61  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: February 06, 2018, 01:18:21 AM
You can bank on difficulty rising. Even if btc price goes back to 20k, its a stretch to ever roi on a newly purchased s9

You really shouldn't say stuff like this, if you aren't careful someone might believe you even though you are 100% wrong.

People used to say that about the s7s all the time. An s7 at 10c power was profitable until about 3 days ago....the s9 will be making money for a long time to come.

Ok, say I am wrong, and someone listened and didnt waste their money. It's not like offering FA, or investment advice of any sort.

Profitable versus ever returning investment money IS NOT THE SAME THING. Spending ~2.5k and waiting till march is more or less an absolutely horrible idea.
62  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: February 06, 2018, 12:18:12 AM
7.4 months with no diff adj factored. Its not hard math man. It's going down much faster than people realize.( profitibilty) 10-15% loss per month, compounding.

Could things change? Yes sure. China miners could die off for a month or two, all miners with high costs could shut off, and a few other factors.

Diff going up is a fairly constant thing for the next little bit, and an s9 purchased for march delivery will get smoked on roi-ability, even with free electric.
63  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: February 05, 2018, 10:18:44 PM
Last week ROI on an S9 purchased on shitmain's website was slightly less than a year at .10/kWh. Today, it's over 400 days which essentially means never as difficulty is still rising and bitcoin is still falling. At this rate, it won't even pay to turn on an S9. I guess all the manufacturers pushed their prices high up so they could squeeze the last bit of profit from us miners before the crash.

I don't know how you're running the numbers, but they're wrong. First of all the ROI of an S9 is not anywhere near as long as 400 days, even with bitcoin doing so poorly recently, so that says something right there, that it can keep being profitable even in this environment. Second of all - assuming the difficulty keeps rising and the price of bitcoin keeps falling - yes, the S9 would not make a good investment. However the truth of the matter is that you can't see the future any more or less than the rest of us. You don't know if the price of bitcoin will keep falling, or if it will rise, or what the difficulty will do, etc. If you believe in bitcoin and believe it will make a comeback (which history tells us it will), then you don't base your numbers off today, but what you expect them to be in the future, especially with something as volatile as bitcoin.

S9s will be mining at a loss around June. Roi is approaching never very quickly at current btc prices.
There are places in the world with cheap power. Hell even the USA has places with power under .05/kwh

Even with free electric they will be returning nearly nothing. You will never roi. Buying one now at retail prices would probably take well over a year. Currently around 12-14 months without even factoring diff adjustments that are sure to come. Probably closer to two years plus to roi.

Aaah the ignorance of youth and uninformed...

Maybe your 150 bucks a month is worth more than everyone else’s. Otherwise your snarky comments are just trolling.

Interested to see what the next difficulty change is going to look like.

Going DOWN 3.5 ish. Finally.

Not sure where you see that. Btc.com says still going up

Saw it earlier today, admittedly haven't checked in the last few hours.

GMO just barely got their 12nm miner functional, 7 is still a LONG ways out

Do you have any more info about that? Like performance or if they plan to sell the miners to anyone.

Its not going to happen this calendar year. You shouldn't worry just yet.

Time is money. Thats the thing here. If people cannot understand, or gibberish(to them) is regurgitated as gospel to them as answers, its understandable why frustration develops.

At the end of the day we're all here to make money. Literally making money. Time is the one constant we can effect, how we use it, what we do with it is all vital to each individual operation.

Putting time into something you can't fully grasp, while competitors are willing to pad your wallet with immediate rewards is expectedly hard for new people. I've been here since I first powered up my miner and its been an exercise in restraint with the current drought.

Hey guys, anyone willing to help me..? I'm tryna calculate how much I'll earn if we find a block at this moment.

My ramp is up at 7.5 exactly (outta 13.5), and my shares is 220k. Pool is at 271.30% as we all can see. So, if we hit a block of 15 BTC, how do you calculate to speculate your reward..?

Thanks guys. Oh also, let's say we hit another one right after it. Maybe in 10 minutes, so our pool % is real low, my ramp still the same, and my shares will be around a single K..? That case too Smiley oh and maybe if I was fully ramped up etc..?

