escrow?

EDIT: it is probably better to have members post their information verses emailing it to you as this will help prevent disputes as to if payments have been received or not
602  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Large loan needed, collateral offered on: September 25, 2014, 11:47:34 AM
Who knows. If the property really is worth that much and does have a clear title (including the lack of a mortgage) then you may get someone to lend you money.
603  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Large loan needed, collateral offered on: September 25, 2014, 05:47:06 AM
I don't think you will be able to get this by offering a lien on your property as collateral. I would ay there is a likely a good reason why you are not able to get a loan via your bank (assuming you have tried to do so).

If you are able to put up LTC, or other altcoins as collateral then you would increase your chances of getting the loan.

Plus the cost of foreclosing on a property is at least $15,000 (with a large servicer, with a smaller servicer/independently it will be a lot more. Therefore your property would need to be worth at least loan amount + $15k times 120% at the very least. You also did not state what the estimated value of the condo is nor the monthly HOA/condo fees are.
604  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Selling Bitcointalk Accounts 40% sale with proof of legit ownership. on: September 24, 2014, 05:48:12 PM
WARNING

It has been well over a month since I paid and my order is only 20% complete. I email the seller around 2 times a week and he just says he will send "later today" or "tomorrow" but he never does.

Do not send money until seller clears his current backlog of orders.

Once my order is complete, I will post here to let everyone know.

There have been many reports of account farmers getting their accounts banned. If one of his accounts is banned, but posts or sends a PM from another of his accounts then it could be considered ban evading which would result in a perm ban (this is my understanding). I would speculate this to be what happened, but I can't say for sure.

Unfortunately that isn't the case, AccountTrader logs in on a daily basis.

I have lost track on how many times I have PMd him. It is always the same story - "I'll start sending tonight, tomorrow, etc".

To be honest I am really getting tired of dealing with this so if he doesn't complete my order by the end of the week I am just going to write it off as a loss, leave him a negative trust rating and then monitor for any new users trying to sell accounts in case he comes back and tries to rip people off again under another user name.

BTW, I did come across your thread and I would have rather used your services but it appeared that you only had senior level accounts and the prices were much too high for me  Sad
you can still log in if your account is banned, you just can't post it send PMs. Also it is more likely that one of the accounts he is farming got banned (or the ones he was planning on selling you)

Yea business has been good recently so I only have a few full member accounts and the ones I do have will be senior accounts in a week so there is no reason to sell it so soon before it basically doubles in value. Also my prices can always be discussed.

Is it a donator/VIP account?

608  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: [WTS] Bitcointalk.org forum accounts -new Hero account due to activity promotion on: September 23, 2014, 06:08:37 PM
Isn't the price of member account a little too high?
Just asking.
no. If I sell for less then they would not be worth my time.
I think a good price for senior account will be .25 to .30
i disagree. There are few sig campaigns now but more will pop up in the future.
I think it's too high.
i disagree. I responded to your pm but my prices are what they are truly worth.

Offering mBTC and LTC loans for fast and high interest repay

*double facepalm*

He was also just asking for a loan not long ago.....now all of a sudden he has money to lend?

WHat should i do if someone defaults on a loan with bitcointalk account as collateral?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=790959.msg8917763#msg8917763

EDIT: There is nothing you can do unless you have control of the account prior to them defaulting

i have control of the account. i am giving him 72 hrs to repay. Also added negative trust.

i did exactly that, before reading it. Cheesy
The question is what should i do with the account, if he doesn't pay?
Sell it or participate in a signature campaign and then sell it.

I would also suggest removing the negative trust as the account is effectively yours, therefore you have essentially given negative trust to yourself.

EDIT: I hope the loan was a very small one if it was secured to a JR member account with only 35 posts as this is worth essentially nothing.

EDIT2: If you lent .06 to a newbie with only his account as collateral then SMH

Loan :0.5 btc
term 28days  paid every 2 weeks
Collateral
cash money
I can loan to you a full 1 BTC, actually. What is your address? I'll send it over right away.
[scarsasm?]

EDIT: LOL
613  Other / Meta / Re: Forfeiting scammer accounts to me on: September 21, 2014, 09:25:33 PM
what's the rank of that two accounts & you give loan to them without collateral?

members

Lol, no.

Thanks for the valuable input [/sarcasm]. You can laugh at me, but please do try to add constructive feedback to the idea.
A likely solution to this kind of problem in the future would be to gain control of the account prior to funding the loan.

