Wouldn't this be a problem for cases like mine where I was near to becoming sr. member (238 points when this change happened) and instead only got 100 merits, so even if this week I will have above 240 activity, I will have to wait to get to 250 merit points?
150 likes would take significant time and why would people give away their merits if they also need it for their rank promotion?
These questions may have already been answered, and I will read the whole thread to know more.
same boat buddy, we need to get to 250 merit now even if we have enough activity but we got this

Hm I think that there is not enough merit points. Even though the system could be good. Everybody wants quality, but we might blew it with low points.
the point of the merit system is to stop accounts like you from ranking up so fast to be very honest lmao

The point I see is that it doesn't matter how good and helpful your post is, just a few users will have smerit to reward you. In general the new users are the ones that need more help, and they won't have a way to say 'thank you' and helping you improving
I know that the forum team is trying to overpass those account's market, but the way I see it the one thing that is suppose to happen is that there will be a new market (merit market) besides the already existing ones
IMO, you just should come back to the old model. I know it's not perfect, but it's well fair to daily users and much better than this new system
thats what i was saying previously... most people on the forum who need help are lower ranks and cannot even merit you for the help... but they were saying merit mods would come around and give you merit for helping... imo getting a couple merit for helping a dozen people isnt amazing, i guess well see how this plays out , its a step in the right direction but its tough for people close to ranking up for sure

maybe every new user should have at least 1 sMerit ?
No good. Account farmers would get a ton of free merit, which defeats the whole purpose. the other option of "merit mods" would work better actually after thinking about it.... they look over beginner sub threads and can send Merit to members who are helping newbie ranks who cant give Merit for being helped out.... just thinking sending like 1 Merit once in a while wouldnt be enough, good help is valuable.... The rich get richer in this situation , but also does help the community so theres positives and negatives in any change most of the time

So we now need to Gain Merits as well as activity to rank up. Seems Pretty Hard. But I will be more friendly to the Forum and will try to create amazing and intresting posts. Love Bitcoin Love Bitcointalk forum if youre that friendly send me some merit bro hahah 150 merit from full member to senior rank i really wonder how long this will organically take?? it really does feel like starting over which sucks... hope this system works for the best and does weed out the bots/crap posters if its my birthday soon can i beg for merit? what are the rules here lolll

Quote from: asapjoshyy on Today at 05:46:59 AM yes because a great way to help the community is helping new members... but those new members have no Merit to pay your efforts for helping them out.. Which kind of defeats the purpose ?? But it works just for quality posts in general , but i think helping newer members should reward something in this system imo... Sources monitor eg the Beginners&Help section and reward those helping out newcommers. Problem solved.
if that is being done then i agree that would work... if there is a few "merit monitors" but man giving like 1 merit for a few good quality posts when somebody needs hundred or more is really tough.... basically anybody close to ranking up is screwed over currently which sucks and anybody who is Senior Member + can just kick back Long term this could be a positive thing for the forum but man it sucks big time for anybody close to ranking up in the next couple weeks

the only thing i dont love is most of the members who are asking questions on the sub forums arent a high rank so they cant even send you Merit for helping them..... Most of the Full Members + are pretty knowledgeable in the crypto space.... so it could be tough

Let me know if I understand:
I've at present 10 merit received by the system, as member rank. In just a month I should become Full Member. Does this means that if I don't receive 100 merits I won't uprank?
I don't know how easy it will be to receive merit, but if this is true, the system it made just to award who is already uprank, and to make impossible to low rank to grow, as I'm very skeptic that someone will give merit to a newbie/jr.
I mean, it seems to me that now there are a lot of full/hero members with...uh... not so high quality posts, but they have hundreds of merits just by their rank, not by quality.
In the meanwhile I appreciate the "merit idea", this aspect seems to me very unfair.
(of course, there is the possibility I didn't understand well; in this case, let me know)
im in the same boat about to rank up to Senior.... so yes it sucks for us in the short term .. but it will make the community better now i need to make 140 merit haha lets do this thing... and you need to make 90 merit for Full Member even if you have enough activity

