Deposits are working, but delayed. I just asked them how long it is taking.

I think the issue is getting serious, someone if not able to pay a lawyer should look for local japanese authorities, police and porsecutors. That London guy who is already there could do it. If anyone has his contact....

And even considering speculation, the current price can't be explained by offer and demand either, people are just paying what is asked believing it will go higher and higher forever.

If people were any rational they would not be paying hundreds of dollars for one bitcoin
How much should they be paying? Like any currency Bitcoin can only be worth as much as non speculative market is worth. How many dollars(under bitcoins) are being daily spent in non speculative market? How many bitcoins are available? In such case there is not even shortage for offer and demand value increase. So divide the dollar by bitcoins available and you will get a very low value. Yes, speculation alters the price of any currency, but it is not real value, once speculation is gone, value is gone too.

While i find the situation very suspect, i'm willing to risk a high amount of money on mtgox. But i don't have a verified account there and i have no paper residency proof with me. While everyone is desperanting to run away from it , i'm a bit desperate on verifying my account there.
So you're basically a gambler, right now whether Gox runs with the money or not is a coin toss. Why it is a coinloss if they don't run?.

I for one dont understand the protesters. To be honest there is nothing they can gain from going there, only incur extra losses for paying for travel (say london to Japan costs a bit)
It's not like the company is public and they have shares in it, it's private. Instead of wasting their time up there they should review their legal options.
Probably all or most of their savings are there, and they got desperate. Not rational but easy to understand. I would have paid a lawyer intead of spending with trips.

"Can we visit your offices?
In order to keep costs low, we generally do not invite members of the general public to visit our offices. However, VIP investors are invited to our monthly office cocktail parties in Geneva."

Bitcoin does not even have enough volume for money laundering, i doubt any is going on at least in a significant level. But fact is, Bitcoins are used in drug and other tradings of illicit products or services and only in such illegal markets it has significant volume of transactions.

What i don't understand is how other exchanges are not affected by MtGox, MtGox is a big player. The overall rate can't be immune to Gox rate and its sevral consequences in the market.

What about lost coins?
Lost coins can't be recovered, in the long term a huge amount will be lost, maybe all of them in the really long term.
