This is great, thx for posting it. I can definitely see myself accumulating enough money over the next 5-10 yrs, including what I got yet excluding any major uptick in the BTC price, to make a real estate purchase down there. I was originally thinking Belize or Puerto Rico but this seems more exclusive and more low key.

Here is the list, of the American interventions since WW2:

In addition, there's the arms deliveries going on both behind the scenes and in your face. It's stuff like this that allows the McCains of the world to get their rocks off.

Kerry Announces Increased Weapons Shipments to Syria Rebels
Won't Discuss 'Specific Weapons' But Vows Increased Effort

Quote
After talks today in London, Secretary of State John Kerry announced an increase in “all aspects” of aid to the Syrian rebels, including weapons shipments, though he declined to discuss specifics on what weapons this would involve.

Syria’s rebels have recently enjoyed an influx of US anti-tank (TOW) missiles, though they have also sought anti-aircraft weapons, which the US has so far not provided them. The rebels have openly threatened to use anti-aircraft missiles against civilian airliners in Syrian airspace, explaining the US reticence.

Kerry assured that the weapons are only going to “carefully vetted” rebel factions, though since all weapons in the past seem to quickly end up distributed across the rebel spectrum, it isn’t clear how the US hopes to keep that happening this time.

Carefully vetted my ass. Reminds me of when McCain was having a kodak moment w/ those Syrians "rebel" kidnappers last year which made him look like a numnut. Totally drove home Rand's point of not working for al qaeda nor being their air force after having been allegedly fighting Islamo terrorism for the last decade or so.

【Banned Exchange Investigation】

Dear investors,

As we said in announcement, btc-e is is banned from China.
We want to know whether which the popular exchange also been banned from your country?
For example, bitstamp, BTC-e, cryptsy etc.
We hope to get your feedback or email.
Thank you very much.

Best regards.

Dear investors,

Your feedback is very important to us, thank you.

Best regards.
This should be of no consequence. You should be up on a VPN service when you're operating in a country that's very similar to DPRK in terms of web issues. I really hope your team gets their ducks in a row and gets back to the stated contract terms so dividends can be back to normal.

Yeah, it's mostly about keeping the MIC funded and innovating more stuff that goes boom. Thinning out the herd too, perhaps?

How Snowden's Revelations Have Strengthened the NSA

http://www.garynorth.com/public/12446.cfm
Quote
Gary North (14 May 2014)

It has been a year since Edward Snowden blew the whistle on the NSA.

I appreciate what Snowden did. His decision to leak the stolen documents has done the conservative movement an enormous favor. It has blown to smithereens the greatest single myth of conservatism: "If the American people knew about this, there would be an uprising." No, there wouldn't.

Here is a variation: "If the voters knew what is being done to them by the Conspiracy, they would throw out the conspirators at the next election." No, they wouldn't.

I have heard variants of these arguments for 50 years. Conservatives don't learn. They think that by exposing the Bad Guys, they will defeat the Bad Guys. They're wrong.

Snowden has proven, as no one in my era has better proved, that exposure of the Bad Guys in government has no negative effect on them.

If exposure does come, and the public does nothing to thwart the hidden Bad Guys, then the Bad Guys no longer have to worry about further exposure. It will be old news. At this point, they can do even more to secure their position of power. The pressure blows over. There may be a time of bad publicity, but this does not change anything fundamental.

Before Snowden, the best examples were the big bankers, who were bailed out a taxpayers' expense in 2009. They got richer. The public knows. The public groused a little. Did this hurt the bankers? No. They got bonuses for their failures. Congress bailed out the big banks, and there were no negative public sanctions on either Congress or the big banks. It's business as usual.

The voters know. The voters have done nothing. It's old news.

But Snowden's revelations have gone far beyond the big bank bailouts of 2009. They have thrown light on a power grab by the government that is perpetual. It was generally hidden. James Bamford's book, The Puzzle Palace (1983), did good work. It had no negative effect on the NSA. But he did not have incontrovertible evidence. Snowden did, and he released it. He got worldwide publicity.

The NSA is more powerful than ever. From now on, any further exposure is old news. No harm, no foul.

Sen. Paul does have a class action suit going and something may or may not come from it. But ultimately, if and when he does run for President I hope the crypto community will be more well off by then to be able to fund a campaign like he's going to run.

