61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: October 02, 2015, 10:26:25 AM
Exchanges that get requests from the community (some of them have even their request coin section) are more inclined to add a new coin, so please do submit requests to add Factoids to your favourite exchanges.
In the meantime the team will also reach out to some of the exchanges to request support for Factoids.
We hear you and act upon feedback. We can't guarantee we'll be on an exchange soon but we will try our best.

62  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: October 01, 2015, 04:05:02 PM

Maybe bleutrade.com would add this coin. They figured out how to add ethereum based coins.

It's amusing to me that every other coin on this forum gets added to exchanges within days, yet FACTOM who has raised plenty of funds doesn't seem to be making any effort at all.

Not rushing is not the same as not making effort... look how far along ETH is years later. The scam/copy coins get listed in day. actual projects take time.

My point is more that there's apparently not a huge draw to FACTOM for exchanges to make it a priority.  That was not the case with ETH, once it was released, it was picked up by exchanges pretty quickly and they even implemented the ability to import keys.  I'm not seeing that here, I wish I were.

We have had exchanges reach out to us... quite a few, and we hope that over time Factoids will be available on some of them.
We understand the community likes exchanging and trading coins, we don't disagree with that, however we also have our own priorities which are concentrated on development of our platform.

We have working code, up to exchanges to make it work on their platforms. The main aim of Factoids is to allow for entries on the blockchain.
The exchanges we are in touch with and we mentioned them previously: Cryptsy and ShapeShift, are working on it, they also have priorities of their own.

seriously.... in times when every scam shitcoin puts out a wallet your are not able to asseblme some useful GUI?

Work in progress a GUI Wallet App is in the making. In the meantime our binaries are available.
Factom is not a clone of another project where copying someone elses wallet takes 5 minutes.

The team is aware a easier to use wallet needs to be released.

Is there a Factom slack channel?

No there isn't one. Any question should be directed to hello@factom.org.

We have release Factom binaries for Mac, Windows, and Linux together
with installers so to make it easier for the community to run our software.

Our latest Technical Update is out, we'll be integrating Docker next week to make it easier to run Factom Software and we are over 1200 blocks so far!
Read more about it on our blog:

Does that mean the wallet will be ready next week? If not, is there an ETA?

The wallet is ready since the genesis block went live, even before that. It's on GitHub: https://github.com/FactomProject.
You need to run various pieces like factomd, fctwallet and factom-cli to use your Factoids.
It is command line for the moment. What we are releasing next week is an easier way to run the three apps I mentioned above but still in command line.
A GUI wallet will be available in the near future. Our devs are working as hard as they can to deliver.

This coin is too centralized for me. I don't see it becoming a success because of the centralized mining structure.

This is because you are biased from the results of all the near pointless altcoins.

In the real world, with actual projects that need ongoing maintenance and improvement, giving developers a longterm stake is actually more aligned incentive wise. The developers get paid in proportion to the value they bring to the project. Once the people who run the project have salaries not paid in stake, that is when you have nothing but altruism to rely on or a need to maintain one's credibility.

However all these weirdo POW miner types have this weird sense of entitlement. Their logic is this - Since the first blockchain relies on POW every other blockchain should rely on POW ... just because.

How annoying.

I don't think you understand what factom is. It's mining (PoW or PoS doesn't matter)... but only 8 centralized miners are allowed to mine. These centralized miners will obtain 50% of all factoids created.

This centralization will allow Factom to modify blockchains and create forks easily. This is why I don't understand what this project is. If I wanted my data backed up 8 times redundant I could hash my data myself and host it on Google who would probably offer better redundancy to my data.

Nothing on Factom can be trusted because it's centralized.

For the next project, I would rather the public raise funds for salaries as the project goes a long. No need to hand out golden parachutes to obtain developers. Raise funds every year and create more XCP tokens to give investors.

This will probably go down as the dumbest crypto idea that the public got tricked into buying yet. Amazingly, the public will only be receiving 25% of all Factoids.

