601  Economy / Services / Re: *ActionCrypto.com Options Signaure Campaign* ESCROWED* Earn 0.1 Best Rate * on: December 07, 2014, 06:00:00 AM
Hi, I enrolled on Tuesday but I was only able to make 10 posts during that time. It seems I'm not the only one who hasn't made 20 posts too. What happens now? Will my posts for the past 5 days roll over to the next week like the Primedice campaign did back when it was still running? Or will the post count be reset?

Hello, yes it will be rolled over until you hit 20 posts.

We will not reset your post count, that is unfair.

Sweet! That's what I thought would happen as well, but I just needed to be sure. Smiley

wait until Today he will pay you Smiley I am sure we are enjoying here for long term Smiley But I want to know if I will post Today then it will count today or in next week payment day ?

Not sure but in the original post, it says that he counts the posts on Saturday and sends the coins on Sunday so if I had to make a guess, I'd say any new posts made now will roll over to the next week?

Relevant part:

★ Every Saturday, we count how many posts you have made since your first post, and Sunday we will pay out.

Also:

The first payout has already been sent to escrow by redsn0w.

EDIT: Also, becoming a senior member is taking a lot longer than I expected. It looks like I'll probably have to wait until Tuesday. Sad

603  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is peercoin good coin to invest in? on: December 07, 2014, 02:51:46 AM
I like it, but $1,000 is a lot of money.

Peercoin was the first coin to employ proof-of-stake (technically hybrid PoW and PoS) and was considered to be very innovative when it was first launched. Technology-wise, other coins like NXT and BTSX have surpassed it but it has one of the best and most highly-respected devs (Sunny King) working on it and a substantial community behind it. And unlike many other older coins (e.g. Namecoin and Litecoin), there are still new developments being built on top of PPC too such as Peershares, and NuBits/NuShares.

The goals behind Peercoin also differ from that of Bitcoin and Litecoin. Peercoin isn't really designed for small transactions due to its fixed transaction fee. It's not really a currency that you would buy baked beans at your local grocery store with, for example. It was always intended to be used as more of a savings account or a "backbone currency" (as Sunny King puts it) than a currency for day-to-day transactions since the very beginning.

In all honesty, PeerCoin is somewhat defunct at this point. Their currency and economy has been on a decline for a while.

Whether or not the price of PPC will go up probably depends on whether the whole cryptocurrency market will succeed. Litecoin spent most of 2013 losing value against the dollar only to spike when Bitcoin prices spiked in November-December.

Perhaps, you should take a look at Ripple. Their Market Capitalization is second only to Bitcoin. The value of Ripple is also rising again. Take a look. Might not be 2 years old. Not sure, a google search will help. But they are a coin veteran.

The idea behind Ripple is very old, and possibly predates even Bitcoin itself. But it's internal currency - XRP, on the other hand is quite new. Launched in late 2013 I believe.

Maybe, don't limit your options to old coins. There are many new, prominent coins with great potential.

Agreed.
604  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Using a Bitcoin private key as a NXT passphrase? on: December 07, 2014, 02:28:08 AM
Security-wise, would it be a good or bad idea to use my Bitcoin private key as a NXT wallet passphrase?

Since it is impractical to brute force a Bitcoin private key, it should be safe enough to use as a NXT passphrase too, right?

I'm curious because if it works, then it would be one less thing to remember. The idea that the private key for an existing Bitcoin address can also act as the "key" for a NXT address is an attractive one.

And could this work for other coins too? Could I use a Bitcoin private key to unlock a Dogecoin address? Or a Namecoin address? Could I print a paper wallet with a private key that contains - in addition to bitcoins, a variety of different cryptocurrencies inside it as well?

EDIT: What about using Electrum seeds as NXT passphrases? They look pretty similar (i.e. 12 random words).
605  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why is processor naming so confusing these days? on: December 07, 2014, 01:16:38 AM
The average consumer does not need to know the difference.
i7 > i5 > i3.
iPhone 6 > iPhone 5 etc.

That hierarchy is mostly correct, but it breaks down when you compare processors of different generations. A third generation i5 might have better performance than a second generation i7, for example.

Because GHz means very little these days. A 3.6 GHz CPU may not be faster or "better" than a 3.3 GHz due to advances in how they are utilized.

This is true, but it is also very confusing for consumers. I remember back in the day when AMD had processors that ran slower than Intel's but had better performance per megahertz. Back then, AMD would give its processors a "performance rating" so that customers wouldn't get confused. Hence, an Athlon 2400 was roughly equivalent to a 2.4GHz Pentium 4 and a Duron 2400 was roughly equivalent to a 2.4GHz Celeron.

