68  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Does anyone know of a good mobile wallet that can sign/verify messages? on: December 07, 2015, 06:11:57 AM
Ok so I just downloaded it and wrote down my master seed, and was looking through the settings and the only thing that I would think would act as signing a message is where it says "export diagnostical data". Is that how you should sign a message through there? I haven't tried it just in case it would mess up anything.
No. I have tried Mycelium and Hive, they are the larger wallets and it seems like they do not allow the signing of the message. Coinbase does on their WebUI, perhaps you can try that. Sorry for the confusion, Mycelium android allows the signing of the message.

Man, that a shame.. Was pretty excited about that. But what's the purpose of signing a message through a web based wallet if you don't even have the private keys that control your bitcoins anyways? I guess I'll just have to stick using my desktop wallet to do that sort of thing and/or wait to get an android when the time comes to enjoy that ability to sign on your phone.

Mycelium wallet allows it's user to sign message (at least for android). Coinbase allows it's users to sign a message using their address but there are restrictions on which service you can spend the coins in their wallet on.

I'll test the wallet using my iPhone and I'll let you know about others.

Awesome! Thanks for the response. I'll go ahead and download/test it too. If I have any questions I'll be sure to get back to you.

So I was looking through the types of wallets I could have on my iOS here and didn't come across a wallet that has the ability to sign and verify messages. Since I'm always away from home it seems like, it would be nice to find a way to be able to get me own wallet on my phone that I could prove I have the private keys too on my phone. Does anyone know of any good wallets that could do this? Maybe an online wallet would have to do?

Hey guys... so I made my first purchase using poloniex (usually I just use shapeshift) and I just tried to withdraw while using the payment ID and everything.  I've been waiting like 10 minutes now and I still haven't seen it in mymonero or on the block explorer, should I be worried?

I haven't used Polo in a while but as I remember it they send a confirmation email which you have to verify.  I don't believe withdrawals are instant although I remember them being quick.  No need to use a payment ID when sending to yourself, was the Payment ID generated by MyMonero?

Edit: the post I replied to was removed.  I assume the Monero was received.

nioc is correct but I want to clarify the purpose of the payment id so you understand why some use it (like exchanges) while others do not.  If two people owe you exactly 100xmr and both claim they paid you but you only received one transaction for 100xmr how do you know which person paid you?

Asking someone to include a payment ID (like an exchange requests for deposits) allows you to easily connect the payment with the person you provided that payment ID.

When you are sending xmr to yourself from an exchange you know where the xmr came from and probably don't need a payment ID.

I guess I'm a little slow when learning these things, but wouldn't you always want to include a payment ID when conducting business with someone in that case?  Even in regards to sending a payment to yourself from an exchange... if you don't include the payment ID when transacting XMR to your wallet, regardless of where it's coming from, wouldn't you always want to include it so you can be able to see it on the blockchain just for reassurance purposes?  Is there an advantage for leaving out the payment ID in some cases? Etc.

Yeah, I guess I was just getting worried since I have never used the site before.

But I have another question that struck me.

So I thought when you receive XMR your address will change every time?  Well the wallet address for mymonero has been the same since I created it... any reason for that?
74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 19, 2015, 09:27:46 PM

I was necessarily promoting to buy gold or anything. I was just saying based on the past history, any legit form of currency is backed by gold or silver. When the fiat system collapses, you need some kind of ratio to judge how much something is worth.. I think it will be gold

I think bitcoin is the new benchmark.

You cannot have a commodity basket because they are all manipulated, to my knowledge bitcoin has small manipulation and decreasing volatility.

Despite scammers, looks like the gold certificate scam is far bigger than any crypto scam can imagine to be.

Are you serious? Bitcoin has no volatility as of right now in your opinion? It went from 240 to 500 in less than a month. Gold has its up and downs, but it's kind of hard to manipulate the market with gold as much as Bitcoin. Plus I agree with you that the gold certificates ended up being one huge scam... Though gold doesn't increase in price 100%+ in less than a month either.

How in your mind is price volatility evidence of manipulation? Is it not possible that an asset is simply volatile for no other reason than normal changes in demand or sentiment? (This is not to say that Bitcoin isn't manipulated, but volatility itself doesn't prove it.)

Also, is it not possible that manipulation takes the form of lower volatility?

So I'm not a master in the theory of economics, but I understand the fundamental basics.  When I think of market manipulation, I think price manipulation.  I never really thought of it being something other than that.  But because the price of gold is/has been insanely stable through the course of humanity (in regards to purchasing power), I believe that if the fiat system were to collapse and moves toward cryptocurrencies, that there would have to be something tangible to relate to the prices of cryptos whether that be Bitcoin, Monero, or any other crypto that comes out in the future.... or at least I would assume that's how it would work.

Hey Seconds Trade...

So as of right now, I'm incredibly busy and just wanted to formally let you know that I will have to resign from the campaign for right now.  Maybe sometime later in the future I could possibly rejoin, but thanks for the campaign this far.

Thanks.

Hey, just letting you know I've ranked up to member and was seeing if you can update the my info on the spreadsheet... thanks.

Edit: So I noticed I'm not on the campaign any more for some reason and didn't receive a pay out for last week? What happened?

Secondstrade, I need to know if I have been kicked out of the campaign or not... I have never posted spam nor I have never removed the signature; this has been the second week I have not received payments.  I'll wait for now, but just curious as to what happened?
