581  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [BITLC] Change of payment scheme for Bitlc.net (Previously bitcoins.lc) on: February 07, 2012, 10:55:58 PM
We will NOT stick with proportional due to a lot pressure from non-hoppers and regular 24/7 mining users have requested that we do actually start using something else.

Shame.  P2pool is looking better by the day.

How much testing is necessary?

Dunno mate.   I assume they just want to get it right.  Not sure we should be having a go at them for that.

Goddamn...apparently, their assembly ninja is slow as fuck.

I believe it's referred to as "testing".   It's usually a good idea before you send out a product.

Got your order in yet?  You must have as you're so concerned about delivery Smiley

Great, thanks!

Is anyone able to suggest a fast USB drive suitable for this?

Usenet.

That is all Smiley

They've given me more cause for doubt, but I'm also still hopeful that they're just slow at production and reluctant to answer questions.  Time will tell.

WP

I imagine they've learned their lesson with regards to giving out information that may change in the future, and cause geekdom itself to implode on this forum.  Smart move Smiley

Is solidCoin the scam I though BitCoin was?

Short answer... yes.

Not exactly an in depth answer, but it's late, and I'm tired Smiley

I already have cards mining, and when the Bitforce box arrives I'll just be selling the cards and replacing them, so I'm not missing out on anything.

You don't have as many cards mining as you would otherwise.

I have exactly as much hashing power as I would have otherwise.   If I wasn't replacing my cards with one of these, I wouldn't have bought any more cards.

Right now I have 800mh give or take.    When the BF arrives I'll sell my cards and I'll have 800mh.  If I didn't pre-order a BF, I'd still have 800mh.

You can argue that I'm losing interest on that $600 if you like, I won't argue with you there Smiley   Thankfully I don't care.
590  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1GH/s, 20w, $700 (was $500) — Butterflylabs, is it for real? (Part 2) on: February 02, 2012, 11:06:46 PM
I am too lazy at the moment, but someone should do the exact math on how much return on investment has been sacrificed by a pre-order customer.  Ostensibly they could have taken the $600 bucks and purchased actually available products and earned a decent return by now.

Whats the most hashing power someone can aquire for $600 bucks?

I will start....
Used mobo/CPU combo:  $100
RAM:  $20
Linux run from USB:  $10
decent PSU:  $80
Used 5970:  $325-350
Used 5770: $65

So, they could have aquired 900 MH/s, and given the low difficulty during December, I figure they could have mined 22 BTC per month.  That is 88 BTC over the time since pre-orders began.

That is one HELL of an opportunity cost.

I already have cards mining, and when the Bitforce box arrives I'll just be selling the cards and replacing them, so I'm not missing out on anything.  I imagine some are buying these to add on to their existing equipment though, so yeah I guess they're missing out.   They've always had the option to cancel for a refund and buy something else though, so you know, diddums Smiley

There has been no useful content in any of your 18 posts in any threads here since you joined

Then why are you here, stepping in ultra-late in the game to white knight it over BFL and sonny?

Seriously guy, you bring nothing to the table that wasn't mentioned fifty times in the previous 130 pages of fucktardery. You are as bad as goat and I...worse maybe, with that high horse you are on.

I'm a pretty mellow guy in real life, and I generally practice good forum etiquette in other communities I'm a part of.   I've been lurking here a long time and have finally created this account to stick it to utter retards such as yourself who find it so hilarious to hang around in threads such as this, offering absolutely zero useful input and just generally being a disgusting, sorry excuse for a human being.

Well fuck you.  You can keep trolling this thread all you like, but now you're also going to have to put up with me trolling you for the foreseeable future, or at least until you grow a brain and start acting like a normal member of society.   Lets see how you like a taste of your own medicine.
593  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1GH/s, 20w, $700 (was $500) — Butterflylabs, is it for real? (Part 2) on: February 02, 2012, 08:50:36 PM
I've read it all.   I know the current state of things, as I also keep in contact with BFL.   What goes on this thread is 1 part actual information, 2 parts technical discussion of FPGA technology, and 7 parts trolling from Randy, DeathandTaxes, Goat, Kano and couple of others.
Why is it everyone who's been in contact with BFL never posts any "actual information"? So if you actually ordered one, when is it due to ship?

Plenty of info has been posted from people who have spoken to BFL.  All the pictures of the boards for example.    If I had an exact ship date, I'd tell you, but I don't.   This week or the next as far as I know.   I'm not about to explode if I don't have an exact ship date so I'm not too worried, as long as I get it sometime in Feb I'll be happy.
So was that what Sonny said?