90% of All Deaths In War Are CIVILIANS

Washington's Blog (16 May 2014)

And the U.S. Launched 201 Out of the 248 Armed Conflicts Since the End of WWII

The June 2014 issue of the American Journal of Public Health notes (free PDF here; hat tip David Swanson):
Around 90% of all deaths in war are civilians:

“The proportion of civilian deaths and the methods for classifying deaths as civilian are debated, but civilian war deaths constitute 85% to 90% of casualties caused by war, with about 10 civilians dying for every combatant killed in battle.”

Swanson notes: “A top defense of war is that it must be used to prevent something worse, called genocide. Not only does militarism generate genocide rather than preventing it, but the distinction between war and genocide is a very fine one at best.”

The U.S. launched 201 out of the 248 armed conflicts since the end of WWII:

“Since the end of World War II, there have been 248 armed conflicts in 153 locations around the world. The United States launched 201 overseas military operations between the end of World War II and 2001, and since then, others, including Afghanistan and Iraq ….”

U.S. military spending dwarfs all other countries:

“The United States is responsible for 41% of the world’s total military spending. The next largest in spending are China, accounting for 8.2%; Russia, 4.1%; and the United Kingdom and France, both 3.6%. . . . If all military . . . costs are included, annual [US] spending amounts to $1 trillion . . . . According to the DOD fiscal year 2012 base structure report, ‘The DOD manages global property of more than 555,000 facilities at more than 5,000 sites, covering more than 28 million acres.’ The United States maintains 700 to 1000 military bases or sites in more than 100 countries. . . .”

This may not be an accident ….

The Project On Military Procurement notes:

To support its world-wide empire at the turn of the 19th century, Great Britain adopted the “two power standard,” which called for the Royal Navy to be equal to the combined strength of the next two largest navies in the world. The United States has more than doubled that standard as regards budgets, and yet our politicians and senior defense officials complain such outspending is inadequate.

In other words, America has apparently adopted an “total power standard” … spending more on military than most of the rest of the world combined:
The United States spent more on its military than the next 13 nations combined in 2011.

5887  Other / Politics & Society / How Marijuana Legalization Is Destroying Mexican Drug Cartel Business on: May 18, 2014, 12:02:00 AM

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 05/16/2014 19:26 -0400

Submitted by Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

Nothing is more amusing (and sad) than when I see some ignorant out of stater commenting about how nightmarish the legalization of marijuana has been for Colorado. The most high-profile and hilarious example of this came from disgraced New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who I have criticized sharply on several occasions, here, here and here. He foolishly spouted some hysterical nonsense last month when he said:
“See if you want to live in a major city in Colorado, where there’s head shops popping up on every corner and people flying into your airport just to come and get high. To me, it’s just not the quality of life we want to have here in the state of New Jersey and there’s no tax revenue that’s worth that.”
Honestly, what planet does this clown live on? As someone who actually lives in Colorado, I can tell you that the only thing that has changed since legalization is that there is a greater sense of freedom and people are no longer getting arrested in droves for non-violent drug possession charges. Let’s not forget that the police arrest someone every two seconds in America, many of which are for mere drug possession charges. Apparently, Christie thinks this is a good thing and ultimately results in this mythical wonderful “quality of life” that apparently exists in some corner of New Jersey where rainbow farting unicorns roam the countryside.

In 2012, a study by the Mexican Competitiveness Institute found that US state legalization would cut into cartel business and take over about 30 percent of their market.

Given the DEA’s historic relationship with the Sinaloa cartel, and the agency’s fury over legalized marijuana, it almost seems like the DEA wants to crush the legal weed market in order to protect the interests of their cartel friends.
Almost.
Not almost, that is exactly what they want to do.
"The DEA doesn’t want the drug war to end,” said Nelson, when asked about a possible connection between the agency’s hatred of legal pot and its buddies in Sinaloa. “If it ends, they don’t get their toys and their budgets. Once it ends, they aren’t going to have the kind of influence in foreign government. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but where there’s smoke there’s probably fire.”

The Sinaloa cartel came to prominence in January when the “Fast and Furious” scandal surfaced, in which it was revealed that DEA agents ignored Sinaloa drug shipments and essentially granted immunity to cartel criminals in exchange for information.

Another way the DEA tries to shut down legal marijuana dispensaries, and medical marijuana clinics, is through the banks. While large banks like HSBC and Wachovia have gotten away with laundering billions in cartel drug money, famously referred to as “too big to jail” by Attorney General Eric Holder, banks have been meticulously instructed by the DEA not to work with any kind of marijuana facility.

