581  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KMD][dPoW] Komodo ICO - Zcash Zero Knowledge Privacy Secured by Bitcoin on: February 08, 2018, 01:40:21 PM
...If a notary receives roughly 1500 KMD per month, then 80-90% of that for running a complicated masternode without needing any skin in the game is a pretty good deal imo...
Skin can be measured in many ways.
The long and short of what I'm getting out of the last couple of pages is that instead of reinvesting my KMD into buying $35,000 worth of GPUs and hardware to mine KMD, I should have been saving my hard earned KMD and concentrated on buying votes.  Undecided

Each to their own, why is investing your KMD into GPU's for mining more KMD better than someone else investing their KMD to get a notary node any way they can? I don't get the sour grapes attitude, other than stock standard crypto jealousy of guys with bigger stacks.

Tech guys would obviously like to get voted in based solely on their skills and reliability, but what other decentralised crypto do you know of that works that way? Every crypto I know of either sells coins in ICO's, or let's people mine them with hardware, or uses some form of staking, so expecting something different with kmd is naive. Lisk, Heat, WAVES, XLM, Ardor all offer pools of some sort for small holders to earn some money, Komodo notary is difficult to setup but many can do it, so pools for notaries looks inevitable, why on earth would that be a bad thing? Wouldn't it be good to share notary profits, at least not complain that it is somehow 'unfair'?

notary nodes are a monopoly by design, it's a good system to ensure good operators, and running one isn't anyone's right unless jl777 says so. How someone gets a notary is not important, call it buyìng votes if you want, but I agree with P-Trump that there are monopoly profits here, and who gets them is best left to the market.

Any exchanges in progress, other than BarterDEX?

How many notary operators are paying other people to run their nodes now?
584  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: February 06, 2018, 01:15:55 PM
And flippening will happen during a bear market for what reasons?

Because a flippening during a major crash won't confuse new entrants, the narrative is easy to understand, "bitcoin crashed 80%, then it rose again", they won't notice the flippening even happened. Stocks often  crash and then recover, so it's not unusual,  but stocks don't experience flippening

Don't forget, crypto total user base is tiny, and on the next bull millions of new users will enter the market. Previously I could not see flippening as likely as during a bull market it has to be done in the open - 'one bitcoin dropped from 20k to 1k, and another bitcoin went from 1k to 20k ... wtf.... ' Only those deeply embedded in crypto would understand what the fuck was going on, so major turn off.

What can happen now is both bitcoins get flushed down the toilet, then 'the bitcoin' rises up again ... simple, easy to understand for the millions of noobies entering the market on the next leg up.

Edit, a flippening at 20k USD would have crashed the market, we all knew that, and so many would resist it even if they prefer BCH, but now ... market is already trashed, so might as well flip
585  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: February 06, 2018, 09:12:41 AM
Flippening is much more likely now than before imo, I couldn't see BCH taking over bitcoin throne if noobies got rekt in the process, but that assumed the change to BCH happened in the bull phase, which would have had most new investors taking a bbc up the tail-pipe north of 20K USD.

Flippening during a bear leaves no doubt that BCT is the villan, and BCH was never at the scene of the crime, the mass noobie rape fest, but comes in as the white knight in shining armor, and saves digital cash.

There's always a silver lining!!

586  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] HUSH Secure Private Messaging and Transactions [Equihash] on: February 05, 2018, 08:25:28 AM
It seems that more people had left the Hush team.
Only two are showing up on the Hush website now "Duke Leto" and "Clamoring".
Explorer seems to be down again (12:40 AM UTC)

Update: Now it is working 1:12 AM UTC

BTCH is part of SuperNET/Komodo ecosystem now, doesn't matter who Hush devs are now, the show goes on regardless.

What about Hush coin itself?

If it lives on it's a bonus, we all got 1:1 with BTCH, so focus on the positive. Being part of Komodo ecosystem ensures long term existence, even if hush becomes a zombie coin.

588  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DAO][VR] The Movement | Fully Decentralized Organization | VR Headquarter on: February 02, 2018, 10:03:56 AM
BarterDEX is an up and coming exchange related to Komodo.  I think it's more community based and may be free to add.

BarterDEX is going to be a BIG thing now that centralised exchanges are clamping down and locking accounts. afaik they're testing 'etomic' swap tech at the moment which would allow atomic swaps between any bitcoin based crypto (i.e. uses utxo's, unspent transaction outputs) and Ethereum & ERC20 tokens. Not quite there with 'etomic' swaps yet, but getting close.

The Movement community should definitely keep an eye on BarterDEX, and everyone can start learning how to use an atomic swap decentralised exchange using current bitcoin based cryptos like btc bch etc etc  They're well over 30K live swaps now, done by 100's of people with average tech skills, amazing stuff!!
589  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Legolas Exchange, fair, secure and realistic exchange on: February 02, 2018, 01:54:35 AM
Final nail in the coffin, this absurd Know-Your-Customer questionnaire where they need to know how, where and when you obtained your bitcoin details of all the places you have lived and a blood & stool sample, well they might as well have asked for one.
They don't need to do this, I think it's just because they are scared some government body might threaten to close them down even though there is no cause to do so.
I'll just see how the coin does on the open market and not bother with this ICO.

