61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is how easy it is to accept Bitcoin donations - my little showcase on: January 20, 2013, 05:18:14 PM
Edit: I just placed a bounty on Rugatu to get this translated into many more languages, 100mBtc reward for every one.

http://www.rugatu.com/questions/6222/translate-into-your-language

Awesome, thanks a lot! 5 languages have already been submitted. I will add them soon, might have to tweak the layout a bit first to make all of them look good.

It seems that I have three different Spanish translations to choose from. Any opinions on which one is better? Number 1, number 2 or number 3?

Also, if anyone wants to help translate the page, simply quote this message and replace all text (to the right of the colon). So far I only have English and Swedish.

Code:
"selectedlanguage": "English",
"header": "Accept Bitcoin donations today!",
"lead": "Actually, you'll be set up in just a minute, it's that simple. Press the print button below to print the page. Cut along the dashed line and save the lower part in a safe place. Put the upper part up on a wall. You're done.",
"printbutton": "Print",
"learnmorebutton" : "Learn more",
"printpagetitle" : "We accept<br/>Bitcoin donations",
"printpagetitletooltip" : "Click to change this text",
"btcaddresslabel" : "To donate, please scan the QR code to the left or send bitcoins to the following address:",
"btcaddresslabeltooltip" : "Click to change this text",
"generatelabelbitcoinaddress" : "A brand new Bitcoin address is being generated for you!",
"generatelabelmovemouse" : "Please move your mouse around to add some extra randomness to the generation process...",
"publicareaintro" : "Bitcoin is a digital currency, available to everyone, everywhere in the world. It is open source and decentralized, not controlled by any single entity. It can be sent between individuals without involvement of banks or credit card companies. Transactions are practically instant and with very low fees, often completely free.",
"publicareaintrotooltip" : "Click to change this text",
"publicareafooter" : "Receiving Bitcoin donations is easy! You'll be ready to go in less than a minute at: http://accept.bitcoin.se",
"singlelabelprivatekey" : "This is your private key. It is the key to your money, the <i>only</i> way to retrieve your money, so make sure you keep it safe. Your private key is represented here in two different formats. To the left as a QR code and below in the \"wallet import format\" that can be used to import your key into various online or desktop wallets.",
"privateareainfo" : "If you want to check the current balance of your address, go to <a href='http://www.blockchain.info'>www.blockchain.info</a> and search for your Bitcoin address (<b>not</b> the private key, always keep the private key to yourself, the Bitcoin address is the one in the upper part of this page).",
"whatisbitcointitle" : "What is Bitcoin?",
"whatisbitcointext" : "Bitcoin is a digital currency, available to everyone, everywhere in the world. It is open source and decentralized, not controlled by any single entity. It can be sent between individuals without involvement of banks or credit card companies. Transactions are practically instant and with very low fees, often completely free. Learn more about Bitcoin on <a href='http://www.weusecoins.com'>weusecoins.com</a> or ask a question on <a href='http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com'>Bitcoin StackExchange</a>.",
"payingfeestitle" : "Do I have to pay any fees?",
"payingfeestext" : "As the receiver of a transaction you never have to pay any fees. The person who sends the funds <i>sometimes</i> has to pay a small fee, but with Bitcoin the fee actually is <b>small</b>, as in a few cents.",
"isthissafetitle" : "Is this safe?",
"isthissafetext" : "Everything on this page is executed in <b>your own web browser</b> using javascript. Your Bitcoin address and private key was generated by <b>your computer</b> and has <b>not been shared</b> with any other computer or human being. (You can even download this page and use it on an offline computer.) If you keep your private key safe, your money is safe.",
"iwantrealmoneytitle" : "But I want \"real\" money!",
"iwantrealmoneytext" : "Well, first of all, Bitcoin <i>is</i> real money. Consider using your bitcoins to buy stuff from one of all the <a href='https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade#Online_products'>merchants</a> that accept Bitcoin. If you still decide that you want to convert your bitcoins to dollars or some other currency there are a number of ways to do that too. Check out this <a href='https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade#Currency_exchanges'>list of exchanges</a>.",
"howdoiusebitcointitle" : "How do I use my bitcoins?",
"howdoiusebitcointext" : "In order to use your bitcoins you need to import your private key to a wallet. There are many different wallets, some that you download and run on your own computer and some that are web based. The simplest way is probably to create a <a href='https://blockchain.info/wallet'>wallet on blockchain.info</a> and to then select \"Import / Export -> Import Private Key\". In just a couple of minutes you'll be ready to send your bitcoins to anyone, anywhere in the world.",
"pleasedonate" : "Please donate if you like this page:",
"pleaseenternewtext" : "Please enter some new text:"

