61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to know 100% who is Satoshi Nakamoto or the Bitcoin Cinderella shoe. on: June 28, 2019, 09:10:28 AM

If you check the blockchain and the first blocks mined, you will see that every block mined was on a different address. Then when reaching 1000 or 2000 total all the address where sending the 50 BTC mined to a single new address collecting the money.
After that the money was split in two. For example 1000 sent to 2x addresses 500 BTC, then sent to 2x addresses 250 each until back to 50 BTC.

What are you talking about?
None of the funds were ever moved.

I was thinking the same. None of Satoshi's coins have ever been moved and every block reward is in a different address.

Here is a link about satoshi pattern, the best attempt of tracking Satoshis coins.

63  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to check the balance of the list of 1 million Bitcoin Addresses? on: June 10, 2019, 05:44:41 PM
the fastest and easiest way to make unlimited searches without running a node, is to download the current list of all addresses with balances

And then do searches from that file.

filesize is only about 900MB.

The drawback is obviously that all the results you get are from the moment when the list was generated.
If you need to know the balances from this exact second then this is obviously not for you.

This thread has info on how to make or get a list of all addresses with balances.

64  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is or was bitaddress affected by this „bug“? on: June 10, 2019, 05:28:25 PM
bitaddress also collects mouse movements and/or inputted random text to add to the randomness, so it is not completely dependent on any possibly faulty RNG.

Now it feels good that they have added that bit of extra security.
65  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: BitCrack - A tool for brute-forcing private keys on: June 08, 2019, 10:10:33 PM
there is no way to prevent the bruteforce of private keys, and with the development of a quantum computer it will be millions of orders of magnitude faster.

Yep, but even quantum computers cannot get private keys if the public key is not available. ie. if the address has no transactions out.

So if you are using bitcoin correctly you wont have a problem even with QC:s in use.
66  Economy / Games and rounds / One testnet coin giveaway on: June 06, 2019, 12:34:23 PM
Cleaning my computer, and found a testnet private key with 1BTC in it.
If anyone wants to put it back to circulation or return it to a faucet, feel free to do it Smiley

Bitcoin Address: (testnet)
mvwXQY1FAm9BsVdUZ7YaZhpCBnJwT17D5v
Private Key:
cVn8F12YJtKAUNCiUAbzW3PxpGPxxP6yiiwYN1mHh2dmuK8XdVZ2

Have fun playing with testnet coins

I would return it to a faucet, but I don't have an installed testnet wallet.

67  Other / Off-topic / Re: Time Wasting at Funerals: Why? on: June 06, 2019, 07:31:21 AM
If you go to a funeral of someone you do not care, it seems just a waste of time.

But if you go to a funeral of a loved one, the rituals can make it easier to say goodbye and help in the mourning process.

Do not judge.

And what is time Wasting? Two wasted minutes? Wow your time is precious. Funerals take many hours anyway.

68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can lost Bitcoins be traced? on: June 06, 2019, 07:20:08 AM
How does Bitcoin became untraceable if it's a public ledger where all transactions are viewable by the public or anyone who wanted to see it? Huh Even if a hacker hacked your Bitcoin you can still trace the transaction and its destination wallet but to trace who is the hacker that will be another issue and it will surely take a lot of time and effort before you can trace the person. Cheesy

Well. You can track the coins, BUT you can't know if the thief is still the owner, or if he sold them when the coins moved to a new address.

If you could follow a 10$ note. What use would it be. After the note changes hands is it still a stolen note?
If a thief uses a stolen 10$ note in a Macdonalds, and then Macdonalds takes it to a bank, Can you accuse Macdonalds as being a thief, because it has a "stolen" note?

Every time the address changes, the owner could change too. That makes blacklisting and following coins pointless.
69  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Looking for Historical Bitcoin Core Source on: June 05, 2019, 01:05:04 PM

Github also has them from the version 0.1.5 upwards.  That version was made on: 16.9.2009.

https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/releases?after=v0.1.6test1

But for the original, khaled0111's link is good

70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Used Computer Equipment For CryptoCurrency Unsafe? on: June 05, 2019, 12:38:40 PM
Do not buy used or NEW computer equipment for crypto use  Grin

You all forgot that even new computers can and do come with malware/trojans/viruses.

