5761  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Spending from paper wallet. on: March 31, 2018, 08:38:17 AM
Thanks!

Im only claiming, from my empty paper wallet.
If they (those empty addresses) didn't have any balance before the forks (which is obviously none for an unfunded paper wallet),
will not get any forked coins at all.

I assume that your post was a reply to the top post before that reply.
Otherwise: wait what?  Huh
5762  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Rig keeps shutting off on: March 31, 2018, 08:20:01 AM
Tried sorting out the problem through deduction?

If you can afford to halt your operation, remove all the cards, one PSU and their risers.
Plug the newly added card to the best "working" riser and mine using only that card.
If the rig shuts down again, it's a bad card, if not, it's something else.

Better if you have a spare MoBo w/ components and a PSU for testing.
5763  Other / Meta / Re: Report Sufficiently Answered Topic(s) to Lock on: March 31, 2018, 07:45:15 AM
I'd just be happy if there was an auto lock after x days with no posts system and the OP could reopen if they need to. I always want to check threads I've posted in for replies directed @ me and it is a real pain when dead threads are bumped for no reason.
The problem with this is: threads that are needed to be locked are the ones which receives regular posts, thus, those will not get locked.
Using that "auto-lock" feature will help necro-posting but not the spam problem.

Together with automatic or moderated "report spam" and...
Including the Author's Rank, Last Active Date and new Poster's Rank to the basis might lessen the harm on thread locking automation.

Examples:
  • The threads of a Newbie-Member account which last login date was a year ago needs to be "soft-locked" after X period of time, only Full members or above can post a reply triggering "unlock" to the thread. That way, necro-posting newbies cannot revive an old thread, only established members can.
  • A thread of an active Full Member was reported as "spam thread" (can be automated or moderated), the Author will receive a notification about a request to lock his thread. Since the Author is active, he can receive and respond to that notification, this can apply to active newbies and members as well.
  • A thread of an inactive Full Member was reported as "spam thread", the thread will be "soft-locked" but will not be automatically locked.

In regards to the notification, it could be a warning for a read-only or ban-able offence in extreme case scenarios.

Still, the best way is to get this moderated by responding to "lock this thread" reports, but that's much of a hassle for Moderators.
5764  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Business Model Question: Is it ok to use Crowdsale to obtain Wholesale Discounts on: March 31, 2018, 06:17:43 AM
As far as I know, ICOs offer investors discounts or rather bonuses for the "early birds" and it works wonders.
Experimenting on gimmicks like extra discounts are a good thing, the wholesale discount can be a good addition if you use it well.

The truth is, ICOs aren't totally trusted by the crowd, what they trust is each-other's decisions.
People want to join an ICO which is "selling like pancakes", one reason is, they could be thinking that "it's a good one because the fund is growing faster than anticipated"
With the early bird bonus, the crowdfunding can achieve a boost at the start of the fundraising that is most of the time displayed in the Webpage, which is an eyecandy for potential investors.

With this, offering a wholesale bonus together (do not disregard the "usual") with the earlybird bonus can help the success of the ICO.
Although, the usual early bird bonus is good enough, another gimmick wort hunt.

Keep in mind that the most success-driver for crowdfunding is its offered services or end-products, not the bonuses.

Regards.

My little hobby rig cannot find a coin to mine thats profitable. Even with $0.06kWh electricity Im losing money from this point on.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSUIQgEVDM4
Lol, I clicked the youtube link hoping that it might be a documentation of your rig or your calculations, thinking you might gone wrong.
Anyways, this video might help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ  Wink

Shhhhh DONT TELL THEM THE SECRET  Grin
The secret is, buy an ASIC.
5766  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Will it be possible to user bitcoin core without downloading whole blockchain ? on: March 30, 2018, 10:02:06 AM
You can also store blockchain in a separate hard drive and make sure that it is available every time you run the program. Read more ----> https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/43636/how-do-i-relocate-my-bitcoin-data-in-bitcoin-qt-to-save-space/43637#43637
I underlined a phrase from your reply that got me think twice to consider running a node.
Is that means that I need to re-sync the whole node everytime I close it if I use bitcoin core with pruning activated?
5767  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Incomplete send from Electrum to BitPay card on: March 30, 2018, 09:41:39 AM
If I broadcast my transaction now, more than a week after the BitPay invoice expired, what will happen?

Will my btc go into limbo and then be returned or Huh
Their address will receive it but you will not get credited from it.

If you didn't already broadcasted the signed transaction, you can Select the Saved Transaction
from History->Right Click->Remove to delete it.

It will remove the "displayed" deducted balance from your address and return to its actual value.
5768  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: CryptoSamaritan - mental health resource for crypto-related addiction/depression on: March 30, 2018, 08:43:28 AM
Sorry to say but, I believe that those type of addiction cannot be directly linked to cryptocurrency.

For example: "Cryptocurrency gambling" is Gambling Addiction, fiat replaced by digital currencies doesn't necessarily means that the addiction was related to cryptos.
But don't take this the wrong way, your initiative is good and seems like the "general idea" is also needed by the non-cryptocurrency related addicted persons.
Perhaps, you can widen your Target Market? by including them in the assistance program.

Regards.
5769  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: When new coin mined, if some address receives share of it on: March 29, 2018, 03:33:56 AM
You're talking about a "mining pool".

Originally in major coin blockchain's design, the block reward will be generated in the block discoverer's address in whole.

Pools are designed to "gather" multiple miners and mine using their total Hashrate.
In pools, they have an API which "mince" the reward, split it among the miners who joined the pool, the amount they will receive will be based depending on their share (individual hash rate).
5770  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can make specific people only can mine to some coin? on: March 28, 2018, 05:42:13 AM
I don't know if IP check is possible and if it was, the blockchain will be designed to choose which miners to accept?
I sorry to tell you that, any device can be easily configured to mimic that specialized hardware if someone like Bitmain (ASIC manufacturer) wants to step up their game.
That was Crytonote and Scrypt promised years ago.

