601  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If a addict lives within, which method would you choose to help them on: January 30, 2024, 02:07:53 PM
Go with number One but eventually it will not work and you will have to resort to number to. Assess whether the person feels the remorse and wants to get into rehab which is essential to understand that they are willing to help themselves.

The method to explain to them that gambling is detrimental to their well being and their lives should be explicit and hammered on them constantly, so they understand that their actions are having a bad effect on the rest of the family. Try to include how they could have done differently with that money.

It is tough trying to help someone in the family, but it is possible so dont lose hope.
602  Local / Mining (India) / Re: How well people here in india knows about Mining on: January 29, 2024, 04:22:24 PM
What is the definition of legit for you as an Indian for me Banks are legit but are they? Legit is a word created by those US/Europeans who know their existence depends on certain words that won't make sense to people in a third-world country. The right word would be a contract that can be questioned and that does not get manipulated. For me mining is dead and staking is the best option over mining.
I would call a mining corp legit, if I have some real life friend overseas and they are mining on cheap electricity and are now looking for investors money to allow themselves to scale into a bigger corp. Indeed I would be interested in investing in such an venture.

Similar projects start everyday but often by random noobs with little or no experience and hence should not be trusted with our money.

And like always, I prefer to buy bitcoin over any of these.
603  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why do many people fail in trade? on: January 29, 2024, 04:17:54 PM
There is one single reason for this.

One thing that comes out front is that many trader become traders when the market is showing the uptrend and the mainstream buzz on crypto is out of the roof. That is the wrong time to buy. These are the same people who will sulk at the bear market and sell off at a loss and then go to reddit to complain that bitcoin is a scam.

These things can be prevented by prior experience to other speculative markets and by dummy trading while reading the past charts.

Still trading is not for everyone, if one continues to lose in trading, better to avoid it.
604  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You must have a source on: January 29, 2024, 04:15:05 PM
This is contrary to another hyped belief "leave your job and do bitcoin" - indeed the OP's statements work better than this.

A stable income is a cushion in the back when the crypto market drops or remains stagnant. You get your monthly crypto buying money from that too. Hence never give less importance to your day job if you have one or if you aspire to be in one.

Crypto is like the alternative income source here, it should be encouraged but never at the cost of the day job.
605  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Increased Gambling Risk for the Younger Generation on: January 29, 2024, 03:37:22 PM
This will make them start to get to know gambling if they see gambling advertisements, and eventually, they will start gambling more often.
A lot of this can be prevented by teaching them about gambling and other vices and how they eventually make the person suffer and hence right in the growing years a child can understand the good and bad and learn to avoid the latter.

Playing once a year is for fun and its not bad - losing the money might actually make that person understand the worth of that money which they could have used to buy something different. Gambling will exist in different forms because of the human nature to take risks but it is upto us how we shape our next generations to face this.
606  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How often do you win? on: January 29, 2024, 03:34:14 PM
And this is what makes this trap so dangerous, anyone can fall into it without even realizing, whether this manifest as competing against your neighbors, coworkers or even other family members, whenever you are trying to keep up with the supposed wealth a person has, by buying something you do not even want, you are falling into that trap.
It can be avoided by just following the right mindset and being disciplined about it. However gambling sites know that competition between players is what drives players to play more so they employ these leaderboard systems, VIP systems so people can appear in these "hall of fame" and brag about it. It gives them no monetary benefit and only a puffed up chest but this is what casinos want.

Eventually they will play more to maintain that status and the casino will get its profit in the long run.

608  Local / India / Re: New Scam related to URL ban for exchanges in India - [Awareness] on: January 28, 2024, 06:51:58 AM
Everyone wants to get rich quick and that is the reason why these scammers try to use a shortcut to get rich quick.
Instead of focusing on being productive and developing real usecase products, they scam others and get quick and easy money.
It's the greed of quick money that makes them keep scamming others but at then end, at some point of time, they have to payback. #Karma.
Actually the punishment for cybercrime is almost non existent, they eventually cannot be convicted and left off with warnings. There needs to be harsh punishment for such crimes similar in the lines of robbery, murder and other heinous acts. Otherwise that "fear" of prosecution will never come in the hearts of possible criminals.

