I hope you sold when the ETH price peaked, glad you were able to recoup most of your losses. I only keep small amounts on the exchanges, otherwise my coinbase vault and trezor for the win...

My i7 rig didn't  find a solo block in days, but my i5 found one within hours of opening with only 1 thread and 1 / 15 of the hashrate of the i7 Cheesy

I won't poolmine this yet, id rather contribute to the  decentralization and solo mine.

Going to hold for a while, but is this coin listed on any exchange? I see potential in this one
605  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH BUBBLE IS OVER BTC BEING TAKEN OUT OF POLONIEX on: April 10, 2016, 07:39:45 PM
I will admit, I jumped on the mining bandwagon and made some money out of it... Would have been a fool not to... I will keep mining it for a while and see where it goes, but not sell yet. I am hoping it finds a good usecase, but it so sounded like a pump and dump. GPUs are  still pretty much worth what I paid for them too.

606  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Solo pools for old hardware - on: April 10, 2016, 07:35:38 PM
CKs solo pool definitely pays out, there is a long thread on it.

607  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / R280X for sale on: April 07, 2016, 10:21:01 PM
Hi guys, I have an AMD R280X for  sale, I have roughly 300 MH of mining cards for ETH atm, but I cant add anymore, as I now throw my circuit breaker... I am at my limit for that circuit. So I am selling one of my cards. It is the  card only in a static bag, mining ETH gives about 20 - 22 MH, asking 0.5 BTC, or the equivalent price in either LTC, or UNO. escrow with ognasty if the buyer would like. I am based in the UK, would  ask for a little more if I ship abroad.
608  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to solo mining? on: April 07, 2016, 09:46:05 AM
Easiest way to solo mine? Open console of bitcoin core and type setgenerate true Wink

P.S if you do that you chances of finding a block are so so low its stupid, but not 100.0% impossible, more like 99.999999% impossible.

Personally for a solo pool I would trust CKs pool. Less of a chance of an orphan than your own node.

Or as a lottery machine! Couldn't the same thing be applied to scrypt? I will run this S3 until it pops its clogs
EDIT: Reading the whitepaper, it seems unique to SHA asics?

610  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin survive world war III? on: April 06, 2016, 06:03:12 AM
War or not there is one thing many people do not realize, is the internet is very vulnerable. A few fibre cables between countries is ALL that links them. So much that parts of the world were disconnected from the outside web by a boat anchor.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2108868/Ships-anchor-accidentally-slices-internet-cable-cutting-access-African-countries.html

That's a reference to the event. The map of these fibre cables is here

https://personalpages.manchester.ac.uk/staff/m.dodge/cybergeography/atlas/teleglobe_large.gif

This is the weak link in the chain, if countries got disconnected in such a way, I could imagine many blockchain forks happening, and in war? barter. I wouldn't care about the internet but would be trying my best to get across the globe to get to my partner if I hadn't moved there by then. Bitcoin would be the last thing on my mind, or any money for that matter. Maybe the couple of silver bars ive been saving would be useful XD

That's a thing, if countries did become isolated and theres big pools in there, would they suddenly begin mining on their own 'fork' of the chain because theres nothing else to contradict it? After 100 confirmations the coins are spendable? This is a problem, if china shut off outside access say those pools may end up on their own fork. This situation isn't limited to outright war but the most damage to those fibre cables would or could occur during wartime. Disconnect a country from the outside world and then blocks begin propagating only within that country, and all the nodes in that country have is the nodes within the country, nothing to contradict the blocks. Then access is restored X time later, then you end up with two or more different forks???
611  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ¤¤¤¤ antrun.de - Antrouter R1 Fun-Run - compare your share ¤¤¤¤ on: April 06, 2016, 05:52:32 AM
I was gonna get one soon and mount a fan on the inside to enable me to clock it higher. If that hits a block id be absolutely astounded, in theory you could find a block with a CPU though, all it takes is a single hash out of the 5bn a second it tries. At 5 GH/s which is the R1s stock, a few thousand years Cheesy But due to luck, could be tomorrow, it could take even LONGER than the projected time, in theory a 1pH pool can never find blocks. My S3s pulled 7BN share in two weeks, wheras the 1pH rentals I have done never came higher than 1 billion!
612  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: antminer s3 on: April 06, 2016, 05:50:34 AM
If it isn't too expensive to run for you, you might be better off putting it at CKs solo pool and hoping to hit lucky. S3s seem to have held their value in relation to other rigs well. My S3 which I just got working again I am going to leave in the solo pool to hit lucky, it is part of a solo experiment.
613  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: My Solo Mining Experiment, two years. starting with 3 S3s and 1 U3. on: April 05, 2016, 11:15:44 PM
Back in business! Replacing the PSU and was able to get one hash board working again using its other slot. It is currently mining with one hash board! Soon an S7 and R1 will be joining the solo mining ranks! The moment a block is found all but one rig will be sold off, if not then ive had fun and the cost of an S7 is not too bad that now hitting a block would mean that my heat was paid for, that's the way ill see it.

