61  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Racism in Soccer on: June 11, 2024, 01:28:27 PM
Racism isn’t confined to sports, it’s prevalent everywhere, some countries much more than others. The key is education, the effects racism can have on people can be demoralising. Children in schools need to be educated on it, diversity must be preached. It might be hard to change the ways of older people but we can make a change by educating the young on this matter.
It's very true that racism is not confined to sports, it's prevalent in every areas of the society, only that it's more noticeable in sports because of the popularity of many sports like football. Although I believe that racism is not prevalent today as it was like many decades back, it's perhaps lesser in this generation, but like a stubborn spot it's not easy to totally erase. I think that it's in human nature to want to feel superior to people that are perceived to be inferior, even people of the same race will discriminate against the people that are not in the same status and financial class with them. People needs to be more civilized and not judge others based on the color of their skin or their financial status in the society, but based on character.
62  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion || Current Topic: Worldcup qualifiers - CAF. on: June 11, 2024, 11:31:58 AM
With the 2-1 loss of the Super Eagles, it is gradually forming into a reality that the Super Eagles may not be qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. This is the 4th match of the Super Eagles, and what they make out of it, is 3 points(3 draws and a loss match), no single win.

What I will just say about this CAF World Cup qualification toward the Super Eagles is that it will completely be a show of shame if, at the end of the World Cup qualification matches, the Super Eagles don't appear in the Group C top table after playing up to 10 good matches(6 more matches remaining to play by next year)

The supper eagles I use to know is totally different from what I'm seeing now because there performance this time is very poor, I actually do not understand what is wrong with the players because they now find it very difficult to win the smaller countries they use to and with the look of things if they continue this way they may not be able to qualify for the world Cup and if they miss the next world Cup that means people will seriously lose hope on them, funny enough the supper eagles was even the first that scored on the 27 minutes of the first half but they could not maintain or defend there goal and at the end they lose 2:1, I never believe that today's match will end this way because the supper eagles always have better performance than the Benin team.
When the super eagles scored the first and their only goal in the match against the Benin republic team, I was happy and I felt confident that the eagles were going to win the match, and in the worst case scenario that it might end in a draw. But I felt sad when the Benin republic, team, equalized and later went ahead to win the match, infact the eagles are dashing my hopes of seeing them in the world cup finals. This is an opportunity for Finidi George, to change his formation and give us a win, so that we can have faith in indigenous coaches, because this is his opportunity to shine and take the team to the world cup. In football anything can happen, so let us not totally write off our eagles, until it's over.

64  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino companies' responsibilities to rehabilitation institutions on: June 11, 2024, 07:00:04 AM
It is a good thought that gambling companies should take part of the responsibilities of rehabilitating gamblers that got addicted through gambling. But I know that the idea can not be feasible for a lot of reasons, they advice gamblers to gamble responsibly, so if a gambler doesn't take their advice and degenerates to become addicted, nobody can hold them responsible. I believe that if gambling companies takes up the task or responsibilities of rehabilitating gambling addicts, it can get out of hand because we might have more addicts, some gamblers won't mind becoming addicts, as they know that gambling companies will take care of them.

This is one of the reasons why gambling is for adults who are old enough to make choices and take own decisions, and if they becomes irresponsible gamblers and gets addicted, I don't think that the consequences should be on the gambling companies.
65  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin gradually turning away from its purpose? on: June 10, 2024, 05:00:20 PM
I believe the primary purpose of Bitcoin is to decentralize currency, making it accessible to everyone globally, enabling fast and anonymous transactions. In the long run, investing in Bitcoin appears to be a viable use, as holding through bull markets tends to be more profitable than using it solely for transactions.
I believe that Bitcoin, is not turning from it's original purpose, instead it is diversifying and becoming more innovative, meaning that it's added investment features is what is making it's adoption to be growing faster. Why it seems like the original p2p intention of Satoshi Nakamoto, for creating Bitcoin, is turning away from it's purpose is because hodling it for investment is more profitable, but that doesn't mean that people are no longer using it for p2p to make payments for transactions.

Although because people hodl Bitcoin more for investment, they hardly use it for payments, they'd rather use fiat, but I believe that if more businesses starts to accept Bitcoin, as payment, it will encourage more hodlers to be making payments with it.

