61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stop calling Bitcoin 'virtual' or 'digital' currency. on: June 07, 2013, 01:58:23 PM
To do this then we must address the larger issue in the room, acceptance.  Right now a minor number of individuals are using bitcoins and I would have to say that we are at a time where there is minimal growth of acceptance and or use of the coin.  The value of a bitcoin currently from what I am seeing is reflecting this with it stable and minor reductions in price over time as difficulty (which should correlate with availability of new coins) increases.  Just like the dollar the only value any of these instruments provide is in its ability to conduct transactions and the number of instruments required to do so.

We saw with the run up that bitcoin was used to solve a regional issue and so the number of bitcoins on the street sank while the price increased, a basic supply and demand situation.  What I see us lacking at this time is increased demand.  Without that demand you cannot change minds because you lack the audience to do so.
Call this what you will but at the end of the day they are all instruments and the only value any of it brings is its ability to conduct transactions at the greatest value.  That is why so many countries use the US Dollar not because of the physical fact but all of the different values associated with the item.  Take for instance Burma and the fact the they not only trade in black market dollars but they even put a value on the physical quality of the actual paper note.  People use dollars, yen, pounds and other instruments in many ways and once you have that kind of influence then you can command the changing of minds.

So in conclusion if you want folks to think about bitcoins in some other light then we as a community must tackle acceptance with a greater passion or this entire venture will be a foot note in the history books.

Sure, love the beach.  If you pick a weekday can we go for afternoon and at the beginning or end of the week?  Getting in and out of LA is hell so if I plan to go it will be a big chunk of time since I will wait for traffic to calm down after rush time.
63  Other / Politics & Society / Article: Bitcoin Group seeks to double staff - to four on: June 05, 2013, 08:49:30 PM
So I am posting this not because it is written well or is great in anyway but what you should note is where it was published.  Computerworld is a major government IT mag so it is interesting to see it posted there.  Also it was put in their print mag which is how most government folks read this stuff, ha ha.

Cool, well as soon as my coins come back from Pirate40, which should be any day now, I will have the funds to send of your coins to place and order.  Keep up the good work.
65  Economy / Speculation / Re: Time for another bull move on: May 14, 2013, 03:39:26 PM
In 3 days everything that everybody in this thread before me has said will be proven wrong.

Mild resistance at $80, strong resistance at $70. Once 70 is broken there will be almost no resistance down to $50.

From there comes highly volatile times, before a phase of stability for almost 3 months, after which a new bubble will begin to form.

Mid January 2014 will see the peak of the bubble at absolutely insane highs, but with a new asian crypto-coin gaining in popularity the bubble pops before February begins.

Just asking but "new asian crypto-coin" are you talking about one of the new ones now or TBD?
66  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitBox New Bitcoin Exchange on: May 05, 2013, 10:11:37 PM
With Bitfloor being gone I will say it is interesting to see a new exchange but right now I will need to see some more activity about your service.  Also only being able to do BTC or wire transfers is not a solid option compared to MtGox/Dwolla or the way Bitfloor had ING.  Get somthing that works like that and we will see.

Nice looking site too,

I find it suspicious, that every person (almost) who has received a unit then creates a YouTube video.. Nice signature as well: 60 GH/s BFL Single SC - Pre-Order Yours Today!
`````` Only $1299.99 - butterflylabs.com ``````
Here, have a tinfoil hat.
He has a point about the signature, though.  It not 'tin-foil hat' realm to wonder about that.
Ok well to be 100%, that signature was for the BFL contest they had a while back and I have not removed it and don't really care to.  I don't even post here much anymore because its not worth the time.  I figured I would spread the word that someone got an ASIC item from BFL.  Take it for what you want but I know I am hashing now and hope to be hashing more later on.
69  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Guess who’s got two thumbs and Jalapeno…….this guy…. on: April 28, 2013, 12:09:39 AM
Neat!  Do you have a kill-a-watt or some other way to measure the wattage draw?
No, I really should have one and where I live I am not sure where to get one quickly.  Sorry I know a lot of people are asking how much power is it taking and I really should double check that.
70  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Guess who’s got two thumbs and Jalapeno…….this guy…. on: April 28, 2013, 12:07:20 AM
Did you recieve yours just because you are a reviewer (are you one?)?  Seems like BFL only ships out to those who give them free PR...  Roll Eyes
Nope I am not a reviewer, I do like BFL but I am a customer.  Most people from what I have seen would need a video to back up any claims that I got one.  I figured I would show people what I got and since I was one of the first that is why I did what I did.
71  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Guess who’s got two thumbs and Jalapeno…….this guy…. on: April 27, 2013, 09:18:56 PM
And so it begins..
Well it is a relief to see a non-developer running one finally.
I ordered early march so ... it'll be a while i guess  Embarrassed
Hope not, I think BFL is going to really start cranking so hope you see yours soon.  These seem a whole lot better then the FPGA singles.
72  Bitcoin / Hardware / Guess who’s got two thumbs and Jalapeno…….this guy…. on: April 27, 2013, 09:10:03 PM
So about two days ago I got an email from BFL saying my Jalapeno was on the way.  I was a first day order and I only ordered one for fun since I was more focused on the singles, who knew.  So today my Jalapeno showed up and so I took some video and pictures of the device before I opened it, what came in the box and then it running on my system.  The video is at Youtube at the links below.  I am not going to take it apart because I want to see how it runs and I would like to see how it holds up compared to the FPGA as in how well it operates from BFL without my interfering with it.  In the second video you notice that the fan noise is really bad that is not from the Jala it is from all the other gear.  The Jala sounds really quite and I am really impressed on how cool it runs as is.  Also I made a mistake and the Jala is mining at 5.1 and not 5.5 but I am happy.  This unit just runs great out of the box so far but I will say that the bottom is very warm.
Open the box
Can’t wait for the singles because it is great to have an ASIC running!
74  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Unclaimed bitcoins......... on: February 27, 2013, 05:52:05 PM
I do like what you all are writing and I really think an answer is either not possible or very hard but I think it is worth thinking about because this could turn out to be a lot of money later on down the road.  I also think this will raise ethical and operational issues too.
Thanks for the input so far.
75  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Unclaimed bitcoins......... on: February 27, 2013, 05:00:42 PM
So I have a question for you all.  Has anyone thought about how many bitcoin's that have been created and have not circulated due to folks using services like instawallet and forgetting to book mark or forgetting passwords to wallets and the amounts so small they just leave them?  I know this is a very big and massive question but I was just thinking that with so many coins out now that are being held it would be interested to come up with an estimate are held due to basically being lost.  The other question I have about this is with services like instawallet where folks may visit and forget how can they sweep those accounts to get the coins back out?  They may not due to ethics but also by having them it makes their value look bigger.
I just find it interesting with so many ways to handle bitcoins what are the possible ways to account for or exercise those coins?
