581  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What thread can earn newcomers merit on: December 17, 2023, 06:23:03 AM
...the next question is," how much have u earned", I was absolutely discourage as I remained mute till date.

There's a problem somewhere and that problem is that you do not know your purpose in this group. If I may ask, is you purpose here to earn merits? Secondly, people asking you how much merits you have earned do not also know their purpose here. Merits can be earned by crooks but that cannot be said about knowledge. If you look around, you will discover that there are some merit give away threads but there's no knowledge give away threads. In terms of earnings, there are three things you can earn;
  • First you earn knowledge
  • Your earned knowledge will help you make quality posts to earn merits
  • Your earned merits will enable you join signature campaign to earn bitcoin

Re: What thread can earn newcomers merit
Threads were something substantial is discussed and not a random thread like "I love Elon musk". There are also give away threads like that of fillippone if it's what you are asking about.
582  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't give attention to unsolicited DM with link to claim a reward. on: December 16, 2023, 10:10:56 PM
I have successfully deactivated my telegram group, although I have some plans to reactivate it. I have seen that I do not make money through telegram and I do not also offer services or promote goods with my telegram, and yet I am exposed to some scammer who go.on by sending unsolicited to messages to individuals. This is worse when you are a in a group where the admin is not strong and it seems that nothing is regulated. People send in messages, pretending to be admin or working with admin to Sam people.

With what OP presented, it is enough reasons for we to understand that nothing is free anywhere even in Free Town. If you are asked to claim any amount of money you didn't work for, know that it is a scam. No one gives random people that don't know money.
583  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: December 16, 2023, 09:51:34 PM
Manchester city is going down the table gradually

I am very happy that crystal palace was able to ensure that Manchester city lost 2 points in this week English premier League. When I look at the standing and see that Manchester city is going down the table, I am always happy. Liverpool is ahead of Manchester city with 3 points and if they win against Manchester United tomorrow, it will be 6 points difference and I am confident that Liverpool is not the type of club like Arsenal who will gap Manchester city with much points and still not win the league. I am a Manchester United fan but I do not mind that Liverpool should my club tomorrow in order to give them advantage of winning the English premier League title.

The best Manchester United can achieve this year is to quality for the champions league and we all are witnesses to Manchester United poor performance this season in the champions league. They wasted a slot of the English side. If this is the same performance they will offer next season, they should leave the spot to another English club.
584  Economy / Economics / Re: Food for thought on: December 16, 2023, 09:28:25 PM
For those working for government or an entity, try  to  start a small business and grow it gradually while still doing your 9am- 5pm job.

We might not feel the importance of it until we have been lay off from the job.
I have a question for those working for an entity or government, if you are being sacked today, what will be your faith? Will you still be financially strong, can your other sources of income keeps you going or you will be devastated by the loss of your job.

Someone doing a job of 9am to 5pm, will not have time to manage or supervise a business unless they have to quit their job for their business. This is a way to draw a balance. Starling a business is not an easy thing, business needs attention and more attention to be nurtured in the early time. I am not discouraging anyone from doing business but I want to tell us that business needs attention.

In this current economy, it's suicidal to have only one source of income.
If you must live well you must be ready to grab the bull by his horn am make life changing decisions by having more than one source of income.
Don't put your financial destiny in the hands of your bosses, you might not know the importance of having your own business till you have been sacked. think about it.
People who has a secured government job should be somehow stable and plan their lives while depending on pension for retirement. By this they won't be scared of being laid off at anytime and plan their lives very well.

I believe you are talking about men being discriminated, right? Smiley
You got me right. When it's against men, it's not discrimination.

Anyway, the subject has been debated after previous edition of the event. However, for avoiding having fillippone as the only one winner at this category (Mr. BitcoinTalk) we did not add it Smiley

Mister BitcoinTalk category was not added, as it would mean to have fillippone winner all the time (on all three places  Cheesy)
I expected to read, mister bitcointalk was removed because fillippone wins it all the time.

Nah, that won't work, we can't be sure until they pull their pants down, because looks could be deceiving you know? 😉
There is only one user I know of who has passed this test:

586  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: December 15, 2023, 10:19:57 PM
philipma1957 voted today and in the last category voting which is for Miss Bitcointalk , which I don't know if it has been discussed before. He said,
Miss Bitcointalk  if this is for a female it is a sexist reward.

why should a female get a reward for being a female and no male gets a reward for being a male. and If a guy decides he truly indetifies as a female is he allowed to win it.
In this spirit I wrote for JJG as I identify JJG as a girl. Grin

The question of why a female get a reward for being a female while there's no corresponding reward for the opposite gender demands an answer. Is there a kind of discrimination which has been overlooked for years? To the best of my knowledge, such an award of Miss goes in pair with Mr. Should Icopress consider including this in next year award or we live it this way which looks like a gender discrimination issue.
587  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Risks of the Exodus Exchange function ("CoinSwitch Scam") on: December 15, 2023, 07:35:47 PM
Sorry for the delay, due to abuse, we had to review new applications.

