Traveling the world with Bitcoin is an awesome idea for a blog series, especially if you can incorporate at least a basic level of decent photography to help add to the impact. Good luck!
62  Economy / Economics / Re: Does bitcoin suffer from Gresham's law? on: September 07, 2014, 07:22:56 PM
I would argue that Bitcoin isn't an example of Gresham's law at all. It is simply in the early stages of adoption and its utility hasn't been fully determined, so there's lots of speculation and price volatility.
63  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Halcyon - x15 POS - Paper - Roadmap - Infographic - GFX Design Hire - Updt on: September 07, 2014, 07:10:13 AM
Keep up the good work dev.

To anybody else still thinking about investing. There are 3 major releases scheduled in the next 10 days where the decentralized/trustless anon is the first (releasing on Sept 9)
The other 2 features are the Payment Platform and the Halcyon store. There are also a few other minor releases also. All in all, a great week ahead. Im not telling you to buy, just stating facts. The rest is for your own discernment. http://halcyon.pw/roadmap/

That's a nice roadmap design/timeline. HAL seems to be making solid progress, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes in the next 10-60 days.
64  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] QIBUCK COIN - X13 - POS/POBH - 1st Proof of Baghold and asset backed. on: August 16, 2014, 07:06:40 AM
We Been looking at a few more places to invest. We found 3-4 on Havelock that are promising and one Script cloud hashing site as well as the Rigs. Smiley. So we will let you know next day or so what we are going to purchase. Smiley..
Here is a nice silver custom bullion site we have also been looking at. Our aim is to create a custom SILVER BULLION QIBUCK COIN every three months, limited edition to give to our QIBUCK FOUNDERS for bagholding their 10k coins religiously. Also maybe have a few for sale too. Smiley

http://www.sunshinemint.com/CustomMinting.aspx

Custom minted coins is exciting - prices can be a bit steeper than one might anticipate though. Definitely make sure to do your research before committing to it here.
65  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]ETHAN - NIST5 - Stealth Addresses & Anonymous chat. FULLY POS!!! on: August 16, 2014, 07:04:01 AM
@Dev
What about this idea for your PR ppl.
Give out some "Promo"-Cards with 10 ETHAN on it.

Could be an image quick & dirty like this

Then they give in the Promo Code and their adress and get the 10 ETHAN.
Another option is to make this a direct paper wallet, but then with other ppl knowing the passphrase, they should move it to their own wallet anyway. :-)

If you like the idea, I can do the scripts in the backend to handle this by Monday/Tuesday.

That's a terrific image, nice work!

My favorite part of this coin are all the car rental jokes that have been made... but on a serious note: Is there any legitimacy to the ANN OP's claims regarding spectrum frequency auctions? It seems very unlikely because you have to be a pre-registered, qualified bidder for any such government spectrum auction...

Easy to prove just post a pic of the registration, then boom HZ hits 40k

Dev before you post it though let us buy it up.

Easy to prove indeed.. so why not post the proof?  Smiley

Ahmm we are not suggesting buying spectrum from governments, Word "secondayr" in "Spectrum Secondary Market" there for a reason

That's great - secondary spectrum markets still function via auctions, and consist nearly exclusively of large players like telecom companies. Are you planning on participating in those auctions to buy spectrum, then re-auction it? Or merely to facilitate the auction process?

The real, interesting question is do you have any experience in these areas? Concrete evidence of that would go a long way towards helping convince people to mine, buy, and hold your coin.
68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: August 16, 2014, 05:28:24 AM
So the response by the NXT community is to taint the coins involved in the theft?

NXT community is decentralized. What individual members of the community do (exchanges in this case) is not unanimous opinion of all NXT community, and NXT community has no control of what individual members do, it's super duper decentralized, you know. Some members of NXT community even think of getting rid of its semi-official forum, because the forum makes it sort of more centralized, which goes against principles and values of NXT. Exchanges are free to act on their own, they are businesses, just like in real world you can choose to accept the money you know for sure involved in theft or not accept it.

Decentralization is one of the essential founding principles of cryptocurrency, and I'm glad to see overwhelming support from NXT holders to sticking with it in this case.
69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin being killed by ethereum dump on: August 16, 2014, 05:24:32 AM
A must read for all those getting scammed into ethereum: http://gavintech.blogspot.com/2014/06/bit-thereum.html

And for anyone who honestly believes bitcoin is being "killed" by this non-factor new altcoin, have a look at the big picture reality:

All of this has happened before, all of it will happen again. And again. And again. And again until fiat no longer exists.

just quoting that for history

 - also i like that Gavin called them "Oracles"

That's a nice article by Gavin, and I hadn't seen it yet, so thanks for linking to it. I like how he quotes "complexity is the enemy of security", but there's another angle to approach it from: usability. Complexity is the enemy of real world usage by any significant number of the non-genius-level-technically-inclined part of the human population.
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin TANKING...opinions on future outlook both nearterm and long term? on: August 16, 2014, 05:19:16 AM
Litecoin lacks of more innovation, but it will remain if backed properly.

That's a great, concise point that few people realize. Market leaders are rarely the most innovative, but they do need to be well funded and have proper marketing.

just a reminder

I am not a lawyer, but patents are far more useful than trademarks for this type of scenario -- also much more difficult and costly to obtain.
73  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Advice for new users regarding CLOUD MINING on: August 16, 2014, 04:27:13 AM
I posted this in the ZenMiner thread, but it seems important to note the following issues with GAW/ZenMiner here as well:

1) Total lack of any real mining from ZenMiner Cloud, as confirmed by more than 50% of the pools ZenMiner Cloud claims to allow miners to select. No increase in hashrate, workers, etc. from ZenMiner Cloud, nor "affiliation" or "private stratums" that Eric/Josh have claimed in the past, as commented on by at least four of the ZenMiner Cloud user-selectable pools.

