5721  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: FTC issues public warning about new crypto ATM scam on: January 12, 2022, 04:00:02 PM
~snip~

The world is full of naive people and those who take advantage of it, the internet and cryptocurrencies are unfortunately being abused to the extreme. I do not see that anyone can put an end to this in the near future, the matter has simply spiraled out of control and resembles me of this pandemic in which we now live. It is true that we have medicines, but they are not nearly as effective as one would like them to be. It is similar with the fact that we have the police, special departments for financial crime, and a whole miracle of things on a declarative level - but in practice, they only touch the tip of the iceberg.

Trusting someone online is like shooting yourself in the foot.

In general, this is true - although there are specific cases when we can still adjust this rule. A good example is this forum where trust can be gained over time, but we are also sometimes unpleasantly surprised by people we have had great confidence in.
5722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Strike has launched in Argentina on: January 12, 2022, 03:26:27 PM
On the one hand, it is positive that people in Argentina will get an additional option to invest in Bitcoin, but does that mean that the average resident of that country will now start investing more in Bitcoin than before? It seems to me that it will not, because the availability of such an application will not increase investment in Bitcoin because the poor man does not invest in anything other than in the basic things he needs for life. In addition, Bitcoin sometimes loses in value much more than paper money, and it's not at all pleasant to wake up in the morning and see that you've lost 20% - this may mean that you may not be able to pay for electricity or gas that month.

I am surprised that foreign remittances are not mentioned, because this is something on which Strike based his business in El Salvador, and this is also the case in negotiations with the Tonga authorities.
5723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some people I can use as a reference to add enthusiasm to being in bitcoin. on: January 12, 2022, 03:03:19 PM
I don't see any logic in someone being enthusiastic when they read that some people have gotten rich in the past because they bought/invented some altcoins, and that should probably suggest that some shitcoins can pay off if you're lucky in life.

Many want to copy the success of people like this, but the fact is that 99.99% never manage to do something like that. People need to be told that these are not the rules by which one becomes a billionaire, but only rare exceptions.  I hope that all 12-year-olds will not get the idea now to give up school and, with the help of their grandmothers, start a business with cryptocurrencies...

In addition, no one who openly supported the biggest attack on Bitcoin (2017 fork) can be any positive reference when it comes to Bitcoin.

“I was optimistic about Bitcoin Cash specifically, because I agreed with the big-blocker arguments in the scaling war more than the small-blocker argument,” Buterin wrote on Saturday in response to a 2017 tweet he wrote about BCH. Crypto Twitter was quick to respond to Buterin’s critique. “It was not a good cause,” wrote Blockstream co-founder and CEO Adam Back. “It was a rejected corporate takeover attempt. Learn history man. You supported it even. Meh.”
5724  Economy / Economics / Re: Is PayPal plannning to Launch of Own Stablecoin? on: January 12, 2022, 12:27:01 PM
We already have USD Coin. No need for PP coin. It won't make any difference.

PayPal doesn't care that there are dozens of stablecoins, they are interested in making their own. It has become big business, and PP has obviously smelled profit in that, they are not the first or the last to make their stablecoin. What fascinates me most is the fact that people use stablecoins en masse, not only for trading, but also to store their money thinking it's a safe way - and they don't know that most stablecoins can be frozen even if you keep them in a non-custodial wallet. Another stablecoin in a row, but with the PP signature will surely attract a bunch of potential users who will use it.
5725  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can't open electrum after installing Monterey OS on: January 12, 2022, 11:43:48 AM
Yep, they are if you aren't familiar. If I were you I'd just buy a hardware wallet and sleep easy.

If everything was that simple, then anyone with a hardware wallet would be completely safe from any possible danger - and that false security cost many who lost everything they had. The average cryptocurrency user who does not understand the importance of backup (more than one&multiple locations) and storing it properly is still at high risk. Even the common claim that HW can be used on infected devices can be counterproductive if the user is not aware of the existence of crypto clipboard malware and how to protect themselves from it.

The fact is that anyone who uses HW is still just a click away from making a donation to a scammer.
5726  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: 1xbit scam me more then 2000 euros on: January 12, 2022, 11:00:20 AM
I'm not so sure about that. First of all, I doubt that they will get any new players from this forum. Their main thread in the gambling board is filled with mostly scam accusations and a few shills who relentlessly post baloney because they get paid for it. Secondly, when we google "1xbit scam", we find that Bitcoin Talk (with a list of a number of scam accusation topics) ranks first. I believe this should discourage at least some uninformed players from playing at this scam casino.

I wouldn’t bet that’s how you think, because there’s one big problem with this whole army of new online gamblers - they mostly understand English very poorly, and they also think they’re the smartest in the world and can do it all themselves. The desire to gamble is much stronger than someone spending even 30 minutes of their time researching who to give their money to. How else to explain all those people who are constantly showing up with their “I am scammed” stories?

So I think we are doing a good job here and these scammers will regret ever coming back to this forum.

