581  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: January 03, 2017, 12:35:13 PM
Once again Bangladesh top order collapse like house of cards . Can't believe they lost 4 wickets in the powerplay itself .Except Soumya Sarkar all the remaining played very poor shots to get out and now everything is in the hands of Mahmudullah  and Shakib , we know what they both are capable of . I am expecting atleast 140-150+ runs otherwise this will be an one-sided match .
Dont be really surprised with the collapse they are yet to play a really competitive match outside the subcontinent and i really predicted New Zealand will win the match quite easily and white wash the series Cheesy
This match is going to be competitive. I think it was the pitch that made it difficult to bat. NZ lost 3 wickets in quick succession as well. After starting well wrt to run rate required. NZ have slowed down and if Bangladesh manage to get a couple of wickets now, it could become really interesting.

Nope. It was not competitive at all. New Zealand have thumped Bangladesh, winning by 6 wickets and with 2 overs to spare.
Strong performance by Kane Williamson, scoring more than half the runs of New Zealand.

South Africa have a slight edge against Sri Lanka after day 1, finishing at 297/6. If they can add another 100+ runs, they will be able to put pressure on Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka must get de Kock early to have a chance in this test match.
583  Economy / Economics / Re: Guy loses 240-600 BTC trying to short on: January 02, 2017, 05:32:11 PM
Why would anyone want to short when it is obvious that it is going to up from the beginning of the year? Roll Eyes
That is a no brainer because that's what it does every year then it goes down in February or mid-month here after.
Come on now, some people especially when trading volume so high should use their brains. Roll Eyes

That pattern will die as soon as enough people notice it.
People will start buying in December and sell it in January to take advantage of the price increase.
When that happens, the price will start falling in January.
584  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will touch 1200$ in January 2017 on: January 02, 2017, 05:28:04 PM
I remember the last time the prices were this high. It was the same time of year about 3 years ago I think. I expect the price to come back down but hopefully it won't drop into the $200's again like last time. I could see it drop to the $500 to $600 range but nobody knows.

Last time around, we had an extremely rapid rise in prices. The price increased by 10x in a matter of a couple of months. That isn't the case now.
The run up can be termed rapid in terms of what other assets are used to; For Bitcoin this is gradual increase.
585  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: December 31, 2016, 07:41:25 AM
Watching Bangladesh vs New Zealand match. After a great opening partnership of 102 runs by Bangladesh, they are now consistently losing wickets. After 38 overs BAN 177/6
Now what i hate the fact is Bangladesh start playing a good cricket in the beginning of a match but can't continue their performance till the end.

Edit:  Grin another wicket down while i posts this update. 179/7 now.
Bangladesh scored just 236 runs with the loss of 9 wickets. Yes after the great start they last back to back wickets. New Zealand started very badly they lost 1 wicket and 1 retd early but after this, they are playing well. Now NZ scored 115/1. They need 118 runs from 28 overs. I think NZ may win this match easily.

New Zealand have crushed Bangladesh by 8 wickets and 50 balls to spare. Bangladesh will be disappointed with the outcome of this series. They would have wanted to compete better against New Zealand, even if they ended up losing the series.
It would have been nice if Kane Williamson completed his century in this match, though.
586  Economy / Speculation / Re: [POLL] Dow 20,000 vs Bitcoin $1,000 on: December 31, 2016, 07:37:43 AM
The Dow is very close to 20,000 and might very well hit it before Bitcoin reaches $1,000. But one thing I am sure, Bitcoin will reach 2,000 years before Dow reaches 40,000.
587  Economy / Economics / Re: Jim Rickards: Is now the right time to invest in gold? on: December 31, 2016, 07:35:00 AM
...

Jim Rickards is a smart man who has written a few books in recent years re gold and what The Elite may be up to.  He suggests that anyone with savings devote up to 10% to owning physical gold.

Re "the right time" to buy gold, my view is that almost NO ONE can predict the future with any accuracy, so anytime is a good time to buy some gold.  Buy some gold.  There is no need (in fact unwise) to be at or go All Inn (buying or holding only gold), one can purchase gold in small amounts through time.

Gold and Bitcoin are two smart and diverse ways to hold some wealth.