I am surprised to understand that there's abuse of translation. How does this happen? More than one user translates a thread?
Most common abuses are low quality translations due to Google translate abuse, where people "translating" it, are just copy-pasting the entire text into Google translate and post it 1:1 without any changes as a "translated article" for their local board.

Anyone who uses google translator or any other available translator to translate a thread verbatim ought to be banned according to the forum rules. The act of using a translator to re-write a quality thread that consumed knowledge and time to produce is fraudulent. If it is done with the intention of obtaining a fraudulent merit, I think the user deserves a tag from you (it could be a neutral tag). That is the best way to prevent abuse and maintain quality. If using a translator is what is needed, it wouldn't be a problem for you to use the translator to write your thread in different languages without the involvement of anyone.

- lazy
- greedy to obtain a fraudulent Merit
- lacking any language skills / are illiterates
(there are probably more reasons)
...
 Cheesy Cheesy
There are probably more reasons, but laziness and greed summarize it well. Once a user has the mindset of cheating, they automatically become mentally lazy to do things the right way.
588  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google is preparing for Spot Bitcoin ETF on: December 15, 2023, 07:09:48 PM
Google knows it's time to readjust because bitcoin is no longer a new player in the industry. Perhaps, they were waiting for adoption and ETF is the perfect signal of mass adoption they have been waiting for.

I can imagine how great they are at playing business strategies in taking advantage of every available opportunity.

Ahead of the Bitcoin halving, sources say they are making silent revisions. I paused for a moment and tried to dig out some news about Google banning advertising of all cryptocurrencies. It turns out that Google has banned crypto advertising several times, such as in 2018 and the moment is almost similar to the current situation when Bitcoin strengthened to reach its highest price.

I remember I have read in the past when google declared a total ban in cryptocurrency related projects, articles, advertisement and more. But I do not remember when they gradually ease off some bans. That is common with Bitcoin. Even some countries who initially issued a total ban on bitcoin in recent years have revisited their decisions.

One thing I noticed about google is their gross inconsistency and about their personal gain. They actually do not protect the people, if not they would have been paying their customers some dividends for using their data for commercial purposes for many years. The reason the war was severe was because they didn't understand the essence of bitcoin decentralisation. They thought it would interfere in their business. Now that the unbiased purpose of bitcoin and cryptocurrency is gradually sinking into the society, there's need for readjustment.
589  Economy / Reputation / Re: Theymos reputation thread on: December 15, 2023, 06:54:43 PM
  • Casinos are not notorious bad players like mixers. The reason they are prohibited from promoting in some places is just ethics and believes

theymos decision to ban mixers was forced due to numerous investigations and the seizure of mixers by the authorities, and all this is to protect the forum. As both he and the forum are under US jurisdiction, if the US bans crypto casinos, it will be reflected on this forum as well. Looking at what is happening, it is not an impossible scenario at all.

I understand too well that the actions of theymos is geared towards protecting the forum as he has said so many times about the forum domain being hosted in US and as well the activities of this forum is subjected to the decisions of the US government. I knew that a day like this will come when chipmixer website was seized and its activities were highly linked to the forum for advertisement. The negative activities of any mixer directly impacts the US government in the case of money laundering, sales and purchases of arms and more. But the activities of casinos doesn't impact the government much as the common negative effect is gambling addiction which is somehow personal to the citizens.

Gambling is already quite dominant on this forum and such a trend continues because it seems that this industry has best adapted and implemented crypto-currencies. Certainly, I can't shake the impression that gambling and all discussions about it maintain the "popularity" of this forum to a considerable extent.

Gambling industry is that one industry that embraced cryptocurrency wholeheartedly by making cryptocurrency as a means of payment and means of gambling. This did not make gambling more popular but also increased the adoption of cryptocurrency. It will be difficult to ruin the relationship between casinos and cryptocurrency.
590  Economy / Services / Re: @Hugeblack 🌟 Signature Design -▌Since 2017 ▌- on: December 13, 2023, 06:17:14 AM
There was COVID-19, my main job, studying for a master’s degree, chipmixer signature (50 posts,) merit source, gym and personal details so I stopped.
I see, that was much on, and knowing too well that design demands precision which is time consuming to achieve. I also did not know you promoted chipmixer. From when I joined the forum till date I have always known you as a Bestchange promoter. Maybe, by Jan you will return to the green family.

