Technology has never been uncomplicated.

Even on basis of that count, I'm not sure I agree that hardware wallets can't be considered end-user products. Or is it really the aim that hardware wallet owners should still retain elitism?
The problem with the mainstream is: not everyone has equal intelligence, age, time for research or money to use a certain service or product.

Hardware wallets for example isn't foolproof nor cheap.
A 12-year old, unemployed man, my cat and a busy professional all belongs to the mainstream and can't use a hardware wallet or electrum and especially not bitcoin core.
They need something that is a ready-to-go product like my example that does the job in a click of a button.

In comparison: Computers.
Computers aren't simple, when it first came to existence, all it can do are simple tasks that even the mainstream can't understand and purchase.
Look at it now, there's OS depending on the user's preference, and judge what the mainstream have chosen.
The one which is simpler to use.

All I'm saying is, (in OS term) what we are using today can be the "Linux" of tomorrow.

I'm able to view it despite being a newbie, is it due to the whole Copper Member privilege?
Likely yes, I can't access the link using my newbie alt (nc50Ic).

5783  Economy / Speculation / Re: Poll: Do you believe the MtGox trustee is saying the truth? on: March 25, 2018, 11:11:13 AM
Why is he lying if he really sold his coins over that period?
There was a statement in the MtGox gox site similarly saying that "he sold some 'safe' amounts last December, January and February".
He certainly didn't lied, but in the poll, the second option must have happened because of the first option.

I agree that there is two scenarios that the mtgox controversies are might be lying or maybe telling the truth. What if they do both, they might hiding some important information between the lines. We can’t judge them, but we can’t trust them again? or we must because this is what bitcoin community build of, by trusting each and everyone.
Actually, Bitcoin was built by the community in order to directly transact to anyone without handling your money to someone you cannot trust.
Persons behind it didn't trust each other, that's why the code is hosted as "open source".
5784  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What coins will be the best choice to add to crypto ATM? on: March 25, 2018, 10:10:36 AM
I remembered something like that was installed (far from my vicinity) in my Country.
It didn't go well, but don't be discouraged by that.

As for the choices, having eight is good enough.
Start by the coins that Coinbase offers like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Lightcoin and Bitcoin Cash; then add the most-anticipated additions by the customers.

Your final choices will depend on where do you intended to install those ATMs, for US stick to the "coinbase list".
It's an ATM so, expect a non-crypto-person to be curious to that "new tech" of yours, the closest service they can get is coinbase, so it would be wise to have coins available to it added in your machine.
For Japan, add Monacoin.

Regards.
5785  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: My Electrum Wallet has been compromised. Please Help? on: March 25, 2018, 09:58:35 AM
Will Electrum compensate me for my loss? So many Electrum users have been compromised. My warning was ignored in the beginning.
Does the US Government compensate you if someone robbed your dollars? It's obvious right?
Electrum team didn't offer the wallet to you and you have agreed to their TOS.

There are too much things that might happened like:
  • Exported private keys was exposed
  • Malware
  • Phishing sites
  • Fake Electrum installer
  • Your seed was compromised during your backup process and
...The hacker may have just patiently waited for a reasonable balance to show before moving the funds.
5786  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we all criminals? Bitcoin Blockchain contains illegal data. on: March 24, 2018, 06:26:06 AM
There's a similar topic in the AltCoin Section that might have the answer to this: Is this FUD or a genuine cause for concern?
That can be a FUD or an indirect attack to destroy Bitcoin.

no there is no picture, there is only hashes on the blockchain. in facts it is only 80 bytes max data which you then have to decipher and then follow it until you get to a picture.
One reasonable thing is that some parts of those hashes when translated into human readable format results into "chunks" of data when arranged and put together became that "completed jigsaw puzzle" images and texts.

The whole blockchain is too huge that if you want to make something out of the hashes from the blocks is possible, it's even possible to find phrases/sentences out of it.
Like what they (FUD~ers) have been doing to books, highlighting words and making a mysterious "hidden" message to boost or destroy its fame.
Someone must have made up that news by finding those "hidden" evidence to spread that FUD.

It's a Retro FUD.

