Slow adoption is not a sign of failure in this case though and as the article stated, when there is significant advantage to using the app, like the starbucks one, people will use it. It is something we have to consider as we start to roll out DNotes payment network. How do we make it faster, more secure, and significant benefit to the user. I would venture say a big part of the reason "pay by phone" and other NFC payment solutions hasn't caught on is the merchants themselves. For example, I was shopping at a huge national retailer and asked the checkout person if they supported ApplePay on their terminals. The answer? "I don't know, whats that?" To put it mildly, a less than acceptable answer from a multi billion dollar retailer sporting multiple red circles on their masthead. Since the terminal had the NFC symbol, I proceeded to show her how it worked and, yes, they supported it. Several others in line originally upset by the "delay" of several seconds in their self important lives then murmured "So that what that means" Sad at best. So, lets be real, if the store doesn't even know what they support, how confident would most people be in "giving it a try"? Not many I'm thinking. The lack of "follow through" in modern business is shocking... Very good points, RJF. Great ideas are exciting but without focus, great execution, and "follow through" the lack of success and failures are common outcomes. In the case of DNotes, we have purposely not engaged the temptation promoting DNotes as a form of payment to set up merchant accounts because we know that until we are ready we can not succeed. Yet I am still noticing many of our industry peers proudly proclaiming that their coins are going to be widely accepted by merchants as payment. I can not name a handful that have much of anything to show for. Only one really. GULDEN (NLG) has just completed a project whereby any merchant that accepts Bitcoin can also accept NLG. I believe they are the first in this regard. While I haven't looked too deeply into the technology, it is a step in the right direction, for them at least, since they are focusing on real world payment infrastructure. |

Coins like Gulden with real purpose, real developers and real life uses don't need, or want, your childish manipulation attempts so you can make a small profit for yourselves. It's interesting to see people's perspective on crypto and how easily money is lost and services are here today, gone tomorrow. Something I think we forget to take into account with this industry and, investment opportunity, is just how easy it is to get involved yet we continue to compare it with other investment markets such as stocks and commodities both consciously and subconsciously.
For example, what would you consider a workable portfolio in the stock market that could produce extended future earnings, ie income, for an individual? $100K? $500k? A million or more in USD? If your talking about life long income or retirement, more than a million invested is really needed.
However, you can buy millions of crypto coins for pennys compared to stocks and traded commodities making it very easy to buy in. But, here's the rub, value and future value. Our minds tend to play a dirty trick on us when we work with money and value. A million alt coins valued at a tenth of a cent is nothing like a million US Dollars yet, our subconscious doesn't see it that way. Our mind ignores the vast difference in value and tells us we must be making a great investment since we are getting so much for so little completely ignoring the vast difference in real value.
And, that's a problem.
Anyone can buy in and risk whatever they bought trying to manipulate the market, without risking much really. "Pump and Dump" has become so prevalent, yet totally illegal, that coins are created specifically for the purpose. Companies run by people with no financial acumen hold themselves out to be crypto-financial advisers applying unproven and untested theories to your money!
The only saving grace comes in two things: it's early, the industry needs to shake out and settle down and, believe it or not, regulation. We absolutely need to follow the rules that apply to what I will call the "real financial world" since we are quickly becoming that very world.
So, we invest, we buy, we gain, we loose. You have to look at it as a learning curve and be glad you not spending mega dollars to learn a hard lesson unless you play with Bitcoin itself, then, all bets are off, good luck!
In conclusion, Alts like DNotes are, without a doubt, the best way to build a future but, to those "instant gratification" types out there, it won't happen overnight. Building value and real use cases for a crypto takes time and an enormous amount of work. It also takes talented people fully committed to the task such as we have here.
In conclusion, I have, over the last year or so, consolidated my long term holdings down to about 8 to 10 coins that I continue to invest in and support. That from about 60 at the height of it all. I see this further shrinking to perhaps 5 with DNotes at or near the top. No instant miracle coins, no super high tech wonders, no overnight "to the moon" projects, just good old fashioned hard work, good marketing, committed development team and, good use case with ongoing development.
So, you pay to play but sooner or later, you pay to invest so your money can pay you back. Then you can play some more...

