5841  Economy / Reputation / Re: 3 bounty cheaters on: December 31, 2021, 12:09:58 PM
KTChampions (and FatFork) good job on exposing this cheater.
Maybe Ratimov could help and take a better look at his other accounts, because I see this is some Russian account farm.

I really have two accounts (Dron Pelya and Lunar Crank)
Tell me, do you think provided evidence was enough for giving red tag?
There is more than enough evidence and proof that shows you used multiple accounts to abuse bounty campaigns multiple times.
You used same addresses, you used same exchanges and you abused merits sending them to yourself, and negative feedback has been given for much less things than that.
I am sure that you have more accounts that are just waiting to be discovered soon, and it's time for you to take a well deserved break from cheating sir.
Happy New Year.
5842  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitcointalk Charity and its funds on: December 30, 2021, 03:00:00 PM
One of Best_Change campaign rules is that participant will be removed without payment if he gets negative feedback during his stay in their campaign.
It does say he left campaign himself, but it's possible that manager saw negative feedback on his profile and removed him.
I am not sure who exactly is managing Best_Change campaign and counting posts, but they can clarify this for us.

It's worth noting that bL4nkcode was last online on December 21, while the Flag and negative feedback started on December 22. That means he hasn't seen it by himself on his own account, unless he used an alt.
I am sure that he received many notifications from people who mentioned his username, but it's sure not a good sign to see him being away and not logged in for nine days.
The way things are going now, I doubt we are going to see this two back again, and at very least nobody will ever trust them again.
5843  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I need test audience for a project on: December 30, 2021, 12:30:44 PM
This response is amazing. I know it's just 3 of us now but a good start. I will start it and PM you all. Many thanks.
I am not sure you will be able to send private messages to everyone as long as you are Newbie account in forum (some people have option to block all messages from newbies).
Consider making small forum contribution and upgrading your account to Copper membership, and you will be able to post images and send messages.

5844  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Battery Pandemic on: December 30, 2021, 12:23:22 PM
Yeah, they are still sending bad devices and I guess this will continue until they start to improve their quality check at factory facility.
Maybe good indicator will be when they start to send devices with new logo, this would mean that old ones will be gone.

It will be hard to edit. Even if it is moved, of course, the background that has overwritten the text will not be the same.
Hard to edit, and I am sure editing was not the case this time because we see more people with same problem.

One more evidence that this bug and glitch with screen is real, and it's happening to more and more people.
Like I said before, it is all related with power and battery, so they are suggesting to let the battery drains till device shuts off itself.
After that you can connect your device with computer, and if same thing repeat contact ledger support.
Good luck to anyone wasting money buying for this garbage...

5845  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Donation Campaign For 15-Year-Old Swimmer Lana Pudar on: December 30, 2021, 12:03:51 PM
I found something interesting after I sent out this message. I came across Lana's official website > https://lanapudar.com/.
Looks like she is somewhat familiar with crypto. At least with NFTs. She has a collection on sale that can be reached through her website (https://nftdeals.io/lana-pudar/?id=5). Let's see if there will be a response.
It's funny that her own website don't have translation in local languages but only in English, that makes me think how someone else (maybe Blocsport.one) made this website for here to advertise their own (BLS) token(s).
This is not a bad way to collect funds per se, but I don't understand keeping jpeg images on centralized networks like binance chain (or something like polygon) that is proved to revert transactions.
Those NFTs have her image and signature so that means she approved them and she knows at least something about crypto.
Let's wait and see if she replies to you Smiley

Website registered only few months ago, so it's definitely something new:

5846  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinone stopping withdrawals to unverified external wallets. on: December 30, 2021, 11:33:22 AM
So, this may be the start for other exchanges to put in effect such "measures" and for what purpose? To know who owns what?
I saw announcement that all other exchanges based in South Korea will have to do the same thing like Coinone exchange, to comply with their local laws and new regulations.
They are not the first exchange doing this, and I think that something similar happened in Europe with Netherlands, but if I remember correctly there were many complains and they removed this.
Overall I think this is just one more way for tracking people and increasing surveillance of everything they do online and offline.
Strong resistence is needed to refuse this changes worldwide, but I doubt zombified population have the will and determination to do this.
5847  Other / Meta / Re: BitcoinTalk Newbie of the Year 2021[Voting] on: December 30, 2021, 11:15:38 AM
I noticed member n0nce is making very good posts, and I talked with him several times related with various topics of hardware wallets and bitcoin nodes.
He registered in end of August but he is already a Full Member and he collected 680 merits so far.
Important thing is that he accomplished all that without any paid signature advertisement on his profile.

Everyone should have the opportunity to run a node.