Thanks guys Cheesy
Well to work out how far yaw into yaw 5Nd there's this post yesterday Smiley
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=789369.msg29218581#msg29218581

Then you'd have to add up yaw total in the 5Nd which would be the sum of "Your Diff" on the Shifts page going back 5Nd, but the 'current' 5Nd point isn't shown there Sad

OK, it would be possible to actually do the 5Nd calculation on the Shifts page, if I added the "Pool Diff" per shift also.
It of course wouldn't be exact, since it wouldn't include the current shift, but it would only be wrong by 1 shift, so not very inaccurate.
The Pool->Graph does have the "Pool Diff" value, but it's not easy to add up 5Nd on that graph.

I've put that into the "look into TODOing it" list.

No wonder why I wasn't able to calculate it on my own. I really think you need to translate everything that is on the site to some average-joe-friendly format Tongue at the moment, it's really written for true geeks who've been mining since the very early days.

I really, still, have no idea so far about everything that's on the site, I'll just see when we find a block. I get it, I get the concept, I know it's better the longer you stay, I know my downtime of 20 minutes will be covered etc (it's actually the only reason why I switched over), but that's it. Frankly, nowhere on the site says it! It says 5Nd, PPLNS and that's it. I tried understanding it over and over only to come back to the forum and ask what it means...

Oh well, mine on Smiley

At least you understood the most important thing which is... shutup and mine on... Grin  In all seriousness, it isn't too difficult to understand. The concepts just need to be broken down "barney style".

If enough people ask similar questions over and over, is the problem new people? Or perhaps could it be the common denominator?

As a new miner, my gripes are many; take it as constructive criticism.

There are a lot of repeated questions on here that could be easily addressed by an updated more concise website.

There is no way to know exactly where your ramp is, and with a ramp up taking over a full difficulty adj period, that is a lot of time to wait, coming from someone who already waited 2 plus months for their miner to arrive.

The website sucks: Compare it to slush, because yes that is the biggest competitor. Their interface is gorgeous. Lots of information, lots to see. All relevant stuff is addressed and laid out.

The app sucks: Again compared to slush, its ridiculous.

Spend the time and money to update the site. Make it more user friendly.(read newcomer) I'm slowly getting the hang of things, but I have to say none of the questions I've needed addressed would have happened at slush. Theres really no reason for the website and app to suck so hard in what is more or less the top of the computing world.

It's ok, bud. You may be happier at slush, but you'll make more here. Are your feelings and impressions of GUI's more important than your wallet balance?

edit: wanted to add that the website has all the information you need. 'sall good, homey.

This isn't exactly how you win new people over, homey.

The website looking like a middle school science fair project with an app to match IS a legitimate issue. Someone suggesting that making it more usable than the current pile of dogshit would cost over 100k? or take time; implying that over three years isn't enough? Come on, lets be realists.

ROI is why I chose this pool, and adding a bit more horsepower to the pool would help lower the awesome variance.

Dang, Kano pool really really takes some patience Tongue

It's been 12 days, and my ramp is up at 6.10av outta 13.5, so it takes more than 16 days as well Tongue

Definitely agree. Feeling a bit mislead right now as I’m a week in and not even a third of the way. Unless scaling isn’t linear, it’s significantly longer than projected. Quite frustrating combined with no rewards. Stocking this out but it’s not easy to see the light at this point

For those suggesting reading the website for answers, I argue back with: if the website actually did a decent job of explaining, there would be much less question repetition here. It may make sense to people that already know the answe, but to newcomers it is very vague in many regards.
The red line on the graph is the average of the entire graph, not of the 5nd. The graph covers about 23-24 days worth of shifts.

Fair enough, makes a LOT more sense.

So then, there is no way to actively monitor ones current ramp levels.

The danger that they created for themselves is now people can follow the money. 6k is a lot for some people, enough that they're going to have to look over their shoulders for the rest of their lives.

Hey all!

Sorry if I sound noob but where do I see the ramping status of my s9 in kano's website?

Shift graph. On the right is what your average is, with a red indication line. It moves up quite slowly.

80  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin Difficulty Increase what's going on ? on: January 26, 2018, 05:53:41 PM
What will happen soon though, is miner costs will go down as those that can't compete get out of the game, or newbies coming in never ROI and have to take a loss.

I semi hope price stagnates for another month or so, so I can collect a few more miners from those whos dreams were thrashed.
