5701  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The fate of privacy cryptocurrencies on: January 10, 2021, 10:50:38 PM
Recently the anonymous coins skyrocketed way high, I checked monero price and it has increase up. I was able to check Dash price, it has also increased, in few days ago when these anonymou cryptocurrencies were facing delisting issues, the price of bitcoin and altcoins like ether and litecoin increased significantly but these anonymous coins decreased just slightly little though. But is surprised me to see the Dash I saw at $89 in few days ago at $134 now, the price has significantly increased.
5702  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcointalk ranking difficulty on: January 10, 2021, 10:33:17 PM
According to some researches, I noticed bitcointalk has been a forum without merit system before, before merit system evolved which was in 2018, people only rank up only with activities but as time goes the forum deployed more ways to have more quality posts. Before merit system was created there were good posters but they are few if compared to now, which makes the merit system a very good part of bitcointalk by increasing users that have more quality posts. As at then when merit system has not been created, to rank up is not had but simple.

After the merit system was created in 2018, many members were not able to rank up again, the merit system was toug but not like of these days, the reason is because many members were automatically given smerits which they still use in inappropriate manners. Later some of these members were unable to continue the use of the smerit inappropriately later relented and later found not to have any merit again in the last 120 days and beyond and the merit system become more difficult as posts are becoming more quality.

People that are just joining bitcointalk have to work harder and have posts full of quality contents before they can rank up, making this forum not friendly to newbies because newbies are the ones that mostly plagiarize, spam, copy/paste and full of shitposting habits. This makes this forum to be harder than the era before merit system was implemented and the time when merit system just started.

The posting quality of even the ranked members have increased, while new members with good quality posts also are the one receiving merits. But many newbies think this forum ranked members are selfish and of which not, they are not selfish. But only the time they leave that thinking behind, read about bitcoin and crypto and make further researches and able to post about these in a quality way will they be merited and rank up.

Newbies should be hard working, patient and believe, these are the three keys to how they can rank up. The ranking difficulty has increased but there are still newbies that rank up while their merit is now enough to achieve more ranks.
5703  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Advice for beginner HODLers on: January 10, 2021, 10:06:31 PM
For tracking price, coinmarketcap is also good. For hardware wallet, ledger nano, cold card and Keepkey are not also bad. Online wallets are not safe like hardware wallets but there should be care to be taken to avoid scammers generally, phishing attacks must be avoided, malacious file downloads must be avoided too because it can have effect on your hardware wallet if performing transactions. Though the wallet will be cold one and will be for holding but holders should still know all these. Your post is useful for people that want to hold bitcoin.
5704  Other / Meta / Re: How many times can I change my account password? on: January 10, 2021, 02:13:54 PM
You can change your bitcointalk account password anytime you want, I remember when I changed from one device to another, I also change my password because I do make use of long password with characters than can not be known off hand which is the type of password that supposed to be used for accounts that are very important. Anytime I want to move from one device to another and if the backup is not with me as it has happened to me before because it is offline on paper, I make use of change password when it is offline back is beyond my reach at that particular time. If changed it will work which indicate you can change password of your bitcointalk at anytime you want.