As far as I can see, they have no intention of leaving the forum, which means that the traffic they generate through the signature campaign is important to them - and the forum's "we don't moderate scam" policy only helps them achieve their goal.
5727  Economy / Economics / Re: Peter McCormack: 'Bitcoin has WON the war on money'. Do you agree? on: January 12, 2022, 10:44:31 AM
Those stores are auto-settling their crypto into fiat.  It is too volatile to hold on their balance sheets.

The fact is that a lot can be bought for Bitcoin, regardless of the fact that payment processors are in play - but that only proves that you are wrong when you say that nothing can be bought for Bitcoin. Bitcoin is conceived as a decentralized cryptocurrency, and the fact that it is increasingly becoming a kind of digital gold is just proof that most people do not understand its true essence.

Out of curiosity, what is it that I am perceived to be promoting?

I don't understand why you ask such a question if the answer is more than obvious? Don't just tell me that your nickname on the forum is completely coincidental and that you have nothing to do with what this service represents? It is fascinating that people who have such an opinion about Bitcoin spend their time on a forum like this - but you are neither the first nor the last to try to sell some idea better than Bitcoin.
5728  Economy / Speculation / Re: [POLL] Will Bitcoin dip below $40K? on: January 11, 2022, 03:32:31 PM
Hopefully today’s Bill Miller statement will get some other big money on board the pump.

Hardly anyone these days reacts to what Bill Miller or Michael Saylor will say no matter how much money they invest in Bitcoin. If, on the other hand, one such statement were given by Mr. Mars or Mr. Microsoft, I’m sure the price of BTC would jump by at least 20% in less than 24 hours. If you meant this statement, then the effect was completely absent because the average Joe has no idea who Bill Miller is, regardless of whether he invested 50% or 100% of his wealth in Bitcoin.
5729  Economy / Economics / Re: Peter McCormack: 'Bitcoin has WON the war on money'. Do you agree? on: January 11, 2022, 03:13:31 PM
Also, keep in mind that Peter McCormack is not an expert on Bitcoin, money, or economics. He is obviously an expert on podcasting and interviewing, though.

If we take all this into account, then his opinion is completely irrelevant, as is opinion of most so-called experts who just want to profit by parasitizing on Bitcoin.

No it didnt win anything.  It didnt even do anything.  What can you buy with Bitcoin?  Money buys stuff.  Assets inflate into bubbles.  Bitcoin is the later.

I can buy almost anything for Bitcoin in my country, crypto payment processors are becoming widely accepted in many online stores that sell everything possible that one could wish for. Your attitude towards Bitcoin is understandable given what you are promoting as the ultimate solution - but for those of us who understand what Bitcoin is, such statements have no effect.
5730  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some Legit Tips for Newbs that will help you Win on: January 11, 2022, 02:53:43 PM
7. Do not trust anyone

If you maintain this attitude, You will end up fearing on anything and never venture out to have a good gains. You should be specific on this advice because this is too generalized. Crypto is already established compared before that has a lot of Ponzi and scam exchange compared to current condition that regulators are already watching and regulating most of the crypto projects.

I would not agree that this is how you claim, because new crypto projects are created at an incredible speed and most have no meaning or purpose - so the chances of an average user losing their money are high or very high. Most crypto projects are completely unregulated and are in a gray area, and by the time they come under the radar of the authorities, it is too late for all those who are deceived, and the owners have made a profit and are starting all over again with some new projects.
5731  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: FTC issues public warning about new crypto ATM scam on: January 11, 2022, 02:42:51 PM
I remember there were scams in Canada that involved crypto ATMs and fake calls to people to pay taxes that way. What is even more interesting is that the targets were mostly immigrants to Canada who proved to be easy targets for fear of being deported.

It’s amazing how people think and then even sue the company that owns ATM as the culprit for what happened to them. The case of a woman who lost as much as $62 500 in this way, and after that a lawsuit against the company, became known around the world.

5732  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: 1xbit scam me more then 2000 euros on: January 11, 2022, 02:31:04 PM
"Good Day. We want to inform you, that our company decided to stop any collaboration with you (closing your account).
The decision was made after a careful investigation of the situation by our security service. The decision is based on a violation of the Terms and Conditions."

At least they let you know, very nice of them. Although it is indicative that they blocked you after the first major withdrawal attempt, but they claim that it was done after a careful investigation that lasted as long as 5 minutes Roll Eyes

Personally, I don't understand people who literally throw thousands of EUR or $ on online gambling, especially without checking who they give their money to. In a way, they bear much of the responsibility for what happens to them.
5733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Lost Private Key 30+ BTC - Future Chance of Recovery? on: January 11, 2022, 02:01:42 PM
Does anyone know of any mainstream Poker sites that accepted Bitcoin in 2011?

I've been digging around a bit, and there seems to be at least one such site during 2011 - SealsWithClubs. Although the article mentions an event called Black Friday in the poker community (April 15, 2011) when the US Department of Justice seized the three largest such sites, which probably means that there may have been many less well-known sites in the US, and probably in other countries as well.

