Thank you again for your insights,
I found this on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/Trezor-bitcoin-wallet-Black/dp/B00R6MKDDE/ref=sr_1_17?crid=2T90EZKP72YWZ&keywords=passport%2Bwallet%2Bcrypto&qid=1697642770&sprefix=passport%2Bwallet%2Bcrypto%2Caps%2C79&sr=8-17&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.b06bdbbe-20fd-4ebc-88cf-fa04f1ca0da8&th=1
Or should I use other sources?
I was told that after I download Electrum to "test" it, however I do not know how to do that. Any advice? I already downloaded the Windows installer from the suggested website ...
Thank you, and have a great day

The Trezor model one you link here is a bit pricey why not buy directly on Trezor which is cheaper?
Check the link below
- https://trezor.io/compare

About testing it and how to connect it with Electrum you can follow the guide below.

Or I think better wait for black friday this next month for promos and discounts I'm sure you can buy it cheaper than the current price today.
The price on Amazon.ca is in CAD, whereas the prices on the trezor site are in USD, hence the difference.
On Amazon.ca it is actually cheaper than on the Trezor site. 69USD on Trezor site = 109CAD with the today course, OK?

Thank you

63  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S19 95TH setup on: October 19, 2023, 01:05:29 PM
Hi,
I forgot to ask. How much bandwidth does my antminer S19 need? I found online that it would need 5Mbps, however I did not find something specifically related to my Antminer S19, OK?
I want to figure out if I should pull a network cable from the router (2nd floor) to the antminer (basement), or should I use 2 power outlet adapters?
Thank you

I was told that after I download Electrum to "test" it, however I do not know how to do that. Any advice? I already downloaded the Windows installer from the suggested website ...

You should test Electrum and practise yourself with this wallet by connecting it to testnet and using testcoins rather than real bitcoins. Internet is full of guides describing how to connect Electrum to testnet. Just quick search has resulted in this quide which  has steps for OS of you interest, i.e Windows .  To get testcoins you have to go to  one of the on-line faucets (like this https://testnet-faucet.com/btc-testnet/   ) that shares such coins,
I managed to do a transaction with test net, so thank you!
Please disregard my previous post.

Hi,
I tried what you said, and tried also the guide, however the instructions given there for Windows either do not cover Windows 11, or something is missing because I cannot create the wallet to testnet. I will try on another computer.
Thank you

Hi philipma,

I tried to find the pools you mentioned above, and for ckpool & kano pool the browser did not want to go there saying that they have malware.
The only one that worked somehow was the viabtc pool.
As I am a new miner (I will be in short time), do you recommend viabtc pool over the braiins one? I know that braiins is very old, and somehow respectable, however I do not know too much about the fees, and other things a pool might have. I am in the process of documenting myself til my antminer arrives.

Thank you
Braiins isn't that old.
The name is very recent, and the pool was bought from someone else long after a number of pools existed (including after my pool existed)
Since they bought the pool there have been, on a few occasions, issues about them paying out less than expected due to pool issues that they ignored.
They also are pushing transaction bias, which is very bad for bitcoin.
Hi かの,
I appreciate your reply, and I understand what you say, however when I tried to get to setup an account for your pool, I got a message from FireFox saying that there is malicious content ahead, and forbid me to get there. Would you please tell me what URL is the one for your pool? I tried the same thing, as you can see from my reply above, to get to ckpool, and I had the same issue.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you
You'll have to tell firefox to allow it.
Nothing I can do about firefox lying.
I understand.
Would you please be so kind and give me the URL for the pool so that I can try again?
Thank you

Hi,
My cold wallet is called "Ballet Real Bitcoin"
Thank you

It seems it's not a hardware wallet but a cold/paper wallet but I don't think that this wallet is safe to use because the private key is not generated by you but generated by them.
I can't guarantee how safe this wallet is this is the first time that I heard of this wallet.

The hardware wallet we talking about is a device with an LCD where your keys are stored.
To ensure the safety of your wallet I suggest make your cold storage wallet without 3rd party and don't use a paper/cold wallet like Ballet.

Or switch to a hardware wallet which is way better compared to a ballet wallet.
Check the list of hardware below.

You will need to read more about mining before you will start. Miners are using noncustodial wallet as the receiving payment, not a custodial wallet. There are many noncustodial wallet that you can use to generate bitcoin addresses which you can give for receiving mining payment. Examples are if you run your own full node, you can use bitcoin, or use normal wallet like Electrum.

you can keep the receptacle you will just need the plug that fits it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09WQVGNNR/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?

works with some dryer receptacles

and it would work with

 this cable
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C4YWYGS2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?

and this cable
https://www.amazon.com/IEC-C20-C13-Splitter-Cord/dp/B07J6S348C/ref=sr_1_5?

so wall outlet =1)

adatper I just linked =2)

l6 -30p to c19 cable =3)

c20 to spliter c13 = 4)

Thank you very much for your response philipma1957,
I already ordered the cables, and the outlet that you previously suggested, so I will see if I can find an electrician who would replace the existing outlet with the one you first suggested.
That adapter that you suggested  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09WQVGNNR/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1? would be interesting because then I would not need any electrician to help me with the work.
I will think about those two solutions. I need only to send back the outlet and order the adapter.
Have a great day

Either way should work.  let us know how it works out for you.
Thank you very much philipma1957

I also purchased a cold wallet, however I understood that for mining a warm one should be better, and the excess funds to transfer to the cold one, right?