What would have caused the user to be changing his password can be as a result of not doing backup his password and if he wants to change from one device to another, he will have to make use of change password if the username or the email used is remembered. This is not a good idea because it is better to make use of password backup but it can actaully work and complete your mission of getting access to your device when password is not known, far away or not forgotten but it is not advisable at all to be changing password all the time, doing recoverable backup will be better in a way no one will be suspecting the account.
5705  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The fate of privacy cryptocurrencies on: January 10, 2021, 08:42:01 AM
I hardly use private cryptocurrencies and the fact that they are removed from large exchanges does not upset me very much since if i want to use them i still have a lot of tools to do it.
Not that anonymous cryptocurrencies like monero, dash and zcash were delisted from big exchanges, only United States exchanges. These cryptocurrencies will be still listed on all other big exchanges that are not from United States. Also I am not sure if it is all exchanges in United States that will delist the coins. But I just wrote the topic because it will be difficult more if exchanges from all countries joined in delisting these anonymous coins, but let us wish it will not happen.
5706  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paper money vs Digital currency on: January 09, 2021, 10:35:00 PM
Paper money is one of the old fashion which is still though part of our system, but with time the paper money will be the things of the old. Governments are trying their best to create CBDC while decentralized cryptocurrencies like bitcoin are on their way to go mainstream. But what is on ground now is still the digital fiat, fiat are fitting into the new era world also, it was paper money before but now becoming digital money too which can be kept and use electronically. What I just see about the new world is that all these money will fit into it to make the world a better place but those who invest in decentralized currencies will be the ones to still benefit in deflationary currencies like investing in bitcoin.
5707  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The market is not your friend: Don't trade selfishly on: January 09, 2021, 12:06:56 PM
Well you can't possibly know the possible closing price, you should increase your margin and don't do high leverage that have close liquidation call. This is highly risky since bitcoin moves very volatile at 1000 range. Dont sleep on your set if it still have an unsure set up of SL. But that's how risk works. Maybe that is only unfortunate event.
The example I used was a future trading though which makes your comment to be correct but there are some times I used stop loss for spot trading too which requires no margin at all, but only knowing the market price of the coin I trade decreased and the stop loss price initiated but upon waking up the next day or after a long day the market price has risen. The stop loss can be helpful though, especially during abrupt price drop like when bitcoin recently drop from $34,000 to $28000 before the bull trend continues.
5708  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The market is not your friend: Don't trade selfishly on: January 09, 2021, 10:23:40 AM
Well! This few information can help newbies, trading can look simple to new traders until they are losing a lot of money, trading should be taking easy and patiently with no greed. Trading should be done in a way the liquidity will not be too high, this is the point of failure for many traders but mostly new traders. But to be sincere I do not make use of stop lose, I like to be on the screen when I am trading, and anytime I want to do something, I will make sure I close the trade especially if I want to sleep but on some occasion if I see the market will be bullish overnight, I may leave the trade open. There are many times I do use stop lose that will be against me. Even recently, bitcoin was at $38600, I set stop loss at $38300, the market decreased below $38300 to $38230 but before I woke up, bitcoin was already at $38800 and rallied up to over $40000. Stop lose has its own disadvantages too.
5709  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: I Got scammed on: January 07, 2021, 08:11:48 AM
Some companies contacted me. They claim they Can track Bitcoin movement and trace scammers to claim money back. They want to be paid in advance. Is it possible?
Bitcoin transaction can be tracked but can not be reversed, which means your money is completely gone, you need to forget about it and move on. There are many people that recovery services have scammed, recovery services are scammers too.

Please refer to this topic https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5264627.0
In summary, he was scammed twice. First was when he sent bitcoins to a ponzi scheme and second was when he paid a bitcoin recovery scam service in an attempt to get back his bitcoins from the ponzi.

The story may sound ridiculous but it happens to many beginners. Some newbies still fall for different types of scams like fake giveaways and bitcoin doublers. Another example is the recent hack on twitter, the scammers used the accounts of famous people to fool followers. If not for Coinbase, 1,000 more users would have fallen victim. They stopped the $280,000 worth of btc transactions from being deposited into the scammer's account.

Quote
Coinbase says it prevented just over 1,000 customers from sending around $280,000 worth of bitcoin during last Wednesday’s attack. Roughly 14 Coinbase users sent around $3,000 worth of bitcoin to the scam’s bitcoin address before the company moved to blacklist it, the company said.