Updated:
 * Added info on how to import private key
 * Removed Google Analytics code so that no external Javascript is loaded
 * Made it possible to change some of the text on the printout (for example, try to click on the title)

I'd like to follow the example of bitaddress.org and sign the hash of the page. A question regarding this though. Is there any reason to include the hash in the filename like bitaddress.org does? It is my understanding that you want to validate the page against the hash in the signed message anyway, not against the hash you see in the filename. Am I right or did I misunderstand something?
64  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is how easy it is to accept Bitcoin donations - my little showcase on: January 16, 2013, 09:14:36 PM
Thanks for all the nice feedback!

May I suggest one thing for your website? You should explain how to import the private key to bitcoin wallets such as Blockchain.

Maybe you could say something like: "After you've collected donations, you just need to import the private key to a Bitcoin wallet application, such as Blockchain and you'll be able to spend that money or exchange it for your local currency, such as dollars or euros".

Edit: You could also say that "the private key is like a long pin number that gives you access to the money that was sent to your address". I don't really know but I feel that it's easier to understand if you say pin number when it comes to withdrawing money.

Good ideas. I'll think about exactly how to phrase those things. I wanna keep it as simple as possible to get people focused on getting started. Most people will receive very little in Bitcoin donations anyway so they shouldn't worry too much about how to use or exchange them before they actually have that problem. Still, you are right, it should be mentioned.

Small print under the address section: "Receive donations using Bitcoin you too."  Doesn't make sense.

Under "But I want 'real' money!": "there are number of ways" -> "there are a number of ways".

Thanks. The first one is something that sounds good in Swedish, bad translation by me. I changed it to "Receiving Bitcoin donations is easy! You'll be ready to go...".

Fixed!

A while ago I watched this video about Swedbank's and MasterCard's plans to make Sweden a cashless society. There was a scene with a church showing off their "kollektomat", simply a terminal where you can make a donation using your credit card instead of making the traditional cash donation.

It got me thinking about how much the church might have paid MasterCard for that terminal and how much of their donations that are now shared with MasterCard. So, I thought that there should be a way to show people how incredibly easy it would be for them to start accepting Bitcoin donations, and that's why I made this:

http://accept.bitcoin.se

It is based on the code from bitaddress.org, so big thanks to them! It's currently available in English and Swedish, let me know if you wanna translate it to some other language.

I'll have a go at the Swedish translation. Sent you a PM Ben.
67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin.org and weusecoins.com in other languages on: January 08, 2013, 07:30:08 PM

All any site needs to do is add the following:

http://translate.google.com/manager/website/?hl=en

This will make all the site's pages available in 60+ languages. All the user has to do is select their language from a drop down box. The only drawbacks I see are that I don't know about the quality of all translations, and users have to know to use the drop box.

Google translate still leaves a lot to be desired, it screws up grammar in Spanish, German and French all the time, you should probably only use it to translate from other languages to english... I can only imagine the mess it might make from English to Chinese. Still... it's better than nothing.

Yeah, an automatic translation can make an otherwise professional website look extremely amateurish. It could be better than nothing but then you should probably make your reader aware of the fact that it is an automatic translation and that you know that it is of low quality.
68  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Financial Supervisory Authority in Sweden consider Bitcoin a "means of payment" on: December 11, 2012, 07:13:01 PM
you cannot buy/sell them as a business without being registered and licensed
That's a quite dubious claim

They actually made it very clear that you do not need a license. You do need to register your business with them but this is a much simpler process than getting a license.
69  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Financial Supervisory Authority in Sweden consider Bitcoin a "means of payment" on: December 11, 2012, 08:53:56 AM
Yes, that makes legal sense, that if you want to operate a bitcoin-fiat exchange service you have to comply with AML/KYC/PSP rules and so forth. That much isn't news, at least.

