61  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining rig extraordinaire - the Trenton BPX6806 18-slot PCIe backplane [PICS] on: February 22, 2013, 06:47:29 PM
Hello rjk,

Your rig is looking really nice!

Quick question on your setup. Which driver(s) are you using? Is the driver causing the 11 GPU limitation? I believe I read somewhere that the AMD drivers could only handle 8 GPUs but your rig has proven otherwise, kudos!
I don't think it's a driver limit because I don't have any drivers loaded. I am just listing the PCI devices, which as far as I know does not require a driver. That's why I'm pretty sure it's a BIOS limit. There will of course be a driver limit, likely still of 8 devices, which is why I was planning on using VT-d and PCIe passthough with some virtual machines, but I didn't get very far on that.

A research group from the University of Antwerp managed to get 13 GPUs on one ASUS motherboard. They confirm the limitation is BIOS related as you mentioned. The group ended up customizing the BIOS and hacking the Linux kernel.

kickass is there a video of this?

Hello 420,

Sorry for my late reply,

The system is called Fastra II: http://fastra2.ua.ac.be/

63  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER GPU FPGA overclock monitor fanspeed RPC linux/windows/osx/mip/r-pi 2.7.5 on: September 23, 2012, 03:18:12 PM
Hello,

I've been testing Windows 8 Consumer Preview but I am having a few issues getting cgminer 2.7.4 working properly.

Main problem: While running cgminer, I get spammed with "New block detected on network before longpoll" ( 1000s of these displaying the same exact time) and the hashrate begin to slowly decrease over time (drops from 550 Mh/s to 350 Mh/s per GPU after about an hour or so).

Minor problem: I am unable to get cgminer running with 5 GPUs, it doesn't even work with "cgminer -n". The OS, catalyst, MSI Afterburner, GPU-Z all recognize the 5 GPUs.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Probably set the CGMiner intensity to dynamic, that way you can mine and give priority to oclhashcat when lolwut needs it.

There is no single solution which meets the needs of every single service provider.  That being said having a hotwallet with 100% of the funds is simply inexcusable.   More than anything else it is sad.   Bitfloor was growing rapidly and was a great source of liquidity outside of MtGox (which is important IMHO).  It is destroyed now and honestly shtylman is better than that.

Agreed.  If Roman really learns as much as possible from this, let others review his security procedures, he can build the most secure exchange out there.  Large withdrawals may not be instant, who cares, at least they are safe.  If I deposit 1000 BTC with him, I want to trade it, not withdraw it back out immediately.

+1 I agree with BitPay(Tony?)

On another note, it might be possible to raise funds with a bond or equity (preferred shares, maybe?) issue. Not sure about the legality, regardless BitFloor will absorb the lost coins but at least your customers will be satisfied imo.

I'm not sure why an unencrypted wallet would reside on an unencrypted disk but...

BitFloor should continue operations. Get rid of the Cloud though.

BitFloor will make up the lost coins in due time with regular operations.
67  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitfloor down on: August 31, 2012, 08:44:18 PM
Bummer. Are any of the principals of bitfloor able to give us an ETA for uptime?

It seems as if Shtylman is working on bringing the site back up now:

"Bitfloor Website
 Is currently offline.

 It will be back shortly.
support@bitfloor.com"

Hmm.. I didn't know that BTC-e supported Dwolla...

I've never done fiat withdrawals at BTC-e so I can't confirm. The FAQ section on their website has these two questions and replies:

" Do you accept any alternate forms of payment such as Debit/Credit Cards and Liberty Reserve?

At this time, BTC-e is currently not accepting any of these payment methods. All transactions carried out on our website are irreversible; therefore use of payment methods that are reversible would be a detrimental venture for us. The presently supported payment methods are : US Bank Wire, EU Bank Wire (SEPA), Liberty Reserve, Visa, Mastercard, Liqpay.com, unikarta.com, PerfectMoney.com, WebCreds.com, Ukash.com, Webmoney.ru. "

" Do you fulfill any requests to send money or carry out currency exchanges via government fiat?

Unfortunately, we do not fulfill any such requests. We choose to carry out business using registered companies such as Western Union, Dwolla, and other well-known financial companies to carry out our transfers. "

...so it's not clear.