Physical assets like real estate would retain their worth (and appreciate in fiat terms) if the currency system collapses.
If we fear a fiat meltdown, we should reduce the contribution of debt in our portfolio.
588  Economy / Economics / Re: Next generation money on: December 30, 2016, 12:13:24 PM
For what everyone want, bitcoin is working best in that way and one day we will see that bitcoin is taking over the world. The next generation has already started and bitcoin is the money for that generation. I can see all the things which will be beneficial for the next generation and will complete all the requirements of that generation.

Bitcoin would be the option for the upcoming generation people. Already most of the countries making their country as digital transaction country. So i hope bitcoin will be centralized money in next 10 years in most of the countries.
in fact the new generation is interested in online business as well as shopping therefore bitcoin is the best option for such people they will use bitcoin for shopping and trading purposes without converting it in to fiat currency.

I would hate to see a generation being classified as interested in "shopping". We are consumerist, no doubt, but not any more than the previous generations. Online businesses have seen strong growth and if they adopt Bitcoin, we could see its usage explode.
589  Economy / Speculation / Re: Manipulation finished. Bubble popping. on: December 30, 2016, 12:09:14 PM
We have a small correction and people think it is a bubble popping?
Whether the price was manipulated or not, there are enough believers in Bitcoin's potential. We will have strong support at $890-$900, if at all Bitcoin retreats to those levels.
590  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: December 30, 2016, 12:02:29 PM
Pakistan are in deep trouble currently at 5/91 and still trail by 91 runs. Ali once again is the only Pakistan batsman with standing the pressure from the Australian bowlers. If Australia can get Ali out soon I think it will end very quickly for Pakistan and Australia will win most likely without batting again.

Australia have done a good job just like India vs England last test match, Australia batted good and gave a decent score for Pakistan to chase for 2nd innings to defend the match, in that process they lost 6 wickets for 113 runs, still 30 overs are left and they have to score more 68 , I think this match is mostly Australia is going to win
True , very similar to 5th day Final test of England v India and now Aussies need just 1 more wicket to win this match . Pakistan took this way too easily and they gave away too many runs in the morning . The only way Pakistan can still end this as draw is to score more than 60-70 runs which is nearly impossible .

Australia have won the test match, even after rain interrupt they aware able to win this test match, as as usual Pakistan choked and collapsed , Starc is their main key bowler, who have always given them break through.

Sensational win by Australia. They won this match after Pakistan declared in their first innings.
It was a rain interrupted, short match and Australia had enough time to overhaul Pakistan's score and bowl them out in the second innings.
591  Economy / Speculation / Re: New ATH!!! on: December 28, 2016, 03:16:46 AM
Huobi is almost @ $1000. This is a psychological barrier for a lot of people and I wonder if it will crash down to 900s back fast or if it will still go up.

Price is up over $950 at most exchanges. Looks like the breakout over $930 is finally happening.
It is only a matter of time before $1000 is crossed across exchanges.
592  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: December 28, 2016, 03:15:10 AM
As per now, Pakistan is in safe position Azar Ali century makes Pak better in this match. Asad Shafiq is giving good support to him. i think if this pair make 100 more run partnership this match will become more interesting. I hope pak will score more than 400 runs in 1st innings let's see.
I do not find any safe situation for this visitor in test matches in Australia. Yes, Australia is outplaying Pakistan in all departments so far, yet Pakistan is showing some big resistance through their batting.

Regardless of loss of around 80 overs in first two days of the play, still I believe Australia will force a result in this match for their favor.
Day 2 stumps. In this game, rain is playing. Pakistan 310 runs 6 wickets down. I am not sure that this game will finish in remaining 3 days. So maybe it is going to end with a draw.

South Africa vs. Sri Lanka, After good start SA lost back to back wickets and made just 286 runs in 1st innings. SL started his batting they lost 3 wickets just for 37 runs. SA have a chance to win this game.
This isn't what bettors and cricket fans expected to see . Pakistan vs Australia was meant to be interesting but unfortunately Rain spoiled everything but the interesting thing is Directbet odds for draw is @1.25 , I was expecting it to be 1.1 or less as only three days remaining.

It will most likely end in a draw unless Pakistan want to make a game out of it and just declare at the start of today and put Australia into bat and see what happens. Because it does look like it may rain again today as it is overcast again and there was some light rain not long ago where I live in Melbourne. It will be interesting to see what happens in this test match as the day goes on.