I strongly believe that it's one of Bitcoin's core values to have as many full nodes (and preferably also miners, but that's another story Cheesy) as possible, distributed in as many households as possible.

While cool node boxes, composed of all-new hardware with SSDs and sexy metal cases can be built for between 200€ and 300€ (or dollars!), that might still be too much for many people. Especially in countries where wages are lower, I understand that this can be an infeasibly large sum of money.

MyNode and Argon One m.2 enclosures, full setup ~250€

The good news: it can be achieved much cheaper than the above mentioned figures! In fact, it can even be free if you have old hardware lying around.
The fact of the matter is, Bitcoin Core doesn't need a whole lot of resources and a 10-year-old, decommissioned laptop or Desktop PC might have enough power to run it.

So I would like to encourage everybody that's not running a node yet, to reconsider it if price for the device itself or an SSD was the main deterring factor.

Hardware selection
Almost any kind of desktop PC, laptop, NUC-type device of the last 10 years should suffice.

Make sure you can swap the drive (they are usually dead after such a long time) and you have a working PSU for it.
Anything else - screen, keyboard, trackpad, speakers, it can all be broken. You will SSH into the machine anyway and you can connect to a HDMI screen + USB keyboard during setup.
This kind of hardware is very often given away for free if you ask around friends and family, or got cheaply (or free) on craigslist.

Recommendations
RAM: 4GB - 8GB (Even as little as 1GB can suffice! If you have more, it's better of course Smiley See my graph down below about sync time with 4 vs 8GB)
Drive: 500GB - 1TB (HDD is fine, but SSD will help for faster initial sync. 500 will not last long and not suffice for Lightning and Electrum server - 1TB would be advised!)
CPU: Intel Core i3 (2nd generation or up tested and working just fine) or better - dual core is advised by me

If the machine you acquired, doesn't meet those specs, you can in many cases just add more RAM or swap the hard drive.
I would stay away from Chromebooks with non-replaceable drives and RAM since they're usually too small and USB drives aren't convenient.

Price
Of course, this low price is mainly made possible by relying on free and cheap old & used stuff.
The final price will depend a lot on how many things you can find for free, but it's possible to build a node from scratch for around $50.
I personally built one of my nodes off a gifted laptop that had no charger, so the person wanted to throw it away. I just bought the PSU for ~20€ and added an existing 500GB USB HDD for the bitcoin directory. So that node cost me just 20€. Here's a setup if you really can't find anything for free.

Example setup for $58:[JUST QUICKLY CHECKED EBAY!]
Laptop without RAM and charger for $29:

4GB RAM for $10:

Laptop charger for $10:

500GB HDD for $9:

Of course, shipping adds up and I actually surpassed my $50 limit already. But I just checked eBay 'buy now' section very quickly! If you search locally, ask around, you will easily find someone who will give you an old laptop that doesn't turn on anymore (often broken charger and / or battery) or with cracked screen etc. for free.
Then you just source the charger and a new HDD for a total of $20!

If you actually have a working (but old) laptop already, with charger and everything, maybe invest the full $50 into a new SSD for better performance and longevity!

TL;DR
Get as much free and cheap used, old stuff as possible and slap it together! Cheesy
I know it's not the 'deepest' topic that exists, but it's mainly to explain and show figuratively that running a node can be done very, very cheap and storage size is not an issue either, since HDDs are so damn cheap and can easily be swapped out.

5849  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why people sending transitions to Satoshi's first bitcoin wallet on: December 29, 2021, 03:04:23 PM
This could be someone desperate like Craig Wright Faketoshi doing some next level mind games, sending few sats to original Satoshi address just so he can later claim he send it to himself.
If you think this sounds to crazy than you don't know Faketoshi and what he is capable of doing, just to get recognition for being a Bitcoin creator.
He lost his first court battle against COPA and more of them are coming in January so anything is possible from him including throwing away some of his money.
I didn't conduct any deeper transaction analysis, and it's possible that other people are doing us a favor burning more bitcoin every day.

2FA would also lead to more users losing access to their account.
I think that more accounts are lost or hacked because of the lack of 2FA generally speaking, than lost because someone lost access to their device (there are always backup codes), but it would be nice to see some exact statistical confirmation.

Hey sam00, sorry I just saw now saw your message.
Sure you can use any information found in my topics and post them in your local board, just post who the original source was.