We don't think you understand how Factom works either Smiley
There will be 32 Factom Federated Servers when the network goes live and none will be managed by Factom but elected by users of the platform not by us.

Apart from the whitepaper you should read our consensus paper also available on our GitHub.

thanks for the good documentation regarding factom community install guide - it worked fairly well, even though I had to install a virtual box and was using linux/ubuntu for the first time.

next questions: do I have to somewhat import the a private key? (I assume I do not have to) and is there a proper documentation on how to send tokes purchased during the crowdsale?

We will soon be releasing a step by step guide with the next update on how to use the Wallet.
Until then all is available is on GitHub. Our Devs are working as fast as they can.

can we have a step by step guide on windows wallet how to?
 Embarrassed

Work in progress, the team is working on binaries which should make it easier for people to use the wallet.
Shouldn't be much longer and there will be a step by step guide.

Are we expecting exchanges to integrate Factoids any time?

With the current software exchanges as well as anyone else is free to work with Factoids.
It' up to the exchanges to implement our latest code and support Factoids.
We have had interest from Cryptsy and ShapeShift and a number of other exchanges but we don't have control on when they decide to support Factoids.
It's entirely up to them.

For the moment: http://www.dcxtx.com/ allows you to buy Factoids and Entry Credits as well as selling them: https://www.dcxtx.com/PriceList.aspx.

We are pleased to announce our new app binary which makes it easy to check your Factoid Balance using the Factom Explorer.
Available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Dear Factom Team,

for windows users: Do I have to run other services before starting the keymaker or is this a stand alone tool?

After using the keymaker tool I would like to move the factoids to other wallets to ensure that I'm the only one who knows the passphrase. How can I do this an a windows machine (generating a new address/wallet and transfer factoids from one address to an other)?

Thanks for your efforts, you are doing great work!

The Keymaker only allows you to generate a Factoid address from your Koinify passphrase and using the Factom Explorer to see its balance.
To transfer Factoids around you need the software currently on GitHub which also contains a wallet. It is command line for the moment.

As Paul Snow mentioned above it shouldn't be much longer until we have an easier to use version of the wallet.
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: September 04, 2015, 06:20:23 PM
We have a quick app that we will release tomorrow that you can simply download and convert your 12 words into a factoid address.  Then you can put the factoid address into the Factom Explorer and see your balance.

The Factom CLI (the command line wallet) will  then let you create and send factoid transactions.

Exchange integration is now our big effort, along with getting a GUI wallet released.   This is all coming together over the next few weeks.

Paul Snow

Has Factom CLI been released?  How to get factoid saved in koinify and make transactions?

Factom CLI is out and available on our GitHub and there is a new Factom Keymaker app to check your Factoid Balance.

We are hard at work to deliver easier to use tools. Won't be long.

So has the Factom blockchain launched yet? It is possible to buy Factoids publicly yet?

The genesis has launched, Factoids will be available on exchanges when they get their software up to date with the latest version and of course if they want to support Factoids.
79  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: September 03, 2015, 12:15:06 AM
Not to worry about it guys. Factom has all the Factoids purchased on Koinify in the genesis block.
All you will need is the Koinify wallet passphrase to claim them.

We will release an announcement and instructions on how to do so as we progress with the genesis soft launch.

We are thrilled to announce the Factom Live Genesis will be rolled out this week.
This will be a step by step launch where the Factom client and related software is released over the course of the coming weeks.
The 1st federated server will go live with the Genesis block, then Factom beta testers / early adopters can begin downloading the
Factom Genesis client to their computers, then the broader community can begin checking their Factoid balances on the Factom
Explorer website and users can begin making entries into the Factom Network.

Some more news
The Plug and Play Accelerator, Factom and BitPesa have partnered with nonprofits, the BitGive Foundation and The Water Project.
As a pilot project, they are using Factom tech and the blockchain to create radical transparency in how donor funds are being used
in Africa to provide safe water. By tracking donations through the blockchain and Factom, they aim to introduce a new level of
transparency that will bring real-time assurances that money donated to accomplish a particular mission are doing just that.