Yeah the KYC was unusual information and when I left it incomplete, came back and it was withdrawn! Bit odd.  But they have other money so they aren't worried about one persons problems.  I could have started again with another email, I err'd against it.  Reckon a lot of people think they've signed up to the next Binance, my view is the constraints they've put on their trading makes it a less appealing platform.  Hey, they'll make money either way, and the coin will give some return, so im sure it'll be OK for buyers.

They're targeting institutional investors who require the 'constraints' to trade at all, that's the point. Retail traders probably wont use Legolas.

All centralised exchanges are clamping down now, if you don't like kyc/aml (which I don't), learn to use a decentralised exchange like BarterDEX, which will remain 100% anonymous always.
590  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: RadixDLT (formerly eMunie) Discussion on: February 02, 2018, 01:41:40 AM
What do you mean?
The patenting won't work or the technology won't work?
Trying to patent (and thus, totally centralize) a cryptocurrency. Nobody would use that crap. You could simply use Paypal or Visa.

Patents stop people copying the tech before Radix is ready to open source the lot, if third parties develop tech & apps for Radix ecosystem I'm sure they wont be hit by patent infringement notices, but if bad actors try nefarious things they would.

When Radix has been developed by basically one guy, it's obviously centralised (i.e. if he goes under a bus before completion things would be grim), but that's exactly the same situation as bitcoin circa 2007/8, everything was centralised around Satoshi until he finished and released a viable version.

The difference between bitcoin/satoshi and radix/fuserleer is in Satoshi's time people were not thinking of ICO's, but today the chances of someone launching a cynical clone of Radix with scam ICO is near 100%, and that would damage Radix a lot.

My view is those who don't like patents should hold off investing until they're comfortable.
591  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] HUSH Secure Private Messaging and Transactions [Equihash] on: February 01, 2018, 12:38:16 PM
This has got to be one of the strangest airdrops ever.

The day before the airdrop, the team falls apart. The snapshot takes place either at noon (already passed) or at blockheight 250000 (which will happen in a couple of minutes)
The webwallet is no longer working, but the single active admin in Discord (TheTrunk) has a backup server. However, another admin has posted 1-2 pages back that the TheTrunk is no longer with the team.

I'm confused to say the least!

- When was the airdrop?
- Is the TheTrunk still with the team?
- Why is the webwallet not working?

Not sure what to do now!

Once the fork happens BTCH will depend only on Komodo platform for existence, and that isn't going away anytime soon.

BTCH can happily go on its merry way without any devs at all ... so don't panic!!

The crypto markets will love BTCH .... maybe the HUSH devs want to 'retire' and be anon now, and now they can, BTCH doesn't need devs!!

593  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN: UnitedBitcoin - UBTC - Launched in Silicon Valley on Dec 12 by Jeff Garzik on: February 01, 2018, 02:57:04 AM
Same question i can't send the coins back since the private key may no longer be safe.

I contacted UBTC support over this problem, answer was

"Unfortunately, you did not meet all criteria to claim UBTC phase 2 or phase 2 grace period"

So, if you had btc balances at block height 498,777 and moved them after the 3 Jan snapshot you don't qualify. You HAVE to send the micro bitcoin payment, so if you emptied your address after 3 Jan you're out of luck.

That's stupid, if you moved your coins after 3 Jan, how can you send the micro btc verification now? Surely signing a message with the old keys proves ownership.
594  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: January 29, 2018, 08:28:03 AM

0 steps should be taken.  Let it play out as decentralized intended.  Adapt or die is the crypto motto!  They were openly public about the creation of obelisk.  I can’t imagine the team didn’t have the foresight to think where there is money to be made another company with the skills wouldn’t try to step on some toes.  It’s business as usual. Again adapt or die.  Should this justify a fork. Hardly!

The biggest problem with crypto is that people don’t understand the word decentralized.  If you don’t like the path this is going then by all means the code is public.  Create siacash😜.  Won’t make a difference. The money is in where the ASICs secure the network.

BR

I agree, surviving attacks is part of the natural selection process that will decide which coins become next Amazon, Google, Facebook.

Bitmain is a predator, but sia will adapt and grow stronger.
595  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: January 28, 2018, 09:54:08 AM
Did you read news about LTC XMR possible merge?
LTC  user base and Monero anonymity.
Need to buy more monero.

Atomic swaps between the two would certainly be interesting. I do respect Litecoin a fair bit, it serves its purpose well and has a large community behind it.

You guys smoked too much of fluffypony's home grown I think, Charlie Lee must be selling dime bags from fluffy's troll stash, to all the noobies who bought his LTC exit dump.

I heard gmax, satoshilite & fluffy were starting a band too, Nirvana covers, "Nerdvana"
596  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: | ARDOR | Scalable Blockchain-as-a-Service Platform | Proof of Stake on: January 28, 2018, 03:56:40 AM
Does ForkedChain's forging pool distribute the IGNIS collected also, if yes, does it get sent along with ARDR after sending a msg to the forging pool's account?

