I just sent this note to  eric@idausa.org. I will let you know when I hear from him.

These are the types of initiatives I need the community to bring to us so that we can garner support.
Let's get focused on short sprints of high impact opportunities that we can focus the value of our Karma on.

The main story is listed here: http://koin.com/2014/02/03/enough-room-for-elephants-at-oregon-zoo/
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Eric,

I read about your efforts in the news and am interested in helping.
I represent a community that has created a virtual currency (much like Bitcoin) called Karmacoin.
We are interested in supporting your cause.  I was wondering what we can do to help
financially?  Do you have a specific initiative that we can support so that  you can achieve your result?

Very truly yours,
DEV

I think if we do this then people will associate "the coin with an elephant on it" as "the coin that helps elephants". We'd be painting ourselves into a corner.

There are so many initiatives around the world that we can help in. See http://www.globalgiving.org/

Every one is forgetting about a few basic questions, what's the purpose of Karma coin and where we can use it...? What distinguish this from every other billion coin...?

I've done branding for Unilever, Proctor & Gamble, and some of the biggest names in consumer products, have done PR for the biggest biotech firm, and this is the only logo I've seen that can take us above 20 satoshi (the top one, not the bottom one):

It isn't the best, but the only brandable one I've come across. It's simple, bright, cheery, and embodies the concept of what I think we're wanting to do.

The problem now is that we're wasting time deciding upon something that is quite easy.

1) design something

2) test it with your market

3) re-vamp design(s) based on comments of your TARGET MARKET

4) roll out new branding

We stop at #2, thinking that we don't need it. But where would any entity be without market research?

Hey jpeters, have you gotten feedback on this one?

Not an official survey. I would need to have a few logos for that. I chose that one based on my own experience. It's about 60% of where a good logo should be, but for this purpose it's good enough I think. The other logo (above, with the elephant) is ok but needs more color and less busy-ness.

This coin is done. Fighting within the community, major disagreements over the direction of the coin, major disagreements over the logo of the coin (that it is still an elephant even after all the rationale for the dharma wheel or lotus leaf is a major issue with me and why I dumped my 180 million earlier), no real prospects for the future that are actually attainable.

Face it lads, it has failed. No coin ever gets back up from 1 Satoshi without a MAJOR artificial pump from a scammer like Wolong. Mining is so easy right now it will always be dumped if it even hints at a rise. Nevermind, it was fun while it lasted - sorta.

Well, I've bought over 1 billion karma in the past few days and I assure you, this coin is definitely going somewhere. I probably bought all your Karma.

Take a look at the early Dogecoin threads. You'll see the same thing, except there was more community involvement because they found a way to have fun. We're still looking for ours.

Don't be fooled by the market price. That's a reflection of dumping.

Halving will be in 7 days or so. You will be eating your words in less than 2 months when we've surpassed 200 satoshi.

Anyone that knows about markets knows that there are only a few good altcoins to invest in. KARM is one of them. Buffett would surely buy it.

As for your "No coin ever gets back up from 1 Satoshi" statement, I don't know if that's true or not. But what I do know is that the number of altcoins has exploded in the past 2 months. And it's a young market. That means there will be "no coin has ever"-type statements every few days. Heck, take a look at what Auroracoin did yesterday (50% premine, yada yada).

Simple update on reddit with both pachyderms in header.
We can come back to the debate on Logos.....
Need volunteers to commit to initiatives.  We need to spread the strategy for this coin far and wide.

The person deciding on this needs to 1) ignore people without experience in design and marketing (unfortunately); 2) listen to people with experience in branding and marketing.

Firstly I don't see or feel any attachment of karma with an elephant!
I know its hindu buddhist crap, but if you Wikipedia the word karma, the pic should be a lotus flower or endless knot sort of thing.
Also the motto doing good is good, isn't karma. Its more like what goes around comes around or doing good things returns good things, or the law of cause and effect, etc.
You need to get this shit worked out!