I wasn't able to watch the videos, seems like the uploader has deleted them already.
Yeah he did delete those videos, but you can still find his post on reddit.
It's a shame I didn't download those short videos, or archive them online as a backup archive (I might start doing that).
5852  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Secure Element in Hardware Wallets on: December 29, 2021, 01:52:15 PM
Thankfully the whole Bitcoin space/ecosystem is more mature and varied now, any rug pull involving a major hardware wallet provider would be limited in damage.
I have a feeling it's not mature enough, and bigger one hardware wallet manufacturer gets it increases the risk.
It's enough to shop how mature and pro company is when all private customer information is leaked online  Tongue

Nice little article about Secure Elements explaining how they work, and what disadvantages/advantages they have.
Like we talked before, biggest issue with secure elements is the fact that most of them are still closed source and we can't really verify chip security.
Second problem is all the Certification levels, that makes customer having to trust companies who are evaluating all this.
Having said that I noticed that ledger recently changed their certification to EALS+ and I can't find any information about that anywhere on internet...

They suggest best way for solving this problems and disadvantages is with using multi-vendor multisig with multiple hardware wallets.

Before start thinking about making paper wallet better listen to this video by Andreas Antonopoulos who is saying that you should Stop Using Paper Wallets!
That is coming from someone who recommended paper wallet in early days and even sold kits for making paper wallets with his company.
He is claiming that they are now obsolete technology, and last five years he keeps telling people not to use paper wallets.
They are singlekey wallets that can have only one receiving address, and they are not meant to be used by most people and newbies.

5855  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Send faxes anywhere in the world with lightning! on: December 29, 2021, 12:13:55 PM
I am not sure how using anonymous emails for sending texts works. However, if someone were to do something like "fax-in" a bomb threat or say there will be a specific horrible event in a specific location (as a prank), it would likely elicit a serious response by the local government (they would have no way of knowing if the threat is a prank or not), and after the fact, law enforcement is going to put serious resources into finding who sent the threat.
You have a very vivid imagination  Roll Eyes
That has nothing to do with Fax Bomb Mass Killing Machine, and I said before that I can call from anonymous burner phone or simply write and send anonymous letter, that nobody can track.
Government apparatus is the real dangerous parasite in this case, not regular people sending fax messages.
They also can't do anything to identify the guy who is sending Bitcoin to some other guy with non-custodial wallets, that are not connected with their identity.
5856  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I need test audience for a project on: December 29, 2021, 12:05:07 PM
I have built a testnet exchange. Very basic barebones. No jazzy UI. No fancy visuals. No mainnet (yet). Would anyone care to help me test it?
Sure, I am willing to test your exchange and give you my honest feedback.
Is this something centralized so we should do regular login with our credentials or something different?

If this thing succeeds and I move to mainnet, I will ensure to reward participants with mainnet tokens (BTC/ETH/whatever you need). Hope you will say yes  Smiley
Yes.
I prefer good old Bitcoin, so now you just need to tell me how can we access your exchange website.

https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/7544

Dude that looks fake. What is that? A Ledger turned upside down with the screen and text mirrored?
The Nano X is upside down. That black button is supposed to go on the left. The metal cover part goes on the right.
I see you have good skills in making fake stuff, so can you please reproduce that video with jackpot running numbers when entering pin code, can't wait to see that...  Cheesy
Please check reputation, registration day and post history of  reddit account imm_uol1819 who posted that image.
He is not some jocker doing mirror images like you did, and other guy shevek65 said that same thing happened to him when he used a wall charger.
This is probably some power issue and because most people use PC connection they don't have so many reports about this.

This is what happens when you allow any government to control you wallet and funds, so I am not surprised if this really happened, but it's possible that people made their own mistakes with transactions.
I would never keep Bitcoin in Chivo or any other custodial wallet if I was in El Salvador, and I would transfer it to some other open source non custodial wallet.
Like o_e_l_e_o said, only thing that is missing from wallet accounts of this people is US dollars and this could easily be hacked, I don't think 2FA or anything else would help in this case.
Interesting that most cases are round numbers missing like $800, $900, $3000, etc... and all this will only give more support to Bukele opposition to hate Bitcoin even more.  Tongue
5860  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Battery Pandemic on: December 28, 2021, 06:22:34 PM
After checking ledger reddit channel I can say that people are still reporting this issues with battery on ledger nano X device,
but what is even more interesting is some NEW bugs that showed up along the way, and it had to do with important processes for using wallet.

Here is youtube video of first Ledger Nano X Bug, showing crazy fast jackpot number countdown:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53FiVDKKV_w

Second longer video from the same guy, and one more guy posted that he also had the same bug:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LWu7-krP7I

This is what happened to one guy who connected his ledger nano X directly to power source with wall charger (not to his computer) when he started to generate 24 words.
I don't know if this is Klingon language or what, but I see he was not the first one to see this hieroglyphs during very important process of seed word generation.
Paying 119€ for this? Roll Eyes  No thank you.