Something similar to this system would be nice for today's multi-core processors, e.g. an Intel Core 13000 or AMD 13000 might have similar performance to a hypothetical 13GHz Pentium 4.

Just a thought.
606  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many of you consolidate your bitcoins? on: December 07, 2014, 01:04:52 AM
Better idea would be to diversify how they are invested and stored.

Security-wise, I gotta agree. If I had a single address with all of my BTC contained inside it - and if it were to be hacked due to some lapse in security, I would have lost all my bitcoins. If I had multiple addresses with a small amount of bitcoins in each and they were all stored separately, then a hack would only affect a small percentage of my total bitcoin wealth.

Even bitcoins held in cold storage can be lost, stolen, destroyed by fire, etc.

Well I'm definitely one of them. Also considered a freak. Why I say that is because I usually make it a routine (better word compulsory) to transfer between addresses and usually I try to keep the transaction size small (<1000kb) by having three transactions max received per address. Also this is done by waiting for the transactions to age (usually about 1 week) before I can transfer for low fee or sometime for zero fee and then consolidate to combine into a single output.

Any of you guys do that or you will just leave it there?

What is the advantage of keeping the transaction size of a smaller value?

I always thought smaller-sized transactions (i.e. transactions from addresses with a small number of outputs) were accepted more quickly by miners and required a smaller fee.
607  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BITCOIN - BITCOIN TESTNET ? on: December 03, 2014, 06:50:29 AM
Also I think the testnet blockchain is periodically reset, unlike the normal blockchain which retains its entries. This usually happens when a new major version of Bitcoin Core is released. Technically it isn't really a reset since a new blockchain for test coins is created and the old test coins continue to exist on the old blockchain.

From the Bitcoin wiki:

Quote
There have been three generations of testnet. Testnet2 was just the first testnet reset with a different genesis block, because people were starting to trade testnet coins for real money. Testnet3 is the current test network. It was introduced with the 0.7 release, introduced a third genesis block, a new rule to avoid the "difficulty was too high, is now too low, and transactions take too long to verify" problem, and contains blocks with edge-case transactions designed to test implementation compatibility.
608  Other / Off-topic / Why is processor naming so confusing these days? on: December 03, 2014, 06:14:10 AM
It used to be that distinguishing the CPUs of different computers was quite simple. Intel had its Pentium for mainstream stuff and Celeron for budget stuff. Pentium 4 was after Pentium 3 which was after Pentium 2 which was after Pentium. AMD also had its Athlon and Duron brands for mainstream and budget computers, respectively.

A 800MHz Pentium 3 was virtually guaranteed to be better than a 750MHz Pentium 3. A 1GHz Celeron was guaranteed to be better than a 700MHz Celeron, etc.

Nowadays, we have Core i7, i5, i3, Atom, Pentium Dual Core, Celeron, etc. and AMD has Athlon, Phenom, E2, A4, A6, A8, A10, FX, A, E, C series, etc.

And there are also different generations too - all while retaining the same name. How is the average shopper supposed to know that the 3.5GHz Core i5-4670K is actually far superior to the 3.07GHz Core i7 350? Or that the latter is similar in performance to the 3.4GHz Core i3-4130?

And no, average shoppers aren't going to bother with consulting benchmarks or learning about the differences between architectures, pipelines, cache sizes, levels, etc.

The whole thing just seems like one big giant mess. Huh
609  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Updated] Choices for earning BTC interest on: December 03, 2014, 05:40:58 AM
While the idea seems nice, I'm not sure if it is actually a smart one. By sending your bitcoins to such a site, you are betting against the possibility that they will not get hacked, "hacked", or turn out to be a scam. I'm not sure if taking such a big risk would be worth it for just a ~10 percent annual gain. If the site disappears with all of its users' funds, then you will lose 100 percent of your initial deposit.

Also, doesn't Bter also offer interest for Bitcoin and altcoins as well? I've never heard of all those other sites mentioned in the OP before but I think Bter is quite trustworthy. That doesn't mean they can't get hacked though. And there is still a non-zero percent chance that they could suddenly disappear without a trace. Heck, I remember when they nearly went bankrupt when a hacker made off with 50 million NXT a couple of months ago. It could happen again.