That’s pennies compared to what the US spends on the drug war. According to the Drug Policy Alliance, we spend $51 billion per year fighting illegal drugs. A 2010 study by Harvard economist Jeffrey Miron found that not only would the US save tremendous amounts of money were it to end drug prohibition, legalizing could bring in an additional $46.7 billion in yearly tax revenue.

“We’ve spent 1.3 trillion since 1972 on the drug war. What have we gotten for that? Drugs are cheaper and easier to get than ever before,” Nelson told VICE News.

Who cares about the stupid Chinese military dictators? BTW... if any Chinese want to access the Bitcoin websites, then they can do that via the TOR browser or through using a VPN.
Too bad the Chinese exchanges weren't pushing clients to get VPNs going unless they assumed they were gonna be left untouched going on into the future. Anyways, China sure is going DPRK on social stuff again.

Up front, I can see people not necessarily being aware of the fact that they're holding BTC but let's face it, this is born out of BTC territory. Also, when the price starts making a rally people will feel like they're at a casino and constantly checking their account. That will, however, drive them to tell their friends and spread the word about it and spring more usage. This concept could really mainstream things w/o getting all technical and stuff.

I signed up and added the sig line on May 4th (post 5364?) but I was a little unclear about the posts vs activity as the post above mine confused me. Anyways, my activity back then was at 126 and now it was at 180, and apparently my posts are the same (still unsure about the two). Either way, I've cleared the minimum requirement and since I don't troll I imagine all of my postings where constructive on some level. What would one do in this situation?

If you posted, the posts go up. You probably read incorrectly.
Also, you did not post your starting posts and bitcoin address, so you are not eligible for payment.
Actually I did place my starting posts and address but retracted it saying I misread OP. figures. God, this forum needs to be upgraded so edits are shown in-post and so embedding is allowed for videos. /endrant

Almost none of the people I talk to about it recognize any of the stateless functions of it just that it could be the payment system of the future. Many are aware of the price swings so at minimum, it's on the radar of plenty and will likely get their attention next time the news makes the rounds on the coinage (per price uptick).

5896  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Operation American Spring - days away! on: May 15, 2014, 11:13:43 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if this is orchestrated by Agent Provacs intent on starting shit and allowing the media to paint any right wing gun owner/militia types as domestic terrorists paving the way for either gun control or some sort of martial law. The real way to have an effect on how things run is to become precinct delegates in the GOP and drive out establishment party office holders and then we'd have more control in terms of dismantling the primary systems in favor of state conventions paid for by the party regulars (saving taxpayers money) so we have party endorsements and a larger part of the expenditures under our control. So, go to your upcoming county conventions and see if you can get elevated to delegate or alternate status for state. The average state convention has ~2200 delegates compared to X hundred of thousands or millions of primary voters and then there's your leverage as a delegate over just a measly voter.

^^^ So it is almost certain that Billary will become the next POTUS? It will be a disaster, for both the US citizens and people from other countries. I still remember her adventures from Bosnia:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I23fjRN-PGc

it was almost certain that hilary would win the primaries in 2008 and eventually go on to defeat the less popular mccain.. but that didn't happen. it's still too early to know what's going to happen.

either way, i tore up my state ballot this year.. and i'm definitely not voting for someone with a (D) or (R) next to their name.
Yeah, I won't be voting for the GOP top of the ticket if Rand isn't the nominee, that's for sure. I'm an ancap that stands w/ Rand as he's the only one that would even remotely get us some sort of Constitutional government again and from there, we can tinker it over time towards real laissez faire capitalism. I really like his pitch of Economic Freedom Zones to the inner city folk and it's really resonating business types from all backgrounds making him the go-to guy that can offer a true republican party renaissance away from the neocons.

5900  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to keep your Cryptocurrency safe - an article by The Cryptocurrency Times on: May 14, 2014, 04:40:47 PM
IMHO it does not matter what wallet you use. You can even use any lite wallets. The only thing you need to be sure is:

- Encrypt your wallets with STRONG password
- Keep the 'savings' wallet offline
- Keep a copy of wallets on multiple USB drives and put them at multiple secure locations like your bank locker
- Export the private keys and store them on offline device
- Print private keys on paper and put it in your bank locker
Unfortunately, if someone were new to Bitcoin and they saw this as the safest way to store coinage, they'd likely run in the other direction and want nothing to do with crypto. If people want the average boob to use this stuff and thus mainstream the price factor into largesse, ya gotta come up w/ an easier yet safe way of cold storage.