67  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is there a legal jurisdiction backing up gamblers against the casino oppression? on: June 10, 2024, 01:39:24 PM
You should know that they have been cases where gamblers took the casino to court  and won. Here's a typical case, Online gambler wins court case to claim £1.7m prize after Betfred refused to pay.
If it is a physical casino, then they can seek redress at a court, or thestate or national gaming commissions or boards. For Online casino, gamblers can reach out to licensing company. There's so many ways that gamblers can seek redress if they feel cheated. The only thing is that it may be a very long process as investigation will be conducted if the body is fast enough the gambler could get justice if it turns out in his favor or may just lose.
I believe that there must be customers protection rights when casinos and bet companies are seeking for registrations in any country, but the the majority of gambling customers might not be aware of these laws that protects them. There is a gaming commission in my country and I believe that they're in charge of gambling regulations in Nigeria, and I hope that part of their job is to protect gamblers from gambling establishment's exploitations. Most times people don't have the patience to go through the rigors of reading through terms and conditions of casinos and bet companies, they'll agree and go straight to gambling, perhaps it's only when problems arises that they'll tell you what you agreed to. The important thing is for gamblers to look for casinos and bet companies that have reputation.
68  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Can Bitcoin help to reduce crime? on: June 10, 2024, 07:55:48 AM
Bitcoin fit to help to reduce crime unto say na store of value wey people fit to invest in and earn profit to take better dem lives, also cryptocurrency in general fit to help reduce crime because e de profitable to trade and invest. But Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency no de enough to combat crime for any country, no matter how profitable e be, crime na choice because even di super rich de involve for crime. Wetin cryptocurrency de do in general na to provide avenue to do business and earn profits, di advantage be say person no need to write application to any establishments before dem go start, na just to learn about di required skills, raise money and start, meaning say di crypto industry no get restrictions.
69  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: why do people always play gambling even if they always lose? on: June 10, 2024, 06:14:26 AM
I think that there can be different reasons why people who gambles and loses repeatedly still continues to gamble. One of the reasons could be boredom, when a gambler don't have anything better to do, they will just go back to gambling, and it doesn't matter much whether they win or lose. Others could be chasing loses, when they've lost so much money in gambling, they'll be believing that they will recover all their loses in the next couple of gambling. Then we have the addicts, some don't even know why they gamble anymore, it becomes something that they must do to have peace of mind, without which they can remain nervous all day, they can sale their belongings or borrow money, just to satisfy the urge of gambling. It's important to be disciplined and take breaks from gambling when the gambler repeatedly loses.
70  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: The Impact of Bitcoin to Nigeria Economy on: June 09, 2024, 04:02:08 PM

Many successful bitcoiner are going into diversification of investment using proceed from bitcoin to invest in other sectors thereby creating job opportunities as well as complying to tasks demand of the government.
Bitcoin investment don make plenty impact for our Nigerian economy, many people especially di youths don enter crypto business in different capacities, weda na for trading or investment levels, dem de make money inside. Person wey get long term business plans, instead to save money inside bank, wey inflation go de devalue am, di best thing na to do DCA method, invest di money inside Bitcoin, within some years e go accrue plenty returns on investment to start di project.

I hope say our government go change dem perspective towards cryptocurrency and understand say no am be di problem of Nigeria, dem fit to regulate di sector, so everybody for di country go understand say na genuine business e be.
71  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you lost the money that you where supposed to withdraw from online casino? on: June 09, 2024, 01:41:10 PM
My little experience today, earlier today I was gambling with one of these online gamble site then I was very lucky that I won so much money that's up to $500 with an initial amount that's it not up to $15. However I didn't win the whole money on one stake, for instance I won $200, I only withdraw $150 and gamble with the remaining $50. So that was how I was doing untill I won a lot but didn't withdraw them at once, I withdraw up to 4 times from my online gamble account and the fifth withdrawal wasn't successful and they said I have to wait for 24 hours before I can continue to withdraw the money, so while waiting I gamble and lost the money I was supposed to withdraw, so have you experienced a thing like this from any online gamble site that make you to lose the money that you wanted to withdraw?