...and people better than me disappeared, such as Untold, Izanagi Narukami, Roslinpl, Zpectrum, Anyobsss.
Most of you may not have heard of these names, but the forum was completely different.
Never heard of these names and for them to disappear means there was a decline in signature and avatar design demand.

I remember that I used to design two signatures a week on average, and sometimes 3 in one day.

This is tedious. Presently, designers could go two weeks without anything to design. There was a signature campaign boom then, no doubts.

Back  Smiley 7 years of experience.
I stopped providing the service for about 3 years but it is time to bring it back.
Wow! For more than my 2 years in this forum, I have never known that hugeblack is a designer. Great to see nice designs in OP.
Hope 3 years out of service wouldn't retard your performance.
I wish you the best and will recommend your services.
592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google is preparing for Spot Bitcoin ETF on: December 12, 2023, 07:09:53 PM
Google is a big company, if they continue to persist with the old attitude towards Bitcoin, then in my opinion they are not worthy of being a big company because the progress of the crypto industry will continue to develop.
Not only that, Google's change in attitude towards crypto-related ads subtly shows that the negative fears associated with Bitcoin are not fundamental.

Bitcoin spot ETFs are desired by many large companies such as BlackRock and other large companies because there are benefits behind their application. Google is only now revising its advertising rules and considering a Bitcoin spot ETF.
Bitcoin continues to rise.

Other sources about Google revising advertising rules: bitcoinmagazine
I do not actually understand google and some of their advertisement policies against cryptocurrency. I remember that I have downloaded some scam apps from play store and got scammed. Why won't google scrutinize such projects and determine that they are scam if they be such strict.

Google knows it's time to readjust because bitcoin is no longer a new player in the industry. Perhaps, they were waiting for adoption and ETF is the perfect signal of mass adoption they have been waiting for.
593  Economy / Speculation / Re: So I guess we sell at $48626 ? on: December 12, 2023, 06:42:02 PM

Bitcoin price has not fallen much yet but people are panicking too much, i do not know why  Huh
Panic is something that will exist in a person, but in the case of this bitcoin investment, shouldn't they have learned from their previous experiences? unless they are new investors who start investing in bitcoin, panic is a natural thing if they feel that.

Now many people are starting to speculate and predict where the next bitcoin price will go, and that is actually legitimate, but don't let it affect us. When the price moves towards 20k, 30k and now has reached 40k it is good news. Even if we follow some time ago, some predicted that the price of bitcoin would decline to 10k, but that did not happen.
There's one thing with history;
But the major thing is the people that make the history. We cannot successfully take out FUD and FOMO from bitcoin and cryptocurrency investment. Even if everyone has mastered the behaviour of bitcoin, the uncertainty will still be there. For instance, people are panicking that Bitcoin will drop below 40k. It is the same group of people that will jump in when bitcoin makes a new ATH, they will join not to miss $100k and in the end bitcoin will dump on them.
We all are victims in different dimensions. Atleast I have seen bitcoin in the region of $15k this year. What stopped me from taking $15k worth of loan to invest in bitcoin. Today I would have paid off the loan and will still be 100% richer. The industry is dynamic, unpredictable and confusing and that's why I don't blame people in any kind of decision they want to make.

Hello, @1miau, if you don’t mind I will like to translate this topic to my local board (Naija local board) pidgin, thanks.
Hello  Smiley

Sorry for the delay, due to abuse, we had to review new applications.

I am surprised to understand that there's abuse of translation. How does this happen? More than one user translates a thread?

Please make sure to provide a quality translation, of course.
Quality is the key. The translated version of a quality post should remain quality. Besides, it's same post, the only difference is the language.

595  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Nobody is above the law on: December 12, 2023, 05:34:43 PM
Sooo? Frankly, I did not understand the purpose of this topic, but if you are a good member and publish high-quality topics, you may be given a second chance, such as banning signatures for a year or two. It is true that Nobody is above the law but the more your intentions was good and your posts are useful, the less the punishment will be.
I also do not understand the purpose of the post. But from your comment I did understand the area the Op is coming from. But as you said, good and quality posters have greater chances to second chance than an unestablished random newbie.
Maybe OP is saying because of the recent activities of Ratimov or something like that...
596  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Guide] Things to keep in mind Before Bull Run. on: December 12, 2023, 04:59:16 PM
DYOR (Do Your Own Research):
Keep this tip in mind that information and knowledge is the power in the world of cryptocurrency. Before the bull run starts you have to give some time to the project or coin you are going to invest in or you’re interested in. If want to get good profit from any specific token, coin check their social media handles like is that particular project is working on their ecosystem or not and are they bringing good updates to make this project well hyped or not. If the use-case of particular project is good then go for it and invest some amount that you can easily bear. Some more thing while doing DYOR you have to understand their technology, team, and community support. The investor with well-information can make better sound decisions during times of market getting hyped.
The concept of DYOR that you explained in this your article has a bigger connection with altcoins and shitcoins investment and has little or no connections with bitcoin investment. We can all agree that there is no research needed on bitcoin investment. All that is needed is good timing of the market and you are good to go

