61  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Simplest way to buy bitcoin in the US? on: January 07, 2014, 05:55:57 AM
So Virvox worked, but only up to $100... Thanks jonanon - fees are very high but at least it worked.

Coinbase gives me an "Address did not match" error for my new visa card no matter how many variations of the address I try, they even have an FAQ on that. Emailed their support. Placed another order for a couple of coins...

I  feel really weird about going to a bank with a bundle of cash for Localbitcoins. It just feels so unlike what the cryptocurrency transactions are supposed to be about.

I guess the currency is so liquid that everyone is trying to cover their ass...
62  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: CEX.IO please give some hints. on: January 06, 2014, 06:50:22 PM
The only thing it needs is successful trading, but if we all were good at it most of the time we'd be filthy rich and talk about the DOW/NYSE instead of cex.io Wink

Heh. See what you mean. So I've lost my first couple of bucks on a couple of trades. I see the benefits of the platform because it allows people to practice trading with negligible risk.

Another dumb question. I couldn't figure out what is the best way to calculate the buy orders. Sell orders are easy because you see how many GHs you have. With buy orders I kind of had to bring up a calculator and see how many GHs I can afford - is there an easier way of doing it?

Thank you.

I am very sad because heard about crypto world too late.
My top grafic card that i bought in 2010 - now not so strong for mining, hell, i wish i knew about mining in 2010-2011.
however, i am started mining some day ago and i hope to upgrade my pc with moneys from mining, hope that my pc doesn't die from 24/7 mining. lol
don't have extra money to do upgrade immediatly, so only hope old card will work until i get new card.
Old card will help me to buy new card? unbelievable ))
only must choose right coins to mine..

Cheer up guys, it's NOT too late!

Mass adoption is not there yet: you still can't fund your PayPal account with BTC, you still can't exchange BTC/USD on institutional platforms, you still can't checkout your Amazon order with BTC, etc. BUT IT'S COMING!

As an early adopter, I would simply suggest any newbie here to buy or mine at least 1 BTC. I'm pretty sure it will get you at least a nice sports car in a few years.

*MARK MY WORDS*

Wink If the consumer confidence is still there it might happen. Not that I need a sports car. But imagine there are only 240 mil of something available and there are 9 billion people on the planet or whatever who want to buy it. People keep multiplying at a much higher rate than bitcoin.

coinbase is easy...

coinbase isn't easy for me. Still waiting for a visa card to authenticate myself. Plus - the followup authentication uses some sort of a system that some credit card companies use - they ask questions about what information was associated with my address from 15 years ago, what was the year of my Harley Davidson that was totalled 10 years ago, which color it was, when I bought it and so forth - I can't even look it up because it locks me out for 24 hours... Never mind the phone # and the instant messages, the social security number, birthday,  all of that... Am I blacklisted by the FSA or something?
65  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ButterflyLabs ACH Option no longer available on: January 05, 2014, 05:04:15 AM
what's that mean

Bank transfer is several days faster than ACH so you can use the money right away. Bitcoin transfer is instantanious and they get to hold on to bitcoin while the rate goes up so they make money while the buyer loses money - and "eventually" they ship the product - who knows how profitable it will be by the time they ship it.

That's my newbie take on this. It's just there are so many people like us (maybe I should speak for myself) who want to buy into it that the vendors can do whatever they want.

66  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Simplest way to buy bitcoin in the US? on: January 05, 2014, 04:46:04 AM
Thanks jonanon. Yes the fees are high ($ to SSL, SSL to BTC...) and they restrict you to $100 or so. Plus, because it's a new account there's a manual verification procedure :
"While most Bitcoin withdrawals are processed instantly, we manually check some of them for security reasons (for example of new accounts). They will be processed within 48 hours. You will receive an email confirmation when the withdrawal has been processed."

WTF? Localcoins offers on the lower end require you to physically go to a bank (imagine that?) with some cash in hand...

Plus, I was kind of surprised there was a coin dedicated to Second Life. Maybe for 23,276.25 SLL I could buy a decent life cause my current one kind of sucks, freaking karma. Next incarnation should be much better if everything goes as planned.

67  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ButterflyLabs ACH Option no longer available on: January 05, 2014, 04:01:42 AM
At least it still has a bank transfer option.

For mining contracts they only accept bitcoin now. I tried to use ACH a couple of days ago to preorder a contract and none of my 3 bank accounts were accepted by them - all of them regular US checking accounts. I emailed their tech support and didn't receive any reply.

I guess there's so much buying pressure they are looking for easy ways to maximize the profits (get all the cryptocurrency and fiat currency they can NOW as opposed to several days later and put it to work).

