5701  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why is there such an insurgence of flat-earthers in 2015? on: July 25, 2015, 11:24:21 AM
I think some people have way to much spare time on their hands for their own good.

Its funny, when you think how deluded these people are.

So how does the internet work, huh? Since the Earth is flat, the satellite network cannot exist, there is no signal broadcast and no internet!

The internet is carried over fiber optic cables not bounced off the ionosphere with microwaves (satellite).

Where does internet in your mobile phone fit in? Or navigation in your automobile?

Internet data on mobile phones is relayed via cellular transceivers on towers all over the place.

The "GPS" used in automobile navigation is relayed via microwaves bounced off the ionosphere.

Denying Earths roundness isnt just sign of "creative thinking" but virtual denial of everything we have learned on the field of physics in the past two centuries, putting you on the same footing as those Saudi immams, who said on record, that ovulation is responsible for earthquakes or that (flat?) Earth is being orbited by (round) Sun.

It's the globe Earth theory that's the result of "creative thinking" in the biggest mass mind-control conspiracy of all time. The creative thinkers who concocted this knew the Earth was flat when they dreamt it up 500 years ago.

While I've provided the average weight of a person in grams and requested the answer in grams the SI unit for mass is the kilogram.

Also keep in mind the fact that mass is not the same as weight.
5704  Other / Off-topic / Re: Skill Testing Math Question -- 0.01 BTC Reward on: July 24, 2015, 08:14:41 PM
So what are you looking for ?
The mass shift or looking for the exact mass ?

"...the weight..."

How about

0.8^2 / 464^2 * 84,000 = 0.2497026 gram

You're short a few kg.

                      Centripetal_force 1      =  centripetal_force 2
84,000 g * (464 m/2)^2 / 6,371,000 m = mass * (463.2 m/s)^2 / 6,371,000 m

mass = 84,290.4 g

So you're saying that the force on an average person from being whipped around at 464 meters per second is 290.4 grams?  Cheesy There's a ride at PlayLand called the Gravitron, you should ride it sometime!

Also, the only velocities that should be used here are 464 m/s and 0.8 m/s. Where on Earth did you get 463.2 m/s from?

... snip ...

Thank you for that video, i ll I'll watch it later.

To the others that think im I'm some kind of troll or anti-bitcoin anti-Bitcoin:, you are so wrong.

I have bitcoins actually I actually have Bitcoins actually and i I love bitcoin Bitcoin .. But but, i m I'm still learning about it. And to To learn, i I love to play the devil's Devil's advocate, asking questions, solving problems and confronting bitcoin Bitcoin with fiat-c.

To For bitcoin Bitcoin to become a huge success (i I hope) it has to convince the population in general,. bitcoin Bitcoin must be as good as fiat-c in every way and better in some ways.

I want to learn every single possibility around it (future user friendly apps, loans, transactions, mortagages mortgages, salaries, companies dealing with bitcoin Bitcoin, etc), to analyse analyze it and trying try to see if it will be capable of completely substitute substituting fiat-c in the ordinary/general requirements that our society is long-time has long adapted to.

If i dont I don't play devil's Devil's advocate here, it is very hard to hear answers and opinions to some questions i I (and many other people) have.

Actually, everytime every time i I have someone proving myself wrong, i I love it and i devil's buy a little bit more bitcoins Bitcoin.

SO, PLEASE, only keep proving that i I am wrong and we will all be happy.

I Hope hope you understood understand me.

Thanks for your input, comments and opinions form new users are always great to read.

What are you going to do with your Bitcoin wealth once your coins hit upwards of $10,000 a pop?

That depends how much bitcoins I will have. If I will have the amount I have actually (very few) I will change them all because of the fear that the price will go down again and then will send the money at the bank to save for other purposes in the future (like to pay the fee's for the college of my daughters).

Using the information you've provided I've formatted your response to make it readable...

Quote from: JLynn171
0.8^2 = 0.64
0.64 / 6371000 = 4077440
4077440 * 84000 = 342504960000
342504960000 / 101.971621 = 3358826275.7929483145119366102849 grams

(velocity^2 / radius) * mass = 342,504,960,000 grams
342,504,960,000 / 101.971621 = 3,358,826,275.7929483145119366102849 newtons

So based on your response your answer is about 3,358,826,276 newtons or 342,504,960 kg, is that correct?

We're getting close but I don't think we've arrived at a BTC reward yet...

Problems I can see:

a) your giving results from your force formula in grams not newtons.
b) your mass is still incorporating a velocity of 464 m/s to get 84 kg.
c) many other issues.

Tip: the SI unit for force (in this case centripetal force) is the Newton. 1 newton = 101.971621 grams.

Let me try

( 464-0.8 )^2 / 464^2 * 84,000 = 83,710.5945303210463 gram

If my answer satisfy you  Grin

The centripetal force that counters the gravitational force has been reduced to a fraction of what it normally is. How can they (the average person) possibly weigh 0.3 kg less?

0.64/ 6,371,000 =4077440
4077440x84,000= 342504960000gs?

You got a nice big number so you're going in the right direction but, where did you get '0.64' from?
5715  Other / Off-topic / Re: Skill Testing Math Question -- 0.01 BTC Reward on: July 23, 2015, 03:16:48 PM
I've added a 0.01 BTC reward for the first correct answer.
5716  Other / Off-topic / Re: Skill Testing Math Question on: July 23, 2015, 08:20:26 AM
How about a 0.1 BTC reward, would that be enough to get a serious attempt at answering this question? That's almost $28 USD.
5717  Other / Off-topic / Re: Skill Testing Math Question on: July 23, 2015, 08:10:47 AM
Please provide the answer in grams and show your work!

144.82758612 gms

.8/464 = 0.00172413793

0.00172413793 X 84,000 = 144.82758612

The merry-go-round is slowed to a fraction of its regular speed, the centripetal force countering gravity is also reduced and the average person weighs less according to your answer?

I'm sorry but the average person is going to weigh more not less as the centripetal force is reduced.

Consider two magnets stuck together with one of them tied to a string. If you twirl the magnets fast enough the one held on will fly off once the centripetal force exceeds the magnetic force holding them together.

I do however appreciate your attempt at answering the question all-be-it a less than serious attempt.

I'm considering adding a reward, is 0.01 BTC enough?
5719  Other / Off-topic / [SOLVED] Skill Testing Math Question -- 0.08 BTC Reward on: July 22, 2015, 04:23:47 PM
Based on following what would be the weight of an average person at the equator if the equatorial velocity was slowed to 0.8 m/s?

Earth's radius at the equator: 6,371,000 m
Earth's velocity at the equator: 464 m/s
Average weight of a person: 84,000 g
formula: centripetal_force = mass * velocity^2 / radius

Please provide the answer in grams and show your work!
