No one has really proven them to be a scam.
Lets give them time.

The issue is the opposite, They did not proven themselves to be legit.

Well, tried and failed, but they have a working prototype, right? So it's not impossible for them to rectify that, and quick...or it's definitely a scam, which it is. They could make a video and post it tomorrow, they apparently have the device working and an iPhone 4S,  plus the benefit of hindsight in what wasn't acceptable in their last effort. Or do they need some extra time for some coding wizardry in manufacturing another BS GUI revision, maybe a dummy mining pool copy. They can give you evidence now, but choose not no!!

Anonymousg64, I really don't understand this, they've promised ionstorm a refund, what the **** are you waiting for?! You have so much blind faith you want to wait and see??

i dont imagine the prototype being available or in a state usable for proof purposes at any desirable point in time, and really what the point of satisfying forum members to them anyway. They said to wait until they had shipped if you still had doubt. If they are really doing optimization, modification and making a liquid cooling solution, the team will need the prototype all the time. If ionstorm gets a refund its great for him and super for my trust in them. Anyway im trying to get them to make their team use eligius for any unit testing so we can see some activity, if they cant do that then SCAM they are.
602  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official CedarTec Topic - New ASIC [Scam?] on: May 07, 2013, 11:31:33 PM
Well im feeling hopeful. They are as much of scam as BFL was in the first three months.

The only reason people on here say they are scam is because of the lack of undeniable evidence.

No one has really proven them to be a scam.
Lets give them time.

I will try pushing them to get public stats up as soon as possible, using eligius.st
603  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I'm switching to mXBT — and why you should too on: May 07, 2013, 10:29:57 PM
We need alias denotations to change people perception of thinking one whole bitcoin is worth allot.
at 10000$/bitcoin we need new denotations not based on BTC itself like mBTC or uBTC.
like a satoshi
we could use exponential increments from a base of 16
1satoshi = 0.00000001BTC = satoshi
16satoshi = 0.00000016BTC = alias
256satoshi = 0.00000256BTC = alias
4096satoshi = 0.00004096BTC = alias
65536satoshi = 0.00065536BTC = alias
1048576satoshi = 0.01048576BTC = alias
16777216satoshi = 0.16777216BTC = alias
268435456satoshi = 2.68435456BTC = alias
why base 16? idk, anything that has small enough interval and not too many aliases to remember.

the mindblock is perceptual and based on language dynamics
has nothing to do with ease
bitcoins, btc, mbtc, ubtc all use a bitcoin as the base,
people want to own units, not subdivisions.

If we can introduce a new language for bitcoins to wrap the subdivisions and disassociate it from a single whole btc,
people will be more willing to buy some of alias A, B or C and less likely to think its overvalued.
but theres actually a more important problem below that, the us dollar is bitcoins reserve currency, we dont know how else to express value quantitatively.

an interesting thing I noticed is that they did not touch the funds I sent them, its still in the wallet I sent to, can anyone else check where their funds ended up?  If I were a scammer personally, id cash that shit out and buy real asics lol

for my first order they did cash out through bitcoin-24.com.
but thats not an option anymore or for now

Our Service is momentarily not available
my guess is they are waiting for the bitcoin value to rise or for bitcoin-24 to reopen its doors

the bitcoins for my second order has also not been touched

i want to know how a person from lebanon makes a contract for asic manufacturing in china? Isn't lebanon under a blockade or a civil war   GrinTongueUndecided

otherwise seems legit

google searches indicate Israel put a blockade on them and later lifted that blockade in 2006
607  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official CedarTec Topic - New ASIC [Scam?] on: May 07, 2013, 07:03:38 AM
Cedartec is the best make believe miner out there, shit if bfl had cedartecs price point it would be freaking amazing.  I think it could be a scam for the simple fact that shipping would cost 1-200 dollars according to dhl Lebanon's site, maybe I calculated it wrong but check it out and find the cheapest shipping.

Id advise anyone who has multiple orders to try and cancel, if they send bitcoin back reorder.
usually it takes a few hours to get a bitcoin address to send to, as long as they have not sent bitcoins their order will expire in 24hours from the time of receiving the address.

I do not believe they are a scam, but do not buy based on what i think

For the moment we are waiting for these promises to be fulfilled:

-livestats
-better video
-better pictures
-updated information on the website
-summary for the past 2 years of the development
-bruno me(iwish) getting a demo unit

Im trying to get an ETA on those from them and how long the expected delays will be for mass production.

I thought they said they were going to ship directly from their manufacturer in china

Dear customer,

the units of the pre-order will be shiped from china, some of our employees will stay
there and control and test everything, before the units will be send.

i posted that in the moment and light of Phinnaeus Gage's stunt.

i thought there was something wrong with those emails, intentional errors that would seem german

is dvdrewritable one of your accounts?

I emailed support for some confirmation on those claims, first received a reply saying they were not sure, then I linked to this thread and received following message

Quote
Dear customer,

currently we are working under optimization of the components
Mass production will be during this next stage.

before this final stage is complete
a the CT-80 demo will be sent as promised
off course, we will provide tracking informations.

With best regards,

Your CedarTec Team.

So this is good news, in not so distant future we should expect to see at the least, partially complete proto unit arriving in the hands of mr gage, and he can document this evidence; before anybody else takes a risk by pre-ordering

No reply yet from CedarTec.

