581  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / PrimeCoin; What's the deal? on: July 19, 2013, 11:10:26 AM
So I've been seeing a lot of interest in PrimeCoin, and some mention of scientific work being done using primecoin, but I don't get it.  What's PrimeCoin doing for the scientific community?  The whitepaper says it's not finding new primes because they are too big to work on.  Can someone EILI5?

wow.......just wish I knew Chinese....lol cool link!

Chrome knows chinese (kinda) and can translate for you.  Not a perfect translation but a lot of the points come across.

But hey, I can autograph them.  Wink

YES YES YES YES YES YES!!! Can I have mine autographed? :-)

Seconded.
584  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] Ukyo.Loan - Paying 0.05% daily. on: July 19, 2013, 08:39:41 AM
It sounds more profitable than other bonds or stocks like AM etc.
How many shares are you going to issue?when?

How come it become more profitable than AM? get AM price multiply by 0.0005 and x 7 days, AM dividend still higher.

I don't know about AM, but to compare you have to multiply by 1.0005^7 (assuming reinvestment of dividends) for maximum profitability.  That's .35% in a week.  In a year that's 20% returns.

FlipPro;

I sent an email two days ago through the support email on the website and never got a response.  Can I get some customer support please?  Unresponsive customer support makes me think maybe this isn't the best place to park my money.  Willing customers don't wait around forever to have their questions answered.  Eventually they look for another vendor.
586  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group buy] Bitfury ASIC chip and TechnoBit assembly service 2900 chips left on: July 18, 2013, 09:09:35 PM
What is going on with this buy. It looks like it stopped...
Obviously there is no demand Smiley

Yea I think many people are already invested in KnCMiner and Avalon chips ATM.
587  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: July 16, 2013, 06:51:59 PM
@Bicknellski... if you meant me... my interest lies in chosing the best product because i have chips i want to be built into a miner. And im not sure yet if i should chose burnin or marto74's(Klondike) offer. Thats why i want to know the performance of both designs. I see that Klondikes has to fight the noise first to get real results. Im not sure yet but i think overclocking seems to be a bit easier with burnin's design. No soldering for overclocking or overvolting. But im not sure yet, because my question wasnt answered yet.
On the other hand i think the development in another design group is interesting to another designer too. So he can compare and maybe see problems.
Nothing bad intended... Smiley

The one thing I don't like about the bitburner is that if one chip goes, the entire bank of 10 stops hashing.  That's a killer right there.  With BKKCoins, dead chips don't always mean the rest stop hashing.
588  Economy / Securities / Re: [Bit Funder] [btcquick] [Rising profits] on: July 16, 2013, 06:48:05 PM
Are we going to see any dividends today?  16th looks like the usual payout day. Smiley
589  Economy / Securities / Re: [Bit Funder] [btcquick] [Rising profits] on: July 16, 2013, 02:25:22 AM
Yeah, after level 2, coinbase is instant and up to 50 BTC.
You are right that they don't accept credit cards, but using credit card to invest in BTC might not be smart unless you have a plan other than waiting for BTC prices to go up. Using the funds in my bank account is easy enough, heck, you can even deposit the money a day or two later since it is a EFT (because ACH is so slow).

As for the TAT.VIRTUALMINE, I bought it after it devalued so much to a point (that I believe/calculated) that it is undervalued, so I jumped on it. Of course there is a risk, however...

Can we cut the talk about TAT.VIRTUALMINE?  The reason I'm here is because I don't WANT to invest in mining shares.  Miners are my competition.  I want to invest in real world companies doing something besides mining.  Also, this thread is about Btcquick, not some other share you've invested in.

If you want to talk about TAT.VIRTUALMINE, could you please start your own thread?

As for btcquick credit card discussion; not everyone is looking to INVEST in bitcoin.  If you can only buy something with bitcoin, and you want it now, you can use a credit card to buy bitcoin and then purchase it.  That way you are paying for something with your credit card indirectly.  I like that btcquick offers this option to people.
590  Economy / Securities / Re: [Bit Funder] [btcquick] [Rising profits] on: July 15, 2013, 12:46:23 PM
even though a surge due to the price drop, it still means they gain new customers and most likely they will be returning since they have purchased a membership...

as for my "fresh" acct, i actually created it a week or so back when BitFunder had login troubles that kept kicking us to the front page after correct user/pass/otpauth...

full disclosure, I have stock in TAT.VIRTUALMINE and have gotten the dividends. I just wanted to share with others what I discovered...

