you really should read the official thread. They had/have a lot of issues with power supplies catching fire, etc.

Bitmain will give anyone free coupons if you ask them. Don't get scammed into buying them.

Personally as most others here have already done, we've gone the spondoolies route. SP20. But once again, do your research and don't believe what paid employees post.

Amazing prices from an amazing company  Roll Eyes

Don't be like that, they are just misunderstood Wink

They really need to change their name to have any chance. Or they need a cash cow farmer.

Where did you see such stats please?

One of a few places ... (speculation perhaps but the numbers look legit? We know they are working to get down to 0.2j/gh at 28nm, or lower)

oh deary me. not another one  Roll Eyes

firstly, I hope that no-one has sent money to that NL website
secondly, that's an awfully bad photoshopping job

and look! they sell 'cloud mining' too, now that's a surprise isn't it?

Well with Hanukkah fast approaching, perhaps they could give us a little information for the new year. Never hurts to ask!

he's winding you up. my guess is it'll not be 'til next summer, at least.

Perhaps for the generation after but the stats for the sp50 show 28nm 12th 6kw, so current gen with power savings. Hence assuming it shouldn't be too far away.

Where did you see such stats please?

MOD EDIT: Suspect link removed.

65  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Home mining makes a comeback: check out Spondoolies new offer, the Jackson SP20 on: December 08, 2014, 11:19:45 PM
Well I am waiting on my sp20 and of course it is now not shipped on the 18th but should ship by the 26th

On the AM side here is  another burnt prisma

To be fair if you read the posts about it he may have gotten the gear too cold. Thus when it started it was like ice to hot and crack a cap

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=795477.msg9590186#msg9590186

Dang, how cold are we talking about here?

Thermal shock OR condensate freezing on the boards. So just below 1c. Almost anything these days with a fan that has Fluid Dynamic Bearings are rated at 0c and above. For the simple reason the fan can actually seize and any electronics will therefore overheat, producing the magic smoke.
66  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: December 08, 2014, 11:11:29 PM
A friend also mentioned your local car junk yard, you can likely pick up sound deadening material that is really really fire proof. He used it for a generator enclosure.

Look forward to more pics!

apparently, Bitmain does not offer sending directly to Umisoo for hosting anymore. does anyone know why oe if there is a decent alternative? I'd like to order some more S4s, but it's impossible for me to host them.

Did bitmain or one of it's employees ever comment on this? Speculation was they were too dangerous to host.
68  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S3+ B11 boot problems on: December 08, 2014, 10:55:56 PM
Please post when you get it working. It will be interesting to know support times, repair times, shipping times and therefore overall down time.

SP50 announcement date?
71  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Custom Rigs... Hardware on: December 08, 2014, 10:35:44 PM
As mentioned by one of the large suppliers recently, they are operating at very very low overheads currently. When bitcoin was over US$600, it wasn't too difficult to manufacturer and research. If the price drops further, only those that have had a recent surge and funding (spondoolies), will come out ahead. They are all however operating on slim margins as it stands. Reason why none of the big chip players have jumped into the game.
72  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Unofficial Spondoolies SP20 thread on: December 08, 2014, 10:24:15 PM
.dogies guide is okay for the sp20

with my 4  the only downside to the sp20 is 1700 gh is hard to do.

to me if i built it and sold it I would call it a 1500 gh miner.

i would limit watts to 250 per pcie jack.

most of all i would optimize

settings for 175 watts per jack and try to see it do .5 to .55 at that watt setting.

i would use a fan that could go to the 30 setting for the under clockers

The other option would be to sell it with 2 settings. 1 home use at the lower 1400 GH end, the other, isolated room 1700 GH end.

Hopefully we will see sound levels with upcoming products. At the end of the day, ideally they should all be isolated from any living space. Even if it's a separate room for home mining regardless of noise levels.
73  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: December 08, 2014, 10:20:13 PM
I purchased and paid the X3 on 2013-11-30 (yes, in 2013!).

When is shipping?

This is so sad.

The moral to the story I suppose is have lawyers ready to fight for you if you pre-order. The exception being trustworthy companies that accept pre-orders but will compensate for missed dates. And then it's still a little risky.
74  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: USING 30amp DRYER pLUG and 6-20r connectors 240v help on: December 08, 2014, 10:15:23 PM
Whatever method you choose, be very careful with the interconnecting cables. Many "cheaper" offerings on sites like ebay have been selling copper cald aluminium (CCA, CCAW) cables. Whilst they work well for most computer power supplies and monitors, etc, when they work to supply miners at full power, they can heat up and even catch fire. Make sure they are solid copper or have a high rating. This is a large problem for cat5, cat5e, cat6 etc cabling and of recent, now on the power side also.