Pakistan have managed a mammoth 443, thanks to Azhar's 205. This match looks destined for a draw. Pakistani bowlers have started well against Australia, but haven't been lucky. If I get odds of 1.25 for a draw, I will take it.
593  Economy / Economics / Re: Banning Usury will promote cryptocurrencies on: December 25, 2016, 04:20:29 AM
You can not ban usury, but with bitcoin you can "ban" fractional reserve, and that's MUCH MORE important

You really cannot "ban" fractional reserve.
If banks/companies which are trusted start accepting bitcoins, people would be ready to deposit. A portion of this can be lent out by the companies. Voila - you have fractional reserves.
594  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the current rally really that crazy? on: December 25, 2016, 04:15:23 AM
The current rally doesn't look huge when you plot it on the log scale, but it is unlikely we will return to the hay days of the past.
Bitcoin is more widely distributed now and there will be a lot more people who are ready to book profits when it rises.
595  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: December 25, 2016, 04:04:18 AM
The boxing day test match between Australia and Pakistan is set to begin. Australia managed to survive a scare from Pakistan last match, when Pakistan almost managed to chase down a target of 490. This match is at the MCG and is a traditional day match. I would bet on Australia winning this one as well.
596  Economy / Economics / Re: How a cashless society could kill Bitcoin. on: December 19, 2016, 09:52:21 AM
A cashless society would lead to cryptocurrencies flourishing, in the normal course.
If the government manages to wipe out cash, they would make Bitcoin their next target. And whether Bitcoin can survive that is a different question.
597  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: December 19, 2016, 09:49:08 AM
England would have not dreamed that they would have to bat to save the match, after posting a strong 477 in the first innings. India have built a substantial lead and will look to declare and make England bat an hour on the fourth day. The pitch is still very good for batting and if England can withstand the pressure, they can still save this match.
598  Economy / Economics / Re: Long term OIL on: December 19, 2016, 08:33:12 AM
The price of oil could recover by 2017 but never expect for a price we reached during 2012 to 2014 but the decisions of OPEC countries would determine the fate of oil and its price. They did not reduce the production when the price was bombing and so is the reason it failed to recover till this time.

During the big fall in prices, OPEC did not reach an agreement on cutting production because it would benefit American shale oil producers. At that point, Saudi Arabia wanted to focus on market share. Things have changed now and OPEC has agreed to restrict production. Whether members will stick to the plan is a different question altogether.
599  Economy / Speculation / Re: is it time to start seriously talking about a $5000 BTC on: December 19, 2016, 08:31:15 AM
5000 is realistic if really _everything_ works well in the next years.

That means: if we manage to deal with the blockchain size problem (Segwit?) without a hard fork or another kind of community split, if there is more acceptance for online payments and remittances, if there is not too much volatility (speculator attacks, exchange dramas etc.), if there is no real competitor (there are some interesting alternative blockchains) and if there is not too much hostility from the politic sphere. It should also be noted that a open, liberal/libertarian dominating ideology favours Bitcoin's acceptance as an international currency, and the US particularly have moved in the opposite direction, unfortunately.

Myself I think we will hover some time more around $500-1000, with perhaps an occasional peak near the old ATH, but I think only when the blockchain/block size problem is resolved we can think of >1200$ prices.

Not years. Next year. Mark my words.

I would be pleasantly surprised if this does happen. In any case, I plan to retain a major portion of my bitcoin holdings till the next halving.
I guess we should be over $5000 at that point. 6x return over ~4 years is not bad at all.  Smiley
600  Economy / Speculation / Re: 1000+ is anytime now on: December 18, 2016, 12:18:21 PM
You are saying it took around 15 days last time till it has risen up to $1000 but I guess it is already more than 15 days and still no signs of even $800. It is different this time. Mining is difficult and winter is not the best time, because the electricity is becoming more expensive. My guess is that it is going to stabilise soon.

its over 800 everywhere.
India
okcoin
local bitcoins
Canada.

There may be differences across individual exchanges. In places like India, there might be higher demand for bitcoins and therefore higher prices. But most websites have an index, which give you a volume-weighted average price of Bitcoin. And that is hovering around $790 now. I don't think we will be below $800 for long.