If the punishment is upgraded and people start becoming aware, the prevalence of such scams can reduce.
609  Local / India / Re: Why is Bitcoin getting dumped after the ETF approval? on: January 28, 2024, 06:49:02 AM
BTW, Indians can invest in Bitcoin ETFs, there is a way to do it but, why anyone would do it as investing in an ETF won't give anyone Satoshis as they will get a paper on behalf of the financial institution.

You are right that investing in bitcoin directly is far better than investing in bitcoin ETF but there is one huge reason to buy bitcoin ETF for Indian users.
The 30% tax. I am assuming that by buying bitcoin ETF we will be able to avoid the huge 30% direct tax on bitcoin.
What do you think ?
Money obtained from Selling the ETF eventually will attract taxation due to Capital gains, have you thought of that? It is obviously going to be lower than 30% added together, but eventually the tax officials will understand that and put the 30% tax on ETFs capital gains too.

What we need is a core reduction in this 30% taxation at first, not sure how but lets be hopeful and see how the rest of the world follows ETFs over the next few months.
610  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I Want To Invest Money From My Inheritance In Bitcoin, But? on: January 28, 2024, 06:42:33 AM
Firstly my condolences for your loss.

Only you should be the person investing in "your" bitcoin. Do not take the responsibility of your brother's money to invest in bitcoin just because they dont understand the risks and are thus unwilling to invest on their own and are putting it on your shoulders.

This can turn out really bad in case bitcoin drops - which it obviously will and then come back up again. But in the meantime you will have to face the heat from your family, leading to a household problem.

I would say take it slow, it has just been 3weeks, allow the grave incident to sink in and take your time out. Dont make rash decisions right away, they always end up in the bad way.
611  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will you be worried or comfortable seeing your elderly mother gambling? on: January 28, 2024, 06:36:00 AM
Or simply old people are impulsive.  Grin
They are indeed, and some diseases make them more prone to impulsiveness. In fact it has been seen that it is the group of population who are suffering from impulsiveness and attention deficit are the ones who are gambling more often and are more likely to get addicted to gambling than their peers.

It is indeed our job to prevent this and keep social media and internet accessible devices away from such people. If we do that we can stop disasters from happening and prevent loss of huge amounts of money.

Give them non-gambling based games to play with, something that kids love too.
612  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Weak or wise? on: January 28, 2024, 06:31:32 AM
What is meant by a weak trader and a wise trader, can you be said to be a weak trader by taking a small profit, or is a wise trader a trader who never loses?
I think everyone has done both. and traders learn that from their mistakes.
These are not so general ideas, a weak trader can mean a lot of things, not necessarily making a small profit specially because the word small is relative - for someone 1k USD might be small, but it might not be small for another.

Hence the words weak or wise makes no sense here. Still I consider a trader to be a bad one if they are trading based on emotions and not rectify that and a trader to be good if they are able to make the buys at the low and sells at the high.

Eventually if you are trading successfully, you realize that these terms are only just words without any real meaning in this sphere.
613  Economy / Gambling / Re: Rollbit.com | Crypto's Most Rewarding Casino 👑 on: January 28, 2024, 06:25:38 AM
It is not uncommon to see Football players have jerseys with names of casinos written on them and so why not the eSports players too? It eSports is very much mainstream today. It gets same or more levels of gambling allotment that football matches get.

Good to see Rollbit growing and spreading its influence among the eSports community. These partnerships are the bread and butter of any gaming industry and gambling obviously is a big part of it. As long as we keep seeing more of these happening we are happy about it and hopeful of the future of the company.

Regarding your bet I've also bet on those ranges but only a small amount onto the 35k-37.5k range as a small insurance and my main bet is on the 40k-45k one. Odds are very good this one up to now fortunately.
Not a bad idea to keep one bet as insurance in case the previous one drops. Something like a derivative to cover your loss on the asset. Regarding bitcoin price, I think an untrend can push is upto 45k but beyond that a further rise might see a correctional downtrend first. On the lower side, below 40k will see buying pressure.

I also did not know that betting on Oscars was a thing here, if so that is pretty cool indeed. I was rooting for Oppenheimer and  to get all sorts of prizes this year, but it seems people's interest is elsewhere, but its fine though.

