61  Economy / Speculation / Re: Got a bitcoin price prediction for 2014? on: December 10, 2013, 11:48:27 PM
The CEO of OneID says he could see bitcoin going up 100 to 1,000 times on MarketWatch: http://blogs.marketwatch.com/thetell/2013/12/09/bitcoin-prices-could-swell-1000-times-once-grandma-knows-about-it/

At least he has the guts to throw some numbers out there, I guess...
62  Economy / Speculation / Got a bitcoin price prediction for 2014? on: December 10, 2013, 07:50:35 PM
One year ago bitcoin was at $14. Today, it's at $972. That's about 70 times higher than it was to start the year. Where do you think bitcoin will be at by next Christmas?

If it kept up the same trajectory, it'd be at $68K!

66  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / POLL: Hey bitcoiner, how OLD are you? on: November 30, 2013, 04:47:17 PM
By popular request, I'm changing my forum post to a poll!
67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you know anyone in the REAL WORLD who has bought bitcoin? on: November 30, 2013, 02:57:26 PM
Not a single one in real life. How surprising is that!

Crazy isn't it? It amazes me how conservative people are...
68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hey bitcoiner, how OLD are you? on: November 30, 2013, 02:55:08 PM
Quite a few 30-somethings! And a handful of 40-somethings and 50-somethings. I'm impressed!
69  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hey bitcoiner, how OLD are you? on: November 30, 2013, 03:57:56 AM
Looks like I'm the senior citizen so far at 33!
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hey bitcoiner, how OLD are you? on: November 30, 2013, 03:43:51 AM
In another thread, someone mentioned that he knew of a 17-year-old who started buying bitcoin at 14 cents... That made me wonder how old people are on here? Mostly young people? I'm 33...

I'd say that the mix is about 70% young people (17-30) and 30% older people, as I feel that Bitcoin has a tendency to attract younger people with a more open mind and attitude. Conventionally, older people have trouble adapting to new paradigms hence why I'm leaning on a younger average bitcoin population.

Where's that put you? Older? Younger?

I'm guessing this forum's probably skewing older than something like Reddit, too.
71  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Total alternative currency inflows/market cap on: November 30, 2013, 03:38:33 AM
So, the alternative currency market shrank today... I suppose it couldn't keep doubling every few days!

I'm also showing 5 confirmations (took 30 minutes from BTC deposit).

How long until the account is credited on Crypsty?

I've had it take up to two hours before...
74  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Name something you've actually BOUGHT with bitcoin on: November 29, 2013, 04:14:07 PM
Just created a bunch of paper wallets to give away millibitcoins for the holidays! I'm counting it  Smiley
75  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you know anyone in the REAL WORLD who has bought bitcoin? on: November 29, 2013, 04:11:30 PM
FYI: I guess I can now claim to have "bought" something with bitcoin since I created a bunch of paper wallets, and I'm going to give bitcoin to friends and family for Christmas. I'll now know lots of people who have bitcoin! Hopefully some of them will buy something with them.
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Total alternative currency inflows/market cap on: November 29, 2013, 05:32:13 AM
I'm going to update this thread occasionally with the latest market cap (i.e. total value in USD) of the top 35 alternative currencies (excluding bitcoin). That should give everyone an idea of how much the alternative currency market is growing (or shrinking).

ALL ALTERNATIVE CURRENCIES
11/29/13 12:29 a.m. (Eastern): $1,371,788,169
11/27/13 8:36 p.m. (Eastern): $1,164,829,871
11/26/13 8:38 p.m. (Eastern): $680,766,238

RIPPLE
11/29/13 12:29 a.m. (Eastern): $2,983,286,973
11/27/13 8:36 p.m. (Eastern): $2,409,578,372
11/26/13 8:55 p.m. (Eastern): $2,868,305,962

The alt-currency market has grown 17 percent in the past day. Not bad for a holiday. Happy Thanksgiving all!
77  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you know anyone in the REAL WORLD who has bought bitcoin? on: November 29, 2013, 03:42:42 AM
I know literally hundreds of people that use Bitcoin regularly and have met many of the big names in the community at several of the conventions. I’m from the SF Bay Area though and people are pretty tech savvy and trendy here so maybe that doesn’t count.

Yeah, I figured SF would have a huge community relative to the rest of the country. We need to find a way to spread those vibes outside the cultural epicenters faster!
78  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The first alternative currency to hit $1 million? Bitbars on: November 29, 2013, 03:39:01 AM
There's a saying in the investing community: "a rising tide lifts all ships." If that's the case -- all other factors being equal -- then the rarer coins will ultimately rise higher in value because they're not as diluted. I definitely don't think there's anything better about bitbars than litecoin, but on a percentage basis, I could see it rising higher percentage-wise over time.

I will say that I like other coins better, though...

The alternative currency market has grown 75 percent in 24 hours and now exceeds $1 billion!
80  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the fastest way to deposit money to buy bitcoins? on: November 28, 2013, 01:31:42 AM
You don't understand... I already have a lot of money. I could invest 100,000 euros right now in cryptocurrencies... but I'm not even able to deposit 50 euros on the exchange sites, just to see if it works.

I don't want to use my imagination, I simply want to pay, trade, and withdraw quickly with benefits. This seems impossible in the current bitcoin economy. Mtgox and other exchanges may be the only places in the world that are unwilling to swallow my money! Hence I question the reality of the current bubble.

I don't think you're alone, which is why I think BTC is going to go up even faster once it's easier to acquire.