2) No documented evidence of physical miners or an actual datacenter presence, as much as you guys like to post photo/video propaganda of Josh being the "scrypt king" -- just seems odd you won't post any kind of proof.

3) Extremely heavy handed moderation on HashTalk of any discussion of these issues or any other question/topic that you dislike.

4) Increasingly large delays in shipping orders both from GAW and ZenMiner.

5) Decreasing amount of non-ZenMiner Cloud hardware available for purchase at GAW (and increasing prices on the few items that are available).

6) "Interest" on ZenMiner Cloud held-bitcoin -- seems an awful lot like a ponzi scheme.

7) Discontinuation of "founders club" benefits like the promised upgrade paths, free hosting for life, etc. without any announcement or discussion possible - again due to heavy handed moderation on HashTalk, and refusal of customer service representatives to address the issue.

75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does XC uses multisig address and transaction? Looks like NOT at all on: August 16, 2014, 03:58:59 AM
that's exactly the questions I asked in their thread, glad you posted a thread to discuss it. thanks.

I have this question myself for some time, I saw your message in their thread. It's better have a separate thread to discuss it.

I would suggest you look at XC's Dev, Dan Metcalf's resume, and see that he is quite capable of what he says.   Also, you will have a nice shot at a very nice bounty very soon with the 3.0 release and a look at the whitepaper coming out soon.

Resume does not mean anything, do you know satoshi's resume? People put all bullshits in their resumes. If the XC truly supports multisig, just show a multisig address as greenclover asked. Very simple.

If you ask me whether Mammothcoin / supercoin's supersend really support multisig or not, I can show you their multisig address/tx in 10 secs, very easy. So don't talk garbage here, show the facts.

It is always nice to see people called out in clear, concise language and then just have to sit back to see how they respond. So, how about it? Can anyone post details of multisig tx in XC?

Learning what the Prisoner's dilemma is can prevent you from being the one caught off-guard in that situation, or blissfully unaware of the real world's workings around you. Great time to post that, kotarius.
77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Proof of HDD Capacity (PoC) Mining Config/Data Sharing/Collaboration on: August 16, 2014, 03:50:41 AM
Hi everyone, hope everyone that is mining Burst is enjoying it and finding blocks.

I just wanted to create this thread to sharing info and ideas to improve mining Burst or any future PoC coin.

Here is an rough draft of a google spreadsheet I created, please add to it: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uaXMLjLt90Ms1oRjcjz-eYPOkARtNS8JdrKFKOJdg4o/edit?usp=sharing

Everyone should have a fair knowledge to mine and to withhold that knowledge would be not good for the crypto-community in general.

Be glad to see people helping each other out here and please refrain from getting off topic, only talk about mining PoC and issues with it.

If I see any info that is helpful enough to be post on the OP, I will append the OP and add it below.

Thank you everybody,
SD13

Appended Info:

Formula for calculating Nonce Size: x=HDD used data size in GB

                                                f(x)=Nonce size

                                                f(x)=4096x

Guides for mining Burst taken from OP and thanks to the guys for supplying it:

Windows mining guide: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=731923.msg8298999#msg8298999 (thanks to KSpinner)
Linux mining guide: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=731923.msg8299637#msg8299637 (thanks to TetraHect0rCannabinol)

Thanks to dcct, here's a tool to calculate overlapping plots from the Burst thread: https://bchain.info/BURST/tools/overlap

UPDATE:
Please do not alter others information on the spreadsheet as a joke, that's downright disrespectful. That would not help the community out.

Thanks, this is *very* helpful information on mining Burst, and I'm glad to see it posted as a separate thread. Posting important information on page #80 of an existing thread often means it gets lost in the shuffle. I spent a little while digging through the Burst codebase to try and ascertain this, but got busy with other matters before making much progress.

It will be interesting to see results from your poll, but of course self-reported btc balances are a bit unreliable, at best.
79  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Introducing ZenCloud Hosting on: August 15, 2014, 11:28:29 PM
Its interesting to see GAW/ZenMiner posting here on an unmoderated thread, given the extremely heavy handed moderation present on their own forum ("HashTalk") and discontinuation of their previous bitcointalk thread for GAW a while back. I'm eager to see what feedback and discussion we'll see in this thread, as most of the recent feedback on GAW/ZenMiner outside of HashTalk has been negative. Perhaps Eric can shed some light on several issues that have been banned from discussion on HashTalk or have failed to be addressed by Eric, Josh, Amber, or other GAW representatives:

80  Economy / Economics / Re: STOP SELLING NOW!! URGENT CALL TO BITSTAMPERS AROUND THE WORLD on: August 15, 2014, 11:13:27 PM
As long as we have a few thousand people with a decent income that believe in bitcoin there can only be one ending... Do not give up.  If 10 000 of us keep buying eventually we will get all of the coins from the weak hands...  HODL them don't listen to this spend shit.. don't spend it at places that instant change to fiat bad, bad boy.

Instant changing to fiat isn't necessarily a huge problem - it provides liquidity at market prices. Companies that amass large quantities of bitcoin and then exchange to fiat in bulk can impact markets though, so beware of those.