It would essentially be that you would be buying the account from them with the option/requirement for them to buy it back after "x" number of days. It would be important that the repayment amount is less then the value of the account because he could just buy another account if it was not. You would also be taking on a lot of risk because of the possibility of him being in the middle of a scam with that account, the account being close to being banned, ect.

The transaction would work something like this: It is your opinion that a specific senior account is worth .45 (it is up to you to make this determination). The person who controls the account needs a loan for .2 BTC. You give him a repayment address (or you have a public one). He gives you the password to the account, and a password to set it back to once the loan is repaid. You save the 2nd password and change the password and email to something only you know. You send him .2 BTC. Two weeks later (or another mutually agreed upon time) he repays you .25 BTC (or other mutually agreed upon amount) to the repayment address. You change the password to the password he gave you above.

You need to note the large difference between the repayment amount and the repayment amount because of the high risk involved. You also need to remember that if you wish to earn from a signature campaign you will need to put effort into posting so when calculating your ROI you should deduct some amount for this time/effort.

If you are trying to recoup a loan after the fact then your only recourse would be to give negative trust and hopefully his time to create a new account to get to "member" level is worth more then the amount owed to you
614  Economy / Lending / Re: Need 0.55 BTC on: September 21, 2014, 08:47:21 PM
Collateral? My forum account. Senior member almost hero. PM if interested.
An account with Trust: -1: -2 / +2(2)
Warning: Trade with extreme caution! .. probably lowers its worth close to zero...
Even without the negative trust the account is not worth .6, probably closer to .45 max

He has also defaulted on a 2 BTC loan back in 2013 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=219526.60

Easy BTC to help me build a name on the forum Smiley
Where is VOD when you need him?

I sent this guy a PM asking if he has collateral (he does not), I told him I cannot help him. Then several hours later I get this PM:
Either VOD or someone else on default trust needs to negative trust him.

617  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] DiceBitco.in Signature Campaign - Continued Again... on: September 20, 2014, 10:58:39 PM
My role as escrow is to pay if they don't pay. Since they appear to now intend to pay, I won't have to and can presumably return the escrowed coins once the payments are made.
If they decide to continue the campaign you wont continue to hold any coins in escrow?
618  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: [WTB] VIP/Donator account on: September 20, 2014, 05:07:14 PM

There's a thread somewhere saying most donators ended up scamming people on the forum.

Unless you can link to the thread, I would say it does not exist.

I think he/she was referring to this

Quote
The list of VIP's that donated 50BTC to this forum reads almost like a "who's who" of bitcoin scammers. zhoutong, pirateat40, Graet,  imsaguy, TradeFortress, cryptoxchange..  Why dont you do your part, and refund Goat's 50BTC to Gurrty, and strip Goat of his VIP privileges?  At least it would be some small restitution to Gurrty,  it would show you do not want to be paid with stolen money and scammers can not buy protection from you with their stolen money, and if Goat wants to regain his VIP status, let him cough up the coins himself.
Do you have a link to this quote?

The link is there. Click on "this".
Oh, it looks like I missed the fact that there was a link there.

Regardless, the quote was what one person wrote, and does not appear to be the overall discussion of the thread. The post itself is not even factually accurate, it lists 6 people that have allegedly scammed out of 30 VIPs (I am not sure that all of them are even VIPs) and many more donators.

I would say the reason there are so many VIP/Donator scams is because they are people who had a lot a bitcoin so they donated a little bit (<$100 worth at the time) to the forum and went into what turned into a failed business. I would dispute the fact that they being a VIP made it easier for them to scam.

As I stated before I am looking for a VIP/donator account to get the perks of a VIP/Donator account and do not intend to engage in any kind of trading with it. Therefore any "trust" that would be gained because it is a donator/VIP would not apply to my situation.

Why would you want to access the donator forum when it's completely dead? And you'd be easier just trying to become a mod to get access to it.
I think it would likely be somewhat interesting to see old posts that donators posted years ago. The fact that it is dead likely means that it does not have a lot of useless spam in there.

From what I can tell you have spent a lot of time on this forum and only became a mod a few months ago. I am not sure I would be able to report enough posts that actually should be reported to become a mod.

+the fact that mods are always receiving a lot of "hate" by people when rules are enforced

+the fact that theymos would likely receive a lot of backlash if he made some that trades in accounts a mod (I can only imagine the uproar)
