5781  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum server on Windows (or VirtualBox) on: September 27, 2021, 02:14:56 PM
I'm going to try fulcrum one day. It says on the github that "it should just work." and I discovered it because I keep looking at my electrum wallet console all the time and watch what server it connects to.

The thing is that form my search, here on Bitcointalk English areas, it was only you mentioning it. No offense, but I'd wait for a bit more, since "it should just work" doesn't imply that it would also do exactly what we'd expect. Maybe I'm paranoid, still, it would mean I'm running new unknown software with not much of trusted reviews.
I've seen a bit of info on Reddit, but mostly in BCash areas, which I skipped super fast.

Putini o sa iti dea cash in mana.

5783  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why some gambling sites allowed my IP and why some restrict it? on: September 27, 2021, 11:26:39 AM
For now I don't want to participate on any of their promotion nor to play since I mostly stick on casino which I trust for many months.

While I do understand your point (let others do the beta testing and let other see if the casino is honest), the way you've said it sound like you'd also be afraid that you may like this new casino Grin (I don't care, and I'm not affiliated with neither of the two, but it's funny)
5784  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why some gambling sites allowed my IP and why some restrict it? on: September 27, 2021, 11:10:10 AM
So I'd like to hear from you guys, please shed some light on my concern as I just like to get an accurate answer about my curiosity.

I can see that it' clearly stated in their Terms & Conditions

Tier 2 restriction (Cannot view, get IP-restricted page):
~
9. Philippines

Best would be to ask them why, still, since you asked for our opinion too, I'll say that what you wrote "gambling is not totally illegal in my country" should be the key. If there's any concern about a country, some will find a way to comply (or just not care), some will find out they cannot comply and some others will just simply avoid (the safe and easy solution).
5785  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: No vaccine no entry Casino house! on: September 27, 2021, 09:39:24 AM
I was faced with real-life situations in my city over the weekend, I visited a casino house close to my residence to have some fun time but on getting to the casino gate I was stopped by security at the gate and they demanded a covid 19 vaccine card which I don't have at the moment and I was denied entry I felt embarrassed but I have no option than to turn back. Is the situation the same in your neighborhood?

I expect this to happen more and more often. Afaik the governments are not really allowed to do this (discrimination cannot be in the law), but they kinda encourage businesses implement it "for their own safety".
I personally had to show the vaccination card only at the border, but I know that it was at least one festival you could enter only with proof you are vaccinated, had the illness in the last 6 months or you have a (very) fresh negative test result.
5786  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Will FTX be New Binance in Next Bull Run of 2025? on: September 27, 2021, 07:53:39 AM
The biggest problem that Binance predecessors had that cause each of them to be replaced by another exchange (ending with Binance) was their KYC enforcement among other things. Both Binance and FTX are pretty strict when it comes to KYC and I don't see that being able to replace Binance.

"If it's not broken, don't fix it". Indeed, as long as Binance is alive and well, I don't see any good reason for most to ditch it. If indeed it will be shut down, then the equation will change.
But now leaving Binance because of KYC and go to another KYC exchange looks counterproductive.
And the volumnes are still higher and afaik FTX doesn't issue debit cards, so Binance has an edge there too (although I honestly don't know how significant).
5787  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum server on Windows (or VirtualBox) on: September 27, 2021, 07:15:40 AM
Take a look here: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

What filesystem is the external drive formatted with? If it's NTFS mynode may not have installed that driver by default.

Also keep in mind, in general I don't know if it's going to work at all with mynode.
Getting all the other stuff to run with the data directory someplace else should be no issue.

BUT, since it was setup as an all in one, plug and play appliance I don't know if they made any assumptions about what files are where for other integrated applications.

They do have the standard telegram / discord / other support that you can ask them directly about.
Takes some time to get a reply now and then, but they always have replied.

-Dave

You made me hope for a minute  Cheesy
I indeed installed "VirtualBox Extension Pack", but it didn't help.

The drive is indeed NTFS, but, I think that the problem is not that because:

1. Also the guest additions CD is not seen.
2. The same NTFS drive is seen (as Shared Folder) in the Debian VM, and myNode is also Debian.

I think that for the shared folder I need the guest additions installed; since that's not seen, I'm stuck.

