I got a problem with my wallet. It always said that my password is wrong but Im sure this is the good one.

Can I do something ??

If you still have the priv-key you can re-import that. Also you could try using a backup if you have one.

The whitepaper is pretty detailed. It's also very conservatively written, but I get the sense NEM/XEM has a grand ambition of positioning itself as another major Crypto 2.0 platform alongside Ethereum - am I reading too much into this or is that the case?

I'm not sure what you mean by conservative. I actually think it's quite the opposite with all the quotes in there Grin

With Windows, it is not a good idea to use the full node.  Use the Crypti Lite wallet instead.

There is an issue with the time sync within Windows that causes forks and the inability to sync the block chain.  In future releases, Boris is not going to release Windows versions of the full wallet because of this issue.  Windows versions will be Lite wallets only.  Full wallets will be Linux based.

You can try deleting the blockchain.db file and restarting the node.  This usually works.

What kind of issue is that ? Like what does it cause ?

With a 10 minute block time, or even a one minute per block time, the time on your windows computer can be off a few seconds from the official NIST time and still forge or sync.  But with the XCR 10 second block times, a difference of a few seconds in the time on your windows machine and the network time, as synced with NIST, has caused failures to forge blocks and forking of the block chain for that machine.

It is a problem with Windows, not with Crypti.

I'm guessing because the network is rejecting blocks that are outside of a certain time threshold (like too far in the future or past) ?

If a block sent to a Windows machine, or any delegate, is not returned in sufficient time, the block is sent to the next delegate in line to forge. The only affect on the network is a 10 second or so lengthening of the present 101 block cycle.  The delegate that forged that block too late is now on a possible fork.  At the end of the 101 block cycle, the network self corrects all delegates that may have forked, as well as updating the votes cast during that cycle, and moving delegates in or out of the standby mode to the 101 club.

If the delegate that missed forging in time is on a fork, and it is 80 blocks down, it can take awhile to resync.  Meanwhile, forging of blocks continues on the network as that delegate attempts to catch up.  Now, what if that delegate is sent another block to forge before completing the block chain sync?  Further forking?  I dont know for sure, but it is not helping to secure the network.

I see.
It's not really a huge issue as most delegates would prob have run on linux machines anyway but you could take a look at the NEM whitepaper when it comes out. The NEM devs have implemented their own timesync protocoll which results in nodes not being more than 1-2 seconds away from each other (I'm told it's usually within ms but 1-2 s are not unthinkable).

Interesting.
Is there really a big difference between POS in NXT and POS in Qora ? Has anyone made some actual comparison on how they behave given the same transaction history ?

The mobile app will be really good step up for NEM, We are looking for it!

Will there be a windows phone app? I really feel like i'm missing out very often using windows phone.. Or will it be available in the new WP10 environment (should support android and iOS apps?)

The mobile app will first be in android and iOS. No decision on windows has been made.  But as far as I know windows 10 I think is suppose to be the same OS on tablets, phones, and desktop so it will definitely support NEM.

Afaik microsoft wants to make it very easy to port android apps so one way or another it'll prob find it's way on windows 10 mobile.

anyway truth be told so far NEM is the worst user experience i've experienced in my literly 100s of alt client history.

Nonsense.

+100000000000

It is indeed a nonsense fudster. Not that I'm against Nxt but my worst experience was with the Nxt client and other stuff. Many people had problems especially the non-tech-savvy ones.

Nem is sooooo much easier, quicker (you don't need to download a mega blockchain cos you can connect to a third party node) and more userfriendly to newbies than some other coins out there. Transaction show up within seconds, the wallet (ok I don't like the picture on the splash screen) is very easy to setup and navigate.

I actually like the fact that you need to send a message to 1 Nem address to Polo, because you can generate everytime a new message if you want to keep your anonymity
+ I consider messages to be actually free since you're sending money anyway to the recipient.

As much as I support NEM, i do think it's important to not be entirely dismissive of criticism, even that of which may appear as fud or trolling (Lets face it, fudsters are pretty easy to spot when all they contribute is consistent negativity in their post history)

I do think NEM could benefit from more simplification and ease of use, but the same can be said for all crypto's -- crypto in general does have a massive hurdle to overcome in this field and it would be hugely beneficial to NEM if it were the first to accomplish it.

Everyone is very much aware of most of the issues that are being raised. The thing is that there is a huge difference between saying "Hey, this could be a lot more user friendly" and "Wow, this is the worst thing that has every happend to me".
Usability of NCC really does still need quite a bit of work. That's prob also one of the reasons everything that is needed to work on it was open-sourced. So others can join the development and help make it better instead of constantly nagging.

Also the mobile app will prob go a long way to make the simple things more convenient.

As an investor, it is really annoying to see people discussing nonsense topics here. Why don't you focus on NEM's development instead of feeding FUDsters and NEM haters. I would like to read more stuff that matters.

The real Nem community is on Telegram. I'd like to invite you to join them.

Does telegram actually require phone # to register  Huh

Yes. Privacy my ass. That's the reason I haven't joined.

Ah, I just remembered there is a web version too.  https://web.telegram.org/#/login

It would suck but a totally anon way to set it up is use a VPN with a US IP and set up a gmail account, then a google voice account, at which point I think you get a free phone number that you can use to register.  Or..... at least I think that is how it works.  No promises.

still need a phone number so sign-up (which is so totally retarded)
And also you'll need that phone-number again when you login which is why this one-time phone number thing doesn't work very well with the web-version.