615  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do i handle my first gambling experience on: January 26, 2024, 10:52:09 AM
OP seems to be asking something similar in the lines of "popping your cherry" Grin

Of course have fun, which is the main motto of any gambling game. Dont play for winning or for making a profit, just take money that you can afford to lose and play on it. If you make some profit, cash out and dont ever come back. But if you lose, dont be upset about it and learn the lesson that gambling is always a loss for the gambler.

You will feel some withdrawal like effects in a few weeks. Wanting to go back and play more, just like a one-night-stand being remembered, but it is important to suppress these thoughts and continue with your life till at least 6-8m pass away, after that feel free to visit the casino again.

But is there really a pseudo science behind it?
Pseudo-science means that there is no science behind it but people make it appear like its scientific. Read the Wikipedia article on TA for reference.

Quote
It might maybe work for some stocks but crypto is just to volatile. You can easily drop 4-5% without any real reason.
It can, and it is unpredictable, but you can draw some conclusions in the long term watching the pattern and the indicators. Even then it cannot be explained or reproduced in future on every instance.

With TA I have the feeling that you can always make up some lines in where something would move. Maybe I am also to negative about it, but I just don’t believe in it.
You can check this yourself, run some TA and make predictions on a price of a certain coin on paper. If you do this frequently, you will find out that the accuracy is 50% or close to that.

TA can give you a trend it cannot predict something with high accuracy.
617  Local / Mining (India) / Re: How well people here in india knows about Mining on: January 25, 2024, 02:22:03 PM
I remember there was a time when a few cryptocurrencies were released that were offering the mobile mining concept. Most of them later on left abruptly and a few kept going but never listed their coins on the exchange.
I remember that scam known as Electroneum which still runs on some exchanges and I tried explaining to another fanboy on a casino chatbox because he was trying to recruit users under them. I wonder how much losses he may have incurred from it.

What we want is a legit mining corp where we can invest, but this is where the guise of cloud mining comes in and attempt to fool investors into believing that they are investing in mining while actually they are getting into a MLM.
618  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does the tension make you take risk that are sometimes worth it? on: January 25, 2024, 02:18:47 PM
In gambler's view, we will not end up winning huge if we don't take risks. I sometimes do that on slot games where I risks a good amount of money to buy a Buy Feature of that slot with an average bet of at least $5 per spin. Triggering a huhe multipliers on that bet amount is already exciting.
Exciting indeed but the losses will bring same of bigger levels of despair once that starts happening. With more bets and bigger bets, the losses start stacking up before you know it.

Indeed risk taking is what fuels gambling. When someone is rolling the slots, they keep thinking of the specials to start rolling in and that increases their tension and eventually they no longer think before pressing the bet button, rather they become uneasy from not pressing that. So in a way the casino is now controlling that gambler using their emotions.
619  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We dont own enough bitcoin on: January 25, 2024, 02:15:44 PM
I think I'm a bit late to buy bitcoin. Because I couldn't buy BTC when it was near $14500 . And now the amount of BTC that I have seems low.I don't like keeping all assets in one place .But I partially agree with you that I have less bitcoins than I should have because of halving .
Nobody is ever late if they actually start doing it and not put it aside. It is human nature to think like that but that is what brings us down and prevents personal growth. It is so easy to start collecting bitcoins today and hence get into it as soon as you can. If you are going to buy bitcoin then you might want to wait it out while the prices reach a rock bottom. If you are earning bitcoin then just start working on it!

Never think of yourself to be late, you moved away from the no-coiner realm - that is what matters.
620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as P2P currency vs Bitcoin as an asset on: January 25, 2024, 02:12:30 PM
You can think of Bitcoin as an asset or Bitcoin as P2P, it doesn't matter. We don't need to compartmentalize whether Bitcoin is an asset or not, the most important thing is how Bitcoin can be adopted by more people globally. Whether people consider it as an investment or for payment is up to them, the point is that Bitcoin as a digital asset must maintain its existence and we must continue to support it in the future.
It is the public's choice indeed. If the public finds its use more as an asset to store for the long term then it will be so and if they find its use in spending and buying groceries then by all means it will compete with existing digital payment systems. One thing is for sure that the second option is limited at this point in this world and hence the first point is what the position of bitcoin among common people is.

Hence for me both of them are possible uses. It is money and it has a growth potential, but its limited use in my place so I prefer to keep it as store of value for now.