I have changed wallet addresses, 1JacobtFpSMx15iKNR2xmPuDLqRVYM9NWc so that is reflected in the opening topic. I will have a total of 3.5TH when you add the half functioning S3, antrouter and the S7 to be. Will update when it is set up

EDIT: THE S3 is functioning correctly now after a careful soldering job to replace a damaged capacitor on the (broken) hashboard. I am paying  for my S7 when I do my usual bitcoin buy at the end of the week, and will get the antrouter as well.

614  Bitcoin / Mining support / Using the relay network on: April 05, 2016, 02:06:05 PM
I have set up a P2POOL mining node along with bitcoin classic running (I wont turn this into a core vs classic debate), and it seems to be good. I added the relay nodes using addnode= in the bitcoin conf file. Is this enough? This is more to reduce orphan risk if my miners were to failover from CKs pool and then hit a block here. With 6mbps of upstream (up to) and quality of service set at 2.5mbps for this machine, I hope that is enough to propagate blocks quickly.

This is a backup in case CKs pool is DDoSed again. To be fair, I think more people should host something like this and have solo mining as a final backup ON THEIR OWN NODES because DDoSing all the major pools would be a sure way to bring the bitcoin network down to a crawl. Any friends I know who are into mining are using this as their final backup, primary is their usual pool, second is CKs solo pool, third will be mine. The IP is static but not public on any forum. This sort of set up more should create, as you never know, bitcoin is very vulnerable I think if you DDoS two major pools for example, (say, F2Pool and Slush) you can easily slow down transaction processing greatly! This is on my dedicated 'server' machine at home which is behind a UPS. This has been a concern of mine for a while, its not as decentralized as it should be. At least with this, transactions still get propagated and some of the miners will end up with a tidy sum of the block reward! This would increase the strength of the network greatly. Plus if a major pool suddenly decided to go offline you wouldn't need to wait for a difficulty retarget to fix transaction processing.

Have I set up the relay network correctly for this purpose? Should I also add the nodes of all major pools?

I won't ask anyone to mine here as a backup as that involves a degree of trust which CK is already good for that, what is needed here is more individual pool miners to do a set up like this, its very simple to do and could save a lot of trouble if someone decides to have a go at the major pools.

615  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Antminer S7 wanted on: April 05, 2016, 01:29:04 PM
What prices would you be asking? I may have already made a deal through PM, an S7 with only two working hash boards so 3.2 TH/S, I have made him an offer, if it doesn't turn out will come back to you and we can sort something out.

616  Economy / Computer hardware / Antminer S7 wanted on: April 05, 2016, 12:09:14 PM
I am interested in an antminer S7 in the UK, but don't want to pay the crazy ebay prices which is more than from bitmain + customs duties id pay. This is to be used to solo mine for my experiment, I know finding a block is 'low probability' but why not : )

I do have a question mind, is it possible to underclock these well so I can put quieter fans on them? I do not mind sacrificing some hashpower! What sort of price would I be looking at? Preferably with a power supply. If I need to pay in bitcoin I would like to use escrow with ognasty.

is the 1 BTC bonus still on? If so will throw a 1PH rental this way! I have done a few now and then to solo mine but fancy trying it on your pool.
618  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: My Solo Mining Experiment, two years. starting with 3 S3s and 1 U3. on: April 02, 2016, 02:50:06 PM
EXPERIMENT TEMPORARILY HALTED! the S3 has died. After a power outage the S3 and the power supply gave up the ghost. my surge protector was in the reset position, it has also damaged my router. The good news is the warranty on the surge protector is going to cover the damaged rig and my modem. I am going to connect up one of the block erupters i kept spare until I replace the rig!
619  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: My investments and planning with bitcoin on: March 31, 2016, 10:23:36 PM
I have to say I agree with that statement to a big degree, the GPU mining has some fun about it, not investing too much into one, but keeping a single rig for GPU mining, this is also great that when I want to render video which I do a lot of for a few hours a week in batches, I just pause mining and use that superb GPU set up to do the rendering for me, which is very quick then it resumes mining, so it  does have a practical application for me as well on a small scale.

I am converting most ETH I mine into bitcoin as fast as possible, but going to hold a couple of ETH incase the price rises further. Feels good to watch bitcoin appear in my wallet in sizeable amounts at the moment where it is sourced from GPU mining ETH, knowing the power cost is much lower than a bitcoin ASIC to produce the same amount (at the moment). The couple of cards are great for my rendering too as I shoot a lot of video on a freelance basis. If it becomes unprofitable I just  switch the GPU rigs off and use them for my rendering, if it then becomes profitable I fire them up.
620  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: My investments and planning with bitcoin on: March 31, 2016, 04:43:28 PM
That's why its good to have a GPU, its versatile and you don't loose much as you still have a GPU that's worth something, I will enjoy it while it lasts if its a pump and dump! As for BTC, I will wait on new miners before investing in any others sometimes it makes sense to mine some of these  and convert them to bitcoin quickly