Hi,
I will be a new miner soon and as I am documenting myself, I did not find anything about what wallet would be best to use, or where I could find wallets to use, OK?
I have accounts at cripto.com, and shakepay, and they have their wallets, so should I use those, or are there other alternatives.
Thank you
75  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Solo mining help on: October 15, 2023, 04:28:09 PM
As I said, the pool is for solo mining.
I don't insist anymore, topic of this user who asked a question did not receive any concrete answer, instead he got hints that he's using the wrong pool and he shouldn't be doing that.
I didn't expect that and that's why I commented in the first instance.

The problem is you are an unknown and we have had more than one small pool run away with a block.

The idea that a newbie asked how to use your pool could mean you have a second account and are using it to lure people into mining on your solo pool.

I am not saying you are a thief but why mine with your unknown pool. when

ckpool
kano pool
viabtc pool

all are known payers of solo.

The only way you are going to draw miners is you use an escrow service to back your pool for a block or 2.

I have 4ph I would never point it to your pool for fear of you running off.

Why risk a loss of 6.25 btc on your pool

You setup a solo group (on my pool Smiley )
Already had a few do that in the past.
Hi,
I am also about to get my antminer S19, and was wondering if I could use your pool, or should I use another one?
I made myself already an account at Braiins Pool, however I do not know if I should use it as a beginner or not.
I think I found your pool kanopool.is, I think, however the browser does not let me go and create an account. I am not sure if this is the correct one.

Hi,
I would have one other question.
The adapter you sent me the link of has 3 prongs, and my outlet has 4. Does it matter if I use all 4 prongs, or just 3?
For instance this one has 4 prongs:

Hey,

i am doing a similar setup as yours. Were you successful with the transformer?
Hi,
I actually quit the trafo solution as, from what I understood, it would get very hot, and become a fire hazard.
I got this information from several sources, so I opted in the end for the 220V line.

80  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S19 95TH setup on: October 12, 2023, 08:06:47 PM
Hi,
I am new to mining, and am about to get towards the end of the month a new Antminer S19 95TH, so, as I have some time to prepare/plan, I was wondering if I could get some advice on how to set it up:
- I was told that I need a separate line of 220V, however I was thinking to get a step-up trafo from 110 to 220V having 5000W. Is this OK?
- I understood that the antminer comes w/o any power cables, so I have to get 2 power cables (similar like those for PCs) from what I could see on its picture, correct?
- what software do I need in order to have it mine properly?
- in order to configure it, is it possible to connect it to a monitor and a keyboard?
- I saw on a tutorial video that the miner needs 2 cables, so would I also need a UPS to plug those cables?
- as sometimes most of tutorial videos are pretty old regarding pools, and software used, is it possible to get a link towards a more recent video?
- do I need a cold wallet? I have right now 2 wallets on Crypto and Shakepay, however I understood that more securely would be a cold wallet, so which one would be a good one to use?
I am going to consult also this forum and see what I can find as information.
Thank you

I assume you have a usa based home due to 120 volt power.

Transformers are hard on the wiring.

if you bump a 1 line 120volt  wire to 240 via a transformer then pull 5000 watts you will very likely melt it.

consult an electrician ask for a 220-240 volt line with a L6-30r receptacle

https://www.amazon.com/ELEGRP-Receptacle-Generator-Grounding-Industrial/dp/B08CXF9WDC/ref=asc_df_B08CXF9WDC?

it will need 10ga  wire and a 30 amp 2 pole circuit breaker.

like this https://www.amazon.com/Square-HomeLine-2-Pole-Circuit-Breaker/dp/B002YEJITO/ref=sr_1_4?

buy this cable
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C4YWYGS2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?

and this cable

https://www.amazon.com/IEC-C20-C13-Splitter-Cord/dp/B07J6S348C/ref=sr_1_5?

so

1) 30 amp 2 pole in your circuit box
2) l6-30r receptacle on the wall wire with 10 gauge wire
3) l6-30p to c19 10 gauge 10 foot cable
4) c20 to c13 that I listed.

Should be safe up to 4000 watts or easy peasy 1 s19

lastly do you have hard wired internet with eth cables?

Hi philipma1957,

Thank you very much for the useful information.
I checked again my situation in the basement, and found an outlet for 240V that was intended for an electric dryer, however because my actual dryer is on gas, this outlet remained unused.
The circuit is already on the electric panel and has a breaker, like for a dryer. Would this be enough?
Also I was thinking to use a plug for that outlet with a cable of about 6m that I will pull to a double outlet that I would mount on a wall. What do you think?
I think I will do this with an electrician to do all that cabling.
I have internet 1000Mbps in the house, so I would need a cat7 cable from the router (2nd floor) to the basement, to plug it into the Antminer, right?

Thank you again

most likely the plug will work as electric dryer 240volt lines draw a lot of power
Yeah, I would think that that outlet should be OK because as you said the electric dryer would draw a lot of power.
So you think that line should be OK?
Also, I would instead of the plug you suggested https://www.amazon.com/ELEGRP-Receptacle-Generator-Grounding-Industrial/dp/B08CXF9WDC/ref=asc_df_B08CXF9WDC? to use a plug fitting that outlet, right? The outlet is already there, so I was thinking that I should as well use it, no?
Thank you
