Not sure if they are allowed to treat credit card customer's differently, there must be some policy that says you can't charge extra if your customer is paying by credit cards.
Many brick-and-mortar shops don't accept CC at all (in UK) due to high fees (they do accept debit cards tho), or have a minimum purchase amounts set for cc payments. So I don't think it would be any sort of illegal 'discrimination'. Either way, you can just do it as "discount for paying BTC", not as an extra charge for using CC. Like the Newegg and others did. As for Overstock, $3m sales in bitcoin is actually pretty decent result if you ask me. Their predictions were just too optimistic, that's another story. I think bitcoin discounts are just a matter of time. So far all the (large) businesses could get all the love from the community just by mere fact they started to accept bitcoin, they'll soon realise that in a long run - that's simply not enough.

... I know that they are accepting it if you do some research BUT why hiding it ?? ...
Why? Likely for the same reasons Mozilla removed bitcoin donation button. It distracted page viewers resulting in less donations. https://fundraising.mozilla.org/bitcoin-donations-to-mozilla-17-days-in/We received numerous requests from donors that they wanted bitcoin featured right on our primary donation form. Given the volume of page views to that form (millions during the life of the campaign), I was concerned that adding any unnecessary text would distract donors and depress non-bitcoin conversions, the source of more than 99% of all our campaign revenue. So we decided to add “Donate with Bitcoin” text, and test whether it depressed conversion or not. Here is what that looked like: [...]
The test showed that revenue per visitor drops by about $0.07 USD. Here is the Optimizely graph showing a 7.5% reduction in revenue per visitor:[...]

well by co exist do they mean china can use it for legitimate trades with merchants or do they mean they've bought enough now and want a quick pump before banning it again.
Why would the Chinese government manipulate the Bitcoin price? They have better things to do than getting into something with a market cap of just 4.6 billion. I don't believe they would bother to play with BTC market manipulation. But the truth is, if they gave a green light to cryptos and created friendly regulations, the market cap could easily increase ten-fold.

This isn't Russia versus the US. The ruble is down towards the Euro and all the world's currencies, even the Polish Zloty! I hope it could kickstart a revolution in Russia, but Russians will probably starve to death not understanding anything.
The Ruble is going down due to the sanctions, so obviously it weakens compared with any currency. What kind of revolution are you hoping for? You want to see their government replaced by "US approved" oligarch? How would that benefit the average Russian?

Yea it is kind of wack for Wikimedia to require you to put so much personal information:
-snip-
Kind of defeats the purpose of Bitcoin being a truly anonymous no strings attached method of payment.
They don't force you to use your real name. You only need it for tax purposes if you want to claim a tax deduction (they will email you a receipt with the information you entered). I've donated twice with fake names and bogus addresses. I don't see what is the problem. Some people who report their Bitcoin transactions to the IRS would probably want to take a deduction. Shouldn't be that way though. Look at Tor Project: https://www.torproject.org/donate/donate.html.enNice and clean donate page, Bitcoin highly visible without filling a bunch of info, and email is optional. No excuses for Wikimedia or Mozilla's archaic and convoluted Donate system. OK, so now tell me how do I get proper receipt (for tax purpose) from TOR when I send donations without submitting any details? Wikimedia's not TOR's donation option is done properly. You want a tax deduction, you get the receipt hassle free. You want to stay anonymous, just type "John Doe", it's not that hard, is it?

Hi All,
For all the Debit Card that Xapo sent out they waived the fees for all users who got the card so I think they are honoring it. They are no monthly fees or fees for swiping. You have the typical fees for spending overseas because of FX rates.
T
That's a great news. But if it's true why they haven't updated the fee schedule on their website? When you google "xapo fees" you get this: http://support.xapo.com/95219-What-fees-are-associated-with-the-Xapo-Debit-CardDid they waived the fees only for the first customers, who complained to be mis-leaded?

Please let me know if you think I should make this business my family member runs into a business that accepts Bitcoin!
Why not? What does he/she have to lose by accepting bitcoin? I won't be buying anything anytime soon, as currently I've got loads of other expenses, but I like the website and the prices seem pretty reasonable (not sure what are the delivery costs). Accepting bitcoin itself won't instantly drive a masses of new buyers. But it can work out quite good if you create a dedicated thread in a marketplace section (regularly updated with new items, discounts etc) + be active on reddit. Another thing - offer small discount for paying with BTC. Just share your lower fees savings with the customers, that always leaves a good impression. And participate in events such as Bitcoin Black Friday. Good luck!