So many times this happened to me and still happening from time to time which is why I leave or replace casinos that delay their withdrawals because you will be tempted to use the money to try your luck and hope you increase your withdrawals and so many times the opposite happens and you lose the money.

I think that this is a strategy that casino companies uses to work on gamblers psychologies, they know that the moment a gambler cashes out their wins, that'll probably be it for the day, so delaying withdrawals can tempt the gambler to gamble more, afterall they're not putting extra money. So best thing is not to patronize casinos that delays payments, inorder to reduce the temptations of continue gambling when you're supposed to sign off. Above this i think that every gambler needs to imbibe discipline, inorder to avoid unnecessarily gambling more than they should and regret later.
72  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: FTX will repay everybody 118% back on: June 09, 2024, 11:34:34 AM
I apologise if there is already an active thread on this but I couldn't find one.

According to the bankrupcy company. They are planning on paying the claimants back 118%. This is confirmed by their twitter account. FTX Official

Quote

There are also companies that are buying claims at 99% according to some Reddit users.

The 18% extra is an interest that they are adding.

So in the end everything worked out... customers were actually made "whole" like SBF promised.
I read this news a while ago, maybe about 2 weeks ago if I am correct, but I never gave it much thought until it happened "because seeing is believing." I sounded that way because Mt. Gox will always be my reference point, it is one promise over the other for so long, so I will only believe what I see with FTX.

Indeed seeing is believing and I'm agreeing with your thoughts because this is not the first time that I'm hearing about refunds from FTX to their customers who have been waiting endlessly for action instead of words. If they however fulfills their promise of repaying back 118% to the claimants, I think that will be a very good start for them, perhaps it'll restore some level of trust to their dented reputation, even if it's in small way. Although I wish that they had put a date to the promise of payments, that would've given people more assurance that they have a concrete plan to start, we'll just wait and see how it plays out.
73  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 U.S. Presidential Election Bets! on: June 09, 2024, 06:26:03 AM
This year's US election will be very interesting because the two candidates are not new to the white house, one is a past president and the other is a sitting president. It'll be easier for Americans to choose who they want to lead them after the election because they have seen the performance of the two. I would have said that it's not easy to defeat an incumbent president, but Joe Biden, won Donald Trump, who was an incumbent president.

If I'm to put a bet on whom I support to win and whom I think will win, then I'll put my money on one candidate, Donald Trump. But that's a call that the American citizens have to make, and I hope that they do justice with their votes to choose who the majority wants.
74  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Helping Me Set Up A Fancy Restaurant in The Ghetto on: June 08, 2024, 04:52:50 PM
I don't think that Bitcoin gives anybody overnight riches to establish a business, especially if the person is a low income earner or poor, you need to hodl it for a long term to be able to make enough ROI to reinvest into another business. So your dream of starting a fancy restaurant in the ghetto, without sufficient funds and depending on Bitcoin, might not be a feasible idea, unless you're getting a massive support from other areas, like your writing skills.

I don't think that you need a fancy restaurant in the ghetto to make the poor people to be happy, because they'll be more interested in the food and might hardly appreciate your hard labor to give them fancy and luxury. If you're serving fancy food and services to people who can't afford to pay for it, then I wonder how you are going to sustain the business with your small income? If you don't have the excess money to start a charitable business, then don't, only give what you can afford at anytime.
75  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: How digital currency has helped in solving monetary problems. on: June 08, 2024, 03:20:45 PM
Technological advancements don really help di financial sectors for every country inside di world today, you fit to sit down for di comfort of your home and begin to de do financial transactions, whereas before di creation internet, you go queue for many hours for Banks before you go transfer money. But for clarification purposes OP, no be only for cryptocurrency digital transactions de happen, we fit to also do digital transactions with fiat currency, e mean say any transactions wey no be with physical cash, na through digital transactions e go happen.