The bundlers are paid in Ignis but they have to pay the Forgers in Ardor so I doubt the pool will earn Ignis unless it also runs some bundlers.

So ARDR blocks only contain ARDR fees, and IGNIS fees are paid to bundlers on the IGNIS chain, makes sense.
597  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: January 28, 2018, 03:47:12 AM
Recently many people are talking about the privacy of the coin excuse my ignorance but who really needs that ?
Hackers, money laundering people, high jackers, tax evaders who else ?
But an honest person in my opinion does not pay much attention to that, like I said is just my opinion

Open your mind bro, private transactions for legal payments are needed everyday - business' paying wages, expenses want those to continue being private, people want to keep their medical expenses private, what food they buy, what charities and political groups they support, all should be private. Privacy is a human right, BUT, that doesn't mean ALL blockchains neèd to be private, for some purposes transactions need to be public.
598  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 28, 2018, 03:35:50 AM
Atomic swaps are fantastic, but BarterDEX isn't for regular users yet, it works on utxo level, and it's confusing to learn after years of using a centralised order books.

They're targeting the top 1% of high end users who want maximum privacy (no kyc), with no arbitrary limits, and 100% security.

If you're happy to do KYC selfies on regulated exchanges like polo & bittrex you wont ever use BarterDEX, it's a niche service.

I would agree 100%, BarterDEX offers a niche product that's not easy to use yet, but for XMR hodlers who are privacy conscious it makes sense to use a privacy based exchange, if/when BarterDEX adds xmr support. Not much point using private xmr if the fiat exit/entry points are stockpiling user information, might as well use secure private exchanges too, especially if you're a whale. Until it's possible to use xmr for majority of day-to-day transactions, people need to use fiat, and noobies need to buy xmr in the first place, and with centralised exchanges needing to be kyc compliant, the safe option is using privacy oriented exchanges.
599  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 28, 2018, 01:15:23 AM

The undisputed king of atomic swaps is jl777 (he did them in 2014) his BarterDEX has done well over 20K swaps now, most using spv tech so you don't even have to download any blockchains, and if users are prepared to time-lock a KMD deposit they can be 0-conf too. BarterDEX has already done test 'etomic' swaps between KMD and ETH even.

It's absolute BS that Charlie Lee claims any credit for doing a few manual swaps with LTC, eventually the word will get out about BarterDEX, and people will naturally ask "why did Charlie ignore BarterDEX for so long?"

Holders of assets like DEX have already been paid 2mil USD from fees so far, just from the test alpha stage.

That would be ~$100 in fees per swap.  What am I missing?

You probably need to look into the Komodo eco-system yourself to understand it fully (it's quite expansive, so complicated), and I don't want to derail this thread, plus I only know the basics myself.

BUT, in a nutshell there are three fees being collected (notary fees, BarterDEX fees, Jumblr fees), so far the largest is notary fees for 'delayed proof of work' (dPoW), which notarizes the KMD blockchain onto the BTC chain with periodic bitcoin transactions, which therefore, gives any assetchains created on komodo platform bitcoin level security themselves by extension (btc->KMD->assetchain).

The 2 mil USD paid last month was from notary fees collected since KMD started 12 months ago.

That's what the majority of bitcoins raised in the SuperNET ICO a few years back is being used for (i.e. paying notarising fees which are btc transactions). My understanding is when a Komodo notary makes a notary tx to bitcoin they also pay a fee in KMD that is accumulated and paid to various supernet asset holders, and in Dec 2017 those 'notary fees' amounted to 2 mil USD. There are 64 KMD notaries who were elected by KMD holders, elections every year.

The BarterDEX fees are accumulating, but still small, and jl777 says he will distribute when fees total 1mil USD from now on.

Then there are fees also for Jumbling service, which adds privacy to funds coming out of BarterDEX afaik

Honestly, you need to research SuperNET/BarterDEX/KMD yourself, it's complicated so takes time to get your head around it, but I'm convinced jl777 has a great product with BarterDEX and KMD. The vision is simple  - allow risk free trading of any crypto with 100% privacy, and eventually that'll include XMR.
600  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: January 28, 2018, 12:51:51 AM
Why are all the Monero followers causing problems on every other coins threads and groups??? What's with those guys??? Getting so sick of hearing them yap.

I love the vibe of Jesus, but I hate bigoted religious zealots knocking on my door telling me I'm going to burn in the 'crucible' of Hell for my sins (i.e. opinions).

I love the privacy of XMR, but I hate the bigoted zealotry of some of the fanatics who support XMR, they're like football hooligans who are really more interested in fights than crypto tech.

iCEBREAKER doesn't care about crypto tech, he likes picking fights, makes him feel superior, but when someone pulls apart his logic he disappears. He used to be a constant critic of SuperNET and jl777, but the last 9-12 months not so much, why ... all his arguments and predictions were wrong!

People who truly follow crypto with an open mind support many coins.