"hindu buddhist crap".. no need to get offensive. Surely we can come up with a good design.

actually one of the main reason coins are fallign down is because btc is back to $700!!!

BTC is up in value. a lot of people retract their buy order and see if their btc will turn into 1 million. then after a few days , seeing that btc is stable will start investing in alto coins

Well, CoinMarket.io should be back up today from what their tweets have said.  Hopefully this is the last time we see 1 Satoshi.

They will likely never return. People have been saying it for weeks. (And I have been saying they will not be back up for 2 weeks)

75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Dear Karma community on: March 01, 2014, 04:03:50 PM
the Karma community needs a leading group
where are the leaders who can give us goals milestones and bring some chi and good karma to the Karmacoin. for example the media chanels like Twitter and Facebook have no activity for many days.
it seems like theres a big and great community here but there is defenatly a lack of leading team.

Well. Let's form one right now.

Where do we begin?

We want to do good things. If the foundation of our coin (the logo) is offensive to some or many, would this not go against the idea of the coin?

what are you talking about how is a wheel offensive to anyone? nobody is suggesting putting swastika or nuclear symbol on the coin .. jeez...

a wheel is no more symbolic than an elephant or a smiley face... all the wheel represents is movement along a path... a path which hopefully most people would like to share..

yes I agree I would be concerned if someone wanted to put a masonic symbol or something with a hidden agenda on the coin... but cmon man lighten up and actual read what Dharma wheels are all about before you go saying they are symbols of any particular religion.

If you say so.

But please let me know when you've asked the people for whom the dharma wheel means something significant.

Relax, man. It's Karmacoin.

You don't have to like or approve of the Dharma wheel logos friend, but don't let's start calling it offensive when it has been stamped on coins all over Asia for hundreds of years - it is no more or less offensive than Yin Yang or the lotus leaf, all of which have religious meaning.

Put it to the vote. The Dharma Wheel, The Lotus Logo, The Aum Logo, The Yin Yang Logo, and the Elephant logos. Whatever will be will be Smiley

Personally I think it is a bad idea to put an elephant on the logo of a coin called 'Karma' when there already exists an elephant altcoin. However, if that is what the community decides then that is what should be.

Yes, as I've always said.. what we think doesn't matter. We need to poll our target market to get clear direction. I doubt that will happen, so I suppose the vote is the next best thing.

As you may read, I was referring to the symbology. Dharma is, indeed, religious.

as you might like to read.. no it isn't... its a philosophical construct used by many different religions.
can you point to the Dharma wheel and tell me which religion it represents?

But my point is that when designing a logo we should use something that does not already have meaning. As in, a new yet familiar symbol.

then why aren't you arguing for a change in the name?, by your own logic this coin has a very religious name..

"a philosophical construct used by many different religions" = a religious symbol. It doesn't matter if it's important to 1 religion or many.

Karmacoin is a very good name, imo. It's easy to remember and pronounce. It means different things to different people. It's also in English. It's also a name most Buddhists would probably not understand. (Nevermind many would call it something like "kammacoin" or "kalmcoin", because it has a "r" sound.) To me, that makes it more generic. A symbol, however, is more universal.

There's no need to discuss something that we won't use, anyway. No need to beat a dead horse. Whatever lines of reasoning we come up with would be fruitless because of it.
80  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KARM] Karmacoin - 6 Exchanges - Rewards about to change - Get in now on: February 28, 2014, 06:44:20 AM
Karmacoin is not a religious coin. It therefore should not have religious symbols.

firstly we have already gone over that topic... Dharma and Karma are not religious concepts in and of themselves.. they predate most of the worlds religions.

But to put Buddhist-like symbols on money is patently offensive.

secondly.. how can you make that claim that when countries of all religions have been doing that very thing for thousands of years?

We're talking about a startup in the form of a coin, Karmacoin, not a country.

We want to do good things. If the foundation of our coin (the logo) is offensive to some or many, would this not go against the idea of the coin?

It is not worth the risk. It is also not good design. There's not much else to be said about it, because it is not important to use such symbols in our coin.
