This book brings you back to 19th century in a colonized Java and it's kinda based on a real story. One thing to expect from almost all of Pram's writing is that the story will probably makes you cry.

I would've suggested his other work, Arus Balik, but I can't seem to find if this one's been translated to other languages or not.
