61  Economy / Speculation / Re: MMM the reason for this explosion? on: November 02, 2015, 06:11:23 PM
This guy said the MMM ponzi declared "pause mode" (freeze withdrawals) a few days ago. Have they reopened withdrawals, or are they still blocked? It's difficult getting information about it by Googling. All ponzis collapse at the end of the day, and I'd like to be forewarned about the time the MMM ponzi will collapse.

I don't know what they are talking about, but I'm sure they funding MMM ponzi through btcchina

BTW, today founder of mmm ponzi Sergey Mavrodi declared "pause mode" (freeze withdrawals) in mmm Russia until NY.

62  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where have all the trolls gone? on: October 24, 2015, 07:38:09 PM
Thankfully NotLambChop got banned. I think other bear trolls stop posting after proclaiming the price will crash then watching it soar upwards. I noticed a few impending crash proclamations on the way up but they are drying up now. The last one I spotted proclaimed $272 as the top and advised everyone to go short there.  Roll Eyes
63  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN IS STILL FAMOUS on: October 24, 2015, 05:43:08 PM
The rally to $1100 put Bitcoin in the spotlight and made most people aware of it. Plenty of people started using it, but it's still not mainstream. Most people are now aware of it but don't use it yet. They might start using it now the EU has decided exchange users shouldn't pay VAT, China is relaxing its attitude, and other areas of the rest of the world are officially accepting its use.
64  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 24, 2015, 01:14:08 PM
Will we hit 300$ ?

the real question is " will we go back to two hundreds, right after hitting 300$, or is it becoming an organic growth? "

The last rise has been slow and steady over two months. The Coinbase pump to $300 was incredibly fast, and the dump afterwards was also incredibly fast. The latest slow growth we had is probably sustainable because profit takers won't be so sure the price will crash if they dump. After the Coinbase pump it was obvious the price would crash so everyone dumped.
65  Economy / Speculation / Re: This steady rise is gonna continue till halving on: October 24, 2015, 01:06:27 PM
I don't think this rise is "the rise". We'll probably still have many months of little price movement, as we've seen the last couple months, a kind of staircase shape till the thing goes parabolic.

The last halving was priced in by the time it happened. The slow steady rise we have seen is probably the halving being slowly priced in long before it happens. I think you're right about expecting lots of little price movements pushing the price steadily upwards until the halving. There will be little ups and downs, but overall a steady price increase.
66  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Interledger - a W3C payment protocol proposal on: October 07, 2015, 01:49:49 PM
Wasn't Codius abandoned this last summer? What use to Ripple is a neutral protocol for payments on the Web if its smart contract system has been abandoned?

A neutral protocol for payments might work, but the W3C moves incredibly slowly when it makes or updates a standard. The crypto ecosystem evolves too quickly to wait for the W3C. A month in crypto is like a year in real time.
67  Other / Politics & Society / Re: SUCEFUL: Next-Gen ATM Malware Can Block Cards Inside ATMs on: September 15, 2015, 06:49:48 PM
I have no idea how this works but I see on that visual representation thingy that it says "Windows based application".
Are banking apps really running under Windows? whats the point? shouldn't they be using Linux for added security? Damn those guys are crazy. Do ATM machines have anti viruses installed or what?
I wish I knew about the traditional banking system as much as I do about Bitcoin (and I don't know much, but it sure helps being able to read the code because its open source..)

I don't know if banking apps run under Windows, but I know those high stakes gambling machines do. I once watched a repair technician fixing one, and I could see the windows system while he was doing it. Those things can take thousands of dollars of a single gambler in an hour, though they produce a winnings slip for big wins that you have to exchange for cash. ATMs probably use windows too.
68  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [OFFICIAL]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading on: September 15, 2015, 10:52:26 AM
What's address of create new ticket support? I can't found.
My withdraw USD pending 4 days not process.

Do you know they switched banks a few times lately? Some posts on the previous page are about the changes. It could take them some time to change their software to using a new bank account. That could be the reason for your delayed withdrawal. It's strange how they switched banks twice recently though.
69  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nick Szabo's Remarks about Bitcoin XT on: September 15, 2015, 10:29:17 AM
I've always been certain Szabo is Satoshi but even more convinced after hearing the pod-cast. He seems to go out of his way to refer to Satoshi in the third person. Also the fact that no-one really knows much about Szabo shows that here is an individual who is very careful about protecting his identity. I think also that Andreas knows that he is Satoshi - he's almost referential is his questions to Szabo.

So little is known about Szabo. How did Let's Talk Bitcoin know it really was Szabo they were talking to? I tried finding out more about him and kept hitting brick walls. I found about two very old pictures that may or may not have been Szabo. There were differences of opinion about where he used to work and what his qualifications were. His identity is almost as secret as Satoshi's.
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would be the consequences if Bitcoin went down to $200 or even $100? on: August 21, 2015, 09:40:07 AM
Last year there were people who claimed Bitcoin miners would all go bankrupt if the price dropped below $300. They said it was impossible for the price to go that low, and if it did it would be the end of Bitcoin. We have been below $300 for most of the last six months and the miners are still mining. We could go below $100 and enough miners would still be mining and keeping the network alive. The smallest miners would switch off while the difficulty dropped then stat up again.
71  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: so, whos buying? on: July 26, 2015, 12:29:21 AM
It doesn't seem like they will be buying many Bitcoins. The nasdaq press release says they will be working with chain.com

http://www.nasdaq.com/press-release/nasdaq-and-chain-to-partner-on-blockchain-technology-initiative-20150624-00446

The chain.com blog at http://blog.chain.com/ gives this link to their explanation of how they intend to use the blockchain

https://medium.com/investing-2-0/wall-street-meet-block-chain-b2747909eb90

They say they will use the Bitcoin blockchain to move assets but that they will only pay pennies worth of Bitcoin for each transaction.

