, that way you would attract more attention and give more incentive and motivation to hackers. The question remains just how long will it take for someone to find out the keys
It will take less time, more money you offer on this addresses. Maybe you can send more coins each month to keep interest alive. I recently saw interview and video by Joe Grand aka Kingpin who hacked Trezor wallet, so maybe you should contact him and heard his opinion about this. I would not suggest using any of this for keeping your password, even if they can work fine for most people. both LastPass and 1password have their own flaws. Best thing you can use today for your passwords is probably open source software KeePass.

In your opinion, why do these popular platforms act like this and completely ignore bitcoin? And why doesn't a platform of the same kind, but using bitcoin, is able to develop itself to compete against the big ones?
Biggest problems are with regulations in many countries and you can't have one rule for all in this case. Second thing that is preventing more business to accept Bitcoin payments directly could be transaction fees that can sometimes be higher, and inability to revert transactions. Easy solution for them would be using something like BTCPayServer and accepting LN payments, but I don't most of them will lever use this for selfish reasons. If big tech ever accepts some method of crypto payments in global scales it will be one they create themselves, so they can control supply and turn accounts on/off.

Coming up with questions that are simple yet captivating is not an easy task, so to make the quiz more interesting, we resorted to the help of Halab and Xtraelv's thread. But it's even more difficult to choose only 22 questions from hundreds. This quiz will run until the end of Feb, after which we will update the questions.
I passed the quiz and I have to admit that I did have some mistakes, but some questions are a bit bias, like for examples about sexiest forum gang? I know it's all chicks and girls in this club, but I beg to differ there are other sexier gangs in forum, and I won't name them here ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Verge article released interesting article about one electrical engineer and hacker who hacked and broke Trezor hardware wallet PIN code with wallet worth around $2 million! This was all done by Joe Grand and Trezor device was owned by Dan Reich who purchased some coins for $50k back in 2018, and then he withdraw them from exchange to Trezor wallet. Price of the coins crash (some of us remember that time) and Dan forgot all about PIN code he used on his Trezor, and his friend lost the paper backup with this information. Joe Grand, better known by his old hacker handle “Kingpin” was a part of L0pht hacker collective that testified to the US Senate back in 1998. He already helped Mark Frauenfelder recover his coins from Trezor after he forgot his PIN in 2017, so Dan Reich contacted him and asked him for help. Trezor did some changes and improvements after this, but this was not enough as Grand managed to do it again, and you can watch the procedure below in his youtube channel. Problem is not only for Trezor but for most hardware wallets and devices that use STM32 microcontrollers and most wallets are using them. They are used in billions of devices around the world, not only in hardware wallets and it's scary when you think about it, even without flaws some agencies could add backdoor for spying inside this chips. Trezor already fixed the issue in latest firmware versions and wallets no longer copy or move the key and PIN into RAM but in protected part of flash that is not affected by firmware upgrades. Make sure to watch the video below, it does look a bit scripted but it is interesting to watch and fun time to spend 30 minutes. Conclusion:- Always make multiple backups for your wallet - Use Trezor ONLY with passphrase, but back that up also. Joe Grand video: How I hacked a hardware crypto wallet and recovered $2 million https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dT9y-KQbqi4![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FPByXOQF.jpg&t=663&c=_eNz30dH9G5eJQ) Full Article: https://www.theverge.com/2022/1/24/22898712/crypto-hardware-wallet-hacking-lost-bitcoin-ethereum-nftHi, we just want to add that the vulnerability was already fixed, and all new devices are shipped with a fixed bootloader. Thanks to @saleemrash1d for his security audit. What for though?
What for are people buying all those worthless jpg NFT images? Bitcointalk passport could be cool collectible and proof that I was a member of this forum, without directly exposing my identity to forum, so I can show off my passport to grandkids one day... both physical or digital. Maybe it can even serve as some kind of paper wallet.

