How loud is S4 in comparison with S2? Much louder or almost the same?
Is it a low pitch (vrooom) or hight pitch (whiiiiiine) sound?
Sound is the second most important part re miners in my household.
I try to maintain domestic peace.

OK, but it is NOT a scientific assessment. How many dB (decibels) they produce?
There is a free Android/apple app that measures dB.

70ish from 1.5 metres away. 90ish if you have 4 running full fan speed behind you... at least that's what my iphone says.

I have tried that several times.  I am using a new class 10 card, it loads the files on the disk, put it in the miner and just loud fans. But it is drawing 300 watts at the wall.

A member here sent me an img file for the c1.  It copied over perfect, I was able to read the files on my PC, and the C1 started hashing.  It had Dogies pools in it but that was easy to change.  I was also configured for another IP I found that on my modem, and away we go.

Could someone send me a img file of a working S4

Barbara
Do you have another working S4 that you could copy that image from and the  flash to another Sd card? Those firmware updates on Bitmain  should work however.
EDIT ..I downloaded an archive of my current configuration settings on the S4 but I don't think that will work to flash the card

Yes the S4's are loud and moving  a lot of air but the machines run way cooler that the S3's

Hope I'm in the right location for S4 technical help.
Any idea's if the unit arrived defective?

The new Antminer S4 arrived today. I purchased the required 16AMP cord and plugged it up and all fans came on.

However, while the LED “did” Illuminated but the DISPLAY DID NOT SHOW ANY CHARATERS. Total blank.
The 2 lights on the same LED component (red and green) DO NOT appear to be light up.

On the positive side, all fans run (load); the light next to the Power Button lights up green. and on the other side of the chassis, the Ethernet plug DOES light up with a solid yellow light and blinking green (which typically mean data is transmitting, right) however, the lighted display has NO TEXT.

I’m anxious to get the unit up and running but am hopeful your support can point out a quick fix.

:-(
Please advise.

I know this one, open up the case, inside you will find a SD card.  Pull out the card an push it back in to reset it. That worked for me and a lot of others.

You should contact bitmaintech directly. They offer little to no support in these forums other than announcing new products. Last post was the black friday post in November.

Correct. The SD card shifted during shipment and just needs to be removed and re inserted. Then reboot. When the S4 fires up and the red light comes on that means it is reading the SD card.

Remove the 6 screws on top, lift cover straight up and you will find the SD card. Push it in slightly, then it will pop out.
EDIT Also when the S4 fires up it will read the SD card, red light will flash, then the screen will show IP and speed etc. It takes maybe 60 seconds after rebooting for the red light to flash.

Good job brother. If you over or under clock let us know what settings you are trying. I have had my S4's up to 2400GH.

apparently, Bitmain does not offer sending directly to Umisoo for hosting anymore. does anyone know why oe if there is a decent alternative? I'd like to order some more S4s, but it's impossible for me to host them.

Did bitmain or one of it's employees ever comment on this? Speculation was they were too dangerous to host.

I just flashed all S4's with initramfs.bin.SD-20141016.tar.gz and gained about 5% or more in hashing speeds at the pool.

Haven't heard that one either, I was thinking (pure speculation) maybe saving room for the S5's? did email them but haven't heard back yet.

Bitmain ask customer to pay for shipping cost.
