@Sabercat - How much did you pay to upgrade the power in your garage to support a dozen Avalons in there?

not much. i just had to buy a few more breakers.  200 amp service is standard in this area.  i had everything else. 6 outlets 12 gauge wire - 240v each. my fuse panel is only 3 feet from them.

true. I've got a dozen running in my garage and even with it being cold out its hard to keep them cool without opening the overhead door. I've got all my windows open, but they make a LOT of heat.

thats going to generate a lot of heat. hope you have windows you can leave open or plan on leaving the garage door open.

Mine are the 750w Dell that are running fast and using heavier gauge wire as well.  I have a few different types of server PSU's and will try to get the data up.  Also, when raising the fan you WILL get lower hash rate, at least that is my experience on the 6-8 miners I tried it on.  Lastly, I did down clock to 325 from the default of 500 and it ran at 3.0 Th on 4 different machines.  Unfortunately my replacement Kill A Watt showed up today and I messed with frequency yesterday but will try and get some data up on that as well.

It would be good to try and understand if the lower hash rate is directly related to setting the fan speed or a consequence because of the resultant lower temperature?

Rich

yeah so would I

I get  weird results but I am convinced the software senses  the volts input and no matter what you do on freq it  auto sets the freq that has very low hw's.

I did extensive volt settings with the meanwell and it basically follows the volts

set volts at 13 it hashes over 4000
set volts at 10 it hashes really low  and the power per gh stays around .28 to .31 watts  a gh

Kind of disappointing and until they change software I am not going to get any more.

I really wanted to do 10 volts   at .2 efficiency

Im curious how you get it to run at over 13 volts. I've played with a couple and they wont give me a green light over 12.5 volts. and that leaves me at 12.2-12.3 under load.

well thats certainly interesting. i wonder why a chip performs better at a certain temp. Goes against what I've always thought.

great! glad i could help out.

sorry to Notlist3d for all this in your thread. We should have taken it to pm. Might help someone else though.

there is a jumper plug in a clear bag. that goes on the other end and connects the green wire to ground, which tells the psu to turn on.

the black 24 pin jumper plug that tells the psu to turn on. should be in the box with the cables.
69  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 28, 2015, 10:51:50 PM
do you have the jumper plugged in?
70  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 28, 2015, 10:45:05 PM
what psu? if you have voltmeter check the pcie connectors and see what the voltage is. Does the psu even turn on?
71  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 28, 2015, 10:39:13 PM
it will run no matter what. it just wont hash without cgminer.
72  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 28, 2015, 10:33:07 PM
whats the miner do when you turn on the psu? It should go through an initialization where the fan runs and the lights on the back flash and change colors.
73  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 28, 2015, 10:21:12 PM
does the miner turn on at all?
74  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 28, 2015, 09:46:31 PM
whats the lights on the back of the avalon doing? and do you have cgminer setup to wherever your going to mine? also whats the cgminer api log say?
75  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 28, 2015, 08:23:42 PM
good deal. i'll help any way i can. I just got the crash course on this myself over the last few days.
76  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 28, 2015, 06:35:41 PM
here's what i'd try. unhook everything except hdmi.
flash this image: http://downloads.canaan-creative.com/software/avalon6/openwrt/latest/openwrt-brcm2708-sdcard-vfat-ext4.img

power up rpi and see if it boots.
77  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 28, 2015, 06:25:40 PM
what lights come on, on the pi?
78  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 28, 2015, 06:05:24 PM
hook up to a monitor and start up the pi. make sure its booting up and then its easy to walk you through from there. i had no luck with the pre-flashed pi's and installed the image from avalons ftp and set it to dhcp with my gateway, etc. Works fine now.

are you seeing much difference between what the local hash numbers are vs the pool numbers?

i just switched out my first batch of 5 for a new batch. the first 5 matched the pool numbers pretty close. the second batch shows almost 15 percent lower vs what i show locally.
80  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My Avalon 6's are in undervolt + down clock results. on: November 24, 2015, 02:22:37 PM
ive got 3 running at 3250gh.. wondering if its my PSU situation.. im going to mess around a bit more with them

voltage is around 11.9-12.1

ive got 1 out of 5 running at 3250, the other 4 at 3.55-3.7. I'm going to try to bump the voltage on that one to bring it in line with the others.
