602  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / btc-e.com under maintenance, scheduled or not? LTC effect? on: June 26, 2013, 10:05:16 PM
btc-e.com appears to be under maintenance. Does anyone know if this was scheduled? Does anyone have contact with the Russians on bitcointalk.org?

There is not much info on the site, this is how it reads when I visit,

Maintenance, Site is under maintenance. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Any thoughts on how long or how this will effect prices? I'm amazed to see that so far BTC price and LTC prices have remained stable so maybe this was scheduled after all. I'd love to get some feedback from others who have also noticed this change.

(some posts that have been irrelevant to the topic have been removed, flame wars too)

well I didn't see your username lol... it's a shame your grammar spoiled the joke lol... I didn't take offence to it though Wink just confused by your missing word and wasn't sure how to reply
608  Economy / Goods / Re: A$30 for 0.3BTC Can someone order me a pizza tonight? on: June 14, 2013, 02:09:24 PM
Sorry mate, that price is too for buying me

Your grammar is crazy, but if you think the price is wrong... perhaps your expecting the price to go down or up... I don't know... but it's actually quite a bit better than the going rate on Gox right now... Notice it is A$ after all
609  Economy / Goods / A$30 for 0.3BTC Can someone order me a pizza tonight? Still looking!!! on: June 14, 2013, 12:30:09 PM

610  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: we're going to be discussed at the world bank 6/14 on: June 13, 2013, 08:10:44 AM
Ok... so I received this letter today... the letter says it's from Bitinnovate but I took it as being from the Elite behind the curtain, if through a somewhat distorted channel.

"We are working to get this service up again as soon as possible. We hope to have an update to our current announcement early next week. https://www.bitinnovate.com/sell-bitcoin-currently-closed/

Apologies that we cant give you more information at the moment. Once our audit is complete we will be in a better position to provide more information regarding this.

Thanks for taking the time to let us know how this has effected you and your ability to use our service. This feedback is much appreciated.

Cheers,"

Ok... so I received this letter... who is it that has stopped this service? Why the auditors of course, who else. Well thanks for nothing Fiat money.

If you ask the question "what is money" you will find the answer... but not from the crooked and the deceitful who comprise the Hegelian dialectic that is plaguing our money

If I can't buy Fiat money with it, I'll buy gold.

the current gold price is not in US dollars, and when we see it rise in terms of BTC the we will truly be free
611  Economy / Economics / Re: Price discovery on: June 13, 2013, 01:37:16 AM
Monsterer - can you clarify why this wouldn't represent the actual tradeable value of the currency? The idea was not to make it artificially smooth, its just a byproduct when you are incorporating more data.

A 30 day weighted average will be extraordinarily laggy. You can't really escape it completely by reducing the time-frame, lag will always be present. So its highly likely that (since bitcoin is so volatile) the weighted average indicates one price, whereas the actual trade-able value on the exchanges is nowhere near since (for example) someone just dumped 20k BTC an hour ago.

I suggest reviewing historical data and computing the average based on that, then compare that average to the actual traded price at the time to give you an idea just how bad/good this idea is.

Cheers, Paul.

Ah sorry if my original post wasn't clear, but I'm not using a 30 day weighted average price. I'm using the realtime price. The aggregate price is then weighted based on the volume that the exchange does over a 30 day time period. This ensures that the price is both real time and weights the most influential exchanges' price accordingly.

This sounds brilliant. This would mean that Mount Gox would still be the most influential at the start as it has the most volume, but would give us a price that is not solely dependant on one exchange and who's influence can become independent of any particular exchange. I look forward to seeing it made
612  Economy / Services / House/Pet sitting Australia Wide on: June 12, 2013, 03:49:11 PM
Are you looking for someone to care for you pets or garden while your away? I'm an honest and hard working house sitter who loves to get my hands dirty in the garden and and loves animals.

I'm currently baby sitting a 5yr old boy for a family in Perth and will be here until the school holidays at the end of June. Ideally I'd like to find someone in Melbourne or Sydney... but I would consider extending my stay in Perth or travelling else where for the right opportunity.

If you are looking for a Butler/Driver/Gardener/Babysitter/Cleaner/Handyman all rolled into one... then I'm your man.

I don't expect to be paid as long as I get free rent, electricity and ideally internet. Minimum 2 month stay. May trade some Bitcoins your way or mine depending on what you have to offer.

Please PM me if you have any questions or have an opportunity you can share with me.

Thanks.
613  Economy / Service Discussion / Please help me sell 1 BTC - Bitinnovate and Spendbitcoins have both let me down on: June 12, 2013, 03:12:35 PM

614  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Buy and Sell Bitcoins in Australia and New Zealand - Bit Innovate on: June 12, 2013, 12:45:34 PM
I have used Bitinnovate so many times now.

I've used them both to buy coins, and to sell them.

Sometimes I've sold them to fund my credit card and sometimes to buy items elsewhere such as ebay etc. Every time things have gone smoothly, until...

Today the site does not appear to be up at all? I hope this is simply a temporary thing and not some kind of serious attack. Does anyone else have similar issues with the site?

Hope you are back up soon...