When I get some more time again, I'll give another shot to EPS on Windows. I think that I'm missing something very simple there. It would also make more sense than an extra VM.
myNode looks overly restrictive for my needs and I feel like even if that problem gets answered for me, I'll run very soon into another problem. But I'll keep it as a backup option if I have to get back to a VM.
Thank you.
5788  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Another Vaccination Lottery on: September 27, 2021, 07:02:19 AM
And how do you know the result isn't rigged? People who resist vaccine don't trust the government, and they won't trust the result is going to be fair. Cheesy
I just hope that the government won't get butthurt by how little this lottery affects people's decision, and then start door-to-door forced vaccination.

Afaik the raffle is held by the national lottery and many trust it's not rigged.
But.. I'm not part of that group  Grin

That's why I said that the 100 RON vouchers are more helpful for the actual people. The lottery is just a bonus; it has the potential to help as publicity though, but, again, they could have hired some public figures for that much cheaper.
5789  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: September 26, 2021, 05:04:49 PM
FYI, FTX has their logo on the Mercedes team F1 right where the driver's enter the car seat.
So you will see this when they switch to the driver's view during the race.

You can see FTX also while he's driving:

I was so sorry for Lando... what a hearthbreaking lesson... he was exaggeratedly overconfident and the rain was much heavier than he would have been expecting.
For those only seeing the result, it's "meh, same old story", but what a race! Interesting strategies for all and a lot of overtaking. Plus the drama at the end. It was a real pleasure to watch.
5790  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum server on Windows (or VirtualBox) on: September 26, 2021, 04:38:45 PM
No, I didn't move the vdi disk file, don't want to mix with that. I only want bitcoin core use that specific data dir.
The point is that since bitcoind worked well on Windows, I have already the data pretty much up to date on that HDD and I would rather not spend ages for a resync (I also don't have space for moving the data too much around).
Even more, that USB disk is only 500GB, which is fine for the blockchain, but not enough for the rest, hence that vdi should stay where VBox created it, where I do have other ~250GB free.

I tried to mount the USB drive directly into Virtual Box and it didn't work out.
If I remember correctly, the guest additions made me troubles. But, you know what? I'll give it a try a bit later and I'll come back with this.

Update:
I tried to insert Guest Additions CD, I cannot find it anywhere to run the additions.
I tried to use VBox Shared Folders feature (which works for me on the clean Debian!) and I don't find anywhere the corresponding folder.

So the directions I have:
1. [preferred] Make an Electrum server and a block explorer work on Windows
2. Anything I can install on Virtual Box as long as Bitcoin DataDir remains on the USB attached HDD. This is a special problem, since I am badly inexperienced with Linux.
2.1. I do have a Debian configured on a Virtual Box, with DataDir just fine, but I don't know how to make bitcoind start automatically with the system (and with that datadir); I didn't go with other steps yet there.
5791  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Chainalysis runs Electrum nodes. on: September 26, 2021, 04:29:15 PM
Since this indeed went off topic (sorry!) and it may get longer, I've moved the things to a new topic: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5362554
5792  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum server on Windows (or VirtualBox, or, even better, WSL) on: September 26, 2021, 04:28:42 PM
Later updates:
* I managed to make Electrum Personal Server work on Windows (see here and here)
* I compiled/installed electrs under WSL as HCP advised and it works on Debian!
* I compiled/installet BTC RPC Explorer under the same WSL as ETFbitcoin advised and it also works.

I am moving here a discussion which (mea culpa) went off topic somewhere else.

The relevant bits:

And since o_e_l_e_o came with very valid points for having own server and block explorer, I tried my luck and... it's not easy. I didn't manage yet to make any of those work on Windows (heh) and I am a bit undecided about trying out fulcrum, since I didn't find much of discussion about it here on bitcointalk.

I've also looked about using Bitcoin core with HW and.. hmm.. it looks unfinished and far from straightforward, so I pass that.

Any ideas?

The easiest way is to use virtualbox: https://www.virtualbox.org/
And then deploy the virtalbox version of mynode: https://www.mynodebtc.com/download

The upsides: it's easy, you don't have to install or learn anything, and there is a lot of support out there.
The downsides: You have to trust the people involved.
But, you do get a BTC node, a lightning node, an electrum server and a basic block explorer.

