If bitcoin holds its value around $7,150, cryptocurrency trader Michael Moro says, it could be on its way back to $10,000.

“If the [$7,000] level holds, say for the next week, two weeks, the bulls will 100 percent be back. They will be more comfortable that the lows for the year are in, and that we are more likely to see $10,000, rather than $5,000,” Moro said Wednesday on CNBC’s “Fast Money.”

The Securities and Exchange Commission rejected nine applications to create a bitcoin exchange-traded fund last week, due to worries about bitcoin price manipulation, Business Insider reported. Similar news has in the past sent bitcoin tumbling, but this time, the price rallied.

“Once the news broke about the SEC rejection and the price actually held, we did not see the 5, 10, 15 percent sell-off that you’ve seen in previous rejections. So I think the bears have realized they’ve run out of steam,” said Moro, CEO of cryptocurrency trading firm Genesis Trading and of Genesis Capital.

To get back up to that $10,000 price, bitcoin is going to need slow and steady growth in price and trading volume, rather than violent 5 percent and 10 percent jumps, he said.

“I believe the market now understands that the SEC’s ETF approval isn’t any time soon. So I think that the market sentiment regarding the product and the approval process is now far more muted, which I think is a healthier outlook for the next 12 months,” he added.

Moro said if bitcoin holds just above its current level, bulls will jump back in.

“I think the key level is $7,150, to be more exact, but if we can hold that next week, I do think we will see a sentiment turnaround in the market,” Moro said.

Bitcoin was trading around $7,050 Wednesday evening, according to Coindesk.

In a week in which EOS has made news for all the wrong reasons over a RAM vulnerability, a code auditor has revealed the prevalence of smart contract bugs. Security firm Hosho, which has forged a new partnership with community managers Amazix, has found that one in four projects contains critical vulnerabilities.

$1 Billion Is No Guarantee Against Bugs

$1 billion. That’s the amount raised by the projects whose smart contracts Hosho has audited. The security company claims to have audited more smart contracts than any other industry player. Despite the significant human and financial resources at their disposal, many of these projects would have been crippled had they neglected to have their code thoroughly scrutinized. A quarter of the projects Hosho has audited were found to have critical bugs, and some 60% of all projects they saw had at least one security issue.

Ethereum, the ICO economy’s go-to launchpad, has been the worst affected, with stories abounding of exploitable code that’s led to hundreds of millions of dollars of ether being stolen or locked up. While smart contract platforms such as Stratis are pushing the availability of debugging deployment suites and professional decompilers that come with using C#, Ethereum’s Turing-complete system leaves greater margin for error. Identifying and eliminating all potential security holes is a Sisyphean task, and one which even experienced Solidity developers struggle with. Enlisting the support of a third party specializing in smart contract audits, while not foolproof, is the best bet against shipping bug-filled code.

After days of holding steady between $6,400 and $6,700, Bitcoin is finally making a run for the $7,000 price level. The top-ranked cryptocurrency headlines a substantial price recovery that has the total market capitalization climb to $225 billion.

Bitcoin Breaks $6,700 Resistance Level

Bitcoin rose by more than $200 on Tuesday (August 28, 2018), reaching $6,916 as of 7 am UTC. The sudden climb occurred at 12 am UTC as BTC rose from $6,766 to above $6,900 in a matter of 35 minutes. At press time, BTC was trading at $6,935 having risen by more than three percent in the last 24 hours.

The top-ranked cryptocurrency is currently at its highest price since August 7, right before the start of a series of declines that eroded most of the gains accrued in July. Apart from BTC, the rest of cryptocurrency appears to be performing well. ETH and XRP have both soared significantly, but MIOTA is the best performing top-ten coin, rising by more than 15 percent over the last 24 hours.

Outside of the top ten, NEO is up by nine percent, VeChain by 13 percent, DASH by 21 percent. More than 80 percent of the top 100 coins have experienced positive gains in the last 24 hours in what seems like a positive start to the week for the bulls.

Bonner and Butte, Montana are home to two of the largest bitcoin mining facilities in North America. They’re also subject to a major energy producer in the state, the Colstrip power plant, which is due to be shut down. Bitcoin mining has become such a potential windfall for the state economy, one of its congressional representatives, Senator Steve Daines, openly worried closing of the plant could kill its crypto golden goose.

US Senator from Montana Defends Bitcoin Mining

“As the demand for Bitcoin miners increases and supply of cheap reliable electricity from coal generation decreases,” Senator Daines explained during a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee meeting in Washington, DC, “this could pose a threat of the expansion of Bitcoin generation and even greater threat to energy supply and prices for Montana as a whole.”

For example, Butte, Montana is home to the Crypto Watt LLC mining center. Having taken over an industrial site, it relies on the coal-fire powered Colstrip plant for 64 megawatts of power, making it one of the hungriest users of energy in the entire state. Senator Daines explained the plant is scheduled for a shutdown in less than ten years, and if all four of the plant’s sectors are shuttered that could well end Montana’s bitcoin mining industry.

Such an enlightened posture by the state’s politicos is hardly new. Last summer, its governor announced close to half a million dollars would be awarded as a grant to bitcoin miner Project Spokane for business growth, job creation, and employee training.

China has stepped up its crackdown on digital assets as it blocks the public from accessing more than 120 exchanges. Authorities are reportedly continuing to identify and police domestic websites offering information on crypto trading and initial coin offerings (ICOs).

The Bad News Continues to Come for China’s Crypto Community

According to a report in Chinese state media outlet Shanghai Securities News, authorities in the country have blocked citizens from accessing 124 websites associated with cryptocurrency exchanges based overseas.

The South China Morning Post stated that the measure is being led by people close to the Leading Group of Internet Financial Risks Remediation. This group is headed by Pan Gongsheng of the People’s Bank of China (PBoC) and was set up by the nation’s cabinet in 2016.

The IP addresses of the websites in question have been logged by authorities and will be blocked on the mainland going forward. This move is latest effort by the central government to minimise cryptocurrency use and speculation in the nation. It is believed that Chinese authorities are concerned about the impact that technological innovations will have on the nation’s economic security.

Relax, nobody received 2nd portion of bounty rewards, most people got few tokes for the first round and that is all. Situation with Glitzkoin really scare me, they collected huge cup, closed the spreadsheet, and threw the peanuts to bounty supporters. In Telegram they told everybody: distribution is over, everything fine. And their profile on bitcointalk is still not in red? We should develop instruments to protect marketing community (bounty supporters), reserve fund or something else, such situations are unacceptable.

At the beginning, we all supported the project with good idea, nice use cases for the real world, to change diamond industry, maybe team really develop diamond blockchain ecosystem for their investors, wish them best of luck.

You might have a point, but they have never imposed bans and restrictions in terms of blockchain events and meetings. I hope this will be limited to ChaoYang District only.
