61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: April 09, 2018, 11:36:28 PM
Does anyone know why Siacoin is "Frozen" on Poloniex? I'm not looking to sell, I'm holding for a long time but I just noticed it was frozen you can't sell or buy it. Normally if wallet was down you still would be able to sell it. And it would tell you the wallet was down. This is strange.

Poloniex has had problems with SiaCoin since at least last December.  Don't leave SiaCoins on Poloniex.  They take weeks to respond to inquiries.
62  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v11.6 (Windows/Linux) on: April 08, 2018, 04:20:26 PM
What version Claymore's runs the best with AMD rx 570 and 580 8gb cards and what driver should I install?

On Windows, I'd go with either the blockchain driver or something around 17.11 (whatever the first WQHL version is after they added "large page" support to the mainline drivers).

On LINUX, 17.50 seems a lot more stable than the blockchain drivers, but you have to modify one of the driver modules to get ANY support for undervolting or underclocking the core.

The latest Adrenalin driver works perfectly well for RX cards. It's pointless to intentionally install older drivers.

Does it work with BIOS modded cards?
I've seen conflicting info about which Adrenalin drivers do so and which don't.

That's also why Claymore's recommendation of 16.12.x made ZERO sense, as 16.11.x and up DISABLED support for BIOS modded cards while 16.9.x and 16.10.x DID work with them.

You will get much better performance, in my experience, from the latest Adrenaline drivers.

Here is the trick for modded bios files:  If these are fresh cards, apply the bios mods using ATIFlash, install the new driver but do not restart.

After installing the Adrenaline drivers on a rig whose cards have modded RX bios mods, run 1.4.6 of atikmdag-patcher.exe prior to restarting.  Then restart.  All should be good.

Looks like the eagle has landed for the Monero-v7 profitability...

100khs is giving 0.0266 BTC at Nicehash Crypotonite V7 marketplace.
It's that 80% missing hashrate no longer dumping earnings me thinks....

Or, letting the price rise while they turn on machines slowly in secret.....

rentals have spiked too... the greed has set in.

for me I am not interested in collecting the coin, just cheap BTC paid upfront from "rich" Nicehash rentors

I went 2x to 3x in earnings over just xmr

this is a boost for a vega miner

Anyone using Vegas and Windows should try out cast-xmr-ui and Cast 0.9.2 at some point.  Cast is updated for the fork.  Cast-xmr-ui provides for hash rate monitoring/restarting, forces compute mode (handy for RX 570/RX 580) and makes life easier overall.

YMMV, but if you 8+ Vegas on one rig, the old blockchain driver may be more stable for you.  I think for fewer Vegas, the latest Adrenaline drivers work well.  You still have to disable crossfire in the Registry; you still need a decent SoftPowerPlay modification to curb power draw.  But it has gotten much easier.

cooling retrofit for RX Vega, Morpeus II
and how to open your VEGA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THaMlkNDzYs

Careful with that Morpheus II retrofit.  The video you linked to is one out of two that should be watched if you are going to try this (I've done 8 Vega Morpheus II retrofits).

There are a lot of slightly different sized screws to remove.  The card becomes very lopsided/weight heavy because you have a massive heat sink on one side + 2 120mm fans clipped to the heatsink, and the bare circuitboard on the other side.

The final mounting to GPU is tricky as the tiny screws can become loose.  I used LocTite to stop this.

And your cards will be almost completely exposed.  The upside is that you can apply good thermal paste; I found Vegas' thermal paste to be all over the board; too thick, too thin, very dried out, etc.

And 120mm fans are much quieter than the single blower reference fan running at 3,000+ rpms.

Helps also with HBM memory temps while not being very loud at all.

summer is coming and the free airconditioning or rather deep freeze will be over, been thinking of alternatives in keeping the cards in ambient cool
isnt the exposed board prone to dust and particle collection? this can in extreme cases bridge components

thnx for the pointers, im always a bit skeptical to one size fits all and would rather see a Vega specific heat sink retrofit,

do you know of any?
im a bit dense when it comes to available materials and spend a lot of time searching

I do not know of any Vega-specific, air-only heatsink retrofit.  The Morpheus II works pretty well, but it isn't quite the walk in the park that the YouTube video makes it out to be.