5787  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Pay instalments loan by blockchain on: March 24, 2018, 06:20:00 AM
For that, you totally need a trusted centralized body that handles the transaction, which can be done traditionally (banks).
Installment-based payment is out of scope of bitcoin blockchain's "trustless" payment solution, period.
5788  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Technology should make things simple! on: March 24, 2018, 05:26:57 AM
Technology has never been uncomplicated.
The term "Technology make things simple" only targets the mainstream which aren't the main users of any technology, they are the end-users.
It was advertised "as is" by the developers, manufacturers or service providers of technology-based products/systems, which doesn't see technology as simple as end-users experience.

Those hardware wallets, full nodes and 3rd-party clients cannot be considered as end-user items/software, that's why those has never been simple to use for a regular user.
What can be considered as an end-product is (for example) Coins (Payment system based in Asia). With that, people (whatever the age) can use bitcoin for paying bills online, remittance and personal trades without even having a single idea of what bitcoin is. (The same reason why there are too many Asian spammers here)
5789  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie Account with 10 Posts/Activity and 100 Merit ?! on: March 24, 2018, 03:59:13 AM
Here is the original quote from theymos that mentions him doing this recently :

I did a recount of post counts earlier today. There are several bugs which cause the post count to drift from its real value over time. The current count is the accurate one.

I've seen some really severe cases where the post count drifts by hundreds. Since it is an old account it is possible that it has drifted to quite a large degree. I imagine theymos should've done a post recount right before implementing the merit system to avoid this sort of thing, or maybe they did and something else has occcured. Either way, I'm not sure we can tell one way or another for sure what happened to this account unless people are able to find archives of their old posts and what not.
That certain bug affects only the displayed post count, not the activity which is the only basis of ranks before merit.
It can't be tied to the said reply by Theymos.

Why don't we ask GiGa# himself (he's still active according to his profile): Personal Message GiGa#.
5790  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: A way to not accept coins when a certain time passes at Bitcoin's address on: March 23, 2018, 06:55:08 AM
Ethereum can't do that, Bitcoin neither.

OpenZeppelin is not a part of the ethereum blockchain but a library built for making/writing smart contracts.

Depending on how the code is written, stopping the trade of a Token is possible. But they cannot block ethereum address from receiving other tokens or ETH.
It's the same as freezing of accounts to disable ERC20 Token distribution or trades which is "a must" for Smart Contracts.
5791  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitref and Electrum balances not matching on: March 23, 2018, 06:33:59 AM
After did bitcoin transaction. I've checked my balance in Electrum wallet shows correct but in BitRef its display significantly higher transaction amount.
Is it normal? What is my actual balance?Balance on bitref or balance from Electrum?
The "higher transaction amount" was an address that belongs to your electrum wallet.
Why you're seeing the correct balance in your electrum but not in BitRef is that every blockexplorer only displays the balance of an address, not all the addresses within a wallet.

As explained by bob123, that is called the change address.
It's like: You payed 10bucks for a 2bucks item using your right hand(input address), you received the change 8Bucks using your left hand(change address).

If you want your future transaction's excess btc to return to the same address, disable change address in the settings.
Tools->Preferences->Transactions->Uncheck "Use change addresses"
5792  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU MINING FORECAST 2020 on: March 23, 2018, 06:02:59 AM
2 Years to Capital Return. Sounds good if your prediction is close to what will happen.

If your're planing to upgrade, not now.
GPU's prices as you know it is unreasonably high and the whole cryptocurrency economy is bleeding.

Either wait for the new GPUs that NVIDA will release, not to buy them but for a higher opportunity to get lower priced 1080s.
or Wait for a pump in the Marketcap before using your ZEC or BTC to purchase the GPUs.