Di advantages of a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin, and wetin make am to de unique pass fiat digital transactions be say na decentralized digital cash im be while fiat currencies dem de centralized. Bitcoin give di holders privacy and freedom from third party interferences anywhere in the world, person wey hold Bitcoin, anywhere in the world no get any government restrictions to make financial transactions, unto say governments no de control am, unless di person go through centralized exchanges.
76  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion || Current Topic: Worldcup qualifiers - CAF. on: June 08, 2024, 12:22:25 PM
I was opportuned to see this game live and it was highly contested almost like an actual world cup finals game. Without any doubt, it's safe to say that the south African team was the much better team based on their overall performance in the game. However, the Nigerian team should have won because they had plenty of clear cut opportunities

Right from the beginning south Africans player's has been more impressive in performance than Nigerian players because if you watch there previous matches is always similar to what they play today and in most cases south Africans are always the favourite to win  there matches against Nigerians, just like there match today they almost won Nigerians if not that Nigerians were able to manage and equalize at the beginning of the second half, however just like you said there overall performance was on the favour of the south Africans because they really give Nigerians a serious tough time on this match and they dominated the game from the beginning of the first half, however the supper eagles has really tried because is not easy to hold south Africans to a draw match.
I wasn't disposed to watch the match live when it was being played, but I've received enough updates about it afterwards, just like you said, I heard that it was was a well contested match, although the bafana bafana of south Africa, had the upper hand against the super eagles of Nigeria. I'm still uptimistic about Nigeria's qualification, despite all the odds in front of them, our new coach, George Finidi, has a lot of experience in football as an ex player and he has acquired a lot of coaching experience, so I believe that this match is a big test for him and the team will perform better against squirrels of Benin, in our next match.
77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tap Swap and other new projects trending on: June 08, 2024, 10:55:11 AM
People likes to follow success patterns so when they see something that became a success, they'll like to follow any replica or what shares similarities with it. Since the success of NOTCOIN, I'm amazed at how many people that are now tapping on their phones, both the young and old, even people who were skeptical about cryptocurrency, I guess because the tapping is an easy task for them. But my worry is that scammers will take advantage of these tap trend to scam people who are not knowledgeable about cryptocurrency. They will ignorantly pay scam fees inorder to claim their rewards, others will connect their main wallets to the scammers, in the end they'll categorize every cryptocurrency as scam.
78  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Religious leader barred from casinos because of big wins. on: June 08, 2024, 09:01:03 AM

Do you think a religious leader should be involved in gambling? Do also accept his reason for engaging in gambling?  Are these casinos right to ban him from gambling?

If your religious believes and the laws of your country doesn't prohibit gambling, then by all means you can go ahead and do so. If Christianity doesn't specifically prohibit gambling, then I don't see any reason why a religious leader can not preach and gamble responsibly, what really matters is the gamblers lifestyle, not the gambling itself.

The religious leader's reasons for gambling is very noble as far as I'm concerned, if he's dedicating his winnings to alleviate poverty, then he should be encouraged. I think that he's better than those religious leaders that will take from the poor and enrich themselves.

I think that it's not right for casinos to ban him because of his wins everytime because if he was losing that same amount they wouldn't consider banning him. But it's obvious that casinos don't like to loose, and if a gambler keeps winning they won't like him to be their customer anymore. If there's no evidence that he manipulates he's winnings, then the ban is not fair.
79  Economy / Speculation / Re: Donate $100 the day bitcoin hits $100k. on: June 07, 2024, 04:11:29 PM
Donating to the poor does not require a specific day or a specific festival. If we have the mindset of giving then we can help the poor and needy from any position. The current social system is such that if a person donates a banana to a poor person, they upload a picture of the donation on ten social platforms. Donation should never be done like this, you know that you have donated and your Creator knows that this donation is not to be spread among people. You are giving charity and that donation has benefited a poor person a lot, here is your self satisfaction. If bitcoin touch 100k dollar that day will surely be happy day for us but only human danger will not wait for that day poor people are suffering every day so we should help them every day. We should think every day that every day Bitcoin has touched 100k dollars and every day we should help the poor people as much as we can.
I totally agree that we don't need a special day to touch the lives people, especially the poor in our societies, giving should be done whenever we have it to give out. But I also reason with the OP that there are special occasions that calls for special givings, which doesn't stop you from being charitable on every other days. I think to donate $100 on the day that Bitcoin hits $100k is a laudable idea to celebrate the much awaited and speculated price and it doesn't stop the person from giving more or less in any other days. I'm personally looking forward to the day when Bitcoin price reaches, $100k, besides looking forward to giving out a special donation to the poor, I'll give my family a special treat to celebrate it.
