61  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: July 16, 2013, 12:00:47 AM
FINAL BETA K16 v0.3.0 Board Design Released.

I've pushed my latest design files up to GitHub and updated the parts list.

Have Fun. New 3D render and gerber outputs also there. Use gerbv and open the kicad/ka6/ka6.gvp file.

Tomorrow I hope to have a web store open. Still a bunch of work to do there, setup Paypal and Bitcoin Pmts, and I need to take a few photos. Initially I expect to have pre-order K16 and K1 Board Only sales. Pre-order as in I'll order the boards and when they come in I'll ship them out - not months of angst waiting.

I'll also have Solder Paste Stencils for K16 and K1, and a small plain Heat Sink for the K1 as well. The boards include a license fee component, and pricing for QTY 1-9, 10-25, 26-50, 51-99, 100+. I plan to add some pre-programmed PIC parts later but that also depends on supply, and there's not much point in that until I have a boot loader written.

Note - my firmware files now default for use with inverters on result data and clk. If you still use non-inverted you will need to edit two lines before building in addition to setting chip count and bank values. I'll get some of this cleaned up with proper defines before long.

Next up: QFN variant and then K1 revision.

Sweet. i'll be ordering some.
Will your first run of boards be only for the TSSOP PIC, or will you be doing the QFN version as well?

Perhaps I could get a show of hands from those who think they would actually buy a kit or board that would require assembly docs?

Yes, this would be my preferred way to go Smiley. But I'm obviously not buying large volumes since it's gonna be done manually.

Yep, me too.
Have the skills to do it so i'd like to make a 16 chip Klondike and 4 little USB ones with the 20 chips I have coming soon.

Have you got a plan in place for supplying kits to people? (for ordering and logistics) I'd assume there would be a fair bit of demand. Most people would probably go for a pre-made option though.

Check the DIY site for the info on that. You should be doing a lot of research on your own for this to decide whether you will either do a the reflow yourself or outsource it. I think most people would be smart to get the boards already populated with components and then find a fab house locally to do the reflow especially having read the specs myself I think you need to get some serious skills and equipment if you are doing multiple boards.

And more detailed info reflow with QFN chips.

Nice links!

reminds me of a video a while back from my fellow countryman Dave Jones from EEVblog.
http://youtu.be/M_rO6oPVsws

he mentions two methods to solder these QFN's and shows one of them. the chip he is soldering is tiny!
You can definitely do this stuff yourself; I hand solder all my stuff but I wouldn't want to do it if i had 100's to assemble. (it also helps that i've had training to solder to class 3 spec)

This really really #%$#blows...Graet is tops, and puts his all in to be fair and offer great service....one of the beacons in the bitcoin community....and now this.....!

Yep, Graeme is probably only one of the few people in the bitcoin world I would trust for anything.
I trust he will find a solution, but man it must be a huge blow. Financially and emotionally.

I'm going to explain this like you where 5 years old:

I, my son, his children, will _personally_ track 16cDeEFn6sraUEJrDCt2Yg3r7j2oazSYEd for all eternity, no matter how many addresses the value is being sent to.

The value originating in 16cDeEFn6sraUEJrDCt2Yg3r7j2oazSYEd is for all future marked in our collective consciousness as stolen money.

Nothing else matters, I could create a service where you can store stolen addresses, but that is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT.

NO ONE will EVER take money from 16cDeEFn6sraUEJrDCt2Yg3r7j2oazSYEd, period.

Case closed.

Let's say for example that the thief uses localbitcoins.com and meets some innocent buyer on the street, transfers those 934 stolen BTC to a fresh address of the buyer (e.g. via smartphones), and in exchange the thief receives dollar bills from the unsuspecting buyer. What do you and your son and his children plan to do in this case?

Unfortunately, in reality the thief doesn't even have to bother that much. He can simply deposit the stolen BTC in MtGox, go through the AML verification procedure, and withdraw USD or whatever currency that he prefers. So even though MtGox will know the identity of the thief, they will not reveal it because of legal considerations, unless Graet could produce a court order (and it's highly unlikey that he could, because the thief is probably in another country, and efforts to involve Interpol for this amount of stolen money will hit a brick wall).

So bitcoin really is for hackers, thieves and con-men.
everyone is getting screwed over left right and centre.

Just watched that report, I'm surprised the ABC actually ran a story on it.
At least this might get some more attention now.

I lost 25 BTC at the time which I exchanged for $325AUD.
Don't I feel stupid now considering the recent price hike.

Has anyone else filled in the form for a complaint to NSW Fairtrading? What info did you provide? I wonder how many complaints they would need to look into this.
