62  Economy / Economics / Re: When or WILL the price come back down? on: April 06, 2013, 01:16:30 PM
Think of bitcoin as a bucket being filled with water. Imagine the waves splashing about the sides of the bucket as water is poured into your bucket from various heights and sources. When that bucket is full you will know by the absence of splashing. At that point, when bitcoins flow over the edges to be absorbed by the ground below we should expect to see money flowing out of bitcoin in the form of purchased goods and services.

The price of bitcoin will continue to rise until the bucket is full. When the bucket is full people with goods and services to sell will decide they need some water. When they withdraw water from the bucket, the bucket will seek to fill itself in a new manner. What was once a volatile source of filling the bucket (hot venture money) will instead be filled through siphoning the water table (transactional money).

We won't know when the bucket is full till it's full. Consider rain falling upon the desert. You can, with almost certainty, predict the path of the water but you will never know the size of the lake until it has been accepted as a lake. People who think that lake bitcoin is only a floodplain believe that that networks and the rain of data will cease to exist. There are many clouds on the horizon.

This has been your bitcoin weather report.

That's why you should always keep your wallet.dat on a disc and put it in a fire proof safe.

I put mine on a USB and tied it to the top of a tree.

64  Economy / Speculation / Re: The road to $1000 would be much harder on: April 06, 2013, 12:02:47 PM
I think if we can see some more market stability - more online merchants will adopt btc as a payment method - which in turn will reduce the amount of "Cash Exit" clients. - If you could buy fuel cards / clothing and even pay your electricity bill with BTC then you would be less inclined to exit.

It's just hard for certain tangible products to be paid for in BTC when there is no means to protect the buyer...

exposing for the first time the identities of thousands of holders of anonymous wealth from around the world

Soo.. if its anonymous... how exactly do we substantiate it ?

I get at least 1 email a week from some Nigerian / Swedish banker telling me a close relative has left me $1Mil and all I need to do is send them some details.
If I added up all of these emails over the pas 10 years, there is suddenly $100Mil of wealth anonymously hidden.. somewhere??  Huh
66  Economy / Economics / BTC-E vs Mt.GOX ... List price .. I don't get it. on: April 05, 2013, 10:32:38 PM
So. - As I type this the current list price for BTC/USD is the following.

BTC-E BTC/USD: $112.92
MT.GOX BTC/USD: $143.20

So firstly, why such a big difference between the 2 exchanges.. and wouldn't it be a no brainer to buy say $100k worth on BTC-E - Transfer them to MT.Gox and sell at a profit? (even with small transaction fees) - or have i completely missed something? o_O

I don't get it...  Huh

I'm struggling to buy PPC with BTC. On the orders screen it only shows NMC / BTC with no way to change it??  - This is starting to frustrate me Sad
Click on "PPC/BTC" in the order summary on the right, below "Your balances".

Ahh cheers!

70  Economy / Economics / Re: Should I buy BTC or mine LTC? on: April 03, 2013, 11:30:54 AM
I don't have much confidence in the altcoin movement. Increases in price I believe are based merely on speculation. Bitcoins introduced the world to P2P cryptocurrency, and we're still in the introduction phase. Because of this I don't believe any altcoin will truly be successful (at least CLOSE to the level that BTC are).

No, but even if they (ltc) can beg themselves (it) to 10% of the value it's worth considering... and that's exactly what appears to be happening (around 3-5%). If you're new to cryptocurrency and you can buy 25 LTC for $100 vs 0.8 btc, its worth consideration, especially if LTC does reach $100 some day.
71  Economy / Economics / Re: This bubble reminds me of something.. on: April 03, 2013, 11:26:02 AM
I doubt there would be a market at $1m per coin... I think it will flatline at $1000 max... but then my guess is as good as an others.. right?  Wink
72  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Reserve Board? on: April 03, 2013, 11:24:32 AM
It sounds like “price manipulation” to me. Are you sure that this is what Bitcoin needs?... Smiley

I would rather have the bit coin value flat line at 100 dollars for atleast a few months for stability.
While that happens we can get more vendors  to accept bit coin.
Therefor make  it unlikely it will ever dip below 90 dollars per bit coin if it were to crash.

I want to leave & return 4 years from now, and see it aleast 90 dollars per coin.
That won't happen with this crazyness.

I agree linear progression would help the acceptance.. but as noted above. You can't force a free market.. only time will tell  Undecided
73  Economy / Economics / How many bitcoins are missing? on: April 03, 2013, 09:13:25 AM
It got me thinking.... how many bitcoins are already lost forever due to PC's destroyed in fires, HDD's crashing etc.. Is there even a way to know?  Huh

76  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $100 per BTC reached, lets start using mBTC as default unit. on: April 01, 2013, 08:59:27 PM
isn't the $1000 cap a more logical cap to start using mBTC?
Since 1mBTC is 1:1000th of a bitcoin and all that.

Just sayin' Tongue

i concur...