How about this case? I found this one by chance. 10 acitivities, newbie rank, 100 merits, and there is no merit history. What is this? Anyone can help to make a forensic analysis about the case (I am just kidding) because I am curious about this guy and would like to know what actually happened with the account.
Thanks all in advance.
I made a thread about that and received a couple of replies, here: Question about newbies with 100+ merits
The best possibility is written in the OP. Take a look.
5795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GEOCACHE AFRICA 2018 .1BTC is yours for the taking on: March 22, 2018, 09:36:08 AM
ok i found the last clue. but i dot need the prize. so the first person to reply with the answer. rodeo can declare them the winner..

so here is my hint:
i was pondering where it could be and i was going to ask the community this, and the answer came to me through a google search
"Ok so on the subject of clue finding, is anyone jammy enough to work it out because im about to give up because its not in my nature to reserve/watch a topic that i cant answer"

first person to reply with the answer wins rodeo's prize
Your clue is way too obvious  :)
It just took 4 minutes for someone (must be the first person to see your post) to google search the clues.

It could be more exciting.
5796  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Limitations of Blockchain. What are they? on: March 22, 2018, 07:12:07 AM
I still havent got the meaning of blockchain means what are they and why are they even used?
Then, try your best to digest this: Wikipedia/Blockchain

I made my research about blockchains limitations and one of which is Human Error. Here it says,
If a blockchain is used as a database, the information going into the database needs to be of high quality. The data stored on a blockchain is not inherently trustworthy, so events need to be recorded accurately in the first place.

The phrase 'garbage in, garbage out' holds true in a blockchain system of record, just as with a centralized database.
So you're saying that, if a monkey inputs a data into a blockchain-based database and the result was incorrect or an error, the problem came from the blockchain?
No, "human error" is not a blockchain limitation. If it was, Everything that involves human interaction has "human error" limitation.

But, the chorus has just ended Grin And it will be silent till the Coda.

For Christ sake, the graph says nothing, there's no rhyme on it, just random zigzags. Please stop these "technical" analysis already.

You can't predict market future from the past
Perfect Quote. Give this guy a merit.

-edit-

After voting, I've seen a lot of votes for C.
So, people are still optimistic that bitcoin's price will reach higher heights sometime within this next few months, eh.

That often happens because of the way the forum displays <CR> and <LF> characters. Try and make your message without using the Enter key to start a new line.

He must've added a space after the message body making errors to the verification tools.
Electrum can't verify his message, even with the "space".

I successfully verified his message via brainwallet but, the permalink still displays "unable to verify" and the space in the end was gone.
Here's the link that says "message failed to verify". First, click "Bitcoin-QT" then, manually add a space in the message (after from bitcointalk) to make it verifiable.

@holder99 Next time, do not add a space at the end of your signed messages.
5799  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Create Electrum using address on: March 21, 2018, 05:41:29 AM
You were the author of the thread: Electrum - Newly installed but i had an old one
You assume that those 2 addresses are the missing addresses from the newly restored electrum wallet right?

Now, to check if those addresses belongs to the newly created electrum wallet, open console (View->Show Console) type:
Code:
ismine ("YOUR_ADDRESS")
Replace YOUR_ADDRESS with one of the addresses.

if it said "TRUE" the address belong to the SEED that you used to make the wallet.

OmegaStarScream was right and I would like to know if those addresses start with 1, 3 or bc1, for reference?

According to the OP, the next button is still grayed-out (not clickable) after you typed the address.
It simply means that there's something wrong with the address' format or you missed a character during copying/typing.
5800  Other / Meta / Re: BitcoinTalk Question - Posting Pictures? on: March 21, 2018, 03:37:27 AM
Thanks, I was wondering that too. May I know what's the best way to post a picture. I heard that imgur is not very stable. Sometimes it get blocked? Is that true? Any other way to post picture?

Many thanks in advance!
This thread was from November, opening your own or replying to newer "img" threads is better.

A: Not at all, I always use IMGUR to host the images in my post and nothing was blocked.
Users reporting those are likely never used imgur before.
When copying your image link inside the [img][/img] tag, make sure that the one you copied has an image extension like .jpg, .png or .gif not the direct imgur picture link that ends with /hdjdbdhjd.

Thanks for the answers guys! I'll just set it up so that it will appear like magic once I'm bestowed with the required rank!
For Reference.
Anyone can test those post how they look if the images are displayed, even as a Newbie.
Simply go to the recent posts in your profile, there the images in your replies will load like you're a Junior Member.