72  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CaVirtex down, again? on: August 04, 2012, 02:19:12 AM
I think it's more serious. According to twitter, it was hacked, and they've lost $630,000+

http://twitter.com/#!/search/cavirtex

Twitter is just twitter - but an outage in the middle of the day certainly sounds fishy.

The platform might not be able to handle the volume. The exchange was really busy today.

Hopefully, it's not a "hack". Any word on how many coins were stolen?

Someone has accidentally fatfingered the "Buy it all" button.   Cheesy
74  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [ANN]New Bitcoin exchange - Bitcurex.com on: August 03, 2012, 01:47:17 PM
This is a separate exchange, the bitcoin wallet is not connected with EUR and PLN market, for security reasons.

eh, boo!  Cry Cheesy

What type of security reasons would require this? (sorry, I'm not a techie)
MtGox, Intersango, etc lets me trade EUR and PLN with the same account.

Nice work on the Bitcurex exchange so far btw.
75  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: To the owner of Mt. Gox acct #118721- can I have my money back please? on: August 03, 2012, 01:13:58 PM
Well dude looks like you aren't getting your money back.  Kind of a big mistake on your part, but any financial business should have the kind of customer service that gets you your money ASAP and works out the issue behind the scenes for themselves.  Too bad these businesses are so new that customer service is not yet #1 priority for them.  Hopefully you didn't lose too much.

I resent that. You have no idea what needs to go on in order to get the funds back for this customer who sent it to the wrong account. We have to chase after the person who has the funds and get everyone to agree. The fact I exchanged many and many emails and posted on this thread shows we have the best customer service. Please try our service before making comments about our supprt.

Asking the other account holder for permission to remove funds that don't belong to him is bullshit.  It wasn't his money to provide permission to remove from his account.  Mt Gox should have froze or removed the funds immediately from the other account holder upon your confirmation that this was a valid issue.  They should have provided you the go ahead to reimburse user or send funds to real account at the same point. Obviously your going to come back and say there is all kinds of red tape that needs to be addressed to obtain funds.  That's fine, but reimburse customer immediately while you and Mt. Gox work that out.  That would be considered the best customer service.

User who made a mistake loses on this rally while his funds are tied up with red tape.  And Yes I know at the end of the day it is his fault for making the mistake with account number.

I agree with officialsavage on this issue. This situation happens with banks all the time but once the customer or the bank employee realizes the error, the bank fixes the transaction without permission from anyone. I'm not sure which laws or rules apply but it is Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for banking.

This might be a little tricky for MtGox accounts with no real identity other than a username or email address but CYA...

Shtylman, what is your relationship with Bruce Wagner? Does Bruce Wagner have any vested interest in Bitfloor Inc.?

No relationship; he lives a few blocks away so we chat every once in a while Smiley

What do you mean by vested interest? He is not a stakeholder, just a user. Maybe he has personal reasons for seeing some US based exchanges grow since he deals with Bitcoins and runs a site to sell them to end users.

I will add that I think the fascination users on these forums have over Bruce Wagner is quite bizarre. From what I have witnessed, all he has done is try to heavily promote bitcoin and give it more public exposure (which unfortunately I see very few in this community doing actively). Regardless of what you may think of his show, it is important to educate new users and understand their needs and Bruce was one of the people I know actively talking to physical merchants in New York when no one else was.

Thanks for the reply Shtylman,

I like everything you've done at bitfloor so far. One of the reasons I have avoided using your platform is because, as Mathew M. Wright posted earlier, I too believe Bruce Wagner is a stakeholder in bitfloor.

Bruce Wagner is probably a really nice guy but he is also convicted of financial crimes in the U.S. It's unlikely that any individual convicted of a financial crime would get cleared to operate as an MSB so using others is their best option.

Eventually, bitfloor will have the #2 spot in BTC trade volume. Before the "hacks" begin I just wanted to get this out of the way because exchanges at #2 have a terrible track record.

Thank you.

Hi, just a question I transfered 1.98 BTC last night and it still has 0/6 confirmations.
Any idea on what the problem is/how to resolve? I have never seen a transaction take so long to even confirm 1 stage

hmm...This is strange. Can you post the transaction id?