(That being said, I might put a small fraction of my bitcoins into such sites just for fun. But I definitely wouldn't recommend investing all of your bitcoins there.)
610  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Buying historically significant bitcoins? on: December 03, 2014, 05:14:10 AM
Is there any way to buy bitcoins (or fractions of a bitcoin) that are historically significant?

e.g. Satoshi's bitcoins, coins belonging to the last 50 BTC block or the first 25 BTC block, the coins that were part of Karpeles' 424,242 BTC transaction in 2011, or the coins that were exchanged during memorable moments in Bitcoin's history such as laszlo's pizza, etc.

I would think that if Bitcoin were to succeed (if it hasn't indeed already done so), historically significant bitcoins such as these would fetch a premium since they would be treated as rare/scarce "collectibles".

613  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin mixing vs Bitcoin exchange. on: December 02, 2014, 07:09:40 AM
I have experimented with using an exchange to mix coins and taint analysis via Blockchain.info does show that it works. i.e. there is no connection/taint between my old address and the new address used to receive coins.

So yes, it does work. And dice sites like Primedice can be used for this purpose as well. In these cases, nobody will be able to link the two addresses except, of course, the site owner.

Some mixing services take this one step further because not even the site owner knows the link between the old address and the new one. I remember reading somewhere that Bitmixer.io permanently deletes records of its users' transactions after several hours.
614  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do faucets afford it on: December 02, 2014, 07:04:00 AM
Why are they giving away free money albeit small amounts?  It's not like they're loaded with banner ads

They ARE loaded with banner ads, and they are giving not just small but absolutely TINY amounts. The money earned from advertising is also quite small so I suspect they don't make much profit either.

I spent over half a year clicking and clicking and clicking on faucets, but if I added up all the BTC I got from them*, it would only be worth about $0.80.

There are much better ways to make money via the Internet. I wouldn't recommend faucets unless you're a beginner that wants to use them to learn how sending and receiving BTC works, or if the faucet has an affiliate program and you have a blog or something that might attract referrals.

*excluding the old Primedice 2 HH faucet, of course.
615  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will I forever be penalized on here??? on: December 02, 2014, 06:56:57 AM
You might want to consider a new account and start fresh.  This probably isn't the impression you want people to have of you.

This. Not sure if the rules have changed since the last time I've been here since I haven't really been on these forums much lately, but I don't think there is a rule saying that you cannot have multiple accounts. You're still a newbie, so instead of trying to repair your account, I would think it would be better to start off again with a fresh account and learn from this experience so the same thing (i.e. making posts that attract negative trust) doesn't happen again.
616  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SuperNET asset 12071612744977229797, trading symbol UNITY on: November 29, 2014, 10:32:36 PM
Hello all...I invested heavily in blocknet only to find out it is CRAP basically a copy of supernet with lazy ass devs ...but in the process I found out about supernet....so can someody tell me what it is and how works and how do i invest and get paid  Wink

The way I did it was to buy some NXT from an exchange, download the NXT wallet, generate a NXT address using the built-in passphrase generator or use your own passphrase (not really recommended). Then transfer the NXT to your wallet (input both the address and the public key), go to the NXT asset exchange, input the asset no. for SuperNET (12071612744977229797), and use your NXT to buy some SuperNETs.

It's basically the same process as buying any other asset on the NXT AE really. The only thing that changes is the asset ID.

618  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Neos reach $5 when V2 is released? on: September 26, 2014, 01:22:26 PM
I kind of have a thing for new source coins that aren't derived from Bitcoin (e.g. NXT, Node, Crypti, NEM, Qora, Cryptonote coins, etc.).

Is Neos also a new source coin?
619  Economy / Gambling / Re: I play chess online on lichess.org for Bitcoin ! on: September 22, 2014, 03:10:21 PM
What would prevent someone from firing up Deep Blue, use your moves as its inputs, and play whatever moves it happens to churn out?

EDIT: I guess playing chess via video link might help prevent this.
620  Economy / Services / Selling sig space: 0.01 BTC for 1 month on: August 24, 2014, 01:08:39 AM
I made a similar thread a few months ago but everyone told me to just sign up for the PrimeDice sig program instead so that's what I did. Well, I'm glad I followed their advice because I was able to get 0.03 BTC for only a month's worth of effort!! Smiley However, Stunna recently changed the terms so now those who aren't at least a Senior Member can no longer join. Sad So it looks like I'm back here again!

Basically, I am asking for 0.01 BTC in exchange for carrying your link/message in my sig space for 1 month. I will try to make 50 posts in that time. If it takes longer, then I will keep your link in my sig until I reach 50 posts. Any posts made over that limit within the month will be completely free. Smiley

I would really prefer to make this deal with someone who is at least a Senior Member with positive trust. Otherwise, you pay first.

Post in this thread or PM me if you are interested.