The board is exposed.  What you can do is spray the board (front and back) with liquid silicone and then let the board dry for at least a week.  The plug the board + Morpheus II into your rig.  The silicone provides protection against water/shorting.  Do not spray the board with silicone and then try to connect it up that same day or a day later; you will probably short out something on the board.

The Morpheus II when installed right is very quiet (120mm fans versus reference blower fan), and does run cooler at relatively low noise levels.

I think I posted on YouTube what the one video left out in terms of how to go about removing the various sets of screws.

No. But it wasnt about sapphire cards i dont understand i changed card with the other rig. Firstly my problem solved but when i changing oc settings same problem i have. Everytime only one card giving 100 200 or nothing. İ will try compute mode

If you are using Adrenaline 18.x.x drivers, you have to toggle compute mode on, not graphics mode.

İ am using this miner with rx 570 and 580 i am taking 800-900. But i am taking 50-150 with sapphire cards (570 580). İ have three rig and i have three sapphire card. Each rig have only one. And taking only 50-200 with sapphire card. Really interesting problem. Any idea do you have ? İ tried adrenalin driver but i cant be stabil for 6 cards so i am using blockchain driver.

You have something set wrong.  Is "compute" mode enabled?

I made a tutorial video for anyone who wants to see the latest 0.9.2 version in action with the latest Adrenalin Edition 18.3.4 Drivers - NO BLOCKCHAIN DRIVER!!! I also picked up 1000 extra hash on the rig over xmr-stak.

Cast 0.9.2 + Cast-xmr-ui + Adrenaline drivers work well together (Vega cards)

You still need to apply SoftPowerPlay tables to reduce power draw.
You still should go into the Registry and disable autocrossfire and ULPS.
You may want to run the atikmdag-patcher as well.

[run DDU to remove old drivers; reboot.  Install Adrenaline drivers but do *not* reboot.  First change registry settings, apply SoftPowerPlay mods, run atikmdag-patcher.exe, then restart]

If you use cast-xmr-ui, you do not need to include the --ratewatchdog setting, nor do you need JJ's script anymore.  Cast-xmr-ui handles rate drops and restarts and the settings are user configurable. Cast-xmr-ui toggles compute mode for RX 570/RX 580 cards.

Cast 0.9.2 + cast-xmr-ui + OLD August beta blockchain drivers will get you slightly better hashing speed, but it is fairly small as in the difference between 1920 vs 1905/1900 with Adrenaline.

For everyone who is reporting problems with --ratewatchdog, try cast-xmr-ui. Do make an immediate backup of cast-xmr-ui's config file after unpacking.  You can manually edit the config file, but be careful.
69  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and ASIC Hosting (Mining4less.com) on: March 31, 2018, 05:59:42 PM
I will testify that my dealings with www.mining4less.com has been pretty good but not without its issues.

It seems the new control panel mentioned is not coded for every minor. But, once they get a machine in, they get it coded and it works perfect. They actually worked with me for 3 days 24/7 with any issues my machines gave them. Like, me sending L3's in with static ip's that i forgot the addresses to and stuff.. That was my issue and not theirs, but they, and not my self, sorted it out. So good on them.

Also, Julia has been responsive 24/7 to the point I think she may be a bot or a team of a dozen chicks! kidding ;-)!

As for shipping.. I use UPS and i send my shit next day or second day to the address that I was given. My machines where online less than an hour after the tracking number said it was delivered and i was texted a message from Julia stating so.

I give them an A+ for making it happen and and A++ for saving me thousands a month in electricity bills!

If you want a more reliable host, feel free to petition rackspace.com to host minors and feel free to spend $4000,00 a month hosting each one with them!

For 75 to 85 bucks a month, its a steal in my eyes.

Cheers all!

Ojai Rob out!

P.S. I only have 5 L3+'s there now, but i have 1 running in my garage, two running in my office, two more showing up at my house next week, and 5 being drop-shipped directly from Bitmain.com. I am planning on send all but the two in my office (free electricity) to mining4less.com as its a no brainer and still makes mining profitable whether its 1 pos S7 or not.  I plan on having 15 rigs there, wait maybe 20 or shit maybe 50! I think i may be addicted here..

P.S.S...  I have a few 350.00 coupons that i will trade for asic hashing power pointed towards a pool that im in, reach out if your interested!