On a more serious note I haven't read on economics since college and I would be very interested in the contemporary state of anarchist economics. It seems to be a very interesting time for that.
69  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: So whose your favourite economist? on: January 05, 2014, 03:11:20 AM
Maybe not Keiser however I think Владимир Ильич Ленин had a good point about the economism plus he said :"The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them"

Mr Ulyanov aka Lenin sure stocked up on that rope because bolsheviks killed not only the capitalists but a large percentage of the rest of the country with them, including most other Marxists. And then they had more rope for export.

Alright I'll try it again. That was a pain in the butt. But It finally loaded to where you can see them. The first image is with the patcher in the back ground hashing along at mid 400s. The second one I've turned the patcher off and it slows down to 180s. I turn it back on in the third and it goes back up to 400s. The only changes made to the computer between screen shots is the patcher being turned on and off no other programs or settings were touched. This doesn't work on my laptops NVidia 460m card.

Yes that's what I tried but no it doesn't work as straightforward on my card. I guess it's too old. Good info though, I'm sure some Nvidia users would give it a try.

I studied economics in college back in Russia while it was still under communism. So I've heard of a guy named Karl Marx. I didn't get much of what he was writing about. Something about exploitation and how private property is bad for you. Smiley Babylon must fall kind of theory.
72  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Simplest way to buy bitcoin in the US? on: January 04, 2014, 07:50:58 AM
I was trying to buy half a BT a couple of times on coinbase. First order was cancelled. Then I received an email saying that my bank account was verified. Then I placed the second order and it got cancelled too. So I'm waiting for my new visa card any day now.

Bitcoiner222 - what does this mean: "Credit Card and Paypal: Currently there is for that payment method only one amount (49,50€) possible, you will receive 38,67$ in BTC." and, like, why?

I'll try Localcoin again if there is no simpler way.
73  Other / Beginners & Help / Simplest way to buy bitcoin in the US? on: January 04, 2014, 07:37:05 AM
My orders were twice rejected by coinbase as high risk. I ordered a new visa credit card to try and authenticate myself for them (they don't accept anything other than visa - no discover no amex no debit visa cards).

My MtGox authentication is "20 business days" pending, up from the original 10 days.

Most promising Localbitcons ads use OKPAY which does not work for US (I'm not even an American, I just live here, so I don't have utility bills from other countries...).

Where the hell can I get bitcoins from , securely and relatively fast?

Oh no. khash obviously. That was a typo.
75  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How many newbies are mining? on: January 03, 2014, 07:09:45 PM
Sorry took my screen shots but can't figure out how to upload them to the site the image button only does this.

Thanks foader, I figured it out last night. It's weird, the games (I tried both) do seem to affect cudaminer, although I didn't get a drastic increase. Which switches are you using to launch it? It was hard to make it run because it was crashing a lot. But then it went to a bit over 70 MH - before it was a bit over 60 (it's an old 550 Ti). Weird. 140 to 600 is kind of spectacular though. I've noticed the Sony game was installing some additional graphics components, maybe it makes a big difference for newer cards.

Not sure which brand yet as there is still unbelievably little stock in the UK, so it will be whatever I can get. Just built an open frame 'carpenters PC'  Cheesy so will be filling that with 6 of these bad boys.

Not only in the US - worldwide. I bet AMD are scratching their heads, this might be the best thing that happened to them since who knows when, Thunderbird or something.

BTW, why most rigs are open frame? The conventional wisdom in my old PC building days was that the airflow inside an aluminum box reduces the heat considerably compared to components just sitting outside with their own fans.

I've also fired up cudaminer on my gtx780 in my regular comp and it pulls around 400-600khs oddly enough this is only when I have an online game patching screen opened in the back ground. If I don't have it up before I start it it only hashes at around 140.

Could you elaborate on that? I would love to speed up my cudaminer....  However it does sound very suspicious. Online game patching screen?

I used cudaminer and minerd to learn how it works. Have a couple of Radeons on order to mine Litecoin and heat up the apartment for the next several months. And will probably get a nice Lian-Li full tower while I'm at it.

79  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: CEX.IO please give some hints. on: January 03, 2014, 06:57:45 AM
One more question - are there any other tools to look at the CEX.IO market other than the graphs on it's site?

It seems by looking at the chat that traders react faster than anything you can actually see on the site. They would be like "here it goes" and sure enough here something goes, but several minutes later.

They also talk about walls and the size of them - I couldn't figure out where they get the size information. And some of the "walls" are so small you can't even see them on the depth chart.

Plus - what the hell is a whale? A very rich investor buying tons of GH (in this case) for unreasonable prices?

Thanks,

prolom.

I have submitted documents copies 3 days ago. First it said I had to wait 10 business days. Now it says I have to wait 20 business days. Whatever that means. I'm  Brooklyn US based if it matters.