Any suggestions on other places I can easily sell 1 coin? I just want some funds deposited to an Australian account for the weekend... just 1 BTC for whatever the Gox rate is at the time... cheers.

edit.

Ok... the site is back up again with the following announcement.

"Our Sell Bitcoins service is currently closed

We are working through some unexpected issues and hope to have it up again soon. We expect to have an update by the middle of June. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. -The Bit Innovate Team, 4 June 2013"

This is what happens to companies that try to play within the law... I'm disappointed they've failed to stand up to the bullies... I half expected Bitinnovate to keel over like everyone else... but was hoping they would put up more of a fight.

Very disappointing... the bureaucrats come in a ruin your business... what do you do? or was it the banks? They are just as bad... oh well... looks like I'll be keeping my bitcoin... spending it at SR or some such thing...

Good bye Bitinnovate... I don't expect you will be back any time soon

615  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Financial Times have a Bitcoin only section on: June 03, 2013, 02:18:19 AM
The bitcoin exposure is fabulous, but of course the whole site (just look at the front page) is FUD mongering to drive you into the 'sponsors' arms.

The top three stories are, Volatile, Legal trouble and US seizes accounts... talk about FUD central lol

617  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Who is most Qualified to answer technical Questions regarding "proof of work" on: May 28, 2013, 03:40:57 AM
I am not a mathematician, I'm a salesman, so my job is to watch people's body language. I'm interested in understanding how some of the technical aspects of Bitcoin are effecting other types of language.

For example.

"Proof of work"

I don't understand any of the maths behind this, and I'm not really looking for a technical explanation. I know you guys can do this, now I'm asking for some expertise to see if there is need for additional Cryptocurrencies to do POW or if we can do it cheaply and easily off the Bitcoin Blockchain.

Sometimes in sales it's important to understand the "Verbal Contract"

It involves creating a yes/no question that leaves customer feeling like YOU the SALESMAN is actually waiting for the customer. They would feel they where doing me a favour by staying but also left feeling I'm so keen to help them that it would be worth the wait... Maybe I wouldn't get it every time but the intention was there. If YOUR time is important than timing is very important, and others will value YOUR time. POW allows for these kind of contracts to hold more weight.

Is it possible or practical to set up a POW for all documents on Bitcointalk (and/or other similliar sites) straight off the Bitcoin Blockchain? How easy is it to set up a coin just for a specific site, and purely for the sake of POW?

All a bit far fetched? I'm sure it can be done, what I'm not sure of is the price/benefit matrix. I'm not sure but I'm hoping for some good news, I was hoping we would have outgrown cars 30 years ago
618  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will go Viral on: May 28, 2013, 03:07:51 AM
Bitcoin will go viral, we just need to bombard services like Dropbox with "Hey, why don't you take my bitcoin???"

I joined their site today, Purely to check out their forum poll... I downloaded the free one. Dropbox might convince me to upgrade if they take BTC.

Otherwise it's not an option, my spending money is BTC... heck my only other option is Gold and silver... anyone want to exchange for BTC?

Anyone from Coinabul on Bitcointalk?
619  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will go Viral on: May 27, 2013, 01:11:41 PM
Thanks, The most positive thing so far... a whopping 90% of you you think Bitcoin is already Viral or is going to be. Of that, 60% think it's not there yet... a good sign that while some of us are surprised that this new technology is not being embraced by Zombies, eventually even the Zombies will want Bitcoins... Zombies learned to use email too
620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens when the US makes crypto-currency illegal? on: May 27, 2013, 11:33:12 AM

Got any candidates? (Not snark, I mean it. I hate what the USA has become. It doesn't even resemble the nation I grew up in, and I am only middle aged.)

Although I agree significantly, I'm not really completely convinced that the US has ever been all that angelic.  The Vietnam war and the Latin American activities which transpired during at least part of my early lifetime were pretty repulsive.  It is true, however, that the spoils of our 'activities' have been more evenly distributed in times past.  Of course that does not excuse morally wrong activities, but it does add incentive to not wish to participate.  And as sure as eggs are eggs, an increase in income gap brings with it the need for enhanced internal security apparatus.

The Assange thing knocked Sweden way down no my list of interesting options and elevated Ecuador to near the top.  As best I can tell the actual people of Ecuador themselves had some understanding of the Wikileaks/Assange details, and support their government's actions.  To me this says a lot about the people.  Like most folks though, I've mostly thought about such thing and have made little concrete action.

Agree thoroughly with the 1st paragraph. I too am old enough to remember the Southeast Asia War games. Was very young, but old enough to remember. But the domestic police state and it's broad acceptance is pretty new. Kids didn't get arrested for having a plastic steak knife or a heated argument when I was a young adult, let alone a kid. Hell, most of us brought our rifles to school on the opening day of hunting season as late as 1980 in Wyoming.

Now, SAYING that could get you arrested.

Land of the free, my Cherokee ass!

I hope saying it didn't get you arrested. The biggest challenge of the FUD right now is convincing all the "Citizens" that they have the right and the power to tell them all what to do. I'm not suggesting you say things to get arrested, I'm saying that people like this SEC character are just here to stir up controversy, he probably is from the SEC and this is their best plan of attack, shout scary stories in the Forums!