Quote
Bitcoin is the oil in the machine. When creating or transferring a digital asset, you use a standard bitcoin transaction as the mechanism, which requires bitcoins to pay the fee that keeps the network secure. But very little bitcoin is needed for any given asset transaction. Even if the issuance or transfer involves billions of dollars of value, only pennies worth of bitcoin are used. It’s like a postage stamp on an envelope full of assets.

They also say they are looking at Stellar, Ripple, Side Chains, and ethereum to move assets when they have proved their reliability.

Quote
There are other open financial networks being designed and tested, and the financial cloud will likely interoperate with them as they prove out their security models in the years ahead. Prominent examples include Stellar, Ripple, Side Chains, and ethereum.

72  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ETH] Ethereum Observation Thread on: July 25, 2015, 10:16:05 PM
I think the price will start off initially high, then rapidly crash as people dump for profit. If the devs have given themselves big shares and they are short of money then they might also dump along with the investors. After the Bitshares IPO it went to the number 2 coin in price, then crashed heavily and is number 8 today. Ethereum might follow a similar path.
73  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 25, 2015, 05:28:29 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still scrapping over $290 I see.

Typical weekend low volume but at least we're still over $280 with a slight upward tendency. This is good.

Bitfinex: Wallmanipulation from 270$ to 277$.

How do you figure? explain

He probably means the gap with no buy orders shown by the yellow arrow. It was a nice evenly spaced run of buy orders, then that gap suddenly appeared with walls above and below it. The whole buy side looks artificial now, but the market is heavily manipulated by whales sometimes.

74  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin goes to 1200-1300 within a month. on: July 25, 2015, 04:04:47 PM
whats the update on this... is everything on track?

The OP says the month is not over yet, which suggests he still thinks we will be at 1200-1300 within six days. If he's right the price will have to go up 900+ dollars in less than a week, and I don't think its ever gone up that fast before. The November 2013 pump was close, but did it go up that high that quickly?

By the way, month is not over.
75  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Leak Shows That Hacking Team Targeted Cryptocurrency on: July 21, 2015, 05:05:36 AM
Quote
"Make no mistake about it, what happened earlier this summer in the attack on our company was a reckless and vicious crime," David Vincenzetti, CEO of Hacking Team, said in a statement on July 14.  "We have reported it to Italian authorities who are investigating, and we expect the authorities of other nations to be involved as well."

That's ironic, if their software uses zero day vulnerabilities to hack people's computers and Bitcoin wallets then isn't their software an illegal hacking tool? Selling their software sounds criminal, and anyone using it to hack Bitcoin wallets must be commuting a crime. Yes,the hackers who hacked Hacking Team committed a crime, but Hacking Team itself sounds like it's committing crimes.
76  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Huobi have crashed ? on: July 06, 2015, 10:25:35 PM
It might be due to the ninja stress test that's been running today. During a previous one blockchain.info kept crashing. Other exchanges are having problems, earlier today Bitfinex went offline. There are about ten thousand unconfirmed transactions. The Huobi wallets might be affected by them.
77  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we stress testing again? on: July 06, 2015, 10:03:52 PM
The whole of blockchain seems pretty stressed.... made a transaction from bitreserve this morning and it is still not even showing on blockchain.info... the funny thing is I made a transaction during last week stress too lol.. getting used to it now.. but buying a lot of litecoin as well... i think its looking like a good option now

I sent something from an exchange about four hours ago and it's been showing on blockchain.info for hours. The only problem is it's still unconfirmed. I think we'll be lucky if our transactions get confirmed by tomorrow. The stress testers are learning how to do more damage from each test.
78  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we stress testing again? on: July 06, 2015, 09:09:55 PM
I'm having the same problem. I withdrew from an exchange and couldn't tell them how much in transaction fees I wanted to pay. If I had known in advance I would have paid far more in fees to get my transaction processed fast. Blockchain.info said this every time I have checked for hours now.

Estimated Confirmation Time: Within 6 Blocks (Medium Priority)
79  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 06, 2015, 06:20:55 PM
Bitfinex is back up.

It's OK now, all my Bitcoins are still there, my withdrawal I submitted right before it went offline got processed, and all my orders are the same. Panic over, we can get back to normal trading now.
80  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 06, 2015, 03:41:49 PM
What might really drive the price up is the other EURO members refusing to pay debts and in anticipation of capital controls people buying BTC, spain, italy, etc.

Bitcoin searches going up in italy especially...

The Greek finance minister suggested they might start issuing digital IOUs to work together with their remaining Euros if their financial situation deteriorated more. Although he quickly retracted his statement, then resigned the idea must have been discussed at a high level. Bitcoins would be a great alternative to digital IOUs and ordinary Greeks might start using them if there are not enough Euro notes to go around. If the government endorsed their use the price could go extremely high.