It would be nice to see someone comment on all the recent posts of miners failing, the RMA policies and so on. Besides the Prisma, whilst the competitors have announced unofficially there upcoming products, I am curious to see what will replace the Prisma.
76  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain not offering hosting anymore for S4 on: December 08, 2014, 10:00:40 PM
Bitmain is paying .35 cents a KW..... that is crazy... I pay .10 cents.. hosting, no thanks I get them shipped to me Cheesy.

At .35 cents/kw..  it is a money losing adventure.

I know bitmain lost their way with the u3 and c1 but really? I assume you meant to say 35 cents a KW not 0.35 cents? I can go as low as 1.8 cents but haven't found better.
77  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Unofficial Spondoolies SP20 thread on: December 08, 2014, 09:58:11 PM

A shame dogie's posts have been biased against Spondoolies.

Hope I'm in the right location for S4 technical help.
Any idea's if the unit arrived defective?

The new Antminer S4 arrived today. I purchased the required 16AMP cord and plugged it up and all fans came on.

However, while the LED “did” Illuminated but the DISPLAY DID NOT SHOW ANY CHARATERS. Total blank.
The 2 lights on the same LED component (red and green) DO NOT appear to be light up.

On the positive side, all fans run (load); the light next to the Power Button lights up green. and on the other side of the chassis, the Ethernet plug DOES light up with a solid yellow light and blinking green (which typically mean data is transmitting, right) however, the lighted display has NO TEXT.

I’m anxious to get the unit up and running but am hopeful your support can point out a quick fix.

:-(
Please advise.

You should contact bitmaintech directly. They offer little to no support in these forums other than announcing new products. Last post was the black friday post in November.
79  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: December 07, 2014, 05:58:47 PM
Received a DOA unit today. All it does is stay at that high pitched fan noise and doesn't connect to the network. I'd love to troubleshoot, but the lack of information is holding me back. Can I manually flash the firmware some how without accessing the unit via IP? Is there a hard reset button somewhere?

There is a serious problem here. I re-flash my rig back to defaults and now it is only hashing at 500GH/s. Also, Dogie's name was all over it. I have a feeling maybe someone knew it was bad hardware and someone didn't want it, so they shipped it out anyway.

Why can't these fucking things just work? I'm really starting to hate myself for trying to save a little money when I could of had a Spondoolie that could run an entire year without intervention. These things are like kids. They need constant attention and work just to get them running normal. Looks like I'm definitely going to RMA this paperweight back.

These were the pool settings that were in the rig before I had a chance to even flash it. So to top it off, it seems like it was a used piece of hardware also. And I could only wish to get that hash rate. Won't budge over 500.

And more bullshit. Since when did they start combining two fans into one connector??? Well, they fucked it up. Now both fans don't work. If you look closely you'll see that two fans are connected together using the same 3pin connector. Well, guess what? It doesn't work!!!! They either have a bad crimp or another crossed wire or just have no idea what their doing. That shit is going back to China and I sure as hell hope I get an UN-USED unit with proper wiring.

Are the brackets for the 2nd fan in that pic broken?

Just ignore dogie's response and try to get someone from bitmain direct to answer you. ie someone who can give you a real answer. replying to dogie's responses will get you no where.

Unfortunately Bitmain's S1 days are gone.  They no longer make rock solid items.

I may get one more C1 (or C2?) one day if the price is low enough, just to have more water cooled gear for backup purposes.  Otherwise it seems Bitmain has lost their way and it's unlikely they'll be getting anymore of my business.

M

Agreed, bitmain have lost their way. Employing people like dogie make it worse since all they can do is tell you to RMA or wait for them to find out a solution to your problem. In the mean time you are losing each day the miner is offline. The best offering is by far the spondoolies sp20. Dogie tries to talk it down since he isn't employed by them, so just ignore his comments. But if you check out the recent threads, like philipma's, he and many others are loving them for their underclocking and therefore long life expectancy due to the low power they use when underclocked. Don't take my word or nodogie's check the threads by others.