Keep in mind you are going to need enough free RAM & disk space on your PC to run it. And you are going to have to keep your machine running 24/7 to get access to it.

-Dave

I've tried that too yesterday, and didn't work out because the disk for the blockchain is connected though USB and VBox/myNode didn't like that.

In VBox my last attempt was with a proper Debian. I managed to get Bitcoin Core run and use that USB drive for the data, but I completely failed in making it start with the system. I suck at Linux and I know it  Grin

And on Windows, bitcoind is fine, but the Electrum Personal Server just doesn't do anything. Whatever I do it just tells "press any key to continue" and Electrum doesn't see it.

Getting a bit OT, but you moved the
Code:
mynode_vm-disk002.vdi
file to your USB dive and then told virtual box where it was and it still gave you problems?

Remember that vdi has more then just the blockchain on it. So, it will get much larger then just the blockchain.
If you really want to keep the data external, you might want to just get another external drive and put all of the mynode files on there. This way you can pick it up and move it to another PC with no real effort.

-Dave

I'll continue from here.

How good to offer this , in some countries specially in Asian countries in which giving groceries but this gives them tickets to choose what they want to buy in groceries .

Since most of the non-vaccinated seem to be now in the rural areas, with lower income, this is quite something.
And yes, it's nice that they can buy almost anything from that money (I know that alcohol and tobacco are not allowed, but that should not be a big issue).

5796  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Another Vaccination Lottery on: September 26, 2021, 09:02:12 AM
I think that actually it's not the lottery that may "inspire" more people get the vaccine in Romania.
One additional "detail" is that those getting the vaccine in these last months of 2021 will also receive 100 RON (~20 EUR) tickets they can use in supermarkets (in theory, for food).
The hugely rising numbers of infected people filling all the news also did their part.

The number of newly vaccinated is rising from lows under 5000/day in August to 15-20000 (and rising) lately.

That's quite interesting. Why did the hacker return the sum? Was it because of hackers honesty or somehow hacker revealed their trace anywhere? Can you please refer me a good article?

I'm surprised you don't know, it was kinda the news for August. However... since he first returned 260M, then the rest, there are 2 topics about it here:

5798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Best wallet for Android? on: September 25, 2021, 06:16:26 PM
I would not use any android wallet as my main wallet but more for some pocket money and small transactions, but if I had to choose I would go with some open source wallet.
Electrum is standard desktop spv wallet for Bitcoin but I don't like their mobile version, Mycellium wallet is full of adds, and I would better go for BlueWallet.
Samourai wallet is fine if you want to have more privacy but you will still need to run your own full node to be able to send Coinjoin transactions, and maybe the best and safest option would be to have combination of hardware wallet and mobile wallet.

Unfortunately the only Android wallet I know to properly support hardware wallet is Mycelium. Indeed, it's imperfect abd it's full of ads. Still, for now I don't have any good enough replacement.
From what I know Electrum doesn't support HW and from what I've read BlueWallet may be working with Coldcard (for Ledger and Trezor all I've got is how to import xpub for watch only wallet).
So if OP wants to use a HW, he may have to also consider this.
5799  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: September 25, 2021, 04:46:52 PM
Somehow, the race calendar was picked up incorrectly.
Now we need to compete in Italy or somewhere warmer. Smiley

It did occur to me that maybe, just maybe, this was done like this on purpose, to have a bit more interesting races too.
I mean, there are plenty of great drivers there, but on a dry track it tends to be boring... On the other hand, a bit of rain has the potential to bring a bit of drama, a bit more interesting race and results.

For now, I can say that I'm pleasantly impressed by the look of the starting grid.
5800  Economy / Economics / Re: [LIST] Countries that own bitcoin on: September 25, 2021, 03:28:21 PM
It would be more accurate to say that China seized a certain amount of cryptocurrencies, but they were also sold in 2020, at least according to some reports that were made public. So in the context of what happened in El Salvador, all these cases are completely different if we are talking about a government owning something because of investing, in relation to the possession of something as a result of a seizure.

I already said, a few days ago in this very topic that these coins, resulted from seizures are most probably not worthy for the list, since they are supposed to be auctioned (sooner or later).
Still, I think that they are of interest, at least to be mentioned (again: in a post, not in the topic).

Of course, the fact that those coins are already sold, is another story = it's an update I was not aware of and thank you for that.