I want to leave a brief update that I just spoke to Nhan Do and my particular issue is resolved.  Happy mining.
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any word on amd vega hash rates? on: March 31, 2018, 03:34:26 AM
I mine with Vega 64 with 2130 hashes on 170W from the wall on Cryptonight.

what are the clocks and volts?

Wouldn't put much stock in these numbers... these are better than I get with Vega FE's and all my 56/64s.

The newest driver baby... I have my memory clocked at 1185

For Vega 56, 64, RX 580/570:

It's a whole new ballgame with Cast 0.9.2 + latest Adrenaline 18.x.x drivers + cast-xmr-ui graphical user monitoring interface (available via Github, see Cast thread for the link).

- No need for buggy August BlockChain drivers.

- Cast 0.9.2 has a new --ratewatchdog function to monitor hash rate drop offs/ followed by a restart (no need to modify prior scripts from JJ-CircusDad)

- Cast-xmr-ui turns on "compute" mode without slogging through AMD settings one card at a time

Try this out.  I think you will be impressed.

What to do? Txs.

Try using "-R" instead of "--remoteaccess"

On a different note, does anyone know if there were blockchain drivers released for Sapphire Nitro Radeon RX480 after the August 2017 release? I can't seem to find any drivers post August 2017 and the August 2017 ones do not work, i used the DDU program and uninstalled the drivers, reinstalled the blockchain drivers, then added the patch too.... every time i do this process, the screen goes off and does not let me into normal mode, then i have to reboot into safe mode again, uninstall the drivers and come back out again! I am running windows 7, any idea what could be causing this?

Can't speak to Win7, but under Win 10, the latest Adrenaline drivers give excellent results for RX 480/570/580.  General process is find and apply whatever memory strap improvement that matches the memory on your card, install latest AMD driver, immediately run atikmdagpatcher.exe before restarting.  That avoids the Window crashing on startup issues with latest Adrenaline drivers.  *** Make sure you also enable "compute" mode in AMD Settings.

Can you actually set the compute mode for all GPU's in one shot or do we still need to do it from AMD settings one by one.

As far as I could tell, one by one.  The Registry setting doesn't seem to exist prior to using AMD Settings to toggle compute on. But once set it survives reboots and seems pretty solid.
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: March 22, 2018, 04:34:51 AM

I believe this project and if bitcoin goes up then Sia will follow it, see the volume now.

when will it be you think, so?

Everyone speculates about whether SIA will rise or fall, but how many take the time to read up on what SIA is and why it might be used?  I thought, hey let's find out what it takes to actually use this system.  What do I have to do to host?  How cheap or expensive is it to rent storage space?  Interestingly, Siatech doesn't have this basic information (why not?).  You eventually find a link to a "third party" site called SiaSetup.

Right now, I would say SIA is way too complicated to gain wide user adoption.  And the website says it is not aimed at individuals, it is more for 'enterprises' which I think is a huge strategic mistake.  I think SIA could take off if it focused on individuals first and not enterprises.  Win over loyal individuals and they will market your product to the enterprises they end up working at.

Whether a hoster or a renter, your SIA wallet needs to be running most if not all of the time.  If, as a host, your computer goes down, you pay penalties (loss of posted SIA collateral).  If as a renter you do not "top off' your credits every 6 weeks, your 3 month contract may elapse and when it does, your data goes POOF.  There are too many penalties as I read SiaSetup for hosters and renters.  The average storage price, 18 SIA per Terabyte, per month, is attractive.  But by default SIA slices and dices your data and distributes it to 30 hosts, and you have pay for a contract with each host.  The contract rate, at least as it appears on SiaSetup is more expensive than storage which doesn't make much sense.

And you can only retrieve your data from the same computer you uploaded your data from.  Think about that.  Well, actually, you can backup all your SIA data files and copy them over to another computer.  But the first time you upload or download a file, then you have to recopy everything all over if you want to retrieve the files from a different system.  I had to re-read this part it is so incredibly user unfriendly.  If my files are chopped up and encrypted in the cloud, half of the value proposition to me is that I can grab them from anywhere there is an Internet connection.  But not so with Sia.  This is one of those wtf are you thinking types of flaws.

