61  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2 Days back i sold 17 BTC for 4968 $ on bittrex - i regret on: October 16, 2017, 04:54:46 PM
These decisions of selling portion of your bitcoin stash are always hard. From what I see Op never mentioned how many Bitcoins he had.
If he only sold part of it and collected some profits then it is nothing wrong with it.
After all following the logic of constant growth and never-ending price growth expectations we may wait forever and never sell even 1 BTC.
Because frankly speaking we will always expect that price will be higher, next week, next month or after next halving etc.
62  Economy / Speculation / Re: Investor Predicts Bitcoin Price to Hit $27k in Four Months on: October 15, 2017, 08:28:24 PM
I am reluctant to believe in technical indicators as the main factor when predicting Bitcoin's price.
It is pure hit or miss - technical indicators shouldn't be treated as definitive proof that bitcoin will/won't be worth $X amount of money.
Indicators may comfort you, but in reality, they are doing you more harm than good. This prediction that BTC in February will hit $27k is too good to be true IMO.
63  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Laptop or desktop security on: October 15, 2017, 06:44:01 PM
I'm looking to purchase a new laptop and I want to know, which brand would be best compatible with #Bitcoin core wallets and upgrades.
Buy anything brand you like, it hardware doesn't matter at all. Every modern laptop/PC will we more than sufficient to run Bitcoin Core.
There are no beter or worse pieces of hardware, just follow the general rule of picking hardware: more expensive = better performance, usually.

What security services should I use?
What do you mean security services? Just download a wallet, protect it with good passwords, preferably use some kind of password manager for that/
And use digital hygiene is a must, install antivirus, anti-malware or even better create a paper wallet or offline wallet to keep the most of your Bitcoins there.

64  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Taking Courses to learn about Bitcoin on: October 15, 2017, 06:07:17 PM
Has anyone taken a course online on sites like Udemy to learn about bitcoin? I just received a coupon to enroll in a bitcoin course for free. Would it be worth the time?
If anyone has any experience, do share.
Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are a kinda new topic for everyone. If you truly want to learn about it then simply use the internet.
Every possible info about BTC, blockchain is available for free online, if that was a paid course I would advise against it.
But since it is free to enter course you can try to test it out and tell us whether it is something worth our time.
Additional question: do you think it will help you somehow with your work? Or you just want to learn if because you like this idea?
65  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think digital currency will ever replace paper money? on: October 15, 2017, 04:59:56 PM
No...
I think it will not become paper money.Because now days many country uses mobile or oonline pay systems.
How come you contradicted yourself in this short sentence? Smiley Paper money will be gone and will be replaced with digital payments.
Frankly, it is not that important for average Joe whetehr we will have blockchain based cryptocurrency or digital cashless society based on centralized Payment Service Providers.
The future is clear - governments are too crazy about controlling money flow, sooner or later under the pretext of progress and greater convenience, paper fiat money will be gone.
66  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto winter is coming again … on: October 14, 2017, 09:41:45 PM
I pondered about whole crypto reality and unfortunately, I need to agree with Jamie Dimon when he said that Bitcoin might be shut down by the governments.
Bitcoin might be something insignificant for now, but it is still growing and very soon when it will reach a certain level we will see government intervention in the bitcoin industry.
Governments like to control money, like to know where and who is sending it. It is not a secret. There is a really high chance that we see a lot more government action against bitcoin.
Most likely some draconian regulation will be put in place, maybe something even more drastic like action including changes to the core BTC protocol.
67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Missing out on things on: October 12, 2017, 04:53:51 PM
Recently I don't participate in newer ICOs as I got tired of possible scam attempts so I gotta say that scam warnings are essential for me.
Second on my list is always info about any potential changes of price, influential news etc. this is something that is important both for old established coins and ICOs alike.
Dates of whitepaper release, exchange releasing time etc.  I agree that info about this might boost a price a bit, but this is not crucial data for me.
68  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Going Above 6k Soon!!!!! on: October 12, 2017, 04:35:34 PM
I hope you all realize that this current high bitcoin price is only caused by the promise of hard fork and potential airdrop of Bitcoin Gold for anyone owning bitcoin at the moment of fork.
We may expect rather severe crash as soon as that event will end and bitcoin price could drop back even to $3xxx level.
69  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin get back to it's first time value? on: October 11, 2017, 07:49:45 PM
Bitcoin will never return to the price when first appears. I think, bitcoin would be even more popular even though China blocked it. Bitcoin worldwide, and bigger than China's influence.
China did not block bitcoin and neither did they ban bitcoin. The only thing they did was shutting down exchange for now which apparently makes it difficult for anyone to exchange what they have into fiat. But there is no law or policy stating bitcoin as illegal or other activities surrounding bitcoin as illegal, otherwise, miners in China would have been soaked in their tears by now.
Actually, I am rather glad that Chinese officials have pulled the plug on ICOs. I don't like them and I find ICO market highly speculative and harmful for crypto based economy.
I am indifferent to bitcoin<->yuan ban because this is a hindrance of some sort for bitcoin users in China, but at the same time, I don't think that it will prevent people from cashing their coins.
Chinese P2P trading is strong and most traders moved to it after previous trade-withdraw blockade anyway.
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia banning BTC? on: October 11, 2017, 06:04:25 PM
1. Russian officials have no idea what they are doing, or what they really need.
2. They won't be able to enforce any kind of cryptocurrency ban, either usage ban or trading ban would be only dead law.
3. Russia banned bitcoin before, and if I remember correctly this only caused Bitcoin to be more popular in Russia.
4. Russian citizens will do whatever they want despite official regulations or plain BTC ban, people in Russian have a long history of fighting against the system after all.
71  Economy / Economics / Re: We can now make gold! on: October 10, 2017, 09:32:13 PM
Deceptive thread title at its finest Wink At first I thought this thread is about Bitcoin Gold.