I just heard Alex Trebek ask the question something like "Magic The Gathering Exchange in 2014 had a scandal involving which commodity?"
It's not a first time. They've done it before in December 2013: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFnCkxc8tCo

Not sure what all the fuss is about. The Good Wife featured an entire episode centered around bitcoin back in January of 2012. Is the excitement because it was briefly mentioned in a movie in 2014 or what?
Speaking for myself, I never got excited about the Good Wife episode, as I've never seen any of GW episode. And have likely heard of GW because it was mentioned on bitcoin forum, not the other way around. It's not that big of a news (meaningless compared to Overstock, Dell, PayPal news), but afaik it's the first BTC reference in the multi-million production, so just another 'milestone' crossed. That's all.

Good to see Bitcoin get more mainstream mentions in movies, TV, news, and media. Now if we can somehow get a huge blockbuster Marvel movie, James Bond movie, or dedicated episode on like The Big Bang Theory...that would be even better.
That could be interesting. I agree that the more exposure the better, but I think better results could come from targeting a more willing audience. Anyone want to phone the guys of the big bang theory and pitch an episode plot? I don't think it would be that difficult to get BBT to mention bitcoin, but it surely will be costly. Notice they've got shitload of product placements in their series.

Hmm, I'm still having trouble. The site just seems to load forever. Same thing's happening on my phone as well. I tried clearing my browser's cache and history. This is what I see: https://i.imgur.com/T5KkIas.pngWorks OK for me on Opera, Chrome and FF. I do get similar issue from time to time but refreshing always does the trick.

Payment Method:bitcoin only : 1QGihNDZUDvzZXWHNV9Nem5MQZMmHPeMq (ATTENTION:The adress won't be changed )
Why? It's way better to use separate address for each customer. If you have 2 people buying the same amount of gold on the same day, there could be a confusion which of them paid and which one didn't.

Just keep your paper wallets in the same place where your other important/valuable papers are.
That is what I am currently doing. I think, that somebody who would look through it, wouldn't recognize it as something valuable and would just throw it away. I showed my paper wallets to my girlfriend once and told her how much they are worth, but she just asked me, if I would put that money into a bank. I couldn't really bring my self to telling her, what to do, with them in case of my death, since she already worries enough about the future. Keeping cold wallet with other important papers is useless if it's encrypted. And if it's not, it's very risky (burglars etc). There are always some traditional ways like notary or bank deposit box. But I wonder if it's possible to create some sort of decentralised contract, ie that sends specific email to the relevant person, when there's no activity on particular address for 6 months or year... Anyway, thanks for bringing up this subject, it's worth discussion. I reckon that in 20-30 years there will be quite significant amount of bitcoins lost because of deaths, unless there are some easy solutions available.

So I sent a payment to Bitmain last night.
This morning, I get an email saying that they never got payment.
Here's what my Bitcoin QT says:
Status: 0/unconfirmed Date: 12/14/2014 17:46 To: Bitmain 12/14/14 - 18BE1CLw5cjDn7tEGuQssiS2g9GoAMsTBf Debit: -1.243 BTC Transaction fee: -0.0005 BTC Net amount: -1.2435 BTC Transaction ID: 0c79d295ad4732b416ae8ce5744c20b72f7dab31ec7a528ac06da8d7138cf66b 0c79d295ad4732b416ae8ce5744c20b72f7dab31ec7a528ac06da8d7138cf66b-000
Unconfirmed 0 / 6 confirmations is what it says when I hover over the transaction.
Never had this happen before.
Help!
No such transaction on the Blockchain, are you synced?

Good guess! Everything finally got sorted with no reply to any emails or support requests. Definitely odd, but as long as I got paid!
I noticed they're always slower in replying when implementing new features (BlackJack in this case?), maybe that was the issue here.
|
|
|
Maybe he would be better off by reporting BitPay's bug to Coinbase But seriously, the support's reply is just below any standards. "Thanks for reporting critical bug and saving our asses. Now fuck off". they (bitpay in this case) make so much money and when somebody reports a critical bug and all he gets is a "thank you" ? are you fucking kidding me?! Well, to be perfectly fair to BitPay, they also offered their "Warm regards" - surely worth more than lousy $1000 from Coinbase or others.

It all depends what market you operate in. If you're in highly competitive low-margin retail sector (selling exactly same goods as your competitors) sharing your savings with customers could give you a crucial advantage. But if you're an artist, selling your paintings with large profit margin, giving 1-2% discount wouldn't matter that much. But then again, there's also the PR factor, if you choose to share, you'll be perceived as more genuine and honest merchant and you surely would get more sympathy from bitcoiners. As for your oil price drop examples. I think the most important reason for that is what goose20 wrote: ... 2. Consumer expectations - we get accustomed to a certain price level - no consumer calculates what input costs are; and ...
Also, some businesses (such as UPS/FedEx) simply cannot be too flexible with their pricing. Adjusting prices every week or two would be seen as very unstable and unpredictable by their partners. I'm sure when the opposite happens (oil price goes up) they won't rush with increasing their charges.