I use Mega and it is easy, relatively intuitive, convenient, and not that expensive.  I was attracted to SIA because I thought it might be a distributed, more redundant, more secure, better type of Mega for storing files.  SIA is not that in its current incarnation, which is a shame.  I love the idea of distributed, redundant, encrypted hosting.  That's a powerful capability.  But I think renters, for example, should have some sort of grace period if they are late on topping off their credits before their files are deleted.  And I wonder (it's not explained on Siasetup) whether auto-notifications warn renters about the impending deletion of their data?  And while I understand the thought behind making hosts pay when their computer goes down, I think the cost to the hosting entity should be smaller.  There are power losses beyond the ability of conscientious people to avoid those mishaps.

For hosting, you need a minimum of 4 free TB or you are penalized.  And you start out being penalized because you haven't earned "trust" yet and it takes six weeks or more to climb out of that hole.  This seems to do nothing more than skew hosting towards those who were early in setting up their storage and who now have, by virtue of time, a higher trust score.  I don't like this.  If you want to measure trust, it should be based on some short rolling average of up-time for the host.  Maybe it is, but this is not well explained on SiaSetup.  And if I am correct, this is a somewhat suspect way to tilt the field towards those who got into SIA right from the beginning.

It's no wonder to me that there is plenty of empty, un-rented, unused storage at the moment.  SIA is not friendly or easily accessible to individuals in the way that Mega is.  I hope that the developers really work on making the entire ecosystem much easier to jump into -- both for persons who wish to rent out unused HD space, and for persons (not just enterprises!) that want a better alternative to Mega, or Amazon, or the greatest privacy destroying data sponge of them all -- Google.

SIA is a great idea.  But the implementation for end users is too complicated to gain widespread adoption anytime soon.  KISS.  This is all fixable and I hope to see more efforts both on the main webpage and in the software to make hosting and renting storage space an easy, painless, experience.  The world doesn't need another payment token.  The world does need a better way to store files privately and beyond the ability of governments and other individuals to spy on that data.  The developers clearly recognize this but they aren't making it easy for Joe sixpack to use their system.  At least not yet.

In the meantime, just because I like challenges, I am going to set up hosting.  And maybe someone should have a talk with Kim Dotcom.  Just saying.
74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer A3 earning $500 a day mining SIAcoin . .WHAT?! Results & Stats on: March 22, 2018, 02:53:57 AM
Batch 2 started shipping.

Got a batch 2 unit today.

$980 + $150 Shipping = $1130

$1130/$25day = 45-60 days you need to touch ROI
When is happening the SIA fork ?

These prices are valid only if you are a citizen of the US
In Europe and especially in my country the price is doubled up easily

for example, one PSU from bitmain will have a final cost of around 300 in euro, which includes shipping, taxes and customs (original price is $105)

Cheer up, batch 4 of the Obelisk miners are now on sale.  :-P

ASUS Prime z270-A perfectly recommended, I would advise it, how much not to collect a farm for 8 Rx 580 will be cheaper, you can even add in this cost 1 Videokarte and the 9 Rx 580. I would add a USB WatchDog Pro2.

Asus Prime Z270-A, or Z370-A - both good boards.  ASUS has very good service as well.
77  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [FS] Bracket to mount 7 GPUs at front of Rosewill L4XXX server chassis - Updated on: March 05, 2018, 02:58:59 AM

I solved the issue of the front fan screw heads by simply removing the plastic shroud holding the dust filter in place (the suction of the fans is enough to hold the dust filter in place). I didn’t want to move the fan mount back because I didn’t want to sacrifice cleanrance since I have 1 card that’s over 11” long and I also remounted and kept the center fan wall for extra airflow.

I'm not following this particular point.  I have the same bracket and there were no issues as far as closing the front face place; no modifications were necessary at all.  I simply moved the frame back enough to where the side beams align with the screw holes in the case side.

Not really the right thread for this, but the answer is yes, you can.  Take the 650w PSU and plug it into the motherboard and maybe power 1 or 2 1070 cards.  Take the 900w PSU and use it to power your other 4 or 5 1070 cards, but don't connect it to the motherboard!

Ah the joy of having 27 nvidia 1080ti's

and only 1 rx560

fuck bios flashing.

Proud to say never did a one.

Eh, it's not so hard.  You just have to back up the original and then be careful to apply a compatible new one.
The advantage is this:  going from 700 H/s on an RX 480 8 GB to a very steady 860 H/s.