I fondly remember carrying my KPMG cards and showing off ... when it needed an extra kick  Here is a little story that has come around again it seems: - In 2003, was offered a choice: Join KPMG as an accountant ... or join a startup that dealt with migrating databases for large companies. Learn IT while doing accounts for the startup. I went with KPMG because Accountancy is a trade that requires at least 10 years of exp to start being good. Was headhunted for KPMG Tax Technology Team, some geeks they had writing internal software could not handle accounts and the accountants were not geeks, I was supposed to be the bridge. Until the 2007 financial crisis, when I left. Mid-2007 The startup went on to sell itself for £200million ... of which as one of the early employees I would have had £1-2 mil in shares.
I was young and clearly foolish. Now ... PWC is working on UK Government blockchain, which sounds a lot more fun than writing tax software On the other hand, crypto could use my full time dedication. By the way, I logged into my Vircurex account and cannot find any notice of delisting DVC or not supporting DVC deposits anywhere. Where is that notice located? Edit: Never mind. I can find the announcement by clicking on the link that was posted here. However, that's not a page I normally see when I'm using my Vircurex account, so I didn't find it through the normal course of clicking around the site. Maybe I'm just missing something. I notice below that an announcement about Feathercoin and how they extended the deadline for withdrawing coins. Perhaps we can all request that they provide at least some period of time where the wallets are still online so that people can at least withdraw their funds. I mean, I don't think it's fair to immediately cause a wallet to not work. And anyway, what happens to funds that did get sent? Does Vircurex just keep them? And my Safecex deposit is showing as pending and almost cleared, so all good there I guess we're all going to be moving our business there now, especially with whatever is going on with Bter. The implications with Bter are reminiscent of what happened when Cryptsy started to unravel. There are also undertones of shady deals and other things that may indicate they won't be around much longer. Just my opinion, relay on your own! |

I kinda like his idea, something akin to "Certificate of Deposit" with a variable rate of return depending on the length of the commitment and the amount on deposit. I understand this would have to be researched to avoid any banking or legal quagmires but, it would be VERY attractive to new investors especially those with short attention spans! Biggest issue I suppose would be where does the "interest" come from? PS: From the regulation department, I suppose it would not be a legal issue if crypto is a commodity but, would be an issue if crypto is money. Since we have no definitive ruling on this, it's kinda a gray area huh? |

Cloak price is going down Like a boss. Whats up with cloak? I really Like cloak but how long will the markets sleep. The valvue from cloak is much higher in my opinion.
The none technical answer is: most ALTS are down right now, even ETH so, hang in there it will change. Cloak is a long term project. Now that the code for POSA3 is out and working, I'm sure the team will turn to marketing and other projects to heighten CLOAK awareness in the markets. Will there be a difference between the beta release and the real release that is coming soon? Also are there already contacts with big names like E-bay, Amazon etc? I think if Syscoin is a decentralized competitor of E-Bay, Amazon and AliExpress, you should not close deals with them but with the companies using those platforms. Imagine what happens to Syscoin when only a fraction of the Chinese, Hong Kong and Korean market moves over to it. And maybe Syscoin could integrate Ribbit Rewards too? That way you would have a rewarding system for customers returning to the platform. I think a lot of people don't see how big this could get. Project definitely has a LOT of potential, also the team is very professional and very skilled. Great long-term investment. However, it still needs to cross the line from having a great platform with a lot of potential to becoming adopted by the masses, if this does happen at some point in the future a billion dollar market cap or more is possible. Agreed. These guys have endured a ton of BS and crap yet, they continue to deliver a competitive product. I too see a bright future for Syscoin... |

Any changes to Fedoracoin base or any development requiring a hardfork will be communicated to the the community beforehand and a vote will take place on the way we should steer the progress.
All of our decisions will be transparent and will not take place or be implemented without the approval of the community.

Thank you bitdick. Why is wallet full of viruses? There are no virus or malware in the wallet if you got it from the official source. Many virus programs indicate false positives on wallets especially if they contain addnode or config files with IP addresses. |

The gaming advantage dgb had is gone. It's good Jared has switched to digusign with that company who could store documents on the digibyte blockchain. I think this is where Jared will make his money. Not on the currency itself which is why he only has 5 million coins.
Will be cool to hear Jared himself about why he has not so much coins in the project he is leading so hardly. Comments from others are suppositions. (even if 5M is a decent amount) I don't know for sure but one reason could be is because he did not take any coins when the DGB was launched. He has had to mine or buy his coins just like anyone else. He wears expensive clothing. I don't think money is a issue. Jared isn't really worried about the amount of DGB he does have. So far, he's doing his best to make it useful in everyday's life. If he's successful 5Millions will be enough. Believe it. Best answer yet. If you believe in a thing, you put all your energy, time and purpose into it. Making money from it is actually pretty far down the priority list. This project has a leader, a real person who is doing everything possible to see it succeed, not just make money for himself. Be proud of that... |