5734  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: hep me user file account exodus on: January 11, 2022, 01:27:25 PM
thank you , is file .board
it is generated and tied to a fixed number of bitcoins before being sent to me
maybe it's like a hardware wallet file
or the extension is not json

Strange way for someone to send you BTC, and it seems to me that it is very easily possible that it is a scam. The only way for a wallet recovery is a private key or seed, there is no file that can do this with a hardware wallet, and I guess not with an Exodus wallet.

Maybe you should try to ask the person who sent you that file how to get Bitcoins, even though the whole thing is pretty suspicious.
5735  Economy / Economics / Re: The crisis in Kazakhstan. Entering the occupation troops. Impact on the crypto on: January 10, 2022, 02:55:02 PM
Yeah, just like the invasion of Hungary or the Prague Spring, they are all covered by treaties to help protect, the ones in power not the country. I wonder if Serbia had used such a treaty to allow Russia to support and invade Croatia to regain control of the country, what would your opinion about it be  Wink

I would not agree that it is the same thing, the disintegration of Yugoslavia is something completely different. In addition, Russia has tried to find a peaceful solution to the conflict, while the UK and some other Western European countries have supported Serbia in quelling the insurgency in any way. But even if the Russians came to the aid of their Orthodox brothers by some chance, they would not have had a good time in Croatia, I am sure.

The agreement that the countries of the former Soviet bloc have is something completely normal for me - regardless of the fact that it is now used in this way.
5736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: btc transaction withdraw not showing in my wallet on: January 10, 2022, 02:25:54 PM
That would explain it, thank you would my computer of been infected from a download of some sort ?

Forget about torrents, pirated software, and pornography on your computer that you use for serious things, because that way you will sooner or later infect your computer. In addition, it is advisable to invest in security software from reputable manufacturers, because proactive protection definitely makes sense - with regular updates for the OS.

Listen to the advice to format the HDD and start with the fresh OS, and then listen to my advice and watch what you do in the future.
5737  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everyone will receive a paper wallet in their post. Then what? on: January 10, 2022, 02:11:21 PM
What will happen to the bitcoin price when everyone starts receiving empty bitcoin paper wallets with everything they get on the post?

People have a habit of throwing unimportant mail without opening it, and it seems to me that 80% of people would throw that paper in the trash - so nothing would happen, maybe people would just be angry that someone delivers such things to their mailbox. On the other hand, if the wallets weren’t empty, some might try to figure out how to cash in that paper wallet.

If you have some extra BTC, do an experiment and surprise your neighbors Wink
5738  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: FIVE HELPFUL TIPS THAT WILL BE EFFECTIVE IN AVOIDING CRYPTOCURRENY SCAMS. on: January 10, 2022, 12:44:11 PM
It is always good to warn others how to avoid scams, but the problem is that most people do not want to listen to such advice and do what seems right to them at a given moment. Cryptocurrencies are an ideal platform for online scams because everyone wants to get rich overnight, and the idea of magic money has spread like a virus that attacks everyone, from the youngest to the oldest.

The key is education in primary school, because if children learn something at that age, then they will remember it for a lifetime. If most were aware of how dangerous the internet is, surely the success of scammers would be much less.

No easy earnings, no projects offering 1000% for a week, and no celebrities donating coins on social media.
5739  Economy / Speculation / Re: What do you think about Bitcoin? on: January 10, 2022, 12:27:35 PM
I wonder when the price of Bitcoin will reach $ 100k +.

The surest bet is that it will happen after halving 2024, although no one has a crystal sphere that can show the future. However, this obsession with $100k is becoming a bit ridiculous, because it was the same with $1000 and $10k - and there will always be some new goal and some new number. I wonder if people realize that the price is not going up on its own, but that the demand should be much higher than the supply - and that most who invest in Bitcoin do it for profit.

Some time ago, I saw a tweet on the forum in which it was written that Bitcoin could be worth $100k if everyone decided not to sell for just one day - so simple, and we all know the impossible.
5740  Economy / Economics / Re: The crisis in Kazakhstan. Entering the occupation troops. Impact on the crypto on: January 10, 2022, 12:10:41 PM
Miners have made a bad decision by moving into this country after china's ban on BTC mining. Internet shut down, more troops are coming from Russia tension is high. Can we see another situation like Ukraine?

Crypto miners were primarily guided by the fact that electricity is cheap and that the location is close enough to have lower relocation costs. Obviously, no one could have predicted that the political situation would change in such a dramatic way, but it is a risk that always exists.

What has Ukraine got to do with this? The Kazakh government has called on the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which is something like NATO, to help it in its efforts to regain control of the country.  It is not about any occupation, but military assistance according to pre-agreed agreements.

Faced with mounting unrest, Kazahkstan's government appealed overnight to the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) for military aid against what it called "terrorist groups". Here is what you need to know about the Russia-led alliance of six ex-Soviet states: It groups together some of the signatories – Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan – of a 90s-era security pact among former Soviet republics.