See my other post above. It is certainly not news that you need to comply with AML rules when running an exchange that keeps client funds but what is news (at least to me) is that you need to do it when your business is simply buying/selling bitcoins.
70  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Financial Supervisory Authority in Sweden consider Bitcoin a "means of payment" on: December 11, 2012, 08:50:22 AM
As far as I understand, this swedish decision is similar to the french Mt Gox / Credit Mutuel case : it's about keeping deposits in euros belonging to your clients, and the need to be a registered PSP to do so. I'm not sure it's about having to register in order to sell/buy bitcoints.

No, actually this was different. The question here was just about buying/selling bitcoins, not about keeping client funds (in fiat). That is the news to me and it is contrary to what they told me a year ago.
71  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Financial Supervisory Authority in Sweden consider Bitcoin a "means of payment" on: December 10, 2012, 09:05:16 PM
Could you please explain (if the information is available to you of course) on what grounds this financial authority bases its decision ?
Particularly, is the decision rooted in european laws ? That would be interesting to know for other european countries. Thanks !

It wasn't me who got the reply from the Financial Authorities so I don't have all the details but I have received some additional information. First of all, they clarified that they don't consider Bitcoin a currency so you are not doing currency exchanging. Still, you need to be under the supervision of the authority (basically, they make sure that you follow AML rules) and you need to pay an annual fee for this. From what I understand that is because of this EU directive (which I haven't read).
72  Bitcoin / Legal / Financial Supervisory Authority in Sweden consider Bitcoin a "means of payment" on: December 08, 2012, 11:24:45 AM
A few days ago I wrote on bitcoin.se (in Swedish) about a reply from the Financial Supervisory Authority where they consider Bitcoin to be a "means of payment" (I don't know what the correct English term for that is). Anyway, what this means is that if you want to run a business that buys/sells bitcoins you now have to register with the authority and get their approval.

My hope is that this will make things clearer regarding the VAT situation. If the financial authorities consider it a means of payment it should be hard for the tax authorities to consider it an "electronic service" that is subject to VAT (as they have previously stated). I haven't yet gotten any new information from the tax authorities regarding this though.
73  Other / Meta / Re: Mining - transaction validation / issuance of bitcoins on: December 08, 2012, 11:05:36 AM
A strong case can be made against the word mining that Satoshi chose to use for transaction validation / issuance of new bitcoins

To be fair I don't think that Satoshi chose that word. He did make an anology to gold miners in the paper but the menu option in the client was "generate coins" if I remember correctly. I tried to find the first use of the term "mining" in this question on StackExchange, feel free to add more info there.

Sorry, that was perhaps a bit off-topic, consider it a friendly bump. Smiley

This is awesome. OP, would you allow us to reuse the picture? I would like to write about it on bitcoin.se.
78  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: bitinstant paycard on: November 04, 2012, 08:18:25 AM
After "THE September announcement" and "Bitinstant paycard" everyone should be a bit more cautionous with self-imposed deadlines.. ;-)

For the record, Bitcoin Foundation was announced in September, just as promised.
79  Other / Meta / Re: Moved topics on: November 03, 2012, 01:20:00 PM
Could we also remove the "new" button from those lines? There is always just one post so it doesn't fill any purpose and it makes the line stand out a bit more than it needs to.
80  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BITCOIN MAGAZINE ARRIVED! on: October 28, 2012, 11:25:35 AM
Overall I'm happy with the magazine but don't forget the proofreading guys!

This comment makes me wonder what would it take for you to not be happy with the magazine, pretty or otherwise.

Well, I didn't have very high expectations to begin with. Creating a "professional" magazine, publishing it monthly and delivering it world wide is no easy task. It's not a big media company that started this, it's a few guys who had never done it before. I did not order a 12 month subscription since I thought that there was a substantial risk that 12 issues would never happen and I also thought that it would be incredibly hard to fill a monthly magainze with quality articles related to Bitcoin.

That said, I really want to encourage initiatives like this 'cause I think that it's great for Bitcoin. I'm happy to point out what can be improved but in general there is just too much negativity on this forum. I'm impressed with a lot of what they've done and I like to focus on that.