just curious;
exp. i am hero activity +600 , merit: 550 ,
some guys can easily give - merit (when -merit will be available ) and reduce my merit under 500, in this case; may rank will be level down Hero to Sr ?
I dont think having -merit would be a good system imo, because people could just do that to members they dont like with no basis... dropping down ranks over that wouldnt make logical sense... But if it were to happen i could see it downgrading to the bottom of the merit system of the certain rank , but it wouldnt actually make you rank down, it would just knock you down to the minimum merit for your current rank .. IMO

so Merit is now needed to rank up.... what happens if im a Full Member about to be a Senior Member in a few weeks time??? Do i now have to accumulate 150 "merit" by posting quality posts???
The new ranking system is implemented already. And merit is required now so you must start now posting high-quality post to rank up. So if somebody gives me for example 10 merit and im at 100 total, im now at 110, if i give 5 away in return to somebody will i be at 105 now?? Sorry just trying to understand this system thanks , and glad to see positive movements to making the forum better for the community As far as what I understand and observe when I send merits to someone. The merit that given to you will be permanent because there is separate merit that used to share with others and that's what they called sMerit. So if you have 100 merit and somebody gave 10 to you. You will still have 110 merits even if you share 5. AFAIK the 50% of the merit that given to you (10 merits) will be added to the balance of your sMerit. Further explanation in numerical figures.Initial Merit = 100 Initial sMerit= 60 When someone shares merit to youShare Merit = 10 ThereforFinal Merit = 110 Final sMerit = 60+5(50% of shared merit) When you give merit to othersInitial Merit = 110 Initial sMerit = 65 Merit give to somebody = 10 ThereforFinal Merit = 110 Final sMerit = 55 Please correct this statement if wrong. Thanks well i started with 100 merit... was given 10 merit for 110 total I personally just had 11 Smerit to send out after having 110 Merit TOTAL .... so im not sure how it works totally yet?? Im assuming ill get more "Smerit" when somebody sends me some Merit then i can send that out for good posts.... So basically get Merrited and earn Smerit to send out in return

so Merit is now needed to rank up.... what happens if im a Full Member about to be a Senior Member in a few weeks time??? Do i now have to accumulate 150 "merit" by posting quality posts??? I do enjoy this system because it will stop bad quality posts, but what if you are making good positive posts and helping members but people just decide not to "merit" you because they are selfish or dont care??? Of course most people here are good people and you give what you get , the system says half of the merit you receive you can give away as well??? So if somebody gives me for example 10 merit and im at 100 total, im now at 110, if i give 5 away in return to somebody will i be at 105 now?? Sorry just trying to understand this system thanks , and glad to see positive movements to making the forum better for the community 1. Yes indeed, you need 150 merit points to rank up to sr.member, just like me, although my activity isn't as high as you. 2. If you made a good post, i believe someone will gives you merit points. Because people must gives merit to others, the sMerit (sendable merit) will be diminished if you dont use it. 3. Your merit points will not reduced if you send merit to others. Only your sMerit will be reduced. Ya it kinda sucks to see this implemented literally weeks away from me ranking up haha , but in the end it should be good for the community, its tough seeing bot accounts just drop the exact same 1 liner comments in threads everyday... for my own selfish reasons i wish this happened next month haha but its for the best Guess ill have to post some quality tips/ pointers to get my Merit up to get this Senior rank ive been looking forward to since joining.... goodluck on your journey to Senior as well buddy.. 2018 gonna be a good year for crypto and this bitcointalk community

Sorry just trying to understand this system thanks , and glad to see positive movements to making the forum better for the community If someone gives you 10 merits, then you are at 110, and you have 5 additional smerits that you can give away. When you give away the smerits, that does not substract from your 110 merits, it only subtracts from your smerits, which is a separate pool. thanks brotha, i appreciate the response ... So basically your "Merit" stays and cannot decrease But you get HALF the "Smerit" of whatever "Merit" somebody sends to you for people who dont understand... somebody sent me 10 "Merit" and now i have 5 extra "Smerit" i can now use to send to other accounts with positive comments i enjoy/ help the community.... seems pretty cool, now ill just need to see how much Smerit we can use if its a weekly/monthly limit and im assuming the higher the rank the more Smerit you can have to send out