Maybe you should consider CedarTec, although the debate on their legitimacy is not over.

SCAM!
maybe this will wake him up, a role reversal
613  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official CedarTec Topic - New ASIC [Scam?] on: May 07, 2013, 02:33:36 AM
I cannot confirm Phinnaeus Gage email are real yet.
I have not received an email from them saying so as he requested they do.
614  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official CedarTec Topic - New ASIC [Scam?] on: May 07, 2013, 01:09:35 AM
Well his neck is well and truly on the cutting board for this...

I personally think Phin is young, irrational and prone to outbursts and definitely needs to rethink what he wrote and the potential damage his words could have on the naive and his BTC wallet. As far as I can see he's just assumed all Cedertec's risk for the promise of 1 x miner from a very shady unproven source.

I just turned 53 in March and am acting rationally. I can't wait to get my miner and have The Joint fire it up.

616  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official CedarTec Topic - New ASIC [Scam?] on: May 07, 2013, 12:30:35 AM
aw damn i was trying to get the chance to get an early unit for review

ITS A STUNT TO TRY AND PROVE IM A SHILL, DO NOT RUSH OVER AND BUY A UNIT, FINISH READING TO THE END
617  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official CedarTec Topic - New ASIC [Scam?] on: May 06, 2013, 10:20:23 PM
Scam or not they made out with at least $200,000.00 with 150+ orders (with the btc price fluctuations) that's enough to manufacturer these 150+ asics or a successful scam.

most people are blind to the actual cost of things.
8$/chip (their figure)
10$/pcb with component placement (my estimate)
50$/components (my estimate)
so 140$ per asic unit,
prices may even be lower, components would be bought on reels and cost a few cents individually, even lower if the placement company can provide them.
618  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official CedarTec Topic - New ASIC [Scam?] on: May 06, 2013, 10:07:57 PM
if they truly have been working on it since 2010 i doubt they did so without any funding. it could even be a personal project or between friends.

You're right, your first valid point, they have to have had funding for four years for multiple employees, some that are currently living in China, yet have mentioned no prior investment and such generous parties are not interested in using this revolutionary tech for themselves.  These eccentric investors, and friends, just buck the trend, encourage operating on a loss, and living on air the entire time, up until which point they want so desperately to recoup funding in merely a few weeks....ohh wait didn't they say they wanted to do a limited run of 1,000 to see what the uptake was? So, they've slaved away for four years, hidden whilst Lebanon clashes with Israel, an Arab spring and the Syria conflict spills over with their groundbreaking foresight to predict the ASIC revolution on an off chance peeps may share an interest in years to come prior to any realistic uptake or confidence in this emerging cryptocurrency!!?

You are a prize ****ing idiot. Complain to a mod if you like, I want to see one defend you and this utter bollocks!

whats wrong with having remote employees
their plan is not only to sell for a few weeks
i said that was my interpretation about them saying that all pre-orders will be sold whether it was as a pre-order or purchase after manufacture.
anyone looking at the computation problem regarding bitcoin knew the potential of each existing technology.

anyway, all the hostility and cursing and name calling doesn't do shiart

here is more from them:
Quote
Dear customer,
we will try to answer the questions as accurate
as currently possible:

> We are curious as to who are the people behind CedarTec, not in name
> but in personality, story's and philosophy.

-the most of our employees are younger, also we have some students,
which are
(mostly) studying electrical engineering and computer sciences.
The age from our employees reaches from 24 to 40 years.

> What kind of enterprise is this, profit driven, fun driven or purpose
> driven?

-First we have started as a group of friends, build some
fpgas and started mining ourselfs. We also gived some fpgas to
friends to bring them closer to bitcoins and the potential.
After some months we saw that the bitcoins gained more influence
and were represented with increased regularity by the media
in tv and computer magazines.
We have started to hire some students for a practicum at our
little group, at this time it was not seen as a company by us.
We have looked more into the future of bitcoins and started to
develope fpgas, which we canceled, we were to late, the market
was further on then we were. This was the step were we started
to develope an asic, it took a long time until we got
something worked, because there was a lack of money.
So we did everything in little steps.
Now we are more people who are working hard to finish the last
steps of our project.
You can say it is fun driven, purpose driven and profit driven
at the same time.

> How did it come to be and what are the circumstances that led to
> making it about bitcoin mining?

-see above and also we want to be a part of the bitcoin history.
We would like to bring bitcoins to more people to increase the
community.

> Talk about the development struggles along the past 2 years.

- we can make a summary in next days.

> Is CedarTec here for the long run?

-We will look further if we have shipped
all pre-orders. Minimum is the 2 years
warranty on our first official product.

> You do understand the stress and debate going around whether or not
> to trust your company, how are you thinking about this in terms of
> managing your company's public image?

-I, personally, can not tell you anything about this.
We have got instructions from our employer and have to follow
these. If it is good for the company images or not is not
in my hands. I can only publish informations and allow
actions which I personally am allowed to.

> Btw, what is your position?

-As I said before, it is not in my hand.
I understand the position of everyone
and it is not easy to trust a company which is
about 1 month online. But we try our best to strengthen
the trust in our company.

With best regards,

Your CedarTec Team.