Great discussion, guys! I learned a lot, and also I am very disappointed in Coldcard. It seems to me that Coldcard devices are becoming more and more unsuitable for securing large amounts of money. Closed-source secure elements, non-reproducibility of builds, adding more layers of trust, decreasing the air-gapness of devices and increasing the attack surface due to implementing questionable features, and also controversial marketing are the reasons I wouldn't switch from my Trezor to a Coldcard device. They are now more oriented towards people who wish to make everyday small transactions with their mobile phones rather than those who care about the security of their holdings. That is not to say that there is something wrong with using mobile wallets in combination with hardware wallets, but if I were to choose, I would consider fully open-source and more cheap devices. I think that Coldcard created some weird eco chamber and they started with all this crazy decision making, but some people may like this idk, but they are looking more and more like ledger every day. Thing is that more I learn about hardware wallets in general, less I have trust in them, and I more thinking of going back using air-gapped laptop. There is still place for using hardware wallets but you really need to think good about security, and look inside all of this devices... I mean they all use same microchips and ''secure'' elements. Sadly I think the $5 zero is not coming back soon. I see the W and the 2W at a lot of places but no longer the original zero. Could just be that a lot of retailers are looking at the small amount they can make on it and just not ordering.
That is probably true, and if it is than I would like to have Raspberry Pi Zeor 2 without wi-fi connection, I see some people are removing in manually on hardware level. Not sure where you got the $80 price
I did simple math, all those prices you wrote are just in theory, in real life Pi zero was recently around $20 and I can find it now locally for more than $30 ![Shocked](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/shocked.gif) , same as Rpi 2 W (that is also out of stock in many places). Some dedicated stores stocked up and they are selling all parts for around $80, and they can even send you pre-assembled version: - https://www.gobrrr.me/produkt-kategorie/kits/- https://btc-hardware-solutions.square.site/product/orange_pill_kit/6?cs=true&cst=custom- https://diynodes.com/product/preassembled-seedsigner-in-open-pill-case/And yes I know that case be printed locally with .STL files Interestingly, official Raspberry seller says it's discontinued That is only for version with pre soldered header, and official Rasberry website didn't say anything about this. Like I said, I canstill find them in local shops with 6 or 7 times higher price.

Trezor and Keystone use SLIP-39. The disadvantage of this scheme is that it is not compatible with BIP-39, so it is not possible to have a "single mnemonic representation" of a SLIP-39 secret. Our shamir shares are compatible with BIP-39, so it is possible to have both a single mnemonic and shamir shares. In the near future we are planning to use the SSKR standard, which is inspired by SLIP-39, but adds BIP-39 compatibiltiy: https://github.com/BlockchainCommons/Research/blob/master/papers/bcr-2020-011-sskr.mdI understand that both Trezor and Keystone are using Shamir scheme that is connected with SLIP-39, but I could always recover this if I lose one of the wallets, or one of them stop productions and shuts down servers. What happens if Airgap wensite or app is down and servers gone? I think that compatibility with other wallets is extremely important for something like this. Unfortunately, we only support android v5 and above.
This means that in future even Android version 5 won't be supported with new updates, so I would have to use some new phone device, and I don't like this. I do understand there are some limitations with writing code for older versions, but newer phones have their own disadvantages.

Pretty easy for me to not use any Google product to be honest. Well, except for YouTube lol. I can use Tutanota and ProtonMail instead of Gmail, DuckDuckGo and StartPage instead of Google Search, etc. but YouTube really doesn't have a decent alternative.
You can kind a use different frontends for youtube like invidious for example, and have all your subscriptions with notification there. Advantage is that you will see no ads and your behavior will not be tracked by bog brother, but sometimes you will have to switch instances. I think that youtube is getting worse every year, they have stupid censorship and they (or their stupid algo) often ban good crypto related content, like wie saw recently with Bitcoin Magazine channel.

Seeing the list of hacked YouTube accounts, it seems kinda sus. Even IvanOnTech and Andreas Antonopoulos were hacked; whereas both are pretty technical people inside and outside of cryptocurrencies. I'm betting that this is a YouTube problem.
You can bet your ass it's youtube and google problem, and even Coin Bureau said that he is using strong passwords and google security keys. Only people who can own security keys are Coin Bureau and google, so it must be some inside job and if you read comments you will see hacker is aparently using Binance exchange account. Conclusion: Don't trust google and don't use their services PS I know it's not easy to give up addiction for some people ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)