If you have actually read this thread you will see that there are many people who are interested in these ... not just those willing to risk $600 on something that is currently about 2 months past due and no built final prototype version of it even exists (only the previous one from a while back that had to be redesigned due to the 400% missed guess at the power usage)

So then either wait for people to recieve them, then make your decision based on that, or email the company yourself and ask whatever questions you have!   It's really not that hard.
Yeah same as a few others have already said ...
I take that to mean that it's not good news, that's the usual reason for people now wanting to post information they already know for others to read.

Believe what you want, I couldn't care less.

All the pictures of the boards for example.

You know...the ones that are off their website...

Yes, NOW they're on their website.  When they were emailed out and posted here, they weren't yet.   Of course you already knew that.

596  Other / Meta / Re: 1-post locked threads on: February 02, 2012, 04:35:06 AM
So the SolidCoin folks have been creating 1-post locked threads announcing stuff.

Putting aside how you feel about SolidCoin, I wonder what other people think about that practice in general.  It seems to me to go against the purpose of "Forums" -- seems to me the whole point is discussion.  If you don't want discussion, then buy an ad or publish information on your website.

Seems to me locking threads should be a last resort instead of "I'll just lock every thread I make to keep out the trolls."

I'm going to lock this thread now because I think some people will disagree with me.
(KIDDING, JUST KIDDING)

Seems to me that the amount of bitching CoinHunter does about this forum in general that it's a little ironic that he should use it to promote "his" software.  And no, he shouldn't be allowed to in my opinion.

OK the noob needs some help ...
Firstly, this: Smiley is called a smiley.
I'll explain why I used it in my windows xp post since you still haven't worked that out yet.
They are often posted when people are joking about something.
Let me know if you need that term (joking) explained ...

Next lesson: when your a noob and you've posted 11 posts of no useful content and calling people trolls and dicks you really need to learn to chill and pretend you actually aren't a complete noob with some strange complex.

Next: I don't care about calling me a troll in the other thread and saying above that I never get anything right - yeah so what ... just hope you don't ever need to ask me anything coz I certainly wont be replying ... saving you from being trolled by me or given false information - aren't I nice Smiley

... but calling D&T a troll and a dick - lol - seriously? - you've posted nothing but useless crap here at bitcointalk so far - that's the funniest thing I've read all day Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
(yes anyone can go see a single list of every post you've posted so far with 2 clicks)

Oh and lastly, don't forget to reply to this so you can have the last word - I'm sure that's important for you and I'll let you have the last word - as I said above about replying ...

...

That's OK.  You've given out so much crappy advice in this thread so far I very rarely read your posts anymore.  Thanks for your concern anyway (and your crappy psychology attempt at the end there isn't going to get me to shut up, but good (not really) effort anyway).

Also, if you think this thread is 59 pages long, you missed the the lion's share of it.

Try to keep up big man, I said this thread, not this thread plus the other thread.

7 parts trolling from Randy, DeathandTaxes, Goat, Kano and couple of others.

Bahahaha...one of the most helpful, informed, and intelligent participants on this entire forum is branded a troll by some poon with 10 posts.

Pretty clear to see.  Just filter by his posts in this thread, and hey presto.

Agreed, he's usually pretty helpful elsewhere in the forum.  Just not here unfortunately.

Not quite as much of a dick as you, granted, but still.

Yes, Vista sucked, but Windows 7 is just as stable as XP and perfectly usable as an everyday OS...
There, without knowing what you just said, you said it.
Windows is a decent everyday OS.
Serious bitcoin mining, however, is much simpler, easier, and less resource-intensive using a leaner, task-oriented OS like your favourite Linux flavor.

What good do automatic updates, insane amounts of background housekeeping stuff, the indexing service, or wide open NETBIOS ports do you for bitcoin mining purposes?
How suitable for mining are all those default Power Management options? How useful are System Restore and Shadow Files?
For all those useless (from mining POV) features you don't even get a functional Remote Desktop server...
...and worst of all, you have to dole out money for the doubtful pleasure of installing Windows on your mining rig.
Insanity.

Well sure, I agree that if you have a solo box that you've dedicated just to mining, then stick one of the million iterations of Linux on it.   Personally though, I have one PC (and some laptops) in my place, and that PC is used for several things.  It's my download box, it's my media server and it's my mining box.  I have Windows 7 on it because it works for all three (Linux probably would as well, but I know Windows inside out so until I have a lot of free time to learn Linux inside out, I'll be sticking with it)

Anyway, whatever, cgminer... carry on !
