Soooo, 1080ti is now THE best card for mining eth?

Situation has been improving for the past week, no doubt. However, profitability has to double at least to justify buying new cards. Buys coins instead of cards if you are still not in the game. Unless you stumble upon some bargain card prices.

I am not buying any ASIC from China. Thank you and goodbye.

This sounds like a bitmain/asic business adventure gone wrong?

I do not find it right to split it as east and west, because it has to be a global market, but there is a monopolization in China, I do not support it either
You are right about that one and i might`ve gone a bit too far. I was really surprised that no other country (except maybe Russia, i don`t know who manufactures Baikals) produces pro mining gear. C`mon, not even Japan?

You establish your company in China and your miners are late, they break, you don't honor your warranty, good luck for people trying to sue you. If you are based in the US and your miner comes out in a different shade of silver, you get your ass sued to hell.
Exactly this is what bothers me the most - idea of giving hundreds of $$ to someone far far away in a country with no customer protection whatsoever. Also, when it comes to more expensive stuff, i sure as hell would not buy (for instance) Chinese car over US or Euro one.

If eventually ASICS take over, what to buy apart from the shady Chinese? Where are western ASIC manufacturers? USA, Germany, UK, France, anyone? Where are the competent "men of the West"? Are there any left?

Ethereum dev's do not plan to fork because of the Bitmain Antminer E3 Eth ASIC Miner and Zooko has expressed little interest in being prepared for forking equihash if there is a public asic miner released.
Those bitches surely forgot how they came to where they are now. They need to be schooled and noone should be mining their coins. I would really like to see their networks go down.

Do you think bitmain is secretly mining ETH with ASICs?
I dont see any reason why wouldn`t they..

Lets remember mining is not about profit and is about securing the blockchain you believe in.
Sure.. Thats exactly what i had in mind when i bought shitloads of graphic cards last year and payed them a lot of money. I told to myself: "damn, these cards are expensive, but i just know that they will secure dat blockchain!". Get real. We`re in it for the money. Also stop mixing blockchain tech with crypto currencies. then be in it for the long term... don't sell things you mine right away. If you are unable to pay for the electricity out of pocket then maybe you should stop mining. No, i`m fine. I mine with a plan. And it`s a long term one. I just wanted to make it clear that, at least for me, i am in this game solely for the profit and nothing else. That is your prerogative of course but I am in it to free us from fiat which is doomed to fail. I would love to create a stable crypto that people can actually use for a reliable means of transacting. I am actually working towards a project now to do just that. ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) All the best with the project mate ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) And if i may add yours is a noble path.

I`m not buying anything from those fuckers. Horrible shipping dates, short warranty, half the world away, third world country produces them (yes, China is still a third world country to me, all things considered)... No thanks. When those heaters become available at my computer store with a regular warranty, why not. Until then.. mmmhhmmm
edit: just checked the profitability and this box is making about 85$ profit per month, with electricity at 0.13$/kwh and current price. Way too shabby.

Mining is still worth it of course, and it'll remain that way until we have PoW crypto-currencies running smoothly. Profitability sometimes increases and decreases, so if you're going with the safe strategy, it's still worth it.
Spot on. Is it "worth it" depends on personal expectations.

Small time players with one or two rigs and full price for electricity are being pushed out. Only big farms with negotiated (lower) power cost will prevail. People with weaker cards (580@570, 1050 and 1060) will shut down first.

Mining is very risky, and compared to just buying coins when they are low, probably not as profitable.
Utter nonsense. Do you know for sure when (or at all) those coins "bought when they are low" go up? If you do, then you should be a millionaire by now and would not be wasting time on this forum. Buying coins and praying for them to go up is a 50/50 chance. Pure gambling.