If making gold from other elements would be so easy then while gold based economy and gold reserve standard would quickly go down.
But I admit - this kind of thing (some kind of gold/fiat crisis) is totally needed for bitcoin if we want to reach moon anytime soon.
72  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Genesis Mining after Fork on: October 10, 2017, 09:00:27 PM
Don't be fooled - cloud mining has very little to do with real mining, hash rate power and such.
It is more like investment and your payout will be controlled and 'mining company' will make sure that your profits would be rather just simple interest rate.
No matter how much you will invest, your final gain will be always the same. It is near zero-sum game.
73  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Back to 5000 Dollars ? on: October 09, 2017, 08:22:20 PM
Hopefully, Bitcoin will hit $5000 this week. The possibility of more price increases up to 25th. Then again the price may fall. China Bitcoin's banned influence is still there, so there is a high likelihood of lower prices
The fact that we entered bullish stage despite Chinese menace overshadowing crypto trade is reassuring.
It only showed us that China once more is not that influential and Chinese traders moved to p2p trading a long time ago.
I am more worried about the reason of this current price race and the fact that upward trend seems to be rather random this time.
74  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin development direction. on: October 09, 2017, 06:43:28 PM
Bitcoin is a very well known technology. But its infrastructure is still not sufficiently developed.
First of all, bitcoin is not well known at all. Ask anyone, people have really no idea or they heard once or twice word bitcoin before.
Most of the people I know think BTC is some kind of virtual money - but if I asked them about more details then basically no one could specify why BTC is important.
We can't develop bitcoin 'infrastructure' overnight, adoption needs to happen first, and this is not something we can influence or control.
What I want for bitcoin is more transparent approach and simplicity of development process - the simpler the idea behind the BTC the better.
75  Other / Meta / Re: eETC appeared and disappeared from ANN? on: October 08, 2017, 09:43:20 PM
Airdrops aren't forbidden at all.
It's most likely deleted because people are posting wallet addresses in the thread.
And what is wrong with posting wallet addresses in the thread? People do it all the time in other threads.
Airdrops are kinda like giveaways, so maybe the thread needed to be in other section or something?
Anyway, I've seen many airdrops thread in the past, none of them were deleted by the mods.
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any new airdrop coins? on: October 08, 2017, 09:25:57 PM
It probably has been mentioned before in this thread, (sorry to no read whole 108 pages of it to confirm).
But I think this link should be repeated from time to time to get more exposure: https://airdropalert.com/
Here you will find a list of upcoming, active and past airdrops - now I see that missed some really interesting Airdrops quite recently...
77  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Government regulation of bitcoin on: October 08, 2017, 09:13:14 PM
Some core elements of future cryptocurrency regulations we may see in the future:

1. It is almost sure that government intervention in the cryptocurrency is inevitable, it is only matter of time.
2. Government officials think that bitcoin is too unpredictable and hard to tame ATM, and it needs to be changed to bring it in line with other payment systems.
3. We may see even changes to the core bitcoin protocol, for example: regulators will try to add identity information to bitcoin transactions and will try to make it possible to blacklist funds.
78  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We should work on UX! on: October 08, 2017, 08:48:45 PM
Bitcoin ecosystem today is far from friendly.
I agree, entering Bitcoin world is not advised for the faint of heart, you need certain amount of knowledge before you even start.

There are tons of scammers everywhere, one can mistype an address and lose money, put a wrong GAS amount and lose money, forget private key and lose all money.
Scammers will be there always - as for other instances of fucking yourself up, unfortunately, bitcoin is not idiot-friendly, it doesn't forgives mistakes.
What we as pioneers should focus on is user experience: new people should feel more friendly when start using Bitcoin. The interface of the apps should be more intuitive and less scary. We should create an ecosystem with a strong scam defense.
I can sympathize with your idea, but some things simply can't be changed easily, for example, the way bitcoin network works.
Bitcoin transaction will be always irreversible (at least in the foreseeable future) and that is a perfect ground for every possible scam.
What can be done to made wallets less scary? After all they are pretty easy to use - once you know basic principles of BTC.
79  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Lisk on Coinbase ! Petition on: October 07, 2017, 05:51:01 PM
Let's face it guys, Lisk is not yet ready to be embraced by Coinbase. Recently we could observe a new wave of projects (NEO, Qtum, Bitconnect and more ) and they are younger that Lisk,
yet they are already reached higher market capitalization. Sure, the market cap is not the best way to evaluate a coin, its potential and possible future.
But you gotta admit, either Lisk is falling off the race or its time does not yet come.
80  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin loss? on: October 07, 2017, 05:34:45 PM
One thing always came on my mind when I entered the world of Bitcoin.
Fiat are issued with registered numbers and recycles in the name of new currency, making the old obsolete.
i.e. They never get destroyed even if the physical notes gets burned and decayed.

But bitcoin are totally different, they can be lost
- sending to unsupported address
- loosing private keys
- people dying with private keys, etc.
Which will keep on decreasing the total available supply of the coin. making it more scarce.
Won't that bring a problem the the economics, no coins left to trade situations?
Oh sweet summer child, this topic was belaboured to the death before many times. So to sum it all up - this is not a problem at all.
It would be only when we would have 21 millions of Bitcoin and every single one of BTC couldn't be divided into smaller units.
In a situation when 1 BTC is divisible down to 8 decimal places and all calculations are performed in satoshis (1 satoshi = 0.00000001 BTC) we have nothing to worry about.
Bitcoin loss over time is nothing to worry about.