Still, moreover, check out the competition COINBASE, that's how I will be getting my coins from now on with it's INSTANT, truly instant, BTCs, no waiting after you are level 2 user! yay

I use coinbase as well, but they don't allow credit cards, so btcquick has something that coinbase doesn't offer.
591  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Liquid Synergy Designs Inc. -ASIC mining hardware on: July 13, 2013, 07:39:04 PM
Where are you gauging interest for the case?  Do you have a price range?

well I left because
- namecoin merged mining does not work at all for me although it is said it should work
- slush's score system is poor because when a block is found really quickly many ppl get so little of it because of the scoring system

My eruptor actually gets a pretty good number of shares on quick blocks, but my GPUs don't.  Not sure if it has anything to do with it.

My workers that I shut down last night due to diff increase are still reporting a hash speed because they have shares in this block.  Very disconcerting.

with a score of 0!
but why would u shut them down? cpu miners?

No, older GPUs.  Only getting 200 MH/s on them, costing 200 W for the whole machine to be up.  Now only my big daddies are going, and that's because they are slightly better than breaking even.  Next difficulty adjustment all my GPUs are going down and being sold off.

595  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#1] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as escrow! CLOSED!!! on: July 11, 2013, 11:12:46 AM
Screenshot of the order confirmation page sent to OP. Whew, this is finally done.  Grin

Nights guys.

Check my math here, but it has been 74 days since April 27, right? Avalon announced a lead time of 8-10 weeks.

Accounting for the fact that Avalon did not place the order with TSMC for a week or so after our order went in (I seem to recall they promised to wait until "after May 1st"?), we should be expecting an announcement that Avalon is shipping the chips any day now.

Is that about right?

596  Economy / Economics / Re: Re-visit the question: What is bitcoin's value backed by? on: July 10, 2013, 08:57:49 PM
Fiat is backed by the power of the government.  Bitcoins are backed by nothing.

Just like bitcoin, the value of fiat is not backed by government, it is backed by a consensus. Government can not give you anything in return if you bring fiat to government, you can only pay tax with fiat

Requiring tax be paid in a currency creates a demand for that currency.
597  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: proposal: delete blocks older than 1000 on: July 10, 2013, 06:39:14 PM
I propose deleting all but the last 1000 blocks. this will keep the blockchain small and lean. as blocks build upon each other, older blocks are not needed. The only problem with this is if  there is a 1001 block chain fork which shoudl not happen.

What if the last transaction to my wallet was 2000 blocks ago?  Remember that 2016 blocks are mined every two weeks.  So if I had a transaction over 2 weeks old I'm SOL?
598  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#1] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as escrow! FINISHED! on: July 10, 2013, 04:44:17 PM
What's up guys? I don't have any other news / info at this time. I actually get all my info from JohnK he has the order logins etc. I do not. I've been extremely busy with RL stuff. I'm trying to finish everything up here so that when the chips come in I can put all my time and energy into shipping them out. I also called Gary again he said the sample chips were still stuck in customs but should be cleared by Thursday...

He said they do random checks and we were one of the unlucky ones Sad

 Grin Updates make me happy.
599  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ASICS killing BTC ? on: July 10, 2013, 11:34:35 AM
So, people who invested heavily in mining equipment with hopes of getting rich quick are causing a surplus of bitcoin supply, thus driving the price down and selling their newly minted bitcoin to people who want to hold on to/spend bitcoin at a reduced rate.

I don't see anyone losing here or anything being killed, except people who overvalued coins when they were hot, and weren't planning to hold them long-term are getting the shaft. That's the inherent risk in any market.

The number of coins created remains constant; that's what difficulty is for.  So there is indeed no surplus of bitcoin supply.
600  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ASICS killing BTC ? on: July 10, 2013, 11:22:30 AM
Hey, I've been wondering, Litecoins are not immune to ASIC mining, they just need ASICs with a whole lot of memory to do it, meaning they would be way more complex and expensive. Once Litecoin goes up in value to the point where it would be worth it to invest in Litecoin ASICs, won't Litecoin become even more centralized, just because Litecoin ASICs will be very expensive to own and owned by a select few wealthy types, compared to Bitcoin, for which ASICs are dirt cheap (after initial design expense)? Right now it seems like Litecoins are more decentralized, but I fear eventually Bitcoin miners to Litecoin miners will be like Honda owners to Ferrari owners.

Memory is a lot cheaper than people seem to realize.  Slap some DDR3 sockets on your ASIC board and you have 16gb for like $60.  I understand that memory is more expensive than computation power, but not forever, and not nearly to the degree everyone here seems to think.  The reason ASICs don't exist for Litecoin right now is because no one sees the same profit margins because adoption is so much lower.  Litecoin is based almost PURELY on speculation, as opposed to bitcoin that actually has a small viable market.  In addition, Litecoin is mainly mined by people who like mining but can't mine bitcoin at a profit any longer.