Funny thing is, the only option for any coin to be ASIC-proof is to become unprofitable for them to avert their eye on your coin... or be centralized.

With that, what's the point of making A Coin as a decentralized digital currency if you're going to choose the miners and discard the rest of the community?
5771  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can make specific people only can mine to some coin? on: March 28, 2018, 05:08:28 AM
Ok, so you don't want to decentralize your coin but to prevent ASICs from joining.

That would be hard, anything that a GPU/CPU can compute can be [r]renovated (into ASICs).
A newly developed algorithm will only solve the issue temporarily, as seen in the past ASIC-proof coins.
As a Cryptocurrency, it's impossible to select specific hardware while blocking others.
This is pretty much what you're implying.

As for the hardware, if you managed to make a "your-coin-specific mining hardware/GPU" and other GPU and ASICs can be easily outperformed by it, that is still a temporary isolation/solution.
If even your coin became profitable and famous, the chance that ASIC manufacturers to make an ASIC based on your coin can be high.
Even if your hardware is different and unique, it still has a "processor" which solves an algorithm that can be [r].
5772  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can not start standalone executable (WIN10) on: March 28, 2018, 03:36:21 AM
I'm using the same version of the stand-alone executable but on Windows7 (Regularly Updated).

Try opening it as Administrator,  "Windows7 Compatibility" or both.
(Right click Executable->Compatibility Tab->Select Windows7)
5773  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elliptic Curve DSA ? on: March 28, 2018, 03:26:24 AM
Forget the News, most of those are FUDs.

And NSA, even they can manage to have a reasonable computing power to bruteforce bitcoin private keys,
they can't totally do this in an alarming rate.
They will be needing an out-of-this-world supercomputer to "siphon" every highly funded bitcoin addresses.
5774  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Switched to risers for gpu mining ... not working now on: March 27, 2018, 08:04:15 AM
Can you describe how many watts PSU its?
If there's a problem with his Power Supply, the rig will not boot at all.
But still, there's no harm on telling us your PSU's brand and Power Rating.
Quote from: manji
Have you tried to reset bios via CMOS?
This is pointless, resetting the Bios doesn't always magically fix problems.

All GPU's fans are spinning means that the PSU supplied them enough power to start.
Either the PC can't detect the cards due to bad riser cables, PSU cables, bad riser or the problem was caused by claymore miner's settings misconfiguration.

Start by (any of the two):
  • Swapping undetected cards to the working Riser slot and insert the working card to the undetected riser.
  • Read claymore's thread and some documentations about it for the proper configuration.
5775  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: buying GPUs in Asia for US on: March 27, 2018, 07:16:18 AM
Did you read the part of the article that states "customers requesting 500 or 1,000 GPUs"? That clearly states that this cheap GPU sales might had already ended.
Those people must be the sellers of those high priced GPUs from ebay.

I can't tell the imported b-new price because most of my GPU's came from this 2nd hand shop: link

please advise ...
Reselling GPUs is not a good option for now. Even if you find cheaper cards abroad, shipping them can be a hassle.
The price might drop by half, the GPU mining profit has been declining since the start of February 2017.

Also, expect a 2nd-hand rush selling after the release of new NVidia Cards/Mining algorithm specialized cards.
5776  Other / Meta / Re: Avoiding board limitations by temporarily moving threads to another board on: March 27, 2018, 06:45:59 AM
How do you move a thread?, I cannot find the move topic area  Huh Embarrassed
If you are the topic starter:
-Open the thread you want to move.
-Scroll-down to the bottom of the page.
-Look for the "move topic" button: (Take Note: I've used this image in another thread that's why the "lock topic" was encircled)
5777  Economy / Speculation / Re: Copper - the forgotten hedge against inflation on: March 27, 2018, 06:13:01 AM
-snip-
I guess if you can get your hands on some copper pennies, that would work as well.
Pure Copper coins are rare.
There are some "collectible" copper coins out there but you will probably get more value out of its rarity (from collectors) than it's weight.
If you ever find any pure copper coin in circulation, stashing them might be illegal (In some Countries, keeping an unreasonable number of coins is illegal, like the Philippines).
5778  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to check if your Electrum Wallet is legit. (Linux) on: March 26, 2018, 01:59:30 PM
Why did you have to repeat and rephrase what you've said in this thread: Command line on Linux to verify Electrum?

You can just edit the OP and include your own reply (mentioning it as "edit" under a [hr] tag will do)
Bump the thread if you want it to get noticed, just don't forget to delete the bump later.
5779  Other / Meta / Re: What is pgp security? on: March 26, 2018, 01:31:11 PM
You will only be needing a PGP signature if you don't have any staked or posted Bitcoin Address in your previous posts.

I don't have the definitive idea of what PGP is, but I can give you the steps to look for off-forum answers.
  • Step 1: Open a New Tab or Browser Window
  • Step 2: Type google.com in the url bar, hit enter.
  • Step 3: Type "What is PGP" in the search bar, hit enter.
  • Step 4: Click the most relevant search result.

Thank me later.
5780  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What coins will be the best choice to add to crypto ATM? on: March 26, 2018, 10:21:20 AM
Nonetheless, Doge is a great option, it's been in the community for years now and they deserve more recognition.
+1 to this.
Seriously, why did I miss that in my previous reply? [l]

But take note, by saying Doge, he meant "Dogecoin", in case of any misdirection (there are tons of fake Doge in the wild),
the coins we're talking about and the ones you are looking for might be different, judging because of the way you spell Litecoin, just saying.