If you or someone else you know fell victim to these scams, please be informed that the btc sent to scammers are most likely unrecoverable. If you ever encounter a site that says they'll get it back for you at a fee, do not fall for it because they are also scams. Bitcoin transactions cannot be reversed and the only possible way I know to recover the funds is if the scammer themselves are careless in sending btc to centralized exchanges or services without obfuscating the transaction.
5710  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin a deep pullback @40K? on: January 07, 2021, 08:00:26 AM
Something we should all keep in mind is that, at some point; the market will have some corrections. There are people in so much profit for buying/longing - we should think about what's going to happen when the decide to take profits.
Just like when bitcoin price first got to $34000, there was a correction and decrease to $30000 or a price that is slightly it, but after a day or two, the bullrun continues. At this present price of $35000, nobody can truly yet predict what could happen after bitcoin will get to $40000, but mostly like the bullrun will continue after correction (short time and mild bull back).
5711  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The best way to by ledger wallet on: January 06, 2021, 11:49:17 AM
It was quite a logical course of action if you wanted to buy a hardware wallet, until this happened with Ledger and showed us all that no one should be trusted with your personal information. Therefore, if you cannot make a purchase directly from the manufacturer without compromising your personal information, the best and safest option is to buy such a device directly in a physical store with cash.

I had this option for both (Ledger&Trezor), but I believed more in buying directly from the manufacturer which turned out to be completely wrong. The lesson has been learned, unfortunately in a difficult way - but it is a warning to anyone who is just planning to buy such devices, do everything you can to protect your privacy.
Some people have the option to give fake name, disposable emails and P.O Box like the one from the company someone work from, I see it not appropriate but can be good to avoid such mistake too. But your comment is more perfect, going to store, buying it physically will be the best. I see it as a way data breach of a thing may not occur, and even if it occured, it will not centralized it on ledger wallet only unlike data breach of the ledger wallet site which makes hackers to focus on the people that their data where breached, this is more recommendable for people in a way to avoid hackers.
5712  Economy / Speculation / Re: The profit in Bitcoin hodling/holding on: January 06, 2021, 11:40:18 AM
But you need to understand both, you need to deal with the two so that you can have different sources of profits.
The kind of knowledge needed by traders is more than the knowledge needed by holders, it should also be known that trading carries highest risks. For experts, trading can be a potential way to earn more bitcoin, some even can margin the trade or have a future contract. But trading is not easy and not for everyone like holding can be. People may only have little knowledge about holding and yet have profit, holding is not risky like trading is, holding can be perfect for those that have little knowledge but want to invest.
5713  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you rather pay central bankers tax, or government? on: January 06, 2021, 11:28:14 AM
I do not see your argument valid in any way, fiats are fiats while bitcoin is a cryptocurrency. You pay fist tax to governments and your country become developing, but how about crypto exchanges, did you think they are not paying the government of the country which under which they are operating tax? They pay. Also, in some countries like USA now, you still have to pay crypto tax. In many countries where crypto tax is not yet enforced, it can be enforced later.
5714  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The best way to by ledger wallet on: January 05, 2021, 08:49:18 AM
Ledger wallet is safe if you deal on a legit site, I just bought a new one for my friend and after weeks we've received the package and was sealed properly.
I am not saying your ledger wallet is not the real one, but because it is sealed does not mean it has not been preconfigured. There are hackers that can preconfigure hardware wallet and seal it back. Or is there a way someone can know legit seal from hackers seal?

I think it will be good to know how new ledger wallet will start after it is opened in a way it will first generate seed phrase and pin. There have been people that bought hardware wallet that started immediately to work with already generated seed phrase which has been known to hackers that generated it, I am not sure if this fake ones will come with a seal but very possible it comes with a seal.
5715  Other / Beginners & Help / The best way to by ledger wallet on: January 05, 2021, 08:24:52 AM
If to ask before from people the best way to buy ledger nano, almost every expert will recommend people to buy it directly from ledger official site because the wallet will be directly from them and shipped directly to the buyer's address. There has been few complains about buying from resellers that they sell used hardware wallet, many people think the best is to buy it directly instead of resellers. But we can see the recent ledger breach that have stolen bitcoin from many ledger wallet users, it is not only bitcoin that was only stolen altcoins were included. It has lead to many phishing attacks and also threatening emails that make hackers to promise of visiting ledger wallet people at their homes.