I beg to differ. I only ever use the web version. I used a free pay as you go simcard to activate my account and never used it again. My phone is always out. Have been using Telegram for over a week now and never asked me to login or use my phone.

Do you have your browser on super paranoid mode ?
Once I closed my browser it asks me for credentials again.

Sup guys....still can't get in to my node!

NIS won't allow me to even log in to my wallet.

On IRC, Stoner21 helped me out with 99% of setup (for running an AWS node) but I eventually ran into the same problem he did...so I come to you now...

 Cry

How is anyone supposed to help you if you give no details on the problem ?

Wow, sorry..should have elaborated more on the NIS issue Roll Eyes

when I try and run it in my AWS node, it keeps returning a big red 'FAILED'

when running the desktop icon, everything appears to work fine, but when opening my wallet in a browser, it just gets stuck at the wallet password screen - I type my password, hit log in, a green icon 'loads', but my wallet never opens (its reminiscent to a browser running without javascript)

Do you have a space, dot or something like that in your wallet name ? That's what usually causes these "nothing happens" issues.

FFS.....I'm getting very bored with seeing this constant NEM vs NXT bickering. It's becoming totally frigging pointless.

Both communities should be able to find something better to do than snipe at each other.

Honest question. How many nemsters are in the NXT thread doing that ?
If we look at this thread it's always the same few nxters initiating it.

If you want to discuss NEM and related things join the forum and if you like it telegram. This thread here is shouldn't be considered part of the community anymore. It's prob only open to direct new people to other channels.
597  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Is NEM really that GOOD ???? on: May 09, 2015, 08:51:12 AM
My prediction is that NEM will probably take the role of NXT's "Litecoin". I think there is great potential for the platform, and NEM does bring a few good ideas and innovative concepts to the table (such as their POI algorithm which has never been attempted before). Litecoin did the same back in 2011. It allowed people without GPU farms to mine it, and it had a faster block time which meant that people had to wait less for confirmations. Like Litecoin, NEM offers some potential advantages over NXT but also like Litecoin, I personally don't feel that these advantages are significant enough to overcome the fact that NXT got there first.

That isn't to say that the NEM community won't grow over the next months/years or that the technology is destined to die. It just means that it's unlikely that NEM will overtake NXT, that's all. Even utopianfuture seems to have liked the Litecoin comparision. When drawing up the specifications for NEM, he copied Litecoin's practice of multiplying the total coin supply by 4 (which was later abandoned however).

I'm not a software dev, but I have some experience in software development and programming. I've seen snippets of NEM's code and it looks to be well written (although the same also went for Qora too which wasn't exactly a success). Then again, it's the ideas that matter and not the quality of the code. NEM has good ideas, good distribution, good devs, and the beginnings of a good community. I think it has a bright future. Smiley

I whish everyone was levelheaded enough to write down their thoughts in this manner. I may not agree 100% of what you're saying but I respect that you kept it clean Smiley

I would agree with you if NXT was already was what BTC was when LTC came. I don't think NXT has the adoption yet (not that BTC has much of "real" adotpion but you know what I mean ?) that would prevent NEM - or any other crypto - to take it's spot. IMHO there isn't much of a spot to take as the majority of people haven't even heard of either of them.

Can't argue with the fact that NXT is far ahead regarding 3rd party driven projects utilizing it and even community wise (to some extent at least).

You might be interested in the following that I picked up on Telegram:

NEM will be live tomorrow in bitcoin.co.id, one of south east asia's biggest exchange by volume.

Quote
We just start supporting NEM in our exchange in the next 72 hours. Our NEM/BTC will be live with 0% Trading fee - bitcoin.co.id CEO.

thats why we wanted to wait before saying it.. things can change. either way.. just posting so people know. Smiley

This is really lovely news!

Cheers

good news only if supported from trades. look on bittrex and bter, zero volume. And exact that's the reason why cryptsy and other exchanges don't support NEM.......

Good news either way because people have another place to get into NEM.

Am I the only one who thinks the low volume is just normal ?

There is not much you can do with your XEM right now besides speculating and selling. So low volume tells me not many people are doing that and I can't say that bothers me.
Of course it also means noone is buying XEM but right now that's not all that suprising.

I've been unable to harvest for the last few days, not even a block with zero fees. Before everything was running smoothly. Everything is working. Could someone enlighten on what's going on? By the way I'm using delegated harvesting.

It happens.
What could be happening - can't confirm this though - is that more and more people start to harvest. The more people "compete" the less likely it becomes for everyone to harvest a block.
It's good for the network when more XEM are being used to harvest but of course it can be annoying for "smaller" harvesters.

How did you setup delegated harvesting ? Is it possible the machine got restarted and it isn't set to auto-harvest with your remote account ?

The Nem community is currently moving to https://muut.com/neweconomy/
The Ournem forum will be closing soon if everything goes well on Muut

Is everyone from telegram moving there too ?
Well i am completely against it  Undecided we should stick to ournem forum.

I'd be all for it if EVERYONE moved there. Just replacing the forum with the majority sticking to telegram anyway makes no sense.

It was Makoto's idea because the Forum is kinda dead.

I dont like their policies