Eg. My Lenovo laptop came with superfish malware when it was new. And it is still there. I couldn't get rid of it. Lenovo did publish repairs for many models of their laptops, but mine didn't ever get the repair. Sad

And for the paranoid:
There has been some talk about some hard-drive manufacturers hiding a wireless chip in the HDD, that could be used in stealing data from machines that are not connected to the internet. Apparently the potential thief would have to get within a few hundred meters of the device. Scary. How could you check against that kind of threats?
71  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: About lost bitcoins on: May 28, 2019, 10:05:07 AM
Hi teknonix I had a situation similar as I lost about 2 to 5,000 btc but I still have my wallet file. Is there anyway you can help me get my bitcoin back. I can give you tip . Please say.
If your problem is related to change addresses, I can help you. I am able to recover the lost change addresses in the core wallet.

In fact there is no need to back up the wallet.dat after each transaction. If the change addresses are missing, there is a way to solve it.

Today it is easy to get the change addresses and every other address from your backup, but and it is a big BUT...

...In the old days wallets weren't deterministic. Meaning, it was impossible to derive the next keys from your wallet backup.
When the core needed more addresses, it generated them randomly (not deterministically like now) and if you lose those randomly generated addresses there is no way to generate the same keys again later.

Actually the 8999BTC, that you mentioned, are the reason that inspired the development of deterministic wallets that we use now.  So that the same wouldn't happen to anyone ever again.

PS. The 8999 coins will forever stay in the address 167ZWTT8n6s4ya8cGjqNNQjDwDGY31vmHg
72  Other / Off-topic / Re: I Am stupid like a potato. Please help me on: May 16, 2019, 02:27:55 PM
IF when I sent some btc to my friend 0.08179 btc was equal to 500 euros, how much was the btc price?

I tried with a simple proportion like 0.08179:500=1:x, but seems it'not right, and I feel stupid like a potato. Normally even if I don't do it many times I can solve basic math problems without SO much pain, and this is  a very very simple one, but I am excruciating.

Like a potato, LOL. Haven't heard that one before.
Where we live we would say stupid like a shoe

cryptjh and BADecker already gave the right answers, but I want to add that your original answer was right too Smiley

your simple proportion 0.08179:500=1:x solves as:
x=500/0.08179 =6113,22€, which is the correct answer.

proportions are "easier" to solve when you put the x as a numerator (above the line)
eg:
500/0.08179=x/1 => x=1*500/0.08179

73  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Half of any bitcoin (crypto) public key - (public key half) in Python on: May 08, 2019, 03:17:28 PM
The forum I got the information on is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4455904.0
Thanks for the link Smiley

What it says is true. You can get "half" of a public key.

But What I wrote above is also correct. The "half" can be half way towards zero, or half way to max value depending if the point is "odd" or "even"
74  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Half of any bitcoin (crypto) public key - (public key half) in Python on: May 08, 2019, 02:52:19 PM
I know from reading another forum that a public key in bitcoin is a point P. To do P/2, you multiply 12 to P where 12 is the multiplicative inverse of 2 in Zn. It is an integer that can be found using the extended...

My question is how would I code this in python?
I see what you are trying to do Smiley

You can indeed halve a point, BUT, and it is a big BUT, halving a point does not work as you would expect.
Because halving an odd and an even "point" behave differently.

For example. Let us work in field of numbers mod 17. (Where multiplicative inverse of 2 is 9)
if you divide point 8 by 2 you get 4 as you would expect,
but if you divide 9 by 2 you will get 13 (which is 4+1/2, which is 4+9 )

Or more simply:
If you divide any even number you will end up half way between that number and 0 and if you divide any odd number you will end up half way between than number and 17

This example is with numbers mod 17, but fields with "points" work exactly the same way. All fields of the same order are isomorphic. (=the same)

When it comes to bitcoin and finding the private key from public key by dividing by 2 until you get to the generator G, in this example G=1. Which is what I assume you want to do  Wink
Using the above example, lets try to find 1 by dividing 7 repeatedly by 2, (all calculations done mod 17)
Code:
7/2 mod 17=12
12/2=6
6/2=3
3/2=10
10/2=5
5/2=11
11/2=14
14/2=7
7/2=12
... and so on ...
In this case you will never get to one. With some other numbers you would of-course reach one, but dividing by 2 wont make it any faster than brute forcing

To sum up. dividing by 2 wont help you in getting the private key from the public key, unless you can also tell which point is "even" and which is "odd".