There are many stories I have read online, another one is that a hardware wallet can be cloned, that means it is included with malware or vulnerabilities that will make people use the hardware and later lost their bitcoin to hackers that cloned it, I only read it but it is what is happening that is included which make it very true that there are cloned hardware wallet.

Now how can people buy ledger wallet, the official site now make people panic and afraid to buy. Are resllers the safe way to buy ledger wallet and hardware wallet generally because the official site that keeps data of buyers can be hacked which makes it not safe for ledger buyers.
5716  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Is bitbox02 good? on: January 05, 2021, 07:56:55 AM
Trezor is still one of the best hardware to use, but just due to preference you do not want to choose it, but that is not bad when their are alternatives. The ledger nano data breach has been making many people not to want to use ledger nano again and also putting many people in doubt. Some people were threatening even on calls and messages and also many phishing attempts. It will not be advisable to buy ledger from the ledger wallet official site, it will only still expose your data to the world which can be very detrimental in the future or later. If you see a trusted reseller, that is still good and make sure it is new if you after your open it. It will newly generate you seed phrase and also you will be able to set a pin.
5717  Other / Meta / Re: What is Account Lock for Sequrity Reason? on: January 04, 2021, 01:23:06 PM
I am not sure if I can sign a message with these addresses now. but why do I need to do that? my account is not hacked. I can still login into my account with my 3years old password. I don't think I need to sign a message in this case.
You can login but can you access the account? It is not possible. The admin or moderators locked it and only them can unlock it. It is just normal for you to proof that you are the owner of the account. Those addresses are the addresses you have used before on this forum, if you can not sign any of it, that means you can not reclaim back your account. Tomatocage stake-address thread was meant for reasons like this, to prove the ownership that an account belong to the right owner.
5718  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Advice - What wallet for iphone/ios? Electrum is not supported?? on: January 04, 2021, 01:06:34 PM
Downloading wallet from app store is totally not safe because you can mistakenly download a fake wallet. Using the official website for any wallet to download will be better. Like electrum wallet the official site is electrum.org which you can download electrum wallet from. It sopport computer, Android and iOS.

Follow the quote to know how to download and verify electrum wallet.
The latest one is 4.0.9. Make sure to download it from here and verify the installation file. Your wallet should open without any problems since wallet files are not removed during updates or uninstallation. Do you have your recovery seed just in case?
5719  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: I sent 0.24 BTC from Electrum to in exchange for USDT and I have not received. on: January 04, 2021, 12:02:01 PM
If Electrum does not support USDT then how could they have sent the confirmed USDT to that address and where did my USDT go?
You need to be careful while sending cryptocurrencies, there are many cases that funds are lost and not reversed because of sending to a wrong address. If supposing you send the tether to bitcoin custodial exchange address, you will lost all, while the exchange will be the one to take the tether.

The transaction is confirmed to the Electrum Receive address but I have not received my USDT
That is why noncustodial wallets are the best because you have full control over it because you have the private key. If the transaction has been confirmed, that means if you import the private key or seed phrase of the electrum wallet to a wallet that will support tether successfully, you will see your tether.
5720  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: I sent 0.24 BTC from Electrum to in exchange for USDT and I have not received. on: January 04, 2021, 11:47:00 AM
Do you use Electrum to receive USDT too?? Can you clarify your statement because electrum don't have USDT wallet address. Where do you get your wallet address? Can you indicate here the USDT wallet address that you use?
What he meant is that he sent bitcoin from electrum wallet to an exchange (ChangeNOW), after he exchanged the bitcoin to tether, he sent the tether to electrum wallet back.

Electrum wallet supports only bitcoin it does not support tether but your tether is not lost. The first thing you will need to tell us is the tether address, if it is similar to bitcoin address, then get a wallet that support tether omini layer, Coinomi is close source wallet but it will be the best for this purpose. Just download Coinomi, import the private key of the bitcoin address you use to receive the tether, once imported, you will be able to see your tether balance which you can also be able to send.