Diversification:
Well, hehe seems like I covered some of this part in risk management hmm that’s fine.  If you are going to put your big capital on a single promising cryptocurrency, I would say that’s not good decision, for that diversification helps to reduce your investment risk. Spread your net investments across different projects to reduce the impact of any single coin's poor performance in your portfolio. Always keep in mind that BitcoinBTC should be your first priority in Bull run.
Diversification is fine and what you explained above is diversification of portfolio and not that of investment. There is a question of who is wiser between he who invest all in BTC and he who has 50% of BTC and spread the rest 50% among altcoins.

Stay Tuned:
Try your best to stay tuned about the market trends and news Because news can bring ups and dips in the market.
Very necessary... Simply be informed. One positive fundamental can make you rich and one negative of it can crash you.
597  Economy / Reputation / Re: Theymos reputation thread on: December 12, 2023, 04:28:31 PM
Casinos cannot be banned. Yea, this is because gambling has been in existence before this forum and bitcoin was created. But in the other hand, there is a mixer because there is Bitcoin.

I believe he meant gambling casinos advertising on the forum. No one could have predicted the events that have happened in the last couple of months. To be clear, signature campaigns can be banned altogether, that includes casinos, and other platforms advertising here. The forum doesn’t have control over what happens outside the bitcointalk community, if certain services are banned here, they can run their business and promotions elsewhere.
Yea, I understood the Op and yourself inclusive. Theymos has the right to stop any project from promoting here including casinos, or in the worse scenario ban signature campaign totally. But then, I believe very much that theymos will not ban casino because;
  • Casinos are highly regulated and licensed unlike mixers
  • Casinos are not notorious bad players like mixers. The reason they are prohibited from promoting in some places is just ethics and believes
  • Finally, before theymos banned mixers, there was a sign (when he instructed the staff members not to promote mixers). As of casinos, there's no such sign yet.
598  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: If you had $500, which coins would you choose to buy on: December 12, 2023, 03:39:55 PM
Op, now that you only received 1 vote for your project shilling, what are you gonna do? Create another poll? You had a smart way of shilling and that would have worked if those tokens are atleast known. But those tokens are totally strange to many of us. And that is why you are getting suggestions, not relating to the poll.

I'd long ethereum with 2x leverage.

I have suspicions about coins you mentioned in poll, you are likely promoting them and since your account is new it gives further red alert.

Do you mean buying ETH with X2 leverage? Please why would you do that, why not on spot?
599  Economy / Economics / Re: We need higher wages off course but goverment need to do one thing on: December 12, 2023, 12:26:01 PM
Op, your idea will play fine and it's what the government can do, but there's an extent to which they can do it. Meanwhile, some trade and prices of goods are set internationally. So, since there's no government that is totally independent and unreliable to other governments, your idea will not work. Even talking about internally, the discrepancy between public and private sector will not allow your proposal work hence the private sector pays tax.

The only way the government can intervene is to subside the price of goods for her citizens.

It sucks to see that the price of food items and everything is the country is increasing everyday, but the minimum wage is just stagnant. People that were able to live comfortable before are now living a low standard of live because their income can no longer buy their monthly needs and to take care of the family. The average and poor ones are really suffering because the economy of the country is getting worse and nothing the government can do to help the situation of the citizens.

The government of different countries behave similarly. But the difference is that while some government has people that think for their country and make laws to better the economy for the sake of the citizens, your own country has nobody strategizing for it.
600  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: KYC methods which make identity theft more difficult - are they possible? on: December 12, 2023, 12:10:26 PM
There are some solutions that Apple is trying to provide, and I hope that countries will push them, which is establishing a government company that verifies your data and then sends confirmation to these third parties that you are the user in question for a small fee. In this way, you will ensure that your data does not leave one party and that this party can be held legally accountable if the data is leaked, but I do not think that such government agencies exist.

What apple is trying to implement will not eliminate totally the risks associated with KYC, especially data leakage. But then, their proposed solution will only centralize the data in one central server of the government thereby having only one point of failure. This obviously has some advantages and disadvantages.

The advantage will be the legal implications of it, which will try to protect the right of the person who is completing KYC.
While the disadvantage will be risk of attack. Since there's only one central point of KYC, hackers and criminals will channel all their energy to that point and who knows, they can hit the jackpot.