And how to code the point multiplication in python?
The easiest way is to use a free math program called sagemath. It uses python, but has all the required functions already in it. Sage understands, big numbers, elliptic curves, finite fields and so on. To multiple a point in sage is as easy as this: 123456*G
But first you have to tell it what curve you are using and what is your generator
Sage is easy to use, but you need to study it a bit before you can use it.

PS. You do not have to use Euclidean algorithm to find what is the multiplicative inverse of 2 in any finite field. 1/2 is always (n+1)/2, where "n" is the order of the curve (= number of points )

I think main problem Boeing 737 this model maximum problem, I think need to be banned for worldwide  I do not want anyone else to lose any of his family members.

This was an older version of 737, one of the worlds most famous and safest planes.
Not the new infamous 737 MAX, which is currently banned worldwide.

76  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Recovery Passphrase on: May 01, 2019, 11:42:20 AM
If you do not know from which places the words are missing, or the order of the words, it is unlikely you will be able to recover the addresses.

However, if you know that it is the last 4 words that are missing and the order of the first eight is correct, then it is possible to recover everything.
77  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Deep Dive Into Bitcoin's Scarcity on: April 22, 2019, 02:03:00 PM
Nowadays scarcity is a relative concept.

If exchanges are using fractional banking, and I believe some of them are, then there is an unlimited amount of "paper bitcoins"

Fractional banking is an accepted and "legal" practice in banks, so why would they not be using it  in exchanges too.
78  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Switching to polyphasic sleep, has anyone done it and can I meditate for a cycle on: March 30, 2019, 12:23:37 PM
Thanks I did think that might be an issue. There are other plans where you sleep 30.minutes 4 times a day which seems a bit more reasonable.

According to what I read a long time ago, the more times you sleep in a day the less the total amount can be, For 4 times a day you  would probably need more than 30 min/each.

It is really interesting, that there are working alternatives to the normal sleeping pattern.

The biggest problems with this are social. When you do this, you will be off/sync with the rest of the world. Eg. you should be quiet during the night to not create problems with others (family&neighbours). And work/school do not usually make it possible for you to go to sleep during the work day.

For students it is great. you can  study at night without disturbing others.
79  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Switching to polyphasic sleep, has anyone done it and can I meditate for a cycle on: March 29, 2019, 04:40:04 PM

I've recently discovered things like the uberman cycle and other polyphasic sleep cycles that might be more ideal for me to try and people have good experience of it

I also found on duckduck that meditation can replace sleep. Would it be possible therefore for me to meditate through 2 25 minute cycles (it takes me a couple of minutes to enter the trance) and sleep the other 4?

Years ago I tried polyphasic sleep, and it did work. (kind of Smiley )

What I did was 15 min sleep every 3 hours, which makes just 2 hours of sleep in a day!
I tried it for a little less than a week, and it really worked. The idea was that you will never GET TIRED, because you have a little sleep every 3 hours, and since you never do get tired you also do not need a full night sleep. Actually it felt like you HAVE TO go to sleep all the time.

But what is interesting in your post is that you talk about meditation, which is what I did if I didn't succeed in falling asleep quickly enough. And it does work, although real sleep is better

I used silva meditation, which is a bit deeper than "normal" meditation, and an added bonus is that silva also teaches how to get to the meditative state quickly....

The reason why I  said it "kind of" worked, was that I tried it for almost a week, but it ended when I "accidentally" slept a full nights sleep and woke up a little before midnight Sad  Totally screwing up my normal day/night rhythm. Took weeks getting it right again  Tongue Tongue
80  Other / Off-topic / Re: Phobia on: March 15, 2019, 08:20:58 AM
Phobia is an advanced stage of continuous and intense fear of a certain thing
Do you have a phobia or fear of something?
I  HAD a phobia.
Losing it was the best thing ever Wink

I'm grown up but I still have this kind of fear, this has been built when I was a kid and I just can't overcome it.
You newer know. It was the same with me.
Anything can happen.
