The ID is indeed an integral part of the Airdrop, but not sufficient to claim coins.

No sane person would leave 10,500,000 coins in a hot wallet on a server distributing the coins. Coins will be added incrementally, hence the 21 addresses. Maybe there should even be more of them.

Just read what the Icelanders in this thread wrote. They know this can be done.

Obviously it will not be sufficient just to have someones ID number in order to claim coins.

If you don't believe in the fundamentals of the project, thats OK. You don't need to support it.

hey what's up with the http://aur.pool-a.net/ pool?

All their pools seem to be down.

As various posts by knowledgeable people in this thread demonstrate, the Airdrop is technically feasible. There should be no doubt about that.

I am finishing a statement for release within 48 hours. I have taken into consideration many of the concerns I have seen on the forum and reddit. It will hopefully answer the questions people have been asking about the details of the Airdrop and the aftermath.

The coins will be worthless, the reputation of cryptocurrencies in Iceland damaged and my time will have been wasted if I don't make good on the plan. So chill.

I call on whoever is operating http://aur.pool-a.net to help those users that are locked out of their accounts.

Do you know how many users are affected by this, and why they are locked out?

I'm currently mining via that pool without problems but obviously this concerns me.

At least three. Seems to be linked to brute force attack on their accounts. That is a sensible security mechanism, but the pool operator must answer support requests from those affected.

Until the issue is resolved I must recommend users mine in the other pools.

So is the difficulty going to drop drastically? Why does my pool say current difficulty 29 and next difficulty change in a whopping 700+ blocks is expected to be around 2?

The pool is not displaying the estimate correctly. Diff has been going up constantly no matter what the estimate for the next diff says.

Here's the actual difficulty values (stored in the blockchain) from around the last 48 hours.

Pool estimates are way off, possibly because the retarget period is set incorrectly (it appears to be 8 blocks)

The premined coins will be distributed to the entire population of Iceland, commencing on midnight 25th of March 2014.
Awesome. Good luck on getting people to believe that.

Don't need to convince anyone. Icelanders already know they can identify themselves easily online. Check out this nifty app for example: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/04/18/icelandic-anti-incest-app_n_3109628.html

Premined for a reason. Read up on it on the website. If you don't like it, don't touch it.

And how are you going to distribute the coins to everyone?

Electronic National ID scheme - provided by the government, but useable by anyone.

Are you going to go through all of them manually to make sure the person who is asking the coins is the person he claims to be? Can't someone just enter ID's into your web page and collect coins non-stop? Just out of curiosity, how do you see it happening? Huh

Each Icelander can verify himself through the scheme only once.

Auroracoin
– a cryptocurrency for Iceland

RELEASED MIDNIGHT GMT FEB 2ND

TO BE AIRDROPPED TO THE ICELANDIC POPULATION MAR 25TH

Auroracoin is a cryptocurrency for Iceland. 21.000.000 coins, block reward 25. It is based on litecoin and is 50% premined. The premined coins will be distributed to the entire population of Iceland, commencing on midnight 25th of March 2014.

Auroracoin is designed to break the shackles of the fiat currency financial system in Iceland.

Iceland has been hit hard by financial meltdown and inflation. Not only did the entire banking system collapse in 2008, but the monetary history of Iceland is one of inflation, devaluation and currency controls.

Auroracoin is an opportunity for Icelanders to free themselves from currency controls and government debasement of the currency.

Auroracoin is based on the Litecoin protocol. However, it is started by the “Airdrop” of premined auroracoins to the Icelandic nation, designed to reach almost every Icelander. This one-time event will create the conditions for Icelanders to start using the currency, by providing them with a start and making them aware of the currency and its possibilities. After the Airdrop, the only way to acquire auroracoins will be through mining and transacting.
